A poll taken by AA Travel Insurance has found that Irish tourists are more likely to be robbed in Spain than any other tourist destination.

A third of people who had been robbed, were robbed while holidaying in Spain. Pickpocketing is the most common crime, but tourists have also had necklaces ripped from their necks and item stolen from their handbags.

Some more scary stories surfaced  aswell – one couple had their tyre slashed when they stopped to get petrol. They then drove on for 2km before realising and the thieves posed as good Samaritans before robbing them.

The moral of the story? Be conscious of your surroundings, and don’t bring anything too important with you. Especially if you’re going to Spain.

If you wondered if you and your beau, were the only ones who couldn’t seem to go on holidays together without having a few tiffs, then don’t worry. You’re not.

A survey has found that two thirds of couples argue on holidays, and the reasons are as follows:

  • More women than men get annoyed by their partner overspending
  • Men get irritated by women taking too long to get ready
  • Ogling other people on the beach (both sexes are guilty of this)
  • Complaints about forgetting something important
  • Talking too much

So the next time you find yourself engaged in a spat over one of these things, take a deep breath and remember, you are not alone. And maybe stop havin’ a gawk at other people on the beach!

Whether you are heading to beautiful Bali, staying in Ireland or hitting the beaches of San Diego you can have the holiday of a lifetime.

Just remember these tips:

Know what you want from it
No matter where you go there will always be somewhere or something you want to do there that you have never done before, like sky diving, surfing or just wanting to stay away from the tourist track. Write a list of what you want to do on the holiday and just do it – the crazier the better.

Book a hotel
Make sure you have somewhere to stay when you get there. While backpacking across Asia will mean you won’t be able to book all your accommodation, booking a room for when you land for the first few days will give you a chance to recover and get to know your surrounding area.

Don’t have an overloaded itinerary
While you might only have a limited amount of time to go exploring don’t overload your time with activities – you will end up only experiencing half of what you go to see. Choose a couple of things that you really want to see and do – an overloaded itinerary will leave you tired and stressed out.

Bring people you like
This goes without saying – how can you possibly enjoy your trip if you are stuck with someone you really can’t stand. Go with someone who is on the same wavelength as you and who wants to do the same things – you’ll have more fun this way!

Picking out the perfect bikini is no easy task. Here are some things you should take into consideration when choosing yours:

1. Skin tone
If you have paler skin, remember that colour such as white may not look as striking on you as they would on someone with a tan. Go for a cream or ivory colour to give yourself a lift.

2. Shape
Highlight your best assets. If you have larger breasts, you may want more support and so an underwire bikini top may benefit you more than a flimsy string top. Likewise, if you do not like your bottom half, you can always find a cute bikini with a little skirt to give yourself more beach confidence.

3. Too late
Don’t leave it too late in the season to buy your bikini as all of the good ones may be gone. Get in there early and have your pick from all the lovely new arrivals.

4. Don’t spend a fortune
There is absolutely no need to go crazy and drop lots of money on a bikini. Think about it. We live in Ireland, this will be worn 1-2 weeks a year MAX. There are plenty of stunning bikini choices out there without having to break the bank.

5. Accessorise!
It’s not all just about the bikini y’know! You can jazz up a plain coloured bikini with a cute hat, sunglasses and even some elegant body jewellery.

With the Bank Holiday weekend now upon us, many people will be hitting the roads for a quick trip away.

Here’s how to have fun and stay safe on the roads:

Take a break
We know Ireland is not that big and it shouldn’t take more than 4 hours to get you from one end to another, but make sure you take a break half way. The motorways can get pretty boring and you need to keep your concentration up when driving.

Bring food
Bring food, lots of food. There is something quite adventurous about pulling into a pit stop on the side of the road and having a picnic – well, we think so…

Don’t be the only driver
Seriously, being the only one who can drive can be quite annoying. Make sure at least one other passenger has both a licence and insurance so you can swop and change.

Bring a map
We all have GPS on our phones but what happens when the battery dies? Never thought about that, did you?!

Now go have some fun!

If you are a fan of beer you will definitely appreciate these breweries. So, instead of travelling city to city, why not travel brewery to brewery – any excuse for a drink, really!

Hit these places if you do fancy an alternative holiday:

Cigar City Brewing, Tampa, Florida
This place has become a major attraction for tourists and is a perfect place to vivist even if you aren’t a fan of beer.

Brouwerij Alvinne, De Proefloft and Beershop, Moen, Belgium
Here you will get to drink beer straight from casks and you will be given info on each beer that you sample  – although you may not really care…

Port Brewing/ The Lost Abbey, San Marcos, California
The Lost Abbey and Port Brewing Company are co-located which means you get to experience two breweries in one.

Cantillon Brewery, Brussels, Belgium
This is a family brewery where Lambic, Gueuze, Faro and Kriek beer are made. The brewery takes you back in time as it still uses the same brewing process from the 1900s.

Heineken, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Here visitors are taken on a ride where they can experience what it feels like to become a beer… hmmm, interesting.

Guinness Storehouse, Co. Dublin
Start your journey off here!

Thought cruises were just for old people? Well, it’s time to think again! Here are our six best reasons why we are considering a cruise for our next holiday!

You only have to unpack once
Seriously, unpacking and repacking has got to be the most annoy thing about travelling.

You will always have a view of the sea
People on land pay top dollar for this

The amount of places you’ll see
You will experience more cities in a week then you would travelling around by plane.

Money
You don’t have to worry about carrying around a load of money – most things, including food,  are paid for before you even get on the ship.

Meet other people
We admit this can be done on any holiday, but this way you won’t lose them as they move on to other places – you’re all stuck together until you go to land.

Comfy bed
The best thing about a cruise is the fact that while you are travelling you have a comfy bed to lie down on – you won’t get this on an aeroplane!

The activities
Depending on which cruise you pick, there can be so many activities on board that you won’t have to leave.

Thailand is an extremely popular place for Irish 20-somethings to let loose and go crazy! Apart from the plane tickets, obviously, it makes for a pretty cheap long holiday.

It is famed for its Full Moon parties, elephant riding and tubing but there is so much more that the country has to offer that you would be mad not to pop these on your itinerary.

Night market
Take a night off from the partying scene and spend the evening wandering around the night markets. You pick up some pretty awesome clothes and taste foods you would never have tasted before.

Get a tuk-tuk
You have probably heard of these as a means of transport in Thailand. While they may have a cute sounding name, they are far from cute reaching up to 60mph… eek! An experience you can’t miss.

Long tail boat
Apart from the fact that the long tail boat taxis are the best way to get to some of Thailand’s most secluded beaches, they are pretty spectacular.

Get a massage
A Thai massage is a must when you are visiting the country. They are extremely cheap so why not treat yourself to one every day!

Heading to New York for the weekend? You can fit in a lot of the sights and still manage to have time for shopping!

Day 1
You are probably still slightly jet lagged, so take it easy today. To save money, hop on a boat to Staten Island which will pass by the Statute of Liberty. While you won’t actually get up close and personal with the big green lady, you will still experience the wow factor and get to have a sit down! Next, head to one of New York’s most iconic sights – Central Park. Grab a coffee and wander around taking it all in. 9/11 Memorial should be in your list next.

Day 2
Get up early and head to the Empire State Building. Even if you don’t like heights this is a must-see. Times Square should be next although you need to see this after dark as well so head back here after you have done some shopping. Yes, finally we mention shopping! Spend the day blowing your budget before catching a show on Broadway.

Day 3
It’s your last day so you better make it a good one. Head to the Rockefeller Centre and get in some more shopping. You don’t want to be hungover on your flight tomorrow, so skip the pub and instead opt for a baseball, football or basketball match.

You’ll probably need another holiday after this weekend though!
