A cinema has cancelled screenings of Disney's Beauty and the Beast because it includes a gay character.

The drive-in theatre has rejected the film, citing it's staunch Christian beliefs for the decision.

The Henagar Drive-In Theatre in Alabama said that it will only show films that are family oriented, so that viewers will not have to bear witness to things such as homosexuality and foul language.

"When companies continually force their views on us we need to take a stand" read a statement on the theatre's Facebook page, which has since been deleted.

"If we cannot take our 11 year old granddaughter and 8 year old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it."

“If I can't sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it."

“I know there will be some that do not agree with this decision. That's fine.

“We are first and foremost Christians. We will not compromise on what the Bible teaches.”

The statement came after the film's director Bill Condon made a revelation about the sexuality of the character LeFou, played by Josh Gad.

"LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston," Condon told Attitude.

"He's confused about what he wants. It's somebody who's just realising that he has these feelings."

Twitter is pretty outraged by the decision, calling it out as homophobic.

"What year is it in Alabama?" said one.

"Shame on you Henagar Drive-In Theatre," said another.

With 188,000 likes and 85,000 retweets in just three days, it's fair to say the Twitosphere is pretty damn impressed with the T-shirt a 17-year-old lad from Houston Texas rocked in recent days.

Aaron, who has been the victim of homophobia in the past, decided to snap up a garment which suggested people should bite their tongue instead of verbalising their prejudices.

"Why be racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic when you could just be quiet?" read the slogan on the now uber-popular T-shirt.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Aaron explained: "I have been a victim of bulling because I am gay and, yes, I have overcome all of those obstacles in my life, and when I saw the shirt I was amazed because of the message the shirt says."

"‘Just be quiet,’ as in, ‘If you have nothing nice to say, just don’t say it at all.” he added.

"Where can I get this shirt, I need it," wrote one Twitter user while another added: "This is everything."

"I need this top to shut my sister in law up with her homophobic comments," remarked another Twitter user,

Aaron, we salute you.

Remember the last time you used an ice cream to declare your sexual preference?

Yeah us neither, but that's because we (like millions others) don't consider our love of Magnums indicative of anything other than, well, our love of Magnums.

British television presenter, Richard Hammond, on the other hand, is of the opinion that a grá for the dessert is more likely if you happen to be gay.

We know – our heads imploded too.

And, unsurprisingly, Twitter users have had had a field day over this, and wasted no time sharing their thoughts on the television presenter's bizarre remarks.

If the Loose Women team had set out to offend their viewers, they did a pretty good job of it yesterday.

Using their Facebook page to initiate debate on a variety of topics, the team yesterday decided to dedicate one post to 'gay best friends'.

And suffice to say, their approach to the matter did not go down well with thousands of their followers.

"Should every woman have a gay best friend?" they asked. "A new study has found that becoming friends with gay men may be a key part of women's ‘mating strategies’ by making them less threatening to other women – and more appealing to straight men."

"Do you think every woman should have a male gay best friend? Why do you think a friendship between a woman and a gay man is so special?" they asked in a move which resulted in serious backlash online.

Accusing the team of reducing gay men to little more than accessories, one Facebook user wrote: "Always love a good bit of casual homophobia from you lot."

"Belive it or not we are people and not just an "accessory", he continued. "How would you like it if it was "a menopausal best friend'? Absolute jokes."

"Please delete this question. This is disgusting and should not be endorsed by a national TV programme," added another.

"You should be ashamed of yourself. I'm no woman's 'gay best friend'. My sexuality has nothing to do with my freindship with anyone," he finished. (sic)

"Do you think every woman should have a male best friend?" Were they for REAL with that one?

X Factor hopefuls Bratavio have been hit with death threats and homophobic abuse as they progress to the talent competition’s live shows.

Bradley Hunt and Ottavio Columbro enraged fans of the long-running programme when they were named among Louis Walsh’s final three acts for The X Factor’s group category.

According to The Mirror, viewers believe the singers’ ability to progress to the live shows demonstrates how The X Factor has lost credibility in recent years.

The lads – who have received much recognition for their colourful costumes and love/hate relationship – have been attacked online by angry trolls from both the gay and straight communities.

Sharing a picture of Bratavio, one Twitter user wrote: “What the fook is this all about…and we ask our self…why do gay people get beat up…theses 2 make me look straight and I am a drag queen…get them off my TV (sic).”

While others have encouraged the band to “kill themselves”.

As well as fans of the duo jumping to their defence, Bradley and Ottavio have replied to some of their haters.

Acknowledging Louis Walsh’s role in the controversy, Ottavio tweeted: “Calm down, we don’t make the decisions and we have dreams too.”

A new film about a retired gay couple has been given an R rating by a US classification body, even though it has no sex, violence or drug taking in any of its scenes.

This classification means that children under 17-years-old must be accompanied by an adult if they want to see the film, Love Is Strange.

This is very weird, especially when you compare it to other R-rated films like Monster or Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, both of which contain quite a bit of sex, violence and drug abuse.

Could homophobia be to blame for such an innocent film getting rated like this? In Ireland, the film was rated 15A, and Canada gave it PG rating, so what could have made such a difference between the different countries?

Check out the trailer for yourself to see if you think it was deserved or not!
