There's no doubt 2017 will go down in history as the year the humble G&T was reborn – and you won't see us complaining.

Bars across the country have played a huge part in Ireland's gin renaissance, with many putting their own twist on the classic drink.

Whether its an elder flower tonic or a sprig of fresh mint, every gin lover knows exactly what it takes to make their perfect G&T, and nows there's an event to celebrate this delicate art form.

This Thursday, June 29, The Headline Bar and Ha'Penny Gin are offering their customers the ultimate gin experience, complete with Ireland's first live botanical wall.

Those attending the event will be able to customise their G&T with whatever combination of fresh herbs their heart desires, before choosing a fruity garnish at the citrus area.

And as if that wasn't enough, attendees will then indulge in some glorious G&T cupcakes from the Cupcake Bloke and cheese boards.

Gin, good. Cupcakes, good. Cheese, good!

Tickets are free and are available to download through the event page.

Cheers!

Unless you're going to a heavenly brunch, it's very unlikely you are served booze before 12pm.

With champagne and vodka making their way into acceptable alcoholic Bloody Mary breakfast beverages, there isn't really much else if you want a tipple in the morning time.

However, this gin yoghurt is about to change all that.

Yep, Greek-yoghurt company, Rachel's, has decided to add gin into its lemon yoghurt, and we couldn't be more delighted.

And it's not just flavoured with gin, there's actually some booze in it too.

OK, well there's 0.5 per cent to be exact, which in beer is classed as non-alcoholic, but you know… flavour.

Unfortunately, it's only being sold in Sainsbury's at the moment, and the closest one to us is Ballymena in Co Antrim.

Our fingers are crossed though that it'll soon be available in a supermarket near us.

Saturday morning breakfasts in bed would be so much more delightful…

There are a plethora of gin festivals taking place in Dublin this summer, but one gin gala stands out among the rest.

The Dublin Bay Gin Cruise sounds like complete weekend goals, so if you're not hitting up Taste of Dublin or The 1975 gig in Malahide Castle, this could be an option.

The cruise involves an amazing gin workshop on board.

The private boat will coast around around Dublin Bay, while revellers indulge in crystal, strawberry and rosé gins.

Unfortunately, tickets for this epic endeavour are sold out, but there is still a chance to board the gin vessel.

According to the event managers, if you want to be in with a chance of being on board this weekend, you need to sign up for the waiting list.

'To get on the waiting list, or to hear about our next event (we run loads!) fire off an email to admin@jcisouthside.org with your name and phone number with the subject line "Waiting List for Gin Cruise"' advises the page.

Everything – yes, including the gin – is included in the ticket price of €40.00 if you manage to get past the waiting list.

Gin lovers, listen up, because one very delightful-sounding gin has just been crowned the Best Gin in the UK.

Brighton Gin, handmade in (you guessed it) Brighton, has been given the esteemed accolade, and now we're gasping to get our hands on a bottle.

The gin received the grand title at The People's Drinks Awards, where the public blind tasted numerous gins and chose the most delicious.

'Brighton is such a creative, pioneering, free-thinking place, with a long-standing heritage of invention and pleasure seeking and a cast of notorious, mould-breaking characters throughout its history,' founder of Brighton Gin, Kathy Caton told Cosmo.

'With Brighton Gin, we wanted to create the absolute top quality spirit this city deserves and we’re ecstatic that people across the UK have voted us as the country’s best gin.'

A post shared by The Gin Baker (@theginbaker) on

Brighton Gin is made with 100% British organic wheat spirit, which we re-distill with juniper, fresh orange and lime peel, locally-grown coriander seed and milk thistle. Yum.

The gin is hand crafted in Brighton (duh) but there are more than a few online stockists who can deliver the smooth beverage straight to your door if you don't happen to be visiting the UK anytime soon.

Harvey Nichols, The Gin Box Shop, Vineyards Direct, Gin Festival, the Gin Kiosk, Craft Gins and Gin Parlour all stock the strong stuff, and you can even get it on Amazon.

We'll be waiting for our package in the mail like…

Move over chocolate and strawberry, a new ice cream flavour has arrived to steal the top spot on our favourite flavours list.

We love ice cream, and we love gin, so combining the two to create a tasty gelato concoction is the stuff of dreams.

Scoops, located in Ranelagh and on Aungier Street, Dublin, is serving up scoops of the soft stuff laced with Hendricks gin and Fevertree tonic.

If that wasn't enough, the gelato is also flavoured with cucumber, so it's literally like indulging in a refreshing G&T with all the toppings.

But better, of course, because ice cream.

They also serve crepes and coffees, so if you have one G&T gelato too many you can sort yourself out with a strong brew and a bit of soakage.

Please, just serve us a vat of the stuff…

So, the world's first anti-aging gin has just landed in Ireland and we are very, very intrigued.

CollaGin's (wahey!) unique recipe stays true to that of a classic gin, but there's one major twist – and it comes in the form of pure collagen.

The unique drink is the brainchild of Liz Beswick and Camilla Brown, two PR girls turned 'gintreprenurs'.

The business savvy pair saw a gap in the market for a collagen distilled spirit, and quite frankly, we're just sad we didn't think of it first.

CollaGin's official website lists a number of serving suggestions, including something called 'The Elixir' which got us very excited.

Check out the recipe below.

  • 60ml CollaGin

  • 30ml lemon juice

  • 15ml 2:1 sugar syrup

  • 15ml egg white

  • Top up with soda

''Combine the CollaGin, lemon, sugar and egg white in a cocktail over ice and shake hard for 15 seconds. Strain into a small, chilled wine glass. Garnish with pink peppercorns and a sprig of mint.''

If you fancy getting your hands on a bottle, CollaGin is now available at The Loop in Dublin Airport and will cost you €60.00.

Between choosing between an ice cold vat of gin or an ice cream on a hot summer day, the millennial struggle can be real.

But what if we told you that there was a famous little ice cream shop in the Emerald Isle that served up a combination of the two?

Murphys Ice Cream is based both on Main Street in Killarney and on Shop Street in Galway city, and the soft-serve shop is slaying when it comes to flavours.

The innovative ice cream parlour has come up with a way of combining luscious lashings of Dingle gin to the frozen treat, and we're here for the flavour to trump all flavours.

Reviews of the shop rave about the gin ice cream, and we're dying to try it out for ourselves.

As well as gin, Murphys is offering amazing flavour combos like Irish coffee with whiskey, Dingle sea salt and caramelised brown bread.

Take all our money, like, now.

The only words we want to utter on a Saturday night are 'pass the gin, please.'

We all have our brand of choice, but one gin company is winning all the awards for quality.

A Devon-based gin company has been named the best in the world,a and there is no way we're not going to try and acquire a bottle.

A post shared by Salcombe Gin (@salcombegin) on

According to The Plymouth Herald, Salcombe Distilling Company, based in South Devon, won two awards at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition 2017, which is one of the most prestigious spirit events in the world.

The distillery creates Salcombe Gin, and won first place in both the World Spirit Competition and the Beverage Testing Institute awards.

The gin is distilled with 13 botanicals that are hand sourced from around the world, including Macedonian juniper, English coriander seed and fresh citrus from historical trading routes once served by the famous Salcombe fruit schooners. Sounds lit.

'We are ecstatic our Gin is now being recognised internationally, an incredible accolade after all the hard work of the past year,' said the company's co-founder, Angus Lugsdin.

'Our main objective is to produce an exceptional hand crafted gin and we strive for perfection in every step of the process. These awards are a real testament to our ethos and hardworking team in Salcombe, Devon.'

There were 2,252 other entries in the running for the title, so it was no mean feat.

'Launched in July 2016, Salcombe Distilling Company is still a relatively new brand, so to be recognised globally at this early stage is a huge honour,' said Howard Davies, the other co-founder of the Salcombe Distilling Company.

'It's already been an extremely busy year for us, launching our new Gin School in Salcombe where the curious gin lover can develop and distil their very own bottle of gin.'

'Plus the distillery bar overlooking the estuary is proving hugely popular with locals and tourists in the area. We are also busy sampling our delicious Gin at many food and drink festivals and events across the country.'

We know what we're ordering on pay day. Thankfully the Devon-based company has an online shop

Ireland is mad for gin at the moment, as we can clearly see from the amount of gin events and festivals lined up this summer.

The first Ranelagh Gin Festival was such a smash success last month that they're brining it back for round two.

If you're feeling like a G&T on June 1, you can head to the second rendition of Ranelagh Gin Festival

As well as being located in one of Dublin's most pleasant areas, the G&Ts at this festival are far from overpriced, at a very reasonable €6.00.

Hosted by The Hill pub, there are a number of delicious concoctions to try.

You can check out the event details here, and we'll see you there, vat of gin in hand.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for 1.14-litre bottles of Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin.

The recall has been put in place after if was found that the gin had almost twice the amount of alcohol as stated on the label.

A quality assurance team found that the gin’s alcohol content was 77 per cent, instead of the usual 40 per cent.

'This product is not safe for consumption,' reads the recall statement.

This is the second time this year that Canada has had to recall an alcoholic beverage because the alcohol content was too high.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the gin so far

Love gin?

Well apparently, so does the rest of the country, because there are a number of gin festivals being held on the Emerald Isle this summer.

Here's a low down of all the best ones we have found:

1. Irish Gin & Tonic Festival

The Irish Gin & Tonic Festival is returning to Ireland this summer.

Running from June 25 to July 1, the nationwide celebration of some of Ireland’s best gin is back.

Any licensed bar, restaurant or hotel in Ireland can get involved by showcasing one of the many festival Irish gins served with a tonic of their choice for the week of the festival, and registration for the festival is free, so encourage your favourite bar to get involved.

2. Ginfusion

Ginfusion is coming to Dublin, and will be residing at the Bernard Shaw.

Celebrating and showcasing a host of different ways to enjoy the versatile beverage, the event will run across four days and nights on the June bank holiday weekend.

And best of all? Admission is FREE.

3. The Burren Slow Food Festival

So we all love gin, but we also have a penchant for cheese, and this festival brings the two together.

Taking place on May 12 to May 14, the festival promises to bring together food producers, chefs and writers for a weekend of talks, demonstrations and workshops.

4. Ranelagh Gin Fest

If you have a hankering for gin ASAP and can't wait until summer, then the Ranelagh Gin Fest, on April 28 to May 1 could be for you.

As well as being located in one of Dublin's most pleasant areas, the G&Ts at this festival are far from overpriced, at a very reasonable €6.00.

The world has become obsessed with gin, and rightly so.

The refreshing and versatile beverage can be dressed up with fancy cordials and fruits, or enjoyed as it is with a light tonic, and because of the delicious amount of variety available, there is no better way to show off the drink than with a gin festival.

If you're feeling like a G&T next week, you can head to the Ranelagh Gin Festival

We're particularly loving the sound of the Mi-mi, because what better partner is there for gin than a splash of elderflower.

Make sure you nook a table in advance to avoid disappointment.

Oh, and while we have you; don't forget to have your say in the inaugural SHEmazing Awards this May! It's time to vote, and you can do it right here!
