Low-income women in Scotland will no longer have to worry about period poverty, thanks to a government-funded trial scheme in Aberdeen that is now being expanded throughout the country.

The pilot programme distributed free sanitary products to more than 1,000 people in Aberdeen.

Now, over £500,000 is being given to the charity FareShare, in the hopes that the products will reach more than 18,000 menstruating people.

During the summer, the charity's centres in Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh will distribute pads and tampons to those in need.

As well, from August the products will be free for those at school, university, or college, making Scotland the first national government to do so.

Angela Constance, Scotland's equalities secretary, spoke frankly about the necessity of the ground-breaking scheme:

"It is unacceptable that anyone in Scotland should be unable to access sanitary products, and I am pleased that we are able to work with FareShare to make products available more widely through the services delivered by their partners."

Gillian Kynoch, the head of FareShare in Scotland, said on the matter, "We are excited to be working with the Scottish Government to use this network to make sanitary products available to people across Scotland.

"Our partners CFINE, Move On, Transform and Cyrenians will be supporting the distribution, working with low income and vulnerable people to break down taboos and stigma. This is an issue that has gone unheeded for too long."

We're happy to hear this scheme will ensure low-income women in Scotland receive basic necessities like pads and tampons.

Christmas is all about giving back, and this year it's all about celebrating the real unsung heroes of the festive season – the designated drivers.

The good folk at Coca-Cola are encouraging the people of Ireland to stay sober on nights out and give the 'Gift of a Lift' this Christmas to ensure everyone gets home safely.

What better way to show your love and appreciation for family and friends than by offering the 'gift of a lift', so they enjoy all the fun of Christmas and get home hassle-free?

In support of these selfless designated drivers, Coca-Cola will once again offer two free drinks at participating bars across the Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Choose from the Coca-Cola range or a 'Coketail' – an exciting non-alcoholic drink created especially for those giving the 'gift of a lift' this Christmas.

With digital vouchers that can be stored on smartphones, it's now easier than ever to claim your well-deserved treat.

Vouchers are available by free texting Coca-Cola to 50015 in the Republic of Ireland and 80800 in Northern Ireland.

Designated drivers can also scan the QR code displayed in participating bars and restaurants across the island.

We're both bemused and bewildered by this bar that offers women discounts based on their heel height.

Because… seriously?

We're all partial to Ladies' Night, which is hosted in many pubs, bars and clubs around the world, but Hilton Osaka’s My Place bar in Tokyo has really taken the creepy, sexist biscuit.

The named 'High Heels Ladies' Night Discount' is, believe it or not, a weekly event which offers women discounts based on the height of their.. you guessed it, heels.

Shoes have to be at least five centimetres in height to qualify for 10 per cent off your drink order.

According to Sora News 24, with every additional two centimetres, you get a further discount.

And if you have a heel height of 15 centimetres (do you want to break your back?), you will get a "top discount" of up to 40 per cent.

We're so over this kind of sh*t…

Let's face it, festivals can be pricey affairs.

From the ticket price to the outfits to the camping equipment, we'd do anything to cut down on an expense or two.

Luckily, Electric Picnic is offering volunteers the opportunity to work at the festival in exchange for free entry and access to all of the acts.

'We are looking for weekend volunteers to come and help out at Electric Picnic 2017,' reads the application page.

'Volunteers play an important part in the festival, and they also gain entry to the festival in exchange for 24 hours of voluntary work.'

'The volunteer shifts can be split in to four six-hour shifts or three eight-hour shifts.'

The role will include being the 'eyes and ears' of the festival, assisting festival-goers with general queries, assisting in the campsites, directing production vehicles throughout the site, and working at wristband checkpoints

You can find out all of the information regarding the role here.

24 hours of wristband checking to get in to a three-day festival for free sounds like a pretty good deal to us.

Checking your bank balance can be depressing at the best of times, but realising you have zero funds for beauty essentials is the absolute pits.

Thanks to some makeup-loving tech gods, this situation is currently facing extinction as a range of new “socially activated” vending machines will soon be rolled out across the UK, finally allowing cosmetic junkies to pay for products with their selfies.

According to Grazia, SocialVend machines will reward users for answering questions or sharing Instagram posts which feature a brand’s hashtag, therefore enabling social media users to benefit in a material way from all that time spent online.

We all know that sometimes the best way to get your mind off a break-up, is to get to work, and it seems like that's what Danny O'Reilly is going to do.

Just as the news broke of his break-up with Holly Carpenter yesterday, The Coronas front man is set to play a gig in Galway today – absolutely free.

screen-shot-2016-11-24-at-12-36-07

But if you're there at the moment, you better be quick because he's set to take to the stage at 2pm outside Enable Ireland on High Street (opposite Sonny Molloy's bar).

The Front Door announced the news earlier today. “If you are in town be sure to call in or tag any friends that are fans!”

If only we could get a helicopter down…

Whether you're going in to do your weekly shop, or just fancy a trip under the Christmas lights of Dublin, then Luas is going to be your number one man this Sunday.

Yep, you can ride for free all day long, but there's one very specific rule – you have to wear a Christmas jumper.

With just about a month to go until the big day, the travel bosses are feeling festive and want to try and pull off a world record.

To have the most amount of people in one place wearing a festive sweater is no easy feat, but they did it last year, and want to make 2016 even bigger.

The record attempt will take place on O'Connell Street at 4pm on Sunday, November 27, but if you can't make that, getting to travel around the city for free is a nice bonus.
