There’s one thing that we actually hate about the summer season; the bikini bod diets.

It feels like we’re inundated with the latest burn fat fast trends from January all the way through to September and while we love being fit and healthy, we also love Nutella.

Saying good bye to our favourite chocolate treats can be tough, but it’s all done in the name of health.

Deciding to cut out excess junk food is never easy, but finding healthier replacements can help ease the way for you. It's tempting to reach for the biscuit tin when that dreading afternoon slump hits, but now you can have something much healthier without sacrificing taste.

Hummus and crackers anyone? The Irish people have become obsessed with this protein filled snack as of late, and we think this might be taking it one step further. If you're one of the few who thought the spread didn’t seem so appealing we think we may have found the solution.

Chocolate flavoured hummus.

Yes, it does sound bizarre, but reviews are excellent and apparently it’s one of the more tasty chocolate replacements out there. Yay! All of the flavour and none of the nasties that can totally derails your healthy eating plan.

Natural food company Hope Foods make the delicious spread which is also gluten and dairy free. There’s even a coconut flavour and they use all organic ingredients.

We’re keen to try it considering that it looks an awful lot like chocolate mousse, and that’s a big winner around these parts.

Finally, a good reason to not feel guilty about a mid-week take away!

The latest research from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is saying that those of us partial to a spicy curry once or twice, or even three times, a week are living longer than those who don’t eat spicy food.

People who eat spicy favourites like tikka masala, jalfrezi or vindaloo are 10 per cent less likely to die than those who don’t eat them as often.

Even better news if you have a serious thing for curry because those who snacked on some spicy treats daily had a 14% lower risk of death.

The study was the largest of its kind and the results have also indicated that people who eat spicy foods regularly are in the receiving end of various health benefits. So basically, forget about cooking tonight, you can absolutely indulge in at least once dinner out a week, right?

Apparently regular spice eaters are less likely to die if they were suffering from diabetes, cancer, heart disease or respiratory disease.

The study was conducted using “observational” methods. Which makes us wonder if they need volunteers for a repeat study? We would be open to that for sure.

The bioactive ingredient in spices, capsaicin, is thought to be an anti-obesity, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory wonder spice.

However, some positives from the spice could be erased if people drank alcohol and reduced their exercise.

Thank you science.

We're all guilty of it: we wake up full of good intentions. We weather breakfast and maybe even lunch admirably, but at some stage we reckon 'feck it! – the diet starts tomorrow," before diving head-first into a giant glass of wine or family-sized bag of Kettle Crisps.

Because it seems that everyone is always starting their healthy eating regimes and exercise schedules 'tomorrow,' – or indeed 'on Monday…' or on the 'first of the month'.

So what's difficult about starting right now? And what can we do to give ourselves a kick up the arse?

Here, SHEmazing! brings you the ultimate guide to getting motivated…

1) Ask yourself why

Are you losing weight simply because you feel you 'should'? A lack of goals or clear targets will allow you to put off the best intentions indefinitely.

So ask yourself why: to fit back into your jeans; to look your best at a wedding; to be able to run 5km without stopping. Keep these goals in mind at all times until healthy living becomes second nature.

And write it all down too – then store it on your phone and refer back regularly.

2) Know your triggers

A lot of time, we don't really the reasons that prompt us to overeat – leading to binges. So work out how you eat and why. Do you eat because you're bored, or emotional, or thirsty? Do you always crack at 6pm? Are you someone who needs to have a treat day – or are you better off sticking to a diet plan until you start to see results?

Everyone is different – and you're best placed to identify your own nutritional pitfalls. While you're at it, clear the kitchen out of the food that you know you'll lean on after a tough day.

3) Preparation is key

No matter how much background checks you carry out – you won't get very far if you're not organised. This might mean having a stash of almonds or carrot sticks in your handbag at all times, so when hungry strikes you can reach for something healthy.

It probably means planning the week's meals in advance on a Sunday evening – hitting the supermarket accordingly.

Check out menus before eating out too in order to work out your best bets. The same goes to exercise and the gym: schedule in your sessions and stick to them as you would a job interview or important appointment.

4) Spread the word

You'll need support no matter what – so tell your friends and family of your plans to get healthy and lose any excess kilos. Explain to them that you really want to quit the yo-yo dieting cycle, and that you're fully committed to making this plan work once and for all.

Spell out why this is something that's important to you, and emphasise that their support could well mean the difference between success and failure. For your own sake too – knowing that others know will help you stay on track.

5) Get visual

Dig out a picture of you wearing your coveted size 12 jeans – or a snap of you in a bikini looking pretty great. Make copies and stick them around your house: the fridge; your wardrobe; the bathroom mirror.

Knowing that you were once fitter and healthier than you are now proves that you can be that way again. If you want, you can even stick up a snap of a celebrity body shape you really admire.

Who doesn’t want to be able to get a decent group selfie when their half way through the perfect delicious family bucket at their local KFC?

Well, according to KFC that is exactly what their customers needed and they are eager to provide. Chicken drumstick selfies for everyone!

To celebrate KFC’s 60th anniversary, the brands Canadian restaurants are going to release something called the ‘Memories Bucket’.

From what we can gather from the ad posted on their Facebook page, the restaurants will be adding a Bluetooth powered Polaroid printer. It will be attached to the bottom of your bucket of friend chicken, because why not.

Simply take your very best selfie on your smartphone, send it to the printer using and then print. According to their Facebook page, a handful of very “lucky” customers will be able to get their hands on one.

The “limited edition” buckets are probably a sign that the selfie trend has reached its absolute peak.

While we think that bringing more Polaroid photos into our lives is certainly excellent news, we’re not entirely sure we need them to feature us with our go-to snack when we’re feeling a little fragile after a long Saturday night.

Introducing our Memories Bucket – Capture memories made with this limited edition anniversary bucket. Want one? #Happy60KFC

Look, we’ve all been there at 4 o’clock in the morning standing outside McDonalds with two paper bags in hand and attempting to count some coppers to make sure you’ve got enough cash to get yourself home.

A commonly asked question around the world on a Saturday night is ‘food or a taxi home?’

There’s nothing to feel guilty about, because apparently there’s a scientific explanation.

Alcohol is a depressant. Meaning: even if you took an ‘eat clean feel mean and lean’ approach to your eating habits all week, after a few cocktails with pals on a Saturday night you’re inclined to not give a crap about the diet and eat two pizza slices at once.

“By increasing the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), people when highly intoxicated may engage in behaviours that they would normally do when sober,” Dr. Mike Fenster, author of Fallacy of the Calorie said. “These can run the gamut from violent or sexually flirtatious behaviours to less immediately destructive impulsive and risk-taking behaviours.”

Basically, scientific research proves that after a late night you are chemically wired to want all of the BLT sandwiches with extra cheese you can get your hands on. It’s not actually even your fault!

A photo posted by Yue-Chen Dai (@chennyeats) on

Alcohol tricks your stomach into wanting all of the food you can imagine.

“Several studies have shown short-term stimulation of appetite by alcohol ingestion,” Dr. Fenster said.

Alcohol messes with your appetite control and boosts your hunger levels, apparently. Unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot you can do to avoid the affects unless you’re willing to cut out alcohol completely.

“Whatever the exact mechanism, the result is that when you get drunk alcohol storms your Bastille of inhibitions and sets loose those hard-wired, instinctive and pleasure filled behaviors. And when it comes to food, those rioters are the salty, sweet and fatty treats,” says Dr Fenster.

All things in moderation seems to be the key to success, but hey, at least we know it’s not completely our fault we ate 3 Big Macs and an entire tub of ice-cream last weekend. Blame it on the alcohol.

What a great way to end the week for anyone who is a Celiac Disease sufferer, or any people who are averse to gluten in all of its glory.

Scientists are developing a simple little remedy that will allow the unlucky bunch to eat gluten. Yay! Plates of spaghetti for everyone.

At team of scientists and researchers at the University of Alberta have apparently come up with a solution to the devastating foodie issue.

According to Quartz they have discovered a supplement from chicken egg yolks that stops the absorption of gliadin. For anyone who does not have a food science background that is apparently the part of gluten that Celiac sufferers can’t digest.

“This supplement binds with gluten in the stomach and help to neutralize it, therefore providing defence [sic] to the small intestine, limiting the damage gliadin causes,” said Hoon Sunwoo, who worked on the project.

The team are due to start trials soon and they are hoping to have the supplement available to the public in the next few years.

It is going to make things a little awkward for those people who viewed Celiac disease as more of trend than anything else.

You know the ones, they can’t even smell gluten without launching into an anti-gluten protest and yet, they are right beside you on Sunday when you’re feeling a touch fragile and ordering a large carbonara at two o’clock in the afternoon.

However, the important thing to remember here is that anyone who is both Celiac and an avid pizza lover will now soon be able to indulge in the joyful combination of eating pizza and not dying. This calls for a pizza-pasta party, yes?

So look, mascara doesn’t always come very cheap. Often there’s going to be a decision to be made: Do I buy snacks, or more beauty products?

If you’re anything like some of us, then snacks are a pretty popular option. Well, don’t worry, because one helpful YouTube blogger has found the solution.

She makes mascara out of Oreos. Of course! How come we never thought of this before? Most likely because we enjoy, as so many people do, eating our food.

However, this beauty blogger makes the process look so easy that we think we might be tempted to give it a try.

The very simple method just requires you to smash the biscuit part of your Oreo into tiny pieces and then mix it with water to make for an easier application. It sounds fool proof, doesn’t it? Katharine uses an alcohol sanitizer to make sure the pot is completely clean. However, it is probably worth bearing in mind that getting a lot of food in your eye area is probably not so good for them.

One big positive about this handy tutorial, aside from being quite bizarre and entertaining, obviously, is that you don’t need to use the cream filling of the Oreos. Basically, yet another reason for you to enjoy scooping out the centre, because you really needed another reason..

Katharine is also responsible for making lipstick out of Starbursts and eyeliner from M&Ms. So, you can always try those too if you're feeling particularly adventurous.

It’s tough to find the time to eat right and exercise – but actually a few simple changes can make ALL the different to your waist-line.

Here, SHEmazing! gathers up a handful of insider weight-loss tricks and tips, so you can be trim and healthy without even trying…

1) Take the stairs:

No more excuses! But something as simple as taking the stairs can have a BIG impact on your waistline. Plus, after a day or two you won’t think twice about skipping the lift or escalator.

The same goes for standing; instead of diving for the nearest seat on public transport, stand up tall and burn calories while you commute.

2) Don't shy away from a cold blast:

OK, it’s maybe not the most pleasant thing at the time – but afterwards you'll feel great. And an added bonus is that a cold, 30-second blast during your morning shower could help you burn fat for the rest of the day.

If you just can’t manage that – at least then drink plenty of iced water. Indeed, German researchers found that drinking a litre-and-a-half of cold water daily can raise resting metabolism by about 50 calories: enough to shed a 1.5kg over the year.

3) Have more green tea:

Aim to drink a cup of green tea four times a day, and you could burn an additional 100 calories. That could result in weight-loss of a full kilo over the course of a month: not bad for doing very little other than sticking the kettle on.

If that’s not your thing a blast of caffeine can rev your metabolism by as much as eight percent, also burning around 100 calories daily.

4) Make sure to eat breakfast:

Mammy was right all along: it IS the most important meal of the day. That’s because eating breakfast jump-starts your metabolism. In fact, those who skip it (and there are a lot who are guilty of that) are four-and-a-half times more likely to be obese.

Stick to plenty of protein and slow-burning carbs though; that means that cereal, toast or fatty meats are out. A good bet? Scrambled eggs: in one study, overweight women who had two eggs a day for eight weeks lost 65 percent more weight than those who ate plain bagels.

5) Whip up some soup:

Home-made vegetable or chicken broth takes just minutes to put together. You can whip it up in the evening before you go to bed, ready for the following morning.

Have a mug before you head out for a meal (it will keep you away from the bread-basket and encourage healthier menu choices) or simply fill up a bowl and heat when you feel hungry – it will tick you over until dinner-time nicely and help you avoid nutritional pitfalls such as crisps, biscuits and chocolate.

6) Make Epsom salts part of your routine:

Weight-loss with no pain! Add one or two mugs of Epsom salts (available from pharmacies) to a hot bath to help draw out toxins in the evening. Get into a regular routine of two or three baths a week, and really speed up your weight loss.

Apparently this is a firm favourite with a load of models and celebrities – so certainly worth a try, we say.

7) Go to bed earlier:

A study in Finland looked at sets of identical twins and discovered that in each set of siblings, the twin who slept less and was under more stress had more fat gain around their tummies.

So switch off completely – that means leaving all electronic devices at the bedroom door – and move away from Netflix, you have some serious shut-eye to catch up on.

8) Just ditch the diet!

Sure, we’ve heard it all before – but it’s said for a reason: diets don’t work! If you’re carrying excess weight, then pretty much the only way to shift it is to come up with a long-term, slow-and-steady programme that champions a healthy diet combined with exercise.

Juicing, shake, meal replacement or supplement plans are a waste of your time and money. Not only that, but you could end up heavier than when you began.

So eat more nutrient-dense food, avoid empty calories and make real efforts to stay active. Give yourself one meal a week too to eat whatever you want so you’re never deprived.

This is possibly the best news we have heard all week. According to actual scientists, our quest for healthiness no longer means we need to kick bacon to the curb.

Rejoice! Bacon is delicious and we want it all of the time.

Unfortunately, it’s one of those things that is only good in small doses and that makes us really sad.

However, what if we told you that now you can eat something that is as delicious and tasty as normal bacon, but is also super healthy?

We’re not joking, this is changing the food game entirely.

Research from Oregon State University have made the ultimate foodie discovery. They found a strain of seaweed that tastes like bacon when fried.

It’s called dulse, and scientist Chris Landon told Buzzfeed that they have been working with the seaweed for years.

Originally they were looking to use it to feed a type of fish, but following that research it was suggested they look into using dulse as human food.

“I think people who are vegan or vegetarian would probably be very interested in this as a bacon substitute,” he said, or anyone.

The scientists tried a few different food items made of the seaweed like crackers and salad dressings before they realised it tasted like bacon after they fried it.

“It has a savoury, smoky taste when you try it,” Chris explained, while also pointing out that seaweed is packed with vitamins and minerals “It’s much better for you than bacon.” Seaweed is full of protein, fiber and vitamins A, C, E, K and B. Excellent news.

Currently you can buy it in health food shops in the U.S but Chris has said that “it’s gonna require private companies to step up to take it to the next level.”

Someone please take our healthy bacon to the next level!

In the last few years people have developed a love/hate relationship with carbs.

While some have abandoned them completely and get misty eyed at the mere mention of carbonara, others will proceed to tell you all about how great their life is now without them.

But did you know your locks might actually need carbs in order to unlock their most fabulous potential. Say what? Yes, it’s true.

Carbs are a source of energy that your body needs. Your hair cells grow rapidly, even though sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, so they need carbohydrates are necessary to promote growth and repair in the cells there.

A photo posted by Girls with Gluten (@girlswithgluten) on

According to Charlotte’s Book lacking carbs makes you tired, and your hair can start to feel the same way.

You can’t dismiss all carbs as being the same. Complex carbohydrates release energy slowly so you don’t get a sugar high associated with say, a full slice pan of white bread.

A photo posted by LEAH ITSINES (@leahitsines) on

Carbs that promote healthy cells and hair growth are things like brown rice, grains and whole-grain breads. Complex carbs are also full of fibre and other vitamins you need for a healthy diet anyway, so this is just a fabulous hair bonus.

A photo posted by KayleyMelissa (@kayleymelissa) on

Timing is also everything. Just like with all eating routines, if you go hours and hours without snacking your blood sugar drops. Not only will you be battling the struggles of the hangry person, but your hair will be challenged too.

This means that the cells receive less energy, so growth and repair takes longer, or may not take place at all. Start stocking up on some healthy complex carbohydrate snacks and let your hair live it’s best life.
