In case you missed this entire furore, Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé hit the headlines over the last few days over their outfits while performing together in South Africa.

While Beyoncé was dressed like… a QUEEN… Ed Sheeran wore his usual t-shirt and jeans attire.

Social media users have commented on the possible gender dynamic between the two, where the female singer is under pressure to look a certain way, while the men are allowed to dress in whatever manner they want;

Others online think the entire debacle is rather hilarious, and Ed Sheeran evidently is on this side of the sea.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter is known for his down-to-earth style of things, and replied with predictable humour.

He posted a purchase link to the t-shirt which he was wearing in the performance on his Instagram story;

Instagram/@teddysphotos

He later added:

"Follow hoax1994 for more of my amazing fashion choices x. #dresstoimpress"

The clothing company Hoax are of the same mind as Sheeran, and posted to their own Instagram feed:

Well, you can't say he doesn't see the funny side of things.

He doesn't appear to be very concerned about the whole debate online, at least Hoax are getting some top quality promotion because of it all.

What are your thoughts, does Ed need the Queer Eye guys to give him a make-over?

A photograph taken of our Lord and Saviour Queen Bey and arguably the world's current most popular singer-songwriter has sparked a MAJOR debate online about gender and an artists' 'brand'.

Why? Well, mainly because Ed was dressed like he was popping down to the local Spar to grab a one litre carton of milk, while Beyoncé was dressed, I mean, like BEYONCÉ. Fierce, fiesty and fabulous.

A few Twitter users have claimed that this displays an attitude towards gender norms, showing the expectations which women have on their shoulders to look stunning 24 hours a day, while men can wear whatever they damn well please.

The two global superstars performed together in Johannesburg, South Africa last weekend to celebrate the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100.

The duo paid homage to the late Nelson Mandela, who Beyoncé claims has hugely impacted on her parenting principles with her three children; Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir.

Of course, the pair simply had to perform the gift of their huge worldwide hit, Perfect, which the crowd essentially sang louder than them. Yet their choice of clothing has grabbed nearly the entirety of the focus.

Beyoncé has always worn the most EXTRA outfits in the business because it's part of her essence, her brand and her overall look.

She is a massive lover of fashion, even designing her own lines, while Sheeran has always been open about stripping back everything so that only his musical talent is on display.

Singer-songwriters always perform with the hope that their stories within the songs are what is focused on, whereas Beyoncé is a performer.

She uses choreography, graphics, lighting, backing vocals, political statements, her own music AND fashion to make her statements.

Lest we forget, her iconic Coachella performance was famed for the fashion choice as well as it's artistic mastery. Her On the Run tour outfits have changed the GAME of musical attire, her Formation hats especially grabbing the attention.

They exacerbate her talent, but we all know that if we strip Queen Bey of her dress choice, her choreography and her light show and graphic background, she would still deliver an incredible performance.

Yet numerous Twitter users argue that male artists can stand on their talent alone, whereas women must always have a more-than-presentable appearance, they must always have something else for their audience.

Ed Sheeran could wear a pin-striped suit if he so desired, but this would not run parallel with the branding behind his music. His image is the fact that he has no image; it's all about his own chill, laid-back vibe.

He has gained notoriety especially in the States for his appearance, or seeming lack of effort, yet this normal attitude towards fame is what allowed him to stand out in the first place.

He wasn't trying to get attention, he simply became a phenomenon for his musical gift alone. He was relatable, a man of simple taste with a great voice and immense penchant for songwriting. Artists should be able to decide their own looks and style, without their labels, the media or even their fans interfering.

Other humorous online statements are simply trying to dispel all the tension…

Do their outfits say more than we think?

Plenty of female singer-songwriters wear less elaborate, glamorous clothing, such as our new best friend Sigrid, who noticeably wears zero make-up onstage and sports only a plain white t-shirt and jeans.

Perhaps it would be best if we simply allowed artists, not to mention the general society at large, to wear whatever they please without having to worry about the incessant judgement of fans and random Twitter users.

Just a thought?

St John of God Research Study Day are currently presenting findings from their studies, which show a rapid increase of people presenting with gender dysphoria.

Today is the 28th Annual St John of God Research Study day, and features researchers and academics from the medical field displaying the results of their analysis.

Consultant Endocrinologist at St. Columcille's Hospital Loughlinstown, Professor Donal O'Shea, has stated from his own exploration in the field that 210 people presented with the condition last year, increasing from 10 in 2007.

This represents a 2100% increase over the entire decade. Dr. Paul Moran, Consultant Psychiatrist at St John of God Community Services, has joined Professor O’Shea to discuss the imperative needs of transgender people.

This vital talk comes just ahead of the launch of the National Gender Service, which hopes to make a difference in the difficulties which numerous members of the transgender community face daily.

According to Professor O’Shea:

“We see the most positive outcomes for patients experiencing gender dysphoria when a holistic and better paced transition journey is taken, with family support. I have observed patients who transitioned hastily, ultimately regretting the decision after irreversible treatment has taken place."

"The new national gender service has been established to address the rising prevalence of gender dysphoria and to ensure that those individuals who require this service receive the best possible holistic care."

St John of God Research Foundation Study are aiming to further examine the theme of 'an evidence based path to service provision; as well as interim results on the gap in mental health care for teenagers and young adults.

Another disturbing fact raised today stated that 50% of the general population who are experiencing mental illness are not being referred for child and adolescent mental health services after the age of 18.

The adult mental health services could intervene at this crucial time in the lives of those experiencing mental illness such as suicidal ideation, eating disorders, depression and ADHD.

The St John of God Research Foundation is presently being funded by the European Commission, and the landmark MILESTONE study is being conducted across 8 European counties, Ireland included.

Professor Fiona McNicholas, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at St John of God Hospitaller Services and Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin is leading the Irish research on the MILESTONE study. She stated that:

“Mental health disorders are established early in childhood and for many persist into adulthood. The interim results of the MILESTONE study highlight that by not transitioning adolescents with established mental illness to an appropriate mental health service, we are leaving vulnerable teenagers without the support and medical care required."

"Without treatment, progress and recovery is hampered. Many will present only at times of crisis to emergency services, such as following suicide attempts or self-harm."

"They are prevented from receiving appropriate treatment that would help them live healthier lives, instead the huge percentage of young people not transitioning are more likely to be marginalised and experience homelessness, drug abuse and unemployment.”

Ireland's failure to effectively transition it's youth is not unusual for Europe. Broad European findings of the MILESTONE study which are being presented by Dr Helena Toumainen, from the University of Warwick supports this argument.

Vanessa Lacey from the Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI) will be speaking today regarding loss from a transgender family's perspective.

At our age, we are poorly attempting to juggle a career, a social life and self-care.

Honestly, it can be exhausting.

So it's little surprise that when it comes to getting our freak-on – we would rather watch Netflix without the chill.

It seems that our perception of this is skewed, according to this research.

The BBC asked people in Britain and US how much sex they think people between the ages of 18-29 were having.

The results were in and to be honest, we are kinda shook – they're wild.

The average guess were that young men in both countries were getting down and dirty 14 times in a month.

Sorry lads – but it couldn't be further from the truth – it was actually just five times in Britain and four in the US, says surveys on sexual behaviour.

But wait, it gets better.

It's our turn ladies and supposedly Brits think we are getting our bit 22 times a month, while Americans think it is 23 times.

Now, let's crunch the numbers properly.

This means we would be having sex EVERY weekday.

PLUS, doubling or tripling up on special occasions.

Immediately, our first thought is how on earth do we find the time?

I call it a success when I manage to get three square meals in, never mind trying to squeeze a daily sexy session in.

Here is where I will burst the bubble, in reality women our age are having sex five times in four weeks. – That sounds a tad more accurate.

But, why are the misconceptions around how much sex we are having, so big?

Well, people white lie for various reasons around their sex life.

Judgement remains high and societal norms surrounding gender and sex are prominent.

This was evident when in the same survey the BBC asked three different nations how many sexual partners they had notched up, by the time they reached the ages 45 to 54.

Guesses for males were scarily accurate, in Britain and Australia the average was 17, and in the US, 19. – Most participates guessed these correctly.

However, when it came to questions around sexual behaviour in female and males – eyebrows were raised and perhaps lies were told.

Women reported much lower sexual experiences than their male counterparts, even saying that they've had half of the sexual partners in comparison to men.

However, there's a problem statistically – the amount of sexual partners for both genders should somewhat match.

Since both men and women are saying they're having sexual relations and they make up roughly the same amount of the heterosexual population – it would be impossible for women to have half the partners of men.

But time and time again, this is a common finding in surveys, amongst our friends and depending on the circumstance – some of us have even tweaked our number.

This survey goes to show that perception has a seriously powerful influence on society.

Our age group probably needs to get laid a little bit more.

And gals – you aren't defined by a number so own your experiences and don't be shy about your sexual partners.

And if you're friends are bragging about the amount of sex they're having – you can presume that they're fibbing.

Worrying new research has shone a light on the way employers view men and women in the workplace.

According to a YouGov survey for the Young Women’s Trust, bosses are up to five times more likely to lable their male employees as ambitious, when compared to their female counterparts.

Confused? Offended? Downright appalled? – Us too.

But it gets worse.

For the study, 800 employees with human resources decision- responsibilities were asked a series of questions about the gender differences in the workplace.

Results revealed that men were perceived as the confident of the sexes, while women were said to be more “conscientious” at work.

As well as that, one-in-three participants said they believed sexism exists in their workplace while one-in-eight admitted that they knew of sexual harassment that had gone unreported.

And as if all this wasn't bad enough, one-in-10 revealed they were aware of a gender pay gap at their company.

While none of these findings have us jumping for joy, we're calling BS on the ambitious thing – and we're not the only ones.

“Young women do not lack ambition but too often they are held back by employers who – knowingly or not – discriminate against them,” said Dr Carole Easton OBE, chief executive at Young Women’s Trust.

“It’s no wonder women are held back in the workplace when those making hiring decisions have such outdated views,” she added.

“It is employers and our economy that miss out on the talents of young women as a result. Young women who want to work are meanwhile struggling to make ends meet and finding themselves in debt.

“We need urgent action to improve young women’s prospects and give them hope for the future.”

Earlier this year, P!nk explained that she has had to tackle some very delicate issues with her six-year-old daughter, Willow.

While accepting the 2017 Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. the singer revealed that her oldest child considered herself ugly.

"I look like a boy with long hair," Willow told her mother.

Stunned by both her daughter's candour and lack of self-belief, P!nk decided to use world-famous artists to teach her daughter that refusing to follow the crowd when it comes to a gender-specific appearance is something to celebrate.

As P!nk explained in her speech, her approach seemed to work, and Willow is now growing up in a 'label-less' house – something the singer feels is a benefit to her daughter.

Speaking recently to The Mirror, the singer reaffirmed: "We are a very label-less household. Last week, Willow told me she is going to marry an African woman. I was like, 'Great!'"

"And we are going to live with you while our house is getting ready," Willow warned her mum.

However, Willow's family home isn't the only place where diversity is celebrated P!nk added, before recognising her child's school attempts at contributing to the conversation.

"The bathroom outside the kindergarten said, 'Gender Neutral, Anybody,' and it was a drawing of many different shapes," the What About Us said.

"I took a picture of it and I wrote: 'Progress.' I thought that was awesome. I love that kids are having this conversation."

"People brought toys and gifts and she was opening them all up the next day and she (North) said, ‘Mom, since baby sister’s not here, I think I need all of her toys in my room and I’ll play with them and just make sure they’re all okay for baby sister."

"You just told us it's a girl!" interrupted host Ellen.

Oops.

Meanwhile, Kim has opened up about using a surrogate to carry her third child, admitting that the lack of control has made the process “so much harder” than she originally expected.

Having already given birth to two children with husband Kanye West, the 37-year-old decided to opt for surrogacy after she was advised to not carry any more children for medical reasons.

Kim's difficult pregnancies where well documented on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and while surrogacy has definitely has helped the star keep her health in check, she admits she's been finding it difficult to adjust.

“You know, it is really different,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

“Anyone that says or thinks it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong. I think it is so much harder to go through it this way, because you are not really in control.”

Baby number three is expected to arrive in January 2018.

A new report by the Economic and Social Research Institute has once again highlighted the gender pay gap that exists in the Irish workforce.

According to figures, which were published this morning, women are twice as likely to earn minimum wage with 6.9 per cent of female employees earning under €10 an hour.

This is compared to just 2.9 per cent of male employees.

The report suggest that this is due to the fact that women are more likely to work part-time jobs or seek employment in smaller firms in sectors such as accommodation and food.

“Jobs with these characteristics raise the likelihood of minimum wage employment,” the report said.

The research also found that 13.9 per cent of people aged 18-29 and 9 per cent of non-nationals earned the minimum wage.

The minimum wage in Ireland currently stands at €9.25 an hour, though there have been calls to increase that to a 'living wage' of €11.50 an hour.

Ashton Kutcher has confirmed that he is expecting a baby boy with his wife of one year, Mila Kunis.

Speaking on the Today show this morning, the 38-year-old actor let slip the sex of his second child while explaining why he believes his two-year-old daughter, Wyatt, has some understanding of her mother’s pregnancy.

The Two and a Half Men star said: “[Wyatt] points to Mila and she's like, ‘baby brother’ when she points to the belly.”

“Then she points to dad and she goes, ‘Beer’, so I think she gets there's something in the belly but I don't quite think that she knows that it's not going to be a plastic doll yet.”

While admitting that the idea of having a second child is “intensely scary”, Ashton joked that he has learned kids are “pretty durable”.

“You’re not going to break them,” he noted.

Last week, a source close to the couple told Life & Style, that Ashton and Mila “couldn’t be happier” about adding a boy to their family.

“Even though they told everyone that they'd be happy with another girl, a son is what they were both really hoping for,” they said.

MTV reality star Jenelle Evans has announced that she is pregnant with her third child – and this time it’s a girl.

This morning the North Carolinian brunette shared her big news in a sweet Instagram post which read: “Time to introduce the world to our baby girl soon, Ensley Jolie Eason.  She will be arriving Jan 28.  We couldn’t be any happier.”

The attached picture shows Jenelle and her current partner David Eason posing in a lake, with Jenelle gazing up at David while he looks down at her stomach.

Last month the Teen Mom 2 star’s pregnancy was indirectly revealed when she hit headlines after being involved in a car accident with David.

As the news broke, reports began to circulate that the 24-year-old television personality had told police officers at the scene that she was 10 weeks pregnant, before complaining of abdominal pain and being transferred to a medical centre.

Jenelle already had two little boys.  Jace – who is currently in the care of his grandmother Barbara Evans – is seven years old, and Kaiser – whose father Nathan Griffith actively appeared on the popular reality TV series – is now two.
