Instagram

Body positivity has come along leaps and bounds in recent years, and Instagram is a complete hot bed of positive, feel good affirmations that remind us to love the skin we are in.

One body-pos poster is Hannah Foster, who has taken to the social media sharing site to give her followers a before and after snapshot like no other.

The image shows Hannah at two different weights, but says that she is now happier being heavier, and explains why.

A post shared by Hannah (@lavidahannah) on

'Transformations aren't always what they seem. Pic on the right is after losing almost 100 pounds in 2012,' she began, captioning the before and after shot.

'It was one of the first times I had ever allowed anyone to take a picture of me in a bikini (and only because it was my first time swimming in the ocean).'

'The girl on the left hated herself vastly more than the girl on the right, even though she weighed 30 pounds less than right-girl.'

A post shared by Hannah (@lavidahannah) on

'She was in a nasty relationship, living abroad and lonely, and despite losing weight STILL HATED HER BODY. Losing weight won't make you love yourself…' she explained.

'Pic on the right is after 25 years of realising that losing 5 pounds won't make me a better person, it won't make me like myself, and most importantly it won't make me happy.'

'I go to the gym, I eat healthy, but it's not for weight loss; it's because I only get one body and I want to use it as long as possible.'

A post shared by Hannah (@lavidahannah) on

'Eating 800 calories a day isn't taking care of your body, even if it makes you skinny. (Eating that little is part of what made gain weight, I was starving my body.)'.

We can totally get behind this message, because at the end of the day it really, really isn't what the scale says that matters.

Have you ever visited the Instagram mobile website for a quick snoop when your data is being oh-so slow when it comes to opening apps?

You may have felt restricted by the limited services available via the website, but that is now a thing of the past.

The new and improved mobile site allows users to save their phone storage by uploading directly from the web

So no storage space, no problem.

Unfortunately there’s still no posting from the desktop site, but this new development is a step in the right direction.

The only problem is that you cannot add a filter to the images added from mobile web, so if your Instagram has a theme, this might not be the most helpful of new developments.

However, Instagram has just surpassed the 700 million monthly user mark, so they must be doing something right.

'And yes that's a mini floatie flamingo drinks holder, never leaving home without it again.'

The bloggers have spoken, and if it's good enough for them…

There are always more than a few Instagram makeup trends doing the rounds online, but the latest one really takes the p***.

Teenage MUA Jake Warden has gained over 1.1million views on one particular makeup tutorial.

While the look he creates is pretty flawless, it's the use of his iPhone as a mixing palette for foundation that has people going crazy for the MUAs videos.

A post shared by Jake Warden (@jakewarden) on

We'd barely toss our phones in our bags without a cover, never mind pour foundation all over them, so this beauty tutorial trend is pretty baffling to us.

In two separate tutorials, he squirts foundation onto the back of his rose gold iPhone, which doesn't have a case on it, and mixes highlighter into it using the iPhone rather than the back of his hand to mix the products together.

We thought this might just be a random, teenage makeup trend that would pass by without notice, but now other MUAs are following suit.

A post shared by Kiki ♥️ (@spottedstyleblog) on

We shudder to think about the amount of germs that reside on the backs of our phones, so we seriously hope these MUAs are using a sterilisation wipe before dropping foundation oin their pricey smartphones.

Kids these days…

Alexis Ren has amassed over 8.8 million Instagram followers thanks to her tropical, bikini-clad lifestyle.

Showcasing her fit figure on the social media site has propelled her influencer and modelling career, and the perfectly filtered beach shots are envy-inducing.

A post shared by ALEXIS REN (@alexisren) on

Now, the Instagram super star has opened up about her body confidence issues, and admitted that despite being called perfect by her followers in every comment section, the model has struggled with a punishing regimen.

Taking to Twitter, Alexis admitted that she has previously pushed herself to the point of malnourishment through her work, and that this unhealthy state is apparent in her older posts.

She also stated that she previously struggled with a 'toxic state of mind' when it came to food and fitness.

'I've gone through a lot as far as health. I overworked myself to the point of malnourishment,' she tweeted.

'I was in a toxic state of mind, and I'm so grateful to be out of that f****** mindset.'

Thankfully, the Instagram model is not on the road to recovering from her toxic relationship with food, saying that she no longer uses exercise to punish herself, and is able to eat her meals without guilt.

Maintaining the 'perfect,' 'literally goals' bikini body is a ful time job, and Alexis previously put it down to keeping to a healthy lifestyle.

'I love to show off my body, and I feel like I earned it, because I work out every day. I’m really healthy, and that’s one of the things I pride myself on,' she told The Cut last year.

A post shared by ALEXIS REN (@alexisren) on

Alexis's recent admission that behind the scenes, things weren't so perfect, is a valuable reminder to us all that even the most aesthetically pleasing Instagram feed may not be as perfect as it seems.

Kudos to Alexis for pulling back the filtered veil and reminding all 8.8 million of her followers that health is far more important that the ultimate beach pose, and for having the courage to admit to her difficulties without shame.

A Dutch Ryanair pilot has been sharing some gorgeous snaps of her life as a professional globetrotter and they’re making us extremely jealous.

Two years ago, Michelle Gooris documented her first solo flight on Youtube.

The video has since ranked up almost two million views and the dutch beauty has earned herself over 20 thousand Instagram followers.

Speaking to The Mirror, Michelle admitted that she actually enjoys her job more than the holidays.

"People think from looking at my Instagram that I'm on holiday all time but it's not all about lying on beaches", she told The Mirror.

"Flying a passenger jet is hard work and takes a lot of concentration, after all, you have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders."

At just 19-years-old, Michelle entered into two years of training at CAE Aviation Academy and received her license upon completion.

Her grandfather was the one who suggested she apply for her aviation license. He had been a pilot and was keen to have Michelle follow in his footsteps.

Michelle told The Mirror she was grateful that her grandfather encouraged her to pursue a career in a typically male-dominated industry.

Flying makes me the happiest person on earth, especially when it is sunny at our destinations! Like here in Barcelona

A post shared by Michelle B737 Airline Pilot (@dutchpilotgirl) on

"It was once a man's world and although there are many female pilots today there are nowhere near enough.

"There needs to be more, in a manly environment we should show men that we can fly to.

"We can all achieve anything we want in life and I can't wait to see where else my job takes me."

Michelle’s Instagram feed is the perfect mix of work and play and to be honest, we’re thinking of making a career change.

Remember when sweet potatoes weren't really part of your diet?

Yes, us neither because the orange vegetable has been on the menu pretty much everywhere for the past two years.

And the reasons are obvious: on top of fact that they taste divine, sweet potatoes are a nutrition powerhouse.

They are an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, manganese, copper, vitamin B6, potassium and dietary fibre. We love them baked, stuffed, roasted or fried, basically in every way possible.

Since the Internet is all about #cleaneating and #foodporn at the same time, Instagram is the place to be if you are looking for inspiration on what to make with sweet potatoes.

Pancakes

Looks like a great lunch to bring to the office.

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Between My daughters birthday and Easter I indulged a little too much so off to a new start and will be sure to try and get in some evening runs this week. Today's lunch is sweet potato and zucchini pancakes over arugula with roasted chickpeas, tomatoes, avocado and olives topped with a little lemon juice, hemp seeds and gomasio. Have a great day!To make the sweet potato and zucchini pancakes grate half a medium zucchini in a bowl and place on thick layer of paper towels. Press out as much of the juice as possible through a strainer or with dry paper towels. Squeezing out all the juice prevents the pancakes from falling apart while cooking. Add zucchini back into the bowl and grate half a sweet potato. Add in 1 @handsomebrookfarm pasture raised egg or egg substitute equivalent, 2 chopped scallions and salt and pepper to taste and blend well. Add 1 to 3 Tbsp. @bobsredmill gluten free flour to help bind any excess juice. Heat 1 tbsp. @harvestbay extra virgin coconut oil on medium high heat. Add heaps of mixture to pan and shape into pancakes. Cook on both sides until golden and transfer to paper towels to remove any excess oil. Makes about 8 pancakes. Serve with Greek yogurt or applesauce!

We all love scrolling through our Instagram feeds, and sometimes a sponsored post catches our eye as we're creeping through.

Usually, the sponsored posts are promoting a local business or service, but other times the ad space is taken up with beauty products or online items for sale.

One Instagram fan called Luke was scrolling through his Insta feed when he spotted a 'buy now' ad from a company called Lux Style for one of those blackhead peel-off masks that have taken over the internet lately.

A post shared by LuxStyle International (@luxgroup) on

According to Cosmo, Luke saw the blackhead mask ad, which featured a '100 percent money back guarantee' slogan, but with no price visible.

Wondering how pricey the mask was, Luke clicked on the product and put in his address details when prompted, lulled into a sense of security as his bank details had not been requested.

A few weeks later, a packet of masks showed up at Luke's house, along with an invoice for the cost of the masks and shipping.

Luke, having not ordered the masks, flat out refused to pay, but was sent emails by the company insisting that he had ordered them.

There are dozens of forums and Facebook pages committed to discussing and exposing the fraudulent company, who have threatened to send debt collectors to the homes of those who refuse to pay for the unsolicited goods.

'I clicked on this advert to see the details of the product and the prices. A pop-up appeared asking me to register with them before they would show me their prices. I needed to give my e-mail address and my postal address which I did,' reads another fraud victim's account.

'When I found out how much the products cost I realised they were too expensive for me so I logged off their website.'

'I received a packet from this company which had enclosed 2 pieces of QUICKMAX which I did not order also enclosed was an invoice for the sum of £54.90. The payment instruction was that I had to pay this amount within 14 days to avoid late reminder fees.'

Another unsolicited customer had a similar experience, and is fighting an email battle to have the invoice erased.

'All I did was to check the cost of the product and left the website.'

'They sent me the product and have been sending continuous "avoid debt collection" case emails with invoices that gets "late payment fees" added on on top of the product cost. No number of emails and explanation helps,' reads a stressed out comment on the Lux Style International SCAM Facebook page.

The Better Business Bureau has also released a warning about the scam company.

'If you have received an unsolicited package or an invoice for products you did not order, under the Consumer Protection Act, you are not obligated to pay or return the package,' reads the statement.

So avoid those ads like the plague, you guys.

So, taking the perfect selfie can be overwhelming at the best of times.

After all, there’s a lot to consider – the lighting, what filter to use, is this my good side?

Well, according to a study conducted by Dr Anukka Lindell from La Trobe University, Melbourne, it’s all about the angles.

The professor, who specialises in cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience, looked at almost 2000 selfies from 200 participants on Instagram and the results were quite interesting.

She found that both both male and females preferred to pose with their left cheek facing the camera.

But why?

According to the Mail Online Dr Anukka said:  ‘’Selfies taken at an angle are more flattering than front on, as they show more angles, highlight cheekbones, and make the subject look slimmer.’’

She also claimed that left cheek poses made the subject appear more 'emotionally open and expressive'.

We have to admit, we never noticed before, but maybe Dr Anukka's got a point.

"Every day you have the chance to turn it all around. Take care of your body and mind, and it will take care of you back."
