An Irish soccer fan attending the Euro 2016 tournament has died in Nice.

The 24-year-old Northern Ireland supporter fell 8-metres from a promenade on to a stony beach below and later died from his injuries. A local official later confirmed the man been climbing a sea-front railing shortly before his death.

A police spokesman at the city added that the incident took place yesterday.

"Many fans were out on the promenade, and were drinking heavily when the man fell from the promenade.

"The victim was taken to Nice hospital but has since died," the spokesman said.

The identity of the young man has not yet been released.

About 10,000 fans from Northern Ireland are in France for the competition.

If you love a glass of vino in the evening, or it's your choice of drink on a night out, then you're going to love this new WINE theme park in Bordeaux, France.

Yep, a WINE theme park. Can you believe it?!

The adult resort that boats Merlots instead of Minnie's, is opening on June 1 and we think it may be our dreams coming true.

According to Refinery 29, the park has 20 areas and exhibits that are all wine-themed and a huge theatre for first-class vino movies and documentaries.

It also has numerous interactive areas that explain the culture and history of wine, classes that can turn any amateur into a wine connoisseur, and tasting sessions lead by top experts.

Oh, and probably our favourite attraction of all, you can also listen to famous stories of drunkenness, we kid you not.

Called La Cité du Vin, or City of Wine to us, it boasts architecture that was designed purely out of wine inspiration, including wine in a bottle, swirling wine around in a glass and knotted vine stocks. Mmmm.

We think we just found our dream land.

We might have to say goodbye to our Irish beauty Nadia Forde as she reportedly might be moving to France or Japan to be with her boyf Dominic Day.

The model has been living in London since winning I’m A Celeb in 2014 and now it looks like she might have to pack her bags again.

Dominic is in the running with both French and Japanese rugby clubs and it is claimed he asked Nadia to move with him if he is selected.

“Nadia is a real home bird, but Dom asked her to move with him when he decides on a new club so she said yes,” an insider told the Irish Mail on Sunday.

"This test was carried out at a private establishment specialised in carrying out clinical trials," said the statement.

A French newspaper has reported that the drug was a new cannabis-based painkiller though this is yet to be confirmed.

The Eiffel tower is one of the biggest landmarks in the world and people flock to it every year, just to get a picture beside it.

But something that many do not know is that there is a secret apartment hidden inside the tower that nobody ever uses.

When the man himself, Gustave Eiffel built the tower in 1889, he built himself a secret get-away on the third floor.

The small apartment is filled with wooden furniture and colourful wallpaper, as well as a grand piano. The designer even stashed the latest scientific equipment he found when he was out and about in Paris at the time.

But you won't get to see this apartment anytime soon. Back when Parisan high society found out about Gustave's hide-away, they began begging him to rent it out.

He wouldn't let anyone inside it though, and even to this day – 92 years after his death – the tradition continues with the apartment only open once in a blue moon for public viewing.

Perhaps the age of the ultra skinny super model is finally coming to an end.

As we are finally seeing more natural shapes on the runway (Gigi Hadid, how are ye?), France has just passed a landmark piece of legislature which protects models from becoming unhealthy as a result of their work demands.

The bill will require that all models who wish to work in the country must obtain a doctor's note proving they are healthy and fit to work based on their weight, age and body shape.

Any employers who refuse to follow the new procedures can be prosecuted and face fines starting at 75,000€ as well as possible jail time.

The bill also sets in place guidelines for the retouching of fashion images. Any image which alters a models frame significantly to be skinnier than it actually is, must now be clearly labelled as a "retouched image".

Violation of these guidelines will also result in hefty fines.

France is not the first country to have passed legislation of this nature. Italy, Spain and Israel have also put in place laws that ban models with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of less than 18 from working in the industry.

Let's hope this is the last time we are expected to think that protruding bones on the runway are representative of normal or 'fashionable' women.

Half a dozen terrifying coordinated attacks on the city of Paris have left scores of its citizens dead.

Carried out by eight or more terrorists, it is believed that at least 120 people lost their lives during last night's tragedies, although no official death-toll has been confirmed. Another 200 have also been injured – 80 seriously.

This morning, terror group Isis formally claimed responsibility for the tragedy via its propaganda agency, the al-Hayat Media Centre.

The Department Of Foreign Affairs has said that one Irish citizen is among the injured.

President Francois Hollande has now called a state of emergency – the first declared by France since the end of World War II – in response. Border control has also been stringent in the aftermath and 1,500 soldiers have been deployed onto the capital's streets.

The metro is currently shut, and all schools, museums, libraries, gyms, swimming pools and food markets in Paris are closed today.

Residents are still being urged to stay inside and a curfew may be issued again this evening.

The largest single number of fatalities – officially 87 but possibly as many as 118 – took place at the Bataclan concert hall, located just a few hundred metres from the Charlie Hebdo magazine offices.

There, Californian rock band Eagles Of Death Metal (on Monday they performed at the Olympia in Dublin) were playing a gig to an audience of 1,500 when four men stormed the venue, taking more than 100 people hostage.

Although the band themselves survived unharmed, the terrorists subsequently began randomly shooting dozens of others, reloading their weapons three or four times during the attack.

And as armed French authorities surrounded the venue a little after midnight, five bomb blasts were heard: the attackers detonated their explosive vests just as police arrived.

"I found myself inside the concert hall when several armed individuals burst in, in the middle of the concert," Julien Pearce told The Guardian.

"Two or three men, without masks, came in with Kalashnikov-type automatic weapons and began shooting blindly at the crowd."

Clearly shell-shocked, Mr Pearce went on to describe the attack as "extremely violent".

"They knew what they were doing," he added of the killers. "They were very young."

Another witness at the Bataclan described the situation to The Telegraph as "carnage". They stated that before opening fire, one of the gunmen had asked: "What are you doing in Syria? You're going to pay now."

Timeline:

  • The attacks had begun on Friday evening at 9.20pm local time (8.20pm Irish time) at two popular restaurants – Le Petit Cambodge, and Le Carillon – both on trendy Rue Bichat in the 10th arrondissement. Close-to a dozen were believed to have been killed.
  • Within minutes, another shooting then took place at La Casa Nostra, a nearby Italian restaurant – resulting in five fatalities.

  • Shortly afterwards, there were two suicide attacks and one bombing near the Stade de France where the national team were playing Germany in a friendly soccer match. At least five died.
  • La Belle Équipe, a restaurant on the Rue de Charonne in the 11th arrondissement was then attacked, with gunmen killing 18.
  • French SWAT forces storm the Bataclan, where dozens of hostages are being held. Although the siege concludes at 1am, at least 87 die – including four policemen.

In January in Paris, a series of attacks that began at the Charlie Hebdo offices saw 17 people lose their lives.

Last night, Facebook kicked-off its Safety Check app, which allowed people in the area to tell their family and friends that they were safe.

Meanwhile, several landmark buildings around the world – including the Empire State building in New York, the CN Tower in Toronto and Dublin's Conference Centre – lit up in the French colours of blue, red and white in a show of solidarity.

Flags globally are also flying at half mast as a sign of respect.

Most flights to and from Paris were this morning operating normally, although Aer Lingus says it is offering passengers the option to change their flight for free.

*Developing story: read the update here*

Residents in the French capital are being urged to stay indoors in the aftermath of multiple shootings that has left, according to local media, some 60 people dead and dozens injured.

Shockingly, up to 100 people are also currently being held hostage.

Police in Paris have said that the gunmen were armed with automatic rifles and grenades when they attacked a shopping mall, a restaurant, a nightclub and a theatre in highly-organised, coordinated attacks.

Reports from the scene say that anything from 60 to 100 hostages are currently being held by two gunmen at Le Bataclan concert hall. The attackers are said to be in possession of a significant amount of explosives.

Three grenade explosions have furthermore taken place at the Stade du France while the upmarket Les Halles shopping mall has also been attacked.

Eyewitness Ben Grant told the BBC he was in a bar with his wife when he heard gunshots being fired. He added that he saw a least half a dozen bodies on the ground.

"I was told people in cars had opened fire on the bar," he explained. "There are lots of dead people. It's pretty horrific to be honest."

He added: "I heard gunshots. People dropped to the ground. We put a table over our heads to protect us.

The first incident seemingly occurred at the popular Le Petit Cambodge restaurant on trendy Rue Bichat in the 10th arrondissement – incidentally close to where the Charlie Hebdo shootings occurred in January.

Numerous emergency services are currently at that scene.

A second shooting was then reported just minutes later at a nightclub in the area, Le Bataclan.

The national soccer team had been hosting Germany in a friendly soccer match at Stade du France when three explosions took place outside the stadium. There are as yet no reports of casualties from those attacks.

The exact motive of the shootings is still unknown, but witness at the nightclub told France Info radio that the men he saw opening fire and shouted: "Allah Akbar". He reported: "The men came in and started shooting. Everyone fell to the ground. It was hell."

In January in Paris, a series of attacks that began at the Charlie Hebdo offices saw 17 people lose their lives.

US president Barack Obama this evening called the killings an attack "upon humanity".

French president Francois Hollande, who had been watching the France Vs Germany game, is holding an emergency sitting of his parliament at midnight Paris time.

Declaring a state of emergency as the French army is mobilised, he also said in a statement this evening that France's borders are being closed in response.

In the worst traffic accident to happen in France in more than three decades, at least 42 people have been killed in a horrific head-on collision in the south-west of the country.

The country's president Francois Hollande has already said he is "deeply saddened" by the incident and has declared that the French government is doing everything it can.

RTÉ News reports that a truck and a bus collided near the village of Puisseguin, located about 55km north-east of Bordeaux, at 7.30am local time. Local media is furthermore saying that both the coach and the lorry burst into flames upon impact – something which undoubtedly contributed to the unusually high death toll.

Around 60 firefighters were called to the scene to deal with the crash.

Both drivers are dead, along with at least 40 others – French pensioners off to Les Landes for a walking trip – who were travelling on the bus. Only eight are believed to have survived the collision. Four of those have relatively minor injuries, with the other four battling serious brain trauma or burns.

Puisseguin Mayor Xavier Sublett told RTL radio this morning that he believes the truck driver lost control of the vehicle.

The bus driver "tried to avoid it, but the truck came and hit it, and he couldn't do anything except activate the mechanism to open the doors to allow some people to get out," Mr Sublett said.

Driving conditions this morning in the region were normal, but Gérard Dupuy, a town hall official in Puisseguin, told France Info the crash happened on a dangerous bend where there had been other accidents in the past.

It was the image that summed up so much for Irish rugby fans: substitute out-half Ian Madigan shedding tears of joy, pure emotion – and of relief – as the final whistle sounded at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Rising to the challenge when star-player Johnny Sexton limped off the pitch with just 25 minutes played, the Leinster-man had certainly performed when his teammates – and his country – needed him.

And although we've yet to play our quarter-final game (against Argentina – and taking place next Sunday), the Boys In Green have already given us plenty of reasons to be proud.

Indeed, with much of the country still preoccupied with 26-year-old Ian's performance – as well as that outpouring of emotion – the man-of-the-hour himself has taken to Instagram to reveal just what prompted the sobs.

"Incredible support from home and in the Millennium yesterday," he began – before tellingly adding: "Seeing mum and dad got the better of me at the end."

He furthermore included two playful emojis – a crying face and a baby.

His fans were firmly on his side, however. "Fantastic game! Who'd blame you? I was a blubbering mess meself! Bawling in the middle of the pub haha! Well done Mads," said one.

"You did us all proud yesterday Ian, amazing performance, well done!!" stated another, while a third wrote: "What a superstar!! Congrats Ian a huge performance! So deserved."

Meanwhile, there was further good news for the Irish team today: the squad moved up to No.3 in the world, just behind New Zealand and Australia respectively.

Our quarter-final foes Argentina slot in at No.6, with England, Scotland, and new-entrants Japan occupying the eighth, ninth, and 10th spots.

Daniel Day Lewis might hide from the spotlight but that is certainly not stopping his son, Gabriel, from standing out in the crowd.

The 20 year-old just landed a major modelling campaign for Parisian store, Galeries Lafayette

Gabriel, who is the son of two-time Oscar winner Daniel and French actress Isabelle Adjani, is signed up to the major American modelling agency, IMG Models

Commenting on his new campaign, Gabriel wrote on Twitter: "Literally so happy to be a part of this campaign. I used to shop at Galeries Lafayette when I was a kid.. Ironic haha."

The model is no stranger to high-profile fashion work though as he accompanied Julianne Moore down the Chanel Haute Couture runway earlier this year, while also shooting for Calvin Klein

As the years go on, Gabriel is looking more and more like his father.

Over the summer he stepped out the Vogue Paris Foundation Gala, with a look extremely similar to Daniel.

It seems things are on the up for the budding supermodel!

A beach cleaner has stumbled upon wreckage which may be part of MH370 – Malaysian Airlines’ missing aircraft.

The Boeing 777 plane vanished from the sky 16 months ago and despite an international search, no trace of it has been found since.

However, it seems that Johnny Begue – in discovering a 1.8metre long wing flap on the shore on the French island of Réunion – has made gone some way in solving the greatest aviation mystery of modern times.

The wreckage was half covered in sand and has barnacles stuck around its edges, and Mr Begue also came across battered luggage nearby his initial find.

Mr Begue manages a team of eight people charged with cleaning up the coastline around the town of Saint-Andre in the east of Indian Ocean territory.

Réunion itself is located east of Madagascar, some 175km southwest of Mauritius – and also some 5,600km away from the doomed jet's last-known location.

Yesterday morning, Mr Begue spotted the wreckage and with the help of his colleagues he was able to pull it away from the shore so it didn’t get swept out to sea again.

Meanwhile, Malaysian officials have now said they are “almost certain” the wing flap came from a Boeing 777 and aviation investigators are currently heading to the island to verify the findings.

It is expected that they will know whether the wreckage came from MH370 within days.

Locals will furthermore be questioned over the weekend in case they have picked up items – now potentially vital clues – on the beach over the last few months.

Aerial and sea support is likely to come from France, Australia, Malaysia and China, as authorities scramble to collect more debris.

Malaysia Airlines flight 370 vanished on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

A comprehensive report earlier this year into the plane's disappearance revealed that the battery of the locator beacon for the plane's flight data recorder had expired more than a year before the jet vanished.
