Snuggling deeper into our chair; cowering behind an outrageously giant popcorn (the only reason we upgraded from the medium size, natch) we’ve more than once let out a fearful sequel while watching a scary movie at the cinema.

And oh how we love it!

Undoubtedly among the best unnerving cinematic offerings of recent times, the Insidious films have successfully freaked the bejaysus out of millions around the world.

The first installment is now four years old, while chapter two was released in September 2013. Which can only mean one thing: we’re bravely (don’t question it – we’re brave) ready for yet another episode.

By all accounts Insidious Chapter 3, which was filmed in LA last summer and is released here on June 5, is seriously spooky – in fact, it’s being billed as the darkest film in the trilogy.

A prequel, it takes place before the haunting of the Lambert family. The plot follows gifted psychic Elise Rainer as she attempts to save a young woman from demonic possession. And in doing so, she discovers more of the terrifying realm of The Further. Eeeek!

Dermot Mulroney stars as Sean Brenner, while Stefanie Scott plays Quinn. Angus Sampson returns as Tucker, while Lin Shaye will once again play Elise Rainer.

“This take has elements the audience hasn’t seen in the previous movies, and a lot of scares,” warns Oren Peli, one of the Insidious Chapter 3 producers, and previously the director of Paranormal Activity.

“We want audiences to be absolutely terrified,” adds Leigh Whannell, the writer and director of the movie, and the man responsible for penning Saw more than a decade ago.

Both Insidious, and Insidious Chapter 2 did outrageously well at the box-office, collectively amassing more than €230m – and it looks like the third film is going to be a huge summer hit too.

Insidious Chapter 3 is released in Irish cinemas on June 5. You can check out www.facebook.com/InsidiousUK for more details about the movie. For more info and to book tickets, click here.
