Galway welcomes back The F Word, a feminist festival, this week for the second year. 

The festival is set to be a '5-day festival which will take place in venues across Galway city will explore some of the faces of feminism and related topics through participatory workshops, a 'Reclaim the Night' march, a day of meditation and relaxation, comedy, storytelling, music and a whole lot more.'

This will be a space for feminists and allies to come together to explore feminist issues. It will be an inclusive and accessible space for all women (both cis and trans) from all communities and walks of lives.'

Gardaí at Loughrea in Galway are investigating an incident in which a woman in her 20s was taken to Portiuncula Hospital following a machete attack on Friday night.

Speaking to SHEmazing, Gardaí elaborated on the incident saying: "The incident occurred at 9.45pm on the 16th June following an incident of criminal damage to a vehicle involving a number of people on Main St, Eyrecourt."

"The woman, who was an occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Portincula Hospital with non life threatening injuries," they confirmed.

Commenting on the incident, local Fianna Fail TD Anne Rabbitte said the community was understandably left shaken following the night's incident.

"The community felt so upset about it that they had to hold a public meeting because they lived in fear on that night because they were afraid to walk down their street, they were told to stay inside doors, they didn't know what was going on," she said.

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and no arrests have yet been made.

Gardaí in Galway are appealing for witnesses after a 30-year-old man was struck by a car on the Moycullen Road in the early hours of this morning.

According to reports, the pedestrian was transported from the scene of the incident to University College Hospital Galway at approximately 01.40 where it is understood he remains in a critical condition.

The road at Bushy Park is currently closed as Garda forensic collision investigators carry out an examination of the scene.

Motorists should be aware that diversions in the area are currently in place.

92.9 per cent of Ireland’s 140 identified bathing waters met the minimum required standard for sufficient water quality, according to a new report from the Environmental Protection Agency. 

Ireland also saw an increase in its standard of water quality, with 85.7% per cent of bathing water classed as being either excellent or good, an increase on last year which sat at 83 per cent. 

However, six bathing waters in Ireland failed to meet the minimum required EU standards and were classified as being of poor quality.

Clifden, Ballyloughane and Tra na bhForbachabeach, cared for by Galway City Council, Merrion Strand of Dublin City Council, Loughshinny and Portrane of Fingal County Council all failed to meet the required standards.

Some of the issues raised include surface waters, drainage misconnections and birds in Merrion Strand.

Septic tank discharges in Loughshinny and sewage discharges and surface run-off in Portrane were also identified as problem areas.

Galway is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, and one couple chose the city's busiest street as the location for their first dance.

Kate Divilly and Declan Tannam opted to wed in the City of Tribes last week, and as Today FM discovered, the pair had an epic first dance on Shop Street.

As the wedding party returned to the hotel, a band was busking (like always) on the street, and the party couldn't resist having a dance there and then. 

The special moment was captured by a member of Brown Thomas staff who had an eagle eyed view of the occasion. 

'We were walking past a band and everyone was clapping at us and taking pictures and then the band spotted us,' chief bridesmaid Aoife Doyle told Today FM. 

'We were saying ‘play Galway Girl’ because Kate is from Galway and they kind of looked at us and went ‘we don’t know that one’

Major congratulations to the couple, and this first dance is going to go down in Galway history.

Galway native Dave Donoghue has broken a Guinness World Record for the longest guitar lesson in the world.

Dave began his lesson in Monroes Side Bar in Galway at 9am on Good Friday and finished up at 9am on Saturday.

Although, he went beyond the 24-hour mark "just in case."

The guitar teacher, who owns Kaizen Guitar, raised funds while completing the record for Jigsaw Galway – a free, non-judgemental and confidential support service for young people in the county.

Dave his his target of €5,000 but online donations are open for another week.

Dave told The Irish Mirror: "It was something I wanted to do since 2013 and I am just overwhelmed today that it has happened. We have done it and people were just so supportive to this dream of mine.

"Some students were here for 13 hours playing. It has been a surreal 24 hours and I don't think I can ever thank all my support team behind the scenes enough."

Dave also talked about his company, Kaizen Guitar, which aims to improve the quality of lives around the world by helping people realise their full potential.

“We intend to play a significant role in the future of guitar education, making it as fun and as accessible as possible for all ages and abilities. It’s all about the individual and what their interests and passions are.

"Kaizen is the practice of continuous improvement. It’s all about enjoyment and learning through the persons interests be it sport, reading, music or art."

If you love a good circus, then this will be like your favourite one x10000.

This coming Wednesday, April 19, Circus 250 is holding a VIP launch party, which is being hosted by the Irish Street Arts and Spectacle Network.

For two hours only, Cirque du Gaillimh will perform under the Big Top in Claddagh which will entail a circus and music spectacle starring 70 teenagers from Galway Community Circus and Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe Youth Orchestra.

On the night, Circus 250 Ireland will announce plans for 2018 with partners from across the arts including Galway Community Circus, National Gallery Ireland, Belfast-based Tumble Circus, traditional Circus Gerbola, aerial dancers Fidget Feet and Duffy’s Circus, and the Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network (ISACS).

Then on Saturday and Sunday, April 22- 23, 40 young performers from Galway Community Circus, together with the Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe Youth Orchestra, will perform a new and original piece of theatre entitled Cirque du Gaillimh: The Greatest Show in the West.

And there's some pretty fab stars involved too, with actor Gabriel Byrne, singer Camille O’Sullivan, actor Sir Tony Robinson, Riverdance co- founder John McColgan, entertainer Little John Nee and national treasure Panti Bliss lending a hand to the event.

The 2018 anniversary will be marked by an Ireland-wide celebration. Circuses, museums, filmmakers, designers, theatres and circuses will all join in on the celebrations.

RTÉ broadcaster, Joe Duffy, said of Circus 250: “The wonder of the big top, the collective sighs, screams and roars as we sat in awe of this wondrous cornucopia of colour and death defying acrobats is the memory that stays with me to this day.

"Thankfully with circuses like Duffys – no relation – still touring Ireland with their cavalcade of magic I can still experience it today.

"When the circus left, I stood gazing at the empty field, looking at the barren spot that only minutes before hand was a circus ring. The trucks disappeared into the distance, the wonderful memories never did."

This sounds like it's going to be epic.

So, Ed Sheeran is currently in the country playing his sold out gigs in the 3Arena, Dublin.

While visiting the emerald isle, the singer took the time to visit Galway to shoot a music video for his smash hit single Galway Girl.

The star was spotted in a pub in Salthill, Galway, and as word began to spread about his location, a crowd gathered.

Uploading a snap of the crowd to Instagram, the singer said: "Thank you to Galway and all the wonderful people in it for helping us shoot a music video yesterday."

Never one to be exclusive, the singer also took to Instagram last night after performing the first of two sold-out gigs in the capital. 

Ed snapped a picture of the crowd, captioning it "Dublin night 1."

While the singer was in town, he revealed to 98FM’s Big Breakfast that Tommy Tiernan features in his new music video. 

While chatting about the video, the singer revealed that the comic asked him if the mayhem in Galway on Tuesday evening happens a lot.

"I said to him I shot a video in my home town in Suffolk and literally nothing near what happened in Galway. I do think it's just an Irish thing. I don't think there's any other place in the world like Ireland for me," Ed replied.  

Ed is clearly as big a fan of the Irish people as we are of him.

We love Ed Sheeran here at the SHEmazing! HQ, so when we found out that he was in the country, we got a little excited. 

Ed Sheeran was reportedly spotted in a pub in Salthill, Galway yesterday evening.

The singer was there shooting a music video for his smash success single, Galway Girl, so it was only right that he shot the video in the West. 

The singer was in O'Connor's pub in Salthill, and rumours of his presence drew a curious crowd. 

Ed obviously has a soft spot for Galway, after busking there as a teen, and now, paying homage to the county in his new song. 

The singer is also in town ahead of his sold-out concerts in the 3 Arena Dublin.

Ed Sheeran has been having a moment with Ireland, between his new song Galway Girl tugging at all of our heart strings, and his sold out Irish tour dates.

We thought all hope was lost when it came to ever getting tickets to Ed's gig, but now the singer is giving us some hope. 

The star has come up with a treasure hunt, in which people have to find the lyrics to Ed's song in an unknown place marked by coordinates on this map.

The undisclosed location has already been revealed by some fans to be Eyre Square, Galway, which is fitting seeing as Ed's one that got away clearly lives there, according to his new tune.

Ed fans have until March 10 to get down to Galway and take a picture with the lyrics to be in with a chance of winning tickets to his sold out 3 Arena gig as well as a meet and greet. 

Fans then have to upload the image it to social media with the hashtag, #DivideLyricsIE.

The M6 is going to be chock-a-block!
