EVERYONE knows that when you’re in dire need of a juicy burger, you hit up Gourmet Burger Kitchen, right?

And while the good folk there have been tending to our needs for years, this amazing announcement proves that they’re not about to stop there.

In fact, they’ve only gone and upped the ante completely.

Hitching their star to the nation’s favourite biscuit, GBK have launched the Mikado Shake, and we are falling all over ourselves here at SHEmazing! HQ.

This cool, creamy, coconutty, strawberry swirled shake which is topped off with an actual Mikado is available for a limited time only, so we’re struggling to find a reason not to sprint there right this second.

Form an orderly queue, ladies.

All this week, the lads behind the Happy Pear have been celebrating National Vegetarian Week like absolute pros.

From their unbelievable Jumbo Jaffa Cake to their Vegan Chocolate Lasagne, Dave and Steve know how to knock it out of the park when it comes to recipes which satisfy our sweet tooth without leaving us riddled with guilt.

And that, ladies, as we all know is no mean feat.

In addition to schooling us on desserts which don’t have to be chock-full of ‘processed baddies’, the HP lads have also reminded us that these incredible creations can work just as well under a Christmas tree or in a birthday gift-bag as they can in our own bellies.

We’re not sure whether we’re completely on board with that idea just yet, and we can’t promise we’ll try, but we’ll TRY to try.

Ladies, prepare to drool all over yourselves.

As a nation, we're definitely more up for the craic than the confrontation.

Whether it came to sibling rows or schoolyard bitchiness, rocking the boat or stirring the pot is something most of us were advised against when growing up, and woe betide anyone who went against an Irish Mammy's teachings, right?

And while that attitude may have stood to us at some points, it looks like this particular approach has definitely seeped into adulthood if recent research carried out by Lyons Tea is anything to go by!

So, we may fancy ourselves as a nation of foodies, but according to Lyon's Get It Off Your Chest campaign, a whopping 75% of us have actually kept schtum and ate up upon receiving the wrong order in a restaurant – Sacrilege, right?

Oh, and we may love nothing more than a good session, but 34% of us would feign an illness to get out of a social event while a further 16% would bemoan the lack of babysitter in order to flake out on the couch.

So, why are we so fearful about 'fessing up and getting it off our chest?

1. Lack of confidence

We caught up with Pauline Browne, Marketing Director for Lyons, who told us that as a nation we all fear being that ONE person who has an opinion on everything and makes no bones about voicing it.

Thankfully, us Irish are a creative bunch and quickly realised that tea is just another word for truth serum, with 80% of respondents admitting that they find it SO much easier to open up and pour it out if they're clutching a cup of tea between their hands.

2. Desire for the craic

Our nation's innate desire to be known as serious craic with top-notch banter can cripple us at times, and generally means we don't like 'fessing up if it will ruin the moment or take the good out of a situation.

Owing to this, the research showed that a staggering one-third of us will bail from a party the 'Irish' way ie. without saying goodbye to anyone, in case we're forever dubbed anti-craic by the others.

But unsurprisingly, we've learned that injecting a little humour into proceedings means we can speak the truth without being labelled a total buzzkill by half the group.

3. Fear of confrontation

With a whopping 40% of respondents admitting that they hate confrontation and will avoid it at all costs, it's no surprise most of us are prone to a white lie or two.

Pauline explained that "as a nation of 'uncomplainers', we'd rather avoid a sticky situation with a porky than put anyone out with the truth" – something most of us here at SHEmazing! HQ knew a little too much about.

Be honest (if you can!) and consider how many white lies our poor Irish Mammies were subjected to over the years. We know, we know, we were just protecting them, right?!

Yesterday, the peeps here at SHEmazing! HQ fell all over themselves for the Jumbo Jaffa Cake which the good folk behind The Happy Pear created in honour of National Vegetarian Week.

But immediately after we finished picking our jaws up off the floor and just before we turned vegan for life, Dave and Steve hit us with yet another dish which makes us wish we had even one-tenth of their talent in the kitchen.

Managing to combine our favourite dinner with our favourite dessert without going down the same route as Rachel from Friends, these lads have come up with the Vegan Chocolate Lasagne, and we are SOLD.

Free of refined sugar, milk and other processed baddies, this little gem is one serious winner.

If you've spent much of the morning RAGING with the Luas drivers and venting about the weather, then you'll be delighted to know that the good folk at Pablo Picante have your back today.

The Mexican restaurant, which has three locations around Dublin city, are inviting anyone who has endured this morning's commuter chaos to tuck into a torta on them.

Announcing the deal on Twitter this morning, they wrote: "Hit by the Laus strike today? Pablo is offering 2 for 1 Tortas until 4pm. Present your leap card at the till."

Never one to turn down free food, people are understandably all over the offer and wasted no time thanking the lads for their sound gesture.

"What a great offer from a great bunch of people in Pablos! Love those guys," wrote one chuffed Twitter user this morning while others retweeted the post to make sure we're all in with a chance to indulge.

With spots in Temple Bar, Baggot St. and Clarendon Market, you'll be spoiled for choice, so get going.

It's times like this you know who your real friends are.

Instagram would have you think everyone spends their evening whipping up gourmet meals while you crack into your second packet of crisps, right?

And while some of us are naturally talented in the kitchen, even more of us avoid that room at all costs, haunted by memories of past Home Ec. classes.

If you're time-poor, nutritionally-focussed and harbour a deep-seated fear of cooking, you'll know how difficult it can be to keep on track.

Lucky for you, we caught up with Time Management and Productivity expert, Yasmin Vorajeewhich, who advised us how to whip up healthy meals without spending all our time slaving over a hot stove.

1. Plan your meals

It seems like a fairly dreary way to spend an hour or two every Sunday, but it's actually one of the best ways to make the most of the week ahead.

Planning your meals for the week not only saves you time in the long run, but also saves you money as you can be super-strict and organised when hitting the shops for your groceries,

No more hanging around the kitchen waiting for a tasty meal to cook itself!

2. Know your staples

In the same way certain essentials can always be found in your handbag, your kitchen cupboards should also boast failsafe staples.

If your presses are guaranteed to have tinned tomatoes, rice, mixed herbs, chicken and Knorr Pan Cook, you'll never struggle to whip up a quick and nutritious meal.

Coming in at just €1.35 a pop and available in Paprika, Garlic and Herb, and Piri Piri, you'll keep things in the kitchen interesting without breaking the bank!

3. Master some recipes

Home cooking doesn't have to be a stressful, time-consuming affair as it's simply about having the right ingredients to hand when you need them! (See point 1, ladies!)

It's always a relief to know you have certain dishes you can throw together with your eyes closed, right?

By using a Pan Cook your dinner can be ready in just 10 minutes, and you'll be able to spend the rest of your evening chilling out, working out or flaking out.

4. Optimise your time

Yasmin Vorajee tells us that it's important to optimise your time when preparing meals.

If you have a phobia of all things cooking-related, you won't want to spend your entire evening in the kitchen, so get creative with your time!

Respond to emails, snap a shot for Instagram or catch up on Twitter scandal while your ingredients are doing their thing on the hob.

5. Know your outcome

Decide what you want out of your meal before you commit to the task.

If you know you're cooking for a group you need to expect to spend more time in the kitchen, but if you waste an entire evening preparing a meal for one you need to reassess your method!

Learn from your mistakes in the kitchen and remember not all of us were born with Nigella's know-how, but that doesn't mean our meals can't be tummy (and Instagram) worthy with a little slick time management!

As any cheese-lover will tell you, your standard toasted cheese sandwich needs very little improvement, but that hasn't stopped the good people of Hong Kong giving it a right ol' go.

In a move which would leave even the most dedicated cheese-eater scratching their heads, Kala Toast in Hong Kong is giving the public what they didn't know they even needed – the 'unicorn' cheese toastie.

Coming in at almost €5 a pop, this rainbow sandwich of our dreams boasts a number of different cheeses as well as a variety of different flavours.

After an Instagram post of the sandwich left most of us inexplicably salivating in recent months, the person responsible for the snap, hkfoodiexblogger, decided to give a review of the rainbow-inspired snack this week.

"The toast costs $42 HKD and those coloured cheese are lavender (blue), basil (green), tomato (red) and the yellow one is actually the combination of 4 kinds of cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, emmental and gruyere)."

"The toast was crispy, but I reckon both the flavour of the lavender and tomato were subtle. The basil flavour was the most outstanding one comparatively, but the cheese flavour still was not as strong as my expectation."

Not as strong?! How much cheese do they WANT?!

If you're the type to take pictures of your food before you eat it (go on, you know you've done it once or twice) then you're food could actually turn out tastier.

We all know Instagram is filled with #foodporn shots, but science has actually proved that it's better to take a sneaky shot before eating it.

According to the Journal of Consumer Marketing, the time you take to snap your picture provides a momentary pause in consumption which "increases the savouring associated with consumption of pleasurable foods."

So basically, if you take a photo of your food, it (obvs) takes longer to start eating it. Therefore, you'll want it more and your brain will trick you into thinking it's tastier than it actually is.

New York Magazine reports that the research was revolved around three different studies which involved 120 participants.

Ah, that's good enough for us. Get grammin' people.

Forget the Oscars, this is one awards show we know we'd REALLY be able to enjoy.

For the last 22 years, the Irish Food Writers' Guild has celebrated the very best of Irish food and native suppliers with their annual awards. This year's event took place at Dublin's Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, where chefs put together a very special menu for attendees based on the produce of the five main winners.

Unsurprisingly, the whole thing was a slice of foodie paradise from start to finish.

First up was a salad of Silver Darlings Irish herring, potato, green leek purée and toasted buckwheat:

Followed by a main of grilled Irish Hereford sirloin, Brandy Bay Oyster cream and White Gypsy Russian Imperial Stout:

After all that meat, palattes were refreshed with a Mossfield Organic Farm milk pudding and Wild Irish Foragers spring nettle syrup:

And to finish, Riot Rye Bakehouse Borodinsky sourdough ice-cream with chocolate ganache and malt bread tuile (plus a snifter of Highbank Orchards Organic Irish Orchard Liqueur):

WHEW!

If you're not drooling over your keyboard right now then you might as well live on Big Macs for the rest of your life and call it a day.

Ah, you've finally nailed getting a date on Valentine's, and it's even better if you're MEGA into the person too. So, why ruin it with a curry or ribs, huh?

If you really want to impress on V-Day, dodge these foods (you'll thank us later):

1. Broccoli

Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower should ALL be avoided. They will make you super gassy and don't forget those little florets and seeds that get stuck in your teeth. Ugh.

2. Spicy food

It's cool if you like a bit of spice, but what if your date doesn't? Don't make them sit through a dinner where they feel like their lips are on fire.

3. Ramen

You might think it shows that you're a super foodie, but it's impossible to eat these noodles and still look polite. Slurping is not a good look.

4. Ribs

Yes, we know there's nothing better than munching down on sweet baby ribs. But you don't want to look like a savage dog on your date. Plus it's waaay too messy.

5. Tacos

OK, question: how the hell are you even supposed to eat these things properly? They crack and drip and you will just end up getting salsa all over your new top. Not good.
