gin

Is it just me, or have people been going absolutely bonkers for gin this year?

Everywhere I turn, there seems to be yet another gin-scented (or filled) product… and I want them all.

Last month, we met the gin advent calendar, and I didn't think it could get any better, to be honest.

WELL, boy was I wrong, as I have since discovered gin-filled Christmas crackers… to make that family dinner a little bit more joyful.

The wonderful people at Master of Malt are currently selling a pack of six wonderful Christmas crackers FILLED with gin… for the pretty reasonable price of €47.56.

Small price to pay for happiness, in my opinion…

Today is a great day, because today I discovered gin-filled baubles to hang on the Christmas tree.

We are not kidding people… this is real!

The lovely people of Pickerings Gin have released a very special range of festive decorations, in the form of booze filled baubles.

For €30, you get 6 bright-coloured Christmas tree decorations – filled with gin.

While they are currently out of stock we contacted the lovely folks at Pickerings and they said that they will "be releasing our second batch exclusively to our Ginfriends mailing list (sign up through our website)".

They also told us that Harvey Nichols hold limited stock, so fear not ladies.

Can I get an AMEN?

The run-up to Christmas just got a whole lot better now that there's a GIN advent calendar.

Usually, the good 'oul chocolate ones could do the job, but we all know that this time of year can be mega-stressful, so the boozy addition is a nice surprise.

The Ginvent calendar includes 24 various gins and they all sound super delish. From London Dry, to fruit infused, we can't wait to try each one.

Ginvent's website reads: "Each year, we select 24 Gins that provide a snapshot of the category’s depth, diversity and global reach.

"We scour countries in search of the very best, the most unusual, the most progressive and most of all – the most sublimely delicious gins."

It continues: "We also make an effort to showcase all types of producers, celebrating the artisanal, craft makers while providing a unique chance to compare them in context to some of the familiar, larger names.

"It’s a chance to really discover the very best the category has to offer and will challenge your preconceptions while it titillates your tastebuds."

OK, so we need this ASAP. If you fancy getting this as a present for your BFF (or, you know… yourself), just take a gander here

It'll be so worth it.

We all like the odd G&T on a night out, but now a 100-year-old woman has gone and said it's the key to her long and happy life!

Mabel Jackson from the UK (who is SO cute BTW) believes that having some gin every single day is her secret to staying young – and who are we to disagree?!

Now, Mabel doesn't just knock back one gin and tonic. Nope, she downs SIX in a day.

She told the Suffolk Gazette: "I have two at lunchtime, one at tea time with a biscuit and then three more during the evening while I do my knitting."

Routine is key, Mabel.

"I swear the gin keeps me young!" she added.

Now, before you go and knock back six G&Ts, Mabel is not a doctor and it's probably not advised you follow suit but hey, whatever keeps you young, right?!

The results of last week's gin and tonic festival are in and it turns out the best place in Ireland to enjoy your G&T is Davy Mac's bar in Waterford City.

Over 100 venues took part in Great Irish Beverages' nationwide search for the best gin and tonic which required each bar to design their own signature drink.

Davy Mac’s – which opened last Christmas – won the public vote with their Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin and Elderflower Fever Tree Tonic.  Wow!

The bar's gin of choice, Drumshanbo, is distilled by hand at The Shed Distillery in County Leitrim.

Not only is Drumshanbo Connaught's first gin, it's also only been on the market for eight weeks.

Since Davy Mac's serves 60 types of gin and is now officially the best place for a G&T in Ireland we think we could be tempted to Waterford.

There's only one thing better than brunch and that's bottomless brunch so you'll be pretty happy to hear that a new bottomless brunch is coming to Dublin which not only offers an open tab for wine and beer but also for gin.

Spanish Tapas bar No.5 Vinoteca on Merrion Court has announced that between 12.30pm and 5pm on Saturday July 2 diners can get four tapas and all the wine, beer, gin and gin-based cocktails they like for €50.

For an extra tenner restaurant-goers can expand their beverage options to include a wider cocktail menu and for €70 they can get unlimited champagne.

The catch?  The Bottomless Brunch sitting only last two hours so it's value depends on how many times you can make it to the bar in that timeframe.

The popular spot already boasts an extensive Spanish wine cellar, candlelit courtyard and a piano bar – all that coupled with Bottomless Brunch sounds like it could be worth checking out.

What if we told you there was an alcoholic beverage that can make you look younger? You wouldn't believe us, right?

Well, as it turns out there is!

A new gin has just hit the UK market via Warner Leisure Hotels. The gin apparently works by adding pure collagen to the alcohol "as well as a mix of anti-aging botanicals to help people look younger whilst having fun," reports Mashable

The new wonder drink is called 'Anti-aGIN' and it claims to have "revitalising qualities" which include "healing sun-damage, being rich in minerals, inhibiting scar formation and [smoothing] cellulite."

If it actually works, we think we'll be drinking gin for the rest of our lives. Now, who wants to buy a plane ticket to London?!

Unicorns are mythical creatures, yes?

Ok good, glad we cleared that up. As disappointing as it is for many of us to admit, there are no unicorns hopping on the Luas and there have never been any reports of such an event occurring.

However, gin is not a myth and it is real. However, a new gin variation has arrived that has made us reconsider everything we always thought we knew about mythical creatures and good ole gin.

Gin made from unicorns tears and bottled with mystical silver is now a legitimate beverage. Yes, you did read that correctly.

The very inventive (we would go so far as to say genius) alcohol aficinados at Firebox have managed to bottle the sorrow of every Harry Potter fan’s favourite equine and turn into the new cocktail. We imagine hipsters everywhere are celebrating, if that is still a cool thing to do.

Referred to as “magical mother's ruin" the concoction even contains real silver pieces, so no risk of any werewolves coming along to ruin your day then. It also has some blood orange in there.

Unfortunately, there is one down side to the beverage: it is not cruelty free.

Firebox says "many, many unicorns were harmed in the making of this beverage", and that "those frisky little buggers aren’t easy to snag".

The gin will be launched on 25 September and if you’re feeling keen you can pre-order a bottle on the Firebox website for €55.
