An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a seriously injured man on Travers Street, Cork in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

The 49-year-old was found at approximately 2.40am with serious head injuries. 

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where his wounds are described as serious.

There are no further details at this tme. 

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been on Travers St. around that time to contact them in Anglesea St on 021 4522000.

One man has been killed following an explosion at a house in Co Louth overnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Termonfeckin Road in Drogheda, shortly after midnight.

Gardaí believe the explosion, which resulted in a fire at the house in Beaulieu, was caused by a faulty boiler.

The incident is being treated as a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected.

Two others are being treated for burn injuries at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

231 people have died and a further 275 are said to be injured after a truck bomb exploded in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu.

In what is understood to be the deadliest attack ever witnessed in the African nation, a bomb detonated outside the Safari Hotel at the K5 intersection – an area home to government buildings as well as a number of restaurants and kiosks.

According to reports, a separate blast struck the Medina district just two hours later.

Officials fear the death toll will continue to rise, with many civilians and volunteers still missing.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed has declared three days of mourning and is urging people to donate blood for the wounded victims. "I am appealing all Somali people to come forward and donate," he said.

Somalia's government blamed the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab extremist group for the attack, though it has yet to claim the responsibility.

Marilyn Manson has been rushed to hospital in New York City following an incident which saw a massive prop fall onto him during a performance.

The singer was about an hour into his set at Hammerstein Ballroom when the stage prop, which appeared to be made from heavy metal, toppled over.

According to the BBC, an eyewitness revealed that Marilyn laid on stage for up to 15 minutes before medical personnel carried him out on a stretcher.

The horrific moment was caught on video and uploaded to Twitter. In the footage we see members of the stage crew rush to help the injured performer.

A representative told Rolling Stone magazine: "Manson suffered an injury towards the end of his incredible NYC show. He is being treated at a local hospital."

His condition is not currently known.

Marilyn was just three dates into his current tour and was due to perform in Boston on Monday night – though it is not yet known when the tour will resume.

An Irish family have been injured in yesterday's Barcelona terrorist attack. 

The family of four were on holidays in the popular tourist area of Spain. 

The parents of the family are originally from the Philippines but have Irish citizenship, as do their children. 

A spokesperson for the Filipino Embassy in Madrid confirmed the injuries, according to The Journal. 

It is reported that some of the family, including one of the young children, were seriously injured in the attack.  

The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

'Barcelona has a long history of hospitality and has over the years received so many people from around the world,' said President Michael D Higgins in a statement. 

'As President of Ireland I want to send the people of this great and welcoming city not only our sympathy but also the solidarity of the people of Ireland.'

A man has died after he was found with serious injuries in Swords, Co Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was found on North Street at approximately 3:05am. He was seen to by medical personnel, but was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased male remains at the scene which has been preserved for an examination by Gardaí.

The road has been closed from the junction of North Street and Seatown Road to North Street and the entrance to Carnegie Court Apartments.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Swords Garda Station on 01 6664700, the Garda Confidential Telephone line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Former Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has reportedly received hospital treatment for wrist injuries after an incident in a South African prison on Saturday.

According to the BBC, a spokesperson for the prison service described the runner’s injuries as “minor” and confirmed Pistorius was sent back to prison shortly after receiving treatment.

The Irish Mirror has reported that Pistorius denied trying to kill himself before claiming his injuries had been caused by a fall out of bed.

The sprinter's brother Carl has echoed this claim by tweeting: “Jenna and I have just seen Oscar and he is doing well given the circumstances.  He was in good spirit.”

“I know there are reports saying that he had tried to injure himself – they are completely untrue and sensational…He slipped in his cell and injured himself, nothing serious.”

However a source told City Press that blades were found in Pistorius’ cell when it was searched after the incident.

The Paralympic gold medallist received a six year prison sentence this July for the 2012 killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians matriarch Kris Jenner was reportedly involved in a car accident near her home yesterday afternoon.

According to TMZ, the famous momager has possibly been left with a broken wrist after a Prius van ran a red light before crashing into Kris’ white Rolls-Royce.

The front of Kris’ week-old car was destroyed as a result of the collision.  She was treated at the scene by paramedics who were cautious about removing her from the car for fear of making her injury worse.

A source told E! News that the reality star is “shook up” after the incident, but Kris says that despite her hurting hand she is alright.

When a worried fan tweeted Kylie Jenner about the accident, the teen responded by writing: “I was not involved in the accident.  Everything’s ok.”

There has been some bad news from Stradbally after a man and woman’s tent caught fire at Electric Picnic in the early hours of the morning.

The fire started around 5am in the Pink Moon campsite where the pair was staying.

The couple are believed to have fallen asleep after lighting candles in their tent.

They were both taken to Portlaoise General Hospital for treatment before the woman was transferred to St James’ Hospital in Dublin.

Their injuries are believed not to be life-threatening.

We hope they both recover very soon!

Hundreds of terrified fans were crushed and almost 50 were injured following a crowd surge at a One Direction concert in Peru.

The band were forced to stop the concert at one point and begged to the crowd to calm down – even threatening to walk off stage –  but their plea fell on deaf ears.

Tents were used as emergency treatment centres at the venue, and a number of fans are reportedly still being treated in hospital.

An evacuation plan was even put in place by the fire service, as security struggled to get the crowd under control.

A video taken inside the stadium at the concert on Sunday shows singer Niall Horan saying to the crowd, “If you don’t want anyone to take us off the stage, make sure you stay back.”

Liam Payne earlier in the day posted a dramatic message as he struggled to understand just how many fans the band has.

He posted a picture of fans gathered outside the hotel, saying, “I will never understand, and you will never understand what this does to somebody …why? no one could deserve this.”
