They move away straight after their Leaving Cert; embark on an Erasmus year during college, or pursue their career on foreign shores – whatever the reason, it’s likely that at least a few of your closest mates are currently living in a country that isn’t Ireland.

And, as yet, there's no sign of them returning.

Overall, you can cope with keeping up with most of them on Facebook and having a decent catch-up in the pub at Christmas.

However, there is a particular type of heartache and sorrow that comes with the absence of your BFF.

They announce, through tears, that they’re leaving you. Still, it’s only when they’ve actually departed AND given you their new – foreign – mobile number that you finally accept they’re actually gone.

Not that a true friendship has to fizzle out simply because you live in different countries: life-long buddies transcend time-zones, continents and a lack of daily hugs.

Here, SHEmazing! rounds up the eight signs that your long-distance BFF relationship is the real-deal…

1) You still WhatsApp and SnapChat as often as ever:

Obviously, you spend hours on Skype – you nattering away at 1am; her stuffing a bowl of cereal into her mouth before work. But day-to-day, you still WhatsApp and SnapChat every random musing, every annoyance, and every little thing you spot that you know they’ll love.

Same goes for outfit approval before an event or advice on what to do with a guy: if you’re unsure, they’re still your go-to.

2) You’re a time-zone expert:

You know precisely what time it is in San Diego, Moscow, Nairobi, Hong Kong or Perth. You know their timetable pretty much exactly too – and, more importantly, how your schedule fits into it. In fact, you have your respective free-time slots, lunch-breaks, and weekends rostered to tee.

3) They’re your go-to TBT stable:

Your Debs, Sixth Year holiday, graduation ball or simply a great memory created together: when it comes to #tbt, you’d never consider anyone else.

4) You send each other care-packages:

Sure, technology and social media means you’re rarely out of touch – but there’s something so special about receiving a postcard or parcel through the letterbox. That and you never get anything in the post from anyone else.

For birthdays and special occasions, you put together a mean care package too: a haul of vests and accessories from Penneys, Tayto crisps, their favourite fake tan and teabags.

5) You know you shouldn’t, but you kinda hope they lose their job/their visa isn’t renewed:

You’d obviously never say it out loud, but when they’re stressed about securing a visa for another year, or finding work, you secretly hope they’re unsuccessful and they’ll have to come home after all.

6) You still know all each other’s secrets:

They might be thousands of kilometres away and you may not have seen them in months, but you still know everything about them – and you still share everything with them.

7) When you see them, it’s like they never left:

They’re back at Christmas or for their brother’s wedding, and you’ve both spent weeks and weeks counting down to your reunion. You’re nervous and excited at the same time beforehand – and within ten minutes you’re right back at where you left off.

8) As envious you are of their lifestyle, you know they really miss home:

Another day at the beach; another day-trip to somewhere incredible. Not to mention that their weeks off are spent exploring some incredible neighbouring countries and territories.

In fact, on a miserable Irish January evening, it’s easy to think, “I really wish that was me.” However, much as your life can seem a bit mundane by comparison, you know that when they see you tucking into a proper Sunday roast (as made by mammy) and enjoying cheeky afternoon pints with your mates, they’d love to be there too.

This actor has opened up about his long-term struggles with drug and alcohol addiction in a video which was released yesterday on his 46th birthday.

Matthew Perry battled with addiction for a long time, including while he was working on the world famous sitcom Friends.

The 46-year-old opened up about his past saying he has "learned a lot" from his previous failures and he is now sober.

In the video he speaks about how important rehabilitation facilities are as "getting sober is a really hard thing to do".

He says breaking such an addiction is all about hope and that "you can't have a drug problem for 30 years and expect to have it solved in 28 days."

Matthew explains his own struggles saying that he is by nature an extremely private person, but by being on a TV show which had over 30 million people watching it, people were well aware of what was happening.

During the ten seasons of Friends it was clear that the actor was really struggling as his weight fluctuated a lot and looking back on it all he says "I've had a lot of ups and downs in my life."

Although he had a difficult past, he is happy that he can now use that to help others.

"The best thing about me is that if an alcohol comes up to me and says can you help me stop drinking? I can say yes."

Following the filming of Friends, Matthew went on to star in movies such as 17 Again, The Whole Nine Yards and Three To Tango.

Friends may have ended over a decade (!) ago, but we can still recite just about every major quote from the entire ten series. Plus, thanks to E4, box sets and the joys of YouTube, even if you weren't a diehard fan you've no doubt been subjected to repeated viewings of every episode since the show finished in 2004.

As self-confessed Friends addicts, now and forever, we were delighted to discover that there was on scene in particular we had yet to see.

Back in 2001, the crew behind Friends wrote and filmed a scene in which Monica and Chandler are apprehended at the airport and accused of being terrorists as they head off on their long-awaited honeymoon to Cancun. The reason? Chandler starts joking about bombs within earshot of security, of course.

The episode was due to air in late September of that year but had to be completely rewritten after the tragic events of 9/11 two weeks before the scheduled air date.

Although the full deleted scene first leaked a few years back, it's been popping up on social media again over the last 24 hours. We're not sure why but we aren't going to question it… anything for more of Chandler's antics, please.

It's often touted as the best time of your life – and in many ways it is: after all, your 20s is the decade that brings with a load of amazing milestones.

Renting; graduating; jobs; travel and great friendships: it's all actually pretty awesome.

You have the freedom to do pretty much whatever you want, with none of the responsibilities and stresses of the likes of home-ownership, marriage, and children (hello there, 30s!).

Let's face it though; your 20s can also be a pickle – full of uncertainties, broken hearts and set-backs. In fact, at times it's easy to let the pressures of your third decade get to you.

But the weight of the world is heavy thing – and not every little hiccup merits getting really worked up over.

So here, SHEmazing! details the top six things that women aged 20-29 need to chill out about…

1) The life-plan:

Yup, your mam and dad (actually – the entire extended family) are pestering you for 'the plan,' but when it comes down to it… you're just not sure what you want to do. It's easy to get distracted by friends too; especially when a load of your closest mates get sorted with jobs and internships mere moments out of college.

Well, for one – the whole "what am I doing with my life?" question isn't just for your 20s; that's something you'll be asking into your 30s, 40s and beyond.

And no one has all the magic answers either. In fact, you're probably doing pretty well as it is. So cut yourself some slack. It will all be fine in the end.

2) Dieting:

Most people pack on a few pounds during their 20s. We like to call it 'the swell'.

So your body changes – so what? Seriously, the amount of 35- and 45-year-olds who look back at their 25-year-old selves and wonder: "why did I ever worry – I looked fecking cracking back then!"

Because, in all likelihood, you do look cracking. Focus on being healthy and eating well and being able to run for the bus without medical intervention, rather than getting worked up over a number on a clothes tag.

3) Being a bad-ass:

Women, especially women in the workplace, still worry about being a 'bitch'. Getting on with people is definitely a good thing, as is making an effort, being polite and being personable.

However, speaking your mind; standing up for yourself; saying loud and clear 'no siree, I'm not that kinda gal,' is just as important.

Sure, you'd rather not 'make a fuss,' but playing your part is vital. And every time you do, it gets a little bit easier next time.

Maybe you get shot down anyway – but whatever the outcome, be proud of your mind – and your ability to speak it.

4) Social media:

We do it ourselves: we stick up our best pictures, taken at the best angles, in the most glamorous settings. We share the highs and ignore the lows.

And yet we still assume that EVERYONE else has this amazingly gilded life full of parties and beaches; expensive shoes and beautiful people.

Stop! Snapchat and Instagram are NOT real-life; NOT everyone on Facebook is getting engaged or getting married or jetting off to Thailand. Remind yourself as often as you need to that comparing yourself to others is pointless – especially when those others are only offering a gilded portion of themselves.

5) Contraception:

Deciding on contraception can actually be stressful, problematic, and confusing. You worry about the side-effects, not to mention that niggling two percent – or five or ten percent – margin of error: the 'well sure you might just get pregnant anyway,' window. To all that we say: relax.

Do your research and chat to your doctor about ALL your options: being prepared and taking responsibility for your own sexual health goes a looong way to placating worries.

Otherwise, simply take things when you're supposed to, and use everything exactly according to manufacturers' instructions – then get on with having fun.

6) Ditching friends:

When you're young and in a big group, you do everything with your squad: you socialise together, go to college or school together, and pretty much breathe the same air as one another.

But that changes over time – and sometimes your 'bestest ever' mate at 21 is not necessary your closest buddy at 24.

That's no bad thing – nor should you worry about streamlining your group down to a handful of 'always there for you' guys and gals.

On a similar note, kick the ones who aren't worth it to the curb without a second thought. If they're mean, draining, distracting or just down-right negative around you, then they're not what you need in your life.

We were really hoping that the entire cast of Friends still hung out together in coffee shops and each other's apartments, but the fact that some of the lead cast members were not invited to Jennifer Aniston's wedding shows otherwise.

Jennifer got married to Justin Theroux at her home last Wednesday in front of 70 guests, but Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer were MIA.

Matthew and Matt confirmed on Monday that they were not invited to their co-star's wedding and it seems they didn't even know it was happening.

Matthew, who played Chandler for ten years, told Entertainment Tonight "I was surprised, I didn't know about it." But despite not receiving an invite he went on to say that he was "very happy for them."

As for Matt LeBlanc, he also expressed his well-wishes for his former co-star saying "I wasn't there, so I wish her the best."

However it seems the girls from the television show were reunited as Matt explained that "The girls were there. You've got to have the girls there."

Despite the invite snub, there are no hard feelings between former colleagues, as the guys said the wedding reception "was small", hence why Joey, Chandler and Ross were not there to complete the Central Perk gang.

"Everybody is okay," said Matt, giving a shout out to his pals Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow.

Although the actors were not invited, the wedding was not short of several A-list celebrities. Orlando Bloom, Chelsea Handler, Tobey Maguire and Howard Stern were all in attendance, with Jimmy Kimmel officiating the ceremony.

You can’t deny that the TV series Friends was kind of a big deal back in the day. In the early 2000s the cast of the show decided to make the most of their success.

They group famously negotiated their way to be on the receiving end of $1 million per episode. Today that would be just under €1 million, in case you were wondering.

Series creator Marta Kauffman was recently discussing her latest Netflix venture Grace and Frankie when she told reporters that the size of the pay cheques the cast were getting were “kinda ridiculous”.

When asked about the difference between running her current show and her previous sitcom, she pointed out that the kind of money the Friends cast could negotiate was more than any other series at the time.

“A million dollars an episode is kinda ridiculous. Let’s be honest, that’s a lot of money.,” she told the Television Critics Association.

She said that on her current TV series it would be “unrealistic” for that kind of cash to be spent for every episode they produce. Marta explained “that was a case where the cast knew how valuable the show was to the network in terms of the advertisers."

When Friends first began in 1994, the six cast members were each paid a more modest €20,000 per episode. As the series began to grow more and more popular until it became something of a pop culture phenomenon, the cast started demanding they be paid more.

By the time the last series of episodes were on the air in 2003 they were each receiving €1 million each per episode.

While the series still remains fiercely popular, it doesn’t look like the die-hard fans will be getting their much longed for reunion. Earlier this year Matt LeBlanc told the Huffington Post that “he didn’t see it happening.”

We’ll be waiting, if it ever does happen..

For 10 years Friends kept everyone laughing with the ridiculous and sometimes not so ridiculous antics of six twentysomethings trying to figure out how to properly adult in New York City.

Although, if you turn on the TV you’re able to relive all of the entertainment all over again at almost any hour of the day. The US sitcom was just that popular.

Now we can’t imagine how you could possibly make the much-loved show any better to be honest, but someone did.

The good people at Buzzfeed BFF posted a video earlier today and we have been making loving faces at our screens ever since.

They added puppies! Puppies everywhere. Matt Le Bark is our personal fave, but feel free to find choose your own and get through the mid-week slump with a smile.

The video is a shot-by-shot remake of the original series' opening credits. Except now Jennifer Aniston is an adorable cuddly puppy and Ross is played by the next big canine actor David Sniffer.

You’re welcome.

All of the puppies in the video are rescue pups looking for goo homes at a New York based animal shelter, Pet Rescue NY.

Now we feel even more strongly about how cute this video is. How could you not want to take one of these guys home with you?

Okay, this is absolutely crazy!

Matt LeBlanc’s father has reported that his son, who played Joey on Friends, was having an affair with Jennifer Aniston while she was married to Brad Pitt.

While Matt’s father, Paul LeBlanc, is estranged from his son, he recently spoke to US Star magazine and claimed that the pair had numerous encounters between 2000 and 2005.

“He even had a relationship with one of the girls… Jen. They would make out in the dressing rooms.

“He told me about it – it was when she was married to Brad Pitt.”

While rumours have been circulating for a few days about the alleged affair, reps for Jen have now come out and said that the actress vehemently denies the allegations. She has said that the rumours are a total fabrication.

The 46-year-old said that she has never had any sort of romantic or sexual relationship with her former co-star.

Jen was married to Brad from 2000 to 2005, while Matt was married to Melissa McKnight from 1997 to 2006.

Kodaline have confirmed what we’ve been waiting to find out all these years: Courteney Cox and Monica Geller-Bing are pretty much the same person.

The band made the revelation having spent some quality time with Ms Cox – who is also the director of their Love Will Set You Free music video.

The song was written with Snow Patrol member Johnny McQuaid, Courteney's fiance and boyfriend-of-a-year (Ed Sheeran introduced them).

Steve Gerrigan, who plays guitar with Kodaline, admitted: “There was this one time where she was cooked steaks for us all and she’s just really particular about everything, slight OCD – she’s very like the character.”

The band members joked that they found it pretty hard not to start singing the famous show's theme song when the opportunity arose.

And the novelty didn’t wear off for their pals back home either. Steve added: “Our mate kept sending us voice-mail messages doing that [the friends theme tune] really loud, three times a day.”

It all worked out well in the end, however. “We flew our friends over and some of our friends it was their first time over in LA so they were arriving in and going straight to Courteney Cox’s house.”

Sounds pretty swish.

Even with the Monic-style quirks, the band obviously got along really well with the actress, saying that “she’s so lovely after talking to her for a few minutes you just forget she’s Monica.”

The boys weren’t the only ones happy with their new-found friendship. Courteney herself said they’re “amazing” and that she just had to direct the video. She was also sharing photos of the gang on Twitter after a day of shooting.

The creator of Friends has revealed how the audience reaction to Monica and Chandler hooking up in London, changed the whole course of the television series.

Marta Kaufman explained how that was meant to be a one-off but the fans reacted so favourably to it that she decided to rewrite how the rest of the series would pan out.

"We had no idea what response that was going get," said co-creator Marta Kaufman at the ATX Television Festival.

When the moment unfolded in front of a live studio audience, they were so shocked to see Monica pop up from underneath the covers with Chandler that they started screaming, and filming had to be stopped."

She added: "We thought it was going to be funny and we were going to get rid of it.

"Suddenly the audience told us they had been waiting for that and we had to rethink how we were going to keep going and change the relationship."

Fans of the popular television show, which ran for a decade, told the creators loud and clear that this was they moment they had been waiting for and thus the relationship took centre stage, taking over from Ross and Rachel.

Marta had previously revealed that Monica and Joey had initially been intended as the main couple on Friends because "they just seemed the most sexual of the characters".

This got us thinking how much we LOVE Monica and Chandler as a couple and the series would not have been the same without some of their best bits…

The one when Chandler admitted his love for Monica

The one where Phoebe found out

The one where they got engaged

The one where they adopted the twins

Basically any episode when they were THE MOST adorable couple ever..

It is completely normal for your boyfriend's friends to get on your nerves sometimes, your friends probably get on his nerves too. Whether it rarely happens, or always happens, here are five times when you were most certainly not wanting to be around "the lads".

1. When your romantic plans are replaced by the dreaded "lads night".
It's cool, not like I shaved my legs or anything…

2. When they mention your boyfriend's ex-girlfriend
It's even worse when they say they liked her and she was a laugh. By "a laugh" do you mean evil?

3. When they need him to help them "pull" in a group of good looking girls
"Have fun 🙂 xx" Abort mission, ABORT MISSION

4. When they tell you you're overreacting
Ssshhh, you weren't even there.

5. When they ask what time you're going home so they can come over
Just come over, girls aren't dangerous creatures that should be avoided (not all the time anyway).

Never fear, ladies, eventually they will start to accept you as one of the lads and once those FIFA dates start you'll be wishing things never changed.  Good luck…
