It has long been said that blondes have more fun than their dark haired companions but as Michelle Keegan proved at Thursday’s Choose Love ball, blonde simply does not work on everyone.

Many of the world’s best known women have given in to the temptations of the bleach bottle but as the likes of Victoria Beckham and Angelina Jolie have proved, sometimes it is best to have your fun and then quickly retreat back to the dark side.

Here are some of our favourite stars who learned hard and fast that blonde just wasn’t for them.

Anne Hathaway: The Alice in Wonderland star's beautiful bone structure means she can work it long and she can work it short but no amount of jawline perfection would enable Anne to pull off blonde.

Kim Kardashian: With their Armenian skin tones the Kardashian girls were born to be brunette, but the hasn't stopped Kim for bleaching her hair.  Last year the reality star shocked everyone when she stepped out with peroxide blonde locks but thankfully she has spent most of her time since with more natural looking tones.

Jessica Biel: Justin Timberlake's BAE gave blonde a go back in 2008 but quickly retreated back to her brunette locks.  Since then she has dabbled safely with blonde highlights to create variation without taking the look to the extreme.

Victoria Beckham: Posh Spice might be a major style icon these days but it's unlikely she would have ever reached that status if she had held onto her bright blonde bob.

Angelina Jolie: Today Angelina is one of the most consistently stylish stars on the red carpet, but back in the late 90's the actress did play around with a much fairer look.  The star previously revealed to a German magazine that she was actually dark blonde as a child but her mother began dying her hair dark when she was around four years old.

Jennifer Love Hewitt: I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt had a seriously dodgy blonde experience back in 2014 when she debuted honey toned hues which darkened towards the end of her hair.  Thankfully the star has since realised her mistake and has transitioned back to being a full time brunette.

Tulisa: Troubled singer Tulisa has had some major style-based highs and lows but her 2012 blonde experience was most definitely among the lows.  The star's yellow locks brought her look right into the tacky zone she has since tried hard to avoid.

Jessica Alba: Over the years the hair of actress and model Jessica Alba has gone through a series of brunette to blonde experiments including all over blonde with bangs in 2005, rooty blonde in 2012 and now back to brown for 2016.

Keira Knightley: Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightly tried blonde in 2006 but quickly went back to her brunette roots.  Since then the star has kept in line with her natural shade and has changed her look by cut rather than colour.

Ariana Grande has been rocking a similar style for AGES now. High half ponytail with loads of volume?

Yup… that'll be Ms Grande alright.

However, the 23-year-old songstress has finally taken the plunge – opting for a cut and colour that is totally GORGEOUS on her.

Hinting at the revamp with a black-and-white full-lenght selfie yesterday, Ariana has now given fans a proper glimpse of her new do.

Rocking a darker, deep brunette hue, the Florida-born star showed off a fab fringe which totally freshened-up her appearance.

And while most fans were gushing over those bangs, it seems that some online observers weren't quite so happy… because, they claim, she's only copying rival popstar Selena Gomez's look.

Selena, 24, debuted her fringe back in June – and we have to admit that Ms Grande's revamped tresses are remarkably similar.

Still, one Instagram user offered: "Why is every selenator hating Ariana bc of her hair, Selena and Ariana are friends…"

Yup – it's just about hottest hair look of 2016… indeed this video of one young woman's super-long, Rapunzel-like dye-job has is HYPNOTIC

And when it comes to the rainbow-hair, there’s good news and bad: the good all those gorgeous colourful hues aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

New hair color xD

The bad? Well, as anyone who's dabbled in the trend will know, maintaining those purples, teals, reds, and greens fades FAST. Aka this is one look that quickly gets VERY expensive.

Luckily, inventive fans of the trend in the Philippines have come up with a way to DIY-dye for just a few euro: tissue paper.

As one beauty blogger explains, after putting bright strips of the paper into a saltwater solution and letting the dye bleed out, you can stain the ends of your hair by dipping them in the mixture and letting them soak.

Hurrah!

Others wrap their hair in the saltwater-soaked tissue – much like your hairdresser would if you were going for a full head of highlights.

Of course, it’s unlikely that the colour will actually last very long BUT for a quick ‘n’ easy weekend dye-job for a night out – this is pretty perfect.

If there is only one woman who knows a seriously good hair flick – it is most certainly Ms Beyonce Knowles.

From killer curls, to long sleek locks, ponytails, plaits, and chic updos, the superstar singer can work pretty much any look with a whole load of celebrated Queen Bey attitude.

And now a video has emerged from her current Formation tour that has us – and much of the internet – totally transfixed.

About to get in hair formation… #beyoncebraids

A video posted by Connor Castle (@concastle) on

Yes, at a recent concert in Dusseldorf, the 34-year-old mother-of-one sports a SWOON Rapunzel-like, super-long braid which was secured high on the head.

More significantly, Beyonce can be seen in the video whipping the braid around from one shoulder to the next – a move with has #girlboss written all over it.

And suffice to say that here at SHEmazing we’re pretty transfixed.

Posted by Mrs Carter uber-fan Connor Castle, who attended the Dusseldorf concert recently, his Instagram profile is wonderfully dotted with all things Beyonce.

Time and time again, the internet produces things that make us question EVERYTHING.

First there was THAT dress, then there was that brain destroying jacket, but now a new sorcery is upon us.

Colour-changing hair has become the latest in a stream of magical things with no real explanation.

Yesterday, a Reddit user Achoo_Gesundheit racked up almost three million views in 21-hours on a video of her hair.

Prepare to be totally mesmerised…

WHAT THE HELL?

At first it seems as though this girl is a brunette, but after a quick hair flip she reveals what appears to be a full head of platinum blonde hair.

This hair style is officially known as ‘top deck’ hair… yes like the Cadbury chocolate bar.

You know the one…

Remember being a kid and wishing you could have pretty pink hair?  Well it seems now really is the time to do it as yet another high profile star has taken the plunge and gone pink.

Maleficent star Elle Fanning has joined the likes of Ellie Goulding, Cara Delevingne and Rihanna by injecting a bit of pastel perfection into her ‘do and it is quite possibly her best look yet.

The American actress took to Instagram last night to reveal her new look with a selfie captioned: “Dusty rose hair.”

While multi-coloured hair, tattoos and piercings are becoming increasingly mainstream, many people still feel such physical enhancements are inappropriate in the workplace.

But is it really right for a stranger to pre-judge your professional abilities because of the colour of your hair?

West Virginian nurse Mary Walls Penney felt compelled to answer this very question over the weekend when her rainbow coloured hair left a cashier wondering how she could possibly be allowed work in a medical environment.

In a Facebook post which has since been shared over 100,000 times, the young mother explained how her hair caught the attention of a store worker while she was out getting groceries.

She wrote: "While checking out, the cashier, looked at my name tag and said, 'So what do you do there?' I replied, 'I'm a nurse.'"

"She continued, 'I'm surprised they let you work there like that.  What do your patients think about your hair?'"

"She then proceeded to ask the elderly lady that was in line behind me, 'What do you think about her hair?'"
The kind older lady said, 'Nothing against you honey, it's just not for me.'"

"Then the cashier continued to comment that they didn't allow that sort of thing even when she worked fast food and that she was shocked that a nursing facility would allow that."

After setting up the context for her argument, Mary went on to explain how her physical appearance has never interfered with her ability to perform at work.

She said: "I can't recall a time that my hair colour has prevented me from providing life saving treatment to one of my patients."

"My tattoos have never kept them from holding my hand and as they lay frightened and crying because Alzheimer's has stolen their mind."

"My multiple ear piercings have never interfered with me hearing them reminisce about their better days or listening to them as they express their last wishes."

"My tongue piercing has never kept me from speaking words of encouragement to a newly diagnosed patient or from comforting a family that is grieving."

"So, please explain to me how my appearance, while being paired with my cheerful disposition, servant's heart, and smiling face, has made me unfit to provide nursing care and unable to do my job!"

Mary's emotive post has received a positive reaction online with some Facebook users saying they would love to have her as their nurse, while others shared their own experiences of having strikingly coloured hair.

At this stage Harry Styles is almost as famous for his dark curly hair as he is for his place in One Direction, so naturally when a picture of him without his luscious locks finally emerged people were a little bit upset.

The singer’s sister Gemma took to Snapchat to reveal his new ‘do in a picture that shows a short-haired Harry looking at his star-patterned shirt.

The image is captioned: “Independence Day shirt….? No…?  Did I…?”

But of course once the One D fans caught sight of Harry’s hair (or lack thereof) they lost all interest in his shirt and took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the star’s famous curls.

According to the Metro, Harry cut off his hair for his role in the movie Dunkirk two months ago.

He has donated the hair to The Little Princess Trust – a charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their own due to cancer treatment.

Since Harry's hair has gone to such an important cause we're hopeful the One Directioners will find a way to forgive him…eventually.

Actress Ruby Rose is well-known for her edgy look and Bieber-esque haircut but – just like the rest of us – pre-2009 the actress looked a whole lot different.

A recent throwback snap revealed that the Orange Is The New Black star used to have long sleek hair with a full fringe and, although it is quite the transformation, Ruby was still well able to pull off the look.

Seven years ago the Australian model made the brave decision to shave it all off and it seems – apart from a brief experiment with fair extensions in 2012 – she hasn’t looked back since.

She’s the stunning model of the moment who wowed in THAT dress and faux bangs at this year’s Cannes festival – not to mention party of the world's biggest #girlsquad.

But Bella Hadid has now turned her back on her trademark dark tresses – opting for a quirky mix of blonde and bubblegum pink instead.

And we reckon that the result makes her look rather more like her big sis, Gigi.

Posting a picture of her drastically different locks to Instagram, the 19-year-old LA-native revealed that she is currently in London.

Today in London @sammcknight1 @thevalgarland Two brilliant minds! Love u both!

And yup – this is definitely her most extreme look to date: platinum blonde strands complete with a bubblegum pink ombré fade.

She has also opted to leave a generous root of natural brunette at the top of her hair.

We imagine that Bella’s head-turning new look is for a shoot – so expect to see a return on her more natural hue soon.

Ladies, our prayers have finally been answered – wine has officially been deemed good for your hair.  YAY!

According to Marie Claire, the man responsible for Deeta Von Teese’s luscious locks – celebrity stylist John Blaine – has announced that red wine is so good for your hair he’s made a whole hair care range full of it.

But before you start downing bottles of the red stuff, it might be worth knowing that it’s actually a wine extract which needs to be applied directly to the hair that has hair-enhancing properties.

So unfortunately drinking glass after glass of Merlot cannot be justified with the excuse “it’s good for my hair” just yet.  Awh!

John’s Vine de la Vie range – which includes shampoo, conditioner, styling elixir and serum – uses the polyphenols from red grapes to boost the recovery of damaged hair.

Polyphenols are found in red wine and have been shown to treat a host of conditions including inflammation, cancer and now damaged hair.

So while we wouldn't advise washing your hair in wine just yet, at least you'll have some beauty news to share over your next glass of vino.
