Halloween

Airbnb is well known for its quirky residential offerings, but this Halloween the famed homestay network is running one seriously scary competition.

The site has announced that a stay at Bran Castle in Romania – aka Dracula’s Castle – will be up for grabs for the night of October 31.

Two brave individuals will be able to call the misty mountain-top manor home thanks to host Dacre Stoker – that’s Bram Stoker’s great grandnephew – who will guide his guests through “lamp-lit corridors, creepy nooks, and squeaky staircases”.

The medieval fortress boasts 57 rooms, tower lookouts and “deep dark crypts” which can be explored before the sun sets.

Once darkness falls, Transylvanian castle-life hits peak creepiness with “unexpected guests” appearing, a “blood-enriching” Dracula inspired meal being served, and beds being offered in the form of velvet-trimmed coffins in the Count’s crypt.

To enter the competition, thrill-seekers are asked to show their “vampiric wit” in response to the following question: “What would you say to the Count if you were to come face-to-fang with him in his own castle?”

The winners will be flown to Transylvania courtesy of Airbnb and will stay at the castle free of charge.

Enter if you dare

She might be best known for her teenage roles in A Cinderella Story and Lizzie McGuire, but Hilary Duff actually landed her first major movie role way back in 1998.

The actress took to Instagram last night to share a nostalgia inducing throwback of herself dressed as Wendy from Casper Meets Wendy alongside a pic of Wendy in her grown up form.

The 29-year-old mother of one captioned the post: “Well just in time for Halloween @snapchat gave me this little treat of a filter #caspermeetswendy #wendythegoodwitch #20yearsago?! #ahhhhhhh.”

Fans are loving the 90s feels with social media users coming out in droves to comment on the share.

One fan wrote: “I didn’t know I wanted this until right now”.  While another said: “20 years ago???!!! That’s still one of my favourite movies!  I use to want to be just like Wendy (sic).”

Almost two decades on, Hilary is the spit of her childhood self!

Kicking off at 17.30, this parade is the perfect way to begin your Halloween festivities.

Oh, and did we mention it's free?!

If you’re all over all things 1920s-related, then we have the PERFECT Halloween event for you this month.

Taking place at the Irish Museum of Modern Art on Saturday October 29, Prohibition: the Beautiful and the Damned will take you on a journey through the underworld of the 1920s.

From their gothic glamour to their cryptic curiosities, this event, in conjunction with the Bram Stoker Festival, captures the flavour of the decade while paying homage to Halloween.

Inject a little ghoulish sophistication into this year’s festivities by donning a flapper dress, downing a gin punch and dancing your soul out to a mix of vintage and electro swing DJs.

And at just €34 to travel back in time, we’re fully on board with this one.

With Halloween quickly approaching, people everywhere are already foaming at the mouth at the thought of all the sweets they’ll be indulging in on October 31st.

However, with eyes much bigger than our bellies, we're sure to be binging on Halloween choccies for weeks!

Now, while we’re all for allowing yourself a treat now and then, moderation is key because all that junk can take a long time to work off.

We’ve broken down how many jumping jacks you’d have to do to burn off all those added calories in hopes of making Halloween as sin-free as possible.

The moment October rolls around, everyone goes into Halloween-overdrive.

And while family and friends might be super busy creating totally on-trend costumes –  did someone say Harley Quinn? – there are more than a few of us who actually love to go traditional at this time of the year.

And that is why we’re all about Wicklow this month.

From soaking up autumn colours on afternoon walks in Wicklow’s picturesque woodlands to enjoying wildlife spotting and star gazing under the autumn skies at the Wicklow Mountains National Park, this is the kind of Autumnal celebration we can really get on board with.

And when the time comes to properly embrace Halloween? Why not uncover local folk laws and spooky tales as you explore Wicklow Gaol or hop aboard the Halloween Train for a trip through Rathwood’s creepy forest?

With countless events and activities kicking off mid-month and running until the spookiest night of the year draws to a close, Wicklow is definitely the place to be this month.

Catch y’all there.

They might be a good idea in theory, but some Halloween costumes are a lot more effort than they are worth.

And while dressing as an animal may seem relatively easy, it’s often an outfit’s finishing touches which take it from funny enough to straight up brilliant.

Because of this, we were delighted to come across a pair of convincing looking horse hooves from an Etsy shop called Chaos Costumes.

Paired with a hairy onesie and a convincing looking horse mask, we think these hooves would help give any equine costume the added edge – plus can you imagine how funny they’d look on the dancefloor?

Thank you Internet!
