The Chip Van

Between getting ready for the wedding, and sitting through the ceremony, many guests become hungry when leaving the church or venue.

And what better way to satisfy them than a lovely chipper.

With food such as juicy quarter pounders, jumbo hotdogs, battered cod, crispy onion rings and chips with any sauce you want, you can't go wrong with these guys.

On second thoughts, maybe The Chip Van might be beneficial for night-time food, when, you know… you need some soakage.

You can check them out here.

Lala Poutine

If you want to go for a classier twist on a chipper, then Lala Poutine is for you.

Tate of Dublin is just around the corner, and we're getting pretty excited for the foodie festival.

There are a few ways to get prepped and ready for the bountiful banquet, and like any festival, there are some specific tips and tricks to help you make the most of the experience.

A post shared by Taste of Dublin (@tasteofdublin17) on

1. Plan ahead

Visit the website and plan the day as there is so much to do and see with all the demos, master classes and new Food for Thought.

2. Create your own foodie checklist

Check out the menus on offer from each restaurant ahead of time to curate the perfect gourmet checklist.

There are over 20 restaurants to choose from, so it’s good to come with a plan on what you want to sample.

3. Check out the live musical entertainment line up

There is plenty more than food on offer at Taste of Dublin.

Entertainment will be on the main stage from noon on Thursday to close on Sunday evening, and keeping the buzz alive are bands such Spring Break and Smash Hits.

4. Remember the weather

Taste of Dublin is primarily an outdoor event, and the forecast is good – so don’t forget the sun cream.

5. Swap your cash for florins

Taste of Dublin has its own currency, so be sure to exchange euro for Florins.

Visit one of the Florin banks dotted around the venue (or use one of the many roving Florin sellers) to buy your currency.

One Euro equates to one Florin.

Our Instagram feeds would feel incomplete without a stylised snap of our superfood salad, or a table flat lay shot of Sunday brunch, mimosas included.

But according to new research, we shouldn't actually be snapping photos of our food before we dig in.

As well as the social faux pas of making our food go cold and preventing everyone at the table from eating in the pursuit of the perfect picture, a study has shown that paying too much detail to the appearance of our food makes us enjoy the overall experience less.

Overexposure to food, brought on by looking at it for ages to create that gorgeous picture, leads to pre-satiation.

The study established 'sensory simulations as an important mechanism underlying satiation, and provides behavioural evidence that simple evaluations can produce sensory-specific satiety.'

This basically means that you're bored of the food before you even start eating it, and where's the fun in that?

'When we Instagram, we inherently must focus our attention on the item in the picture, even for that very brief moment,' the paper's co-author Professor Joseph Redden told The Independent

'This can have a range of effects on later enjoyment.'

So essentially, spending so much time 'gramming your food means that you're taking less time to enjoy it, which can ultimately lead to you not getting as much satisfaction from the meal as you could have.

And we'd much rather eat the perfect meal at it's best than get a few extra likes on Insta.

Love takeaways, but cheat day is oh-so far away?

You could be in luck, as Ireland's next big health trend combines the convenience of takeout with the health benefits of nutritious ingredients.

'Fakeaways’ are set to be the next big food trend according to more than one out of every two food fans in this country.

A post shared by Taste of Dublin (@tasteofdublin17) on

A total of 54 per cent of participants in a new Taste of Dublin survey think that fakeaways are about to be huge, and we couldn't agree more.

After all, how could combining hearty, wholesome food with the quick and easy method utilised by takeaway restaurants be a bad thing?

'This makes a lot of sense considering how health conscious Irish people are becoming and how careful more of us are about what we are eating,' said Taste of Dublin Managing Director Avril Bannerton.

'We still want to try new things, but we want to try food that won’t just be healthy for our bodies but will also taste good,' she said, citing Taste of Dublin as the ideal location to try a menagerie of new food experiences.

Ireland is clearly becoming more in tune with their nutrition, with the survey also revealing that nine out of ten Irish people consider themselves to be a foodie.

'It should come as no surprise that so many Irish people consider themselves to be ‘foodies’ considering the strong interest we have in cuisine in this country and the many great restaurants, chefs and food resources which are available to Irish audiences,' said Avril.

'Food is a big topic and being knowledgeable about food has become a badge of honour to many Irish people.'

We are SO ready to indulge in delicious fakeaways while knowing that they're actually good for our bodies.

This year's Galway Food Festival is on the horizon, and it looks like it's set to be a delicious feast for culinary connoisseurs and food fans alike.

The festival will run over the Easter weekend, from Thursday April 13 to Monday April 17.

"Galway is home to many different communities, both local and international. In an age of increased migration, we are witness to so many new people arriving in Galway bringing with them their own food culture."

"It is central that we marry these global cultures with our own in order a secure a brighter future for food," said the festival organisers.

Some of Galway's finest eateries are taking part in the foodie feast.

Biteclub, Wa Cafe, Cava Bodega, Il Vicola and Anair will all be taking part.

A number of the city's cafes are also on board, including the ever-popular Coffeewerk + Press and Caprice.

Over 100 food-based events will be happening over the weekend, all focused on the theme of food and community.

“Community and food are so closely linked as every culture and community forms a large part of their identity through food whether during celebration, through tradition and history or simply daily dining rituals," said owner of Builín Blasta Café and Bakery in Spiddal, Heather Flaherty.

Foodie bloggers have become part and parcel of Instagram life.

If you want to know what a restaurant is like, the reality is that you''ll head to the location tag on Instagram or Twitter and have a sneak preview of what's on offer before committing to a lunch date.

Amanda Holtz, the brain child behind Yummy Dublin, was inspired by this concept when she set up her now hugely popular and ever growing foodie 'gram .

Yummy Dublin has taken off massively, and so when I meet up with the American student-turned cuisine connoisseur, we are heading to an exclusive menu pre-tasting at Michelin starred Dublin restaurant Pichet.

Pichet was playing host to world renowned chef George Casey, as part of their Friends of Pichet guest chef concept, who is back in Dublin to run his elite catering business after travelling the world exploring all of the flavours Australia has to offer.

Over a first course of 48 hour marinated and cooked lamb rib, Amanda, along with her equally gourmet gifted boyfriend Aidan, gave me an insight into her inspirations for her foodie blog.

"When I would go out to dinner, I'd always look up the restaurant's food Instagram because I'm a visual person, I think most people are, so it's a way to literally see what's available," she said, leaning over to get the ideal shot of the beautifully presented lamb.

"The rib was so tender that when we picked up the rib, the meat fell completely off the bone, and paired perfectly with a mint Kohlrabi slaw, making the best lamb and mint combination I've ever tasted," said Amanda, showcasing her truly foodie palette.

On the topic of presentation, I wanted to know what the essentials are whe it comes to creating the perfect picture of food.

Yummy Dublin is awash with perfectly seasoned chips, painstakingly arranged desserts and well lit street food, and every single picture makes your stomach growl.

"Presentation is part of the fun of going out to eat. Lighting is key," she said, using her iPhone flashlight to illuminate our next course.

"My Mom and my boyfriend always get so embarrassed because they think everyone is looking when I'm standing up taking food photos and using the light on my phone to get the best look for the food. Maybe people are looking but I choose not to notice."

Next up came the tuna tartare crackers. Yummy Dublin's thoughts?

"The black squid ink cracker, made these look like artwork. They looked fab and tasted every better. I grew up living a fave minute walk to the beach, so trust me when I say, I know my fish. This tuna was so fresh and the combination was light and delicious."

"The fish course for the pop-up is a Langoustine with fennel, diakon and pomelo. Chef George made a vegetarian version for us, with avocado instead of lanoustine, and a tomato oil drizzle. The flavours!"

"We were just looking up last night where we were going to go on Valentines Day," said Amanda, nodding to boyfriend Aidan as he helped her adjust the lighting for her shots of the avocado dish.

"The Bank was an option, the clue is in the name but it's an old bank that's been turned into a restaurant. As far as scenery goes it's so cool, it's definitely Instagram worthy. They have big sharing plates so it's ideal for couples."

"Featherblade is where were actually going, we just booked our reservation last night, just because the boyfriend is such a steak lover but I think that most guys are. Also the price point is reasonable."

"There's only three main courses, but those are the places that you know they're really good because if they only have a couple of things that they specialise in then you know it's going to be amazing."

Chef George was on hand to deliver the last course of the evening, a fancy AF dessert of celery granata, raspberries and yoghurt.

"Usually I'm a chocolate girl, so this wouldn't be something i usually order, but it was fantastic. This was a perfect palate cleanser for a seven course meal," said Amanda.

Chef George Casey is heading up the seven course spread pop-up at Pichet this Sunday, January 29, in a one-night-only event that any foodie lover worth their pink Himalayan salt already has tickets for.

When we first saw this red wine grilled cheese on Delish, we were met with utter confusion.

We're super foodies here in Shemazing! HQ, and even though red wine and cheese separately is like a match made in heaven, slopping both of them together just sounded super-weird.

We were probably thinking waaay too much into this, so last night we decided to try it for ourselves… and it was a treat.

It was gooey and creamy, all the while having that dark, delicious red wine taste linger with every bite. And it was pretty easy to make.

All you have to do is make a grilled cheese like you normally would, and then make a red wine reduction, which you can find a recipe for here.

Now, relax, pour yourself a glass of vino and eat that beautiful mess.

Let's be honest, when you're out for dinner with bae or go for brunch with the girls, we all take a nice food photo for Instagram. It's kinda become a habit for every twentysomething gal.

And while we might moan about how pretensions it seems, we all love getting the picture juuust right.

Well, now there's an app that can turn your brunch into a meal for champions.

Foodie has taken food photo filters to the next level and you can choose a filter based on what kind of food you're eating.

Munching on something chewy? There's a filter for that. Biting into something crispy? There's a filter for that, too.

But the best thing of all? The angle.

We all know the best food shots are from over-head, but unfortunately we are all too morto to climb onto a chair in the restaurant to take the perfect pic.

Well, Foodie has a built-in monitor that will tell you the perfect angle at which to snap, so you can get the best IG photo you can.

So, now you can spend a lot less time taking photos of your food and actually eat it while it's still warm.

Forget the Oscars, this is one awards show we know we'd REALLY be able to enjoy.

For the last 22 years, the Irish Food Writers' Guild has celebrated the very best of Irish food and native suppliers with their annual awards. This year's event took place at Dublin's Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, where chefs put together a very special menu for attendees based on the produce of the five main winners.

Unsurprisingly, the whole thing was a slice of foodie paradise from start to finish.

First up was a salad of Silver Darlings Irish herring, potato, green leek purée and toasted buckwheat:

Followed by a main of grilled Irish Hereford sirloin, Brandy Bay Oyster cream and White Gypsy Russian Imperial Stout:

After all that meat, palattes were refreshed with a Mossfield Organic Farm milk pudding and Wild Irish Foragers spring nettle syrup:

And to finish, Riot Rye Bakehouse Borodinsky sourdough ice-cream with chocolate ganache and malt bread tuile (plus a snifter of Highbank Orchards Organic Irish Orchard Liqueur):

WHEW!

If you're not drooling over your keyboard right now then you might as well live on Big Macs for the rest of your life and call it a day.

We all love pizza. There's payday pizza, date night pizza, girls night pizza… Well, let's just say pizza is cool for nearly every occasion.

But, when you're stuck for time and have a craving, sometimes the Domino's delivery man takes way longer than you'd like.

Not to worry! Irish woman Gemma Stafford, who has travelled all over the world baking, let us in on a secret: Pizza in a mug.

It's so genius and easy, you won't want to get a take-away ever again.

Here's how to make it:

1. In a microwaveable mug, mix 4 tablespoons of flour, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, 1/8 teaspoon baking powder and a pinch of baking soda.

2. Whisk in 3 tablespoons of milk and 1 tablespoon oil and mix thoroughly.

3. Carefully place your fave marinara sauce on top. Then add some cheese, pepperoni or whatever toppings you fancy.

4. Microwave for 70-80 seconds and you're good to go!

But pizza isn't the only thing she can cook up in a mug, here's a video to try a whole combo of meals:
