The infamous producer boldly signed the Beatles after hearing a rough demo in 1962, despite label Parlophone Records being focused mainly on comedy and jazz at the time.
George went on to hone the sound of the group and produced nearly all their songs.
The father-of-four became an influential name in the music business with his career spanning over sixty years, 30 number one songs to his name in the UK and 23 in the US.
Stars have taken to Twitter today to honour the producer:

Every time I record at abbey road I geek out and play with the mics sir George Martin used. What an ear, what a life, what a legacy.
