A woman in the States, who successfully fended off a sex attacker during a jog, has taken to Instagram to encourage women to seek self-defence training should they ever find themselves in the same situation.

Kelly Herron stopped at a public restroom during a four-mile jog when she found herself confronted by a man who had been hiding in one of the bathroom stalls.

After struggling with her assailant on the bathroom floor, Kelly found herself using moves she had learned in a self-defence class before locking her attacker in the bathroom until police arrived at the scene.

My biggest running nightmare became reality- 4 miles into my long run Sunday afternoon, I stopped to use the restroom and was assaulted by a man hiding in a stall (that is my GPS in red lines). I fought for my life screaming("Not today, M**F**er!"), clawing his face, punching back, and desperately trying to escape his grip- never giving up. I was able to lock him in the bathroom until police arrived. Thankfully I just took a self-defense class offered at my work and utilized all of it. My face is stitched, my body is bruised, but my spirit is intact. #fightingchanceseattle #ballard #runnersafety #marathontraining #womensselfdefense #myballard #fightlikeagirl #fightback #dontbeavictim #nottodaymotherfucker #youcantbreakme #instarunners #garmin #garminvivosmarthr

Speaking on Good Morning America, the young woman recalled the moment she realised her life was in danger.

"As I was drying my hands I became aware that something was wrong," she explained. "It was a fight on the bathroom floor."

"I had learned at the self-defence class to put hard bones in soft fleshy places, so I just started beating the side of his head with the side of my hand," Kelly explained.

"All I could think was: ‘Not today, motherf*cker’. I was screaming. I was able to pull myself out through the front of the stall, because that door was jammed. I started to feel like I was going to lose consciousness." she continued.

"But then I got another surge of adrenaline, and I reached for the door and was able to get out."

Kelly took to Instagram to share two images of her attacker, Gary Matthew Steiner, while reminding him of her message, writing: "FIGHT LIKE A SAVAGE! I might pay your $750,000 bail just to let my running squad finish the job."

Relived Kelly made it out of the terrifying situation relatively unscathed, Instagram users offered support, with one writing: "You are a true hero, nice fighting . U kicked his ass."

"You absolute hero! Glad you're fine and he is locked up," wrote another while someone else added: "This makes me really motivated to get onto a self defence class! You are amazing!!"

Gary Steiner is reportedly facing charges of potential rape and assault.

When it comes to wedding prep chat, the bride's dress is obviously up there in the 'most talked about' section of any Whatsapp group discussion.

And while choosing the gown is, undoubtedly, a mammoth task for any bride-to-be, choosing the shoes, which will see you transition from single gal to married woman, is not exactly easy.

We need comfort, we need style, and we need something so Insta-worthy, it'd bring tears to your eyes.

With that in mind, we decided to trawl Instagram for inspiration should we ever find ourselves hightailing it up the aisle, and let's just say those Instagrammers did not disappoint.

Case in point:

The world is divided into two kinds of people.

There are those who –  when facing into six long weeks of Lent without sugar –  will avoid anything that might trigger a craving, and then there are those who will trawl Instagram and tantilise themselves with images of sugary works of art.

Ladies, we fall firmly into the second camp.

Six days into our Lenten Promise, we've sought solace on the world wide web, and are currently salivating over cupcakes that look like cactuses.

Don't judge us, because you'll soon be salivating too.

So, there was this one…

As it turns out, we did it recently ourselves, and felt compelled to share our favourites with y'all.

We all love a good landscape pic, right? Well, actually we might love them a bit too much.

A survey conducted by Lonely Planet has found that we take around 79 minutes out of our holliers just to edit snaps for Instagram.

A post shared by Lesia (@mrs.thebest) on

We give ourselves a lot of time to pick a filter, huh?

The research found that the most popular picture to upload while on holidays is a selfie, which we take ten of (on average), compared to only 7 photos of our surroundings.

It also found that we primarily only take photos so we can post them on social media, which is kinda sad, right?

Bonusprint, a personalised printing service, told Lonely Planet: "As a society, our love of taking photographs has never been stronger, particularly when we go on holiday.

"But so many of us are clearly either over-editing our pictures or do not know how to get the best out of our camera phones to capture those really special images that are worthy of printing"

Next time we're away, we're definitely going to appreciate what's around us and not what's on Instagram.

Behind every good Instagram pic, is the person that actually took it.

Ever wondered who takes those pictures of that bikini babe lounging on the beach or laughing candidly with her gal pals where all the friends are in the picture?

Well, those snaps are the work of the illusive Instagram boyfriend.

The much sought after Instagram boyfriend is on hand to take the perfect snaps 24/7, and keeps those likes and follows rolling in thanks to his excellent photography skills.

Whether it's the perfect group picture, the yoga pose, or the shot-from-the-back travel snap, the boy does good when it comes to getting the perfect lighting and set up.

A Facebook and Instagram page is committed to highlighting the trials and tribulations of the Instagram boyfriend, by exposing what taking the perfect picture really looks like.

His least favourite phrase: "Ew, take it again."

This page definitely made us laugh because it it pretty funny when you think bout what people really look like when posing for "the perfect Instagram picture."

But we also kind of wish we had an Instagram boyfriend to get us the likes we deserve.

Any volunteers?

In the world we live in today, when we go on holiday we mainly upload our pictures onto Facebook, right?

For the love of all things holy, you'd never upload more than one picture to Instagram, in the fear of clogging up and annoying your friends' Instafeed.

Image result for why you clogging my feed gif

By jaysus, what an awful thing to be doin'.

It's a bit sh*t, yeah, because let's be real, we want to show off all the fancy places we've been to, the food we've eaten and of course, our tanned hot-dog legs all in one go.

Well, Insta has heard our pleas and will soon update its app so we'll be able to upload as many photos as our hearts desire.

While currently in the testing phase, the photo-sharing network will make it possible for you to share entire galleries onto your account.

Reading a few gossip websites, it seems like it'll be very Tinder-esque, allowing you to swipe through various pics.

There's not much info on it at the moment, but we're hoping it comes before our next holliers.

We've all seen the MTV show Catfish, but just in case you haven't, catfishing refers to the act of posing as another person online in order to lure people into an online relationship under false pretences.

Some catfish edit photos of themselves to appear more attractive, but most people simply steal other's images and pass them off as their own.

One catfish went the extra mile in the case of Jessica Hunt.

Instagram personality Jessica Hunt tweeted an image of her which had been stolen by a catfish, which for someone with almost 100,000 followers probably isn't a very uncommon experience.

However this catfish had gone to extremes, and had photoshopped what seemed to be their own face onto Jessica's body.

"OH MY GOD that is my body and my house but who's face is that!?!? catfish game is getting silly," she said, in the tweet which has since gone viral.

A photo posted by Jessica Hunt (@jesshunt2) on

The hunt was then on to put a name to the photoshopped face.

This is where one Irish online personality who wishes to remain anonymous  was dragged into the mix, after savvy online detectives identified the photoshopped face as hers.

The model began receiving torrents of abuse and ridicule as people assumed she was the one behind the catfish stunt.

However, the model denies that she has anything to do with the image, and claims that it is in fact a catfish of hers who is behind it.

She believes that a catfish who has been relentlessly stalking her online for two years is behind the fake picture.

The catfish has previously created multiple accounts posing as the attractive model.

Jessica and the anonymous model have been in touch with each other over the ordeal, and are both shocked by the actions of the catfish, known only as Amy.

The catfish has since shown up on Tinder in the Essex area using the photoshopped image.

Someone call Nev and Max, ASAP!

We all know the drill. We get a little bit too tipsy and start exclaiming our love for everyone under the sun – or do it the other way around and berate everyone under the sun…

Sigh.

We all wish we could take back those senseless messages… and well, now we all can. Finally.

So, if you've ever found yourself DMing you ex, your boss or your frenemy, you can now take it all back as if it never happened.

And it's pretty simple. All you have to do is hover over the Direct Message you sent and an 'unsend' option should come up. Click that and hey presto! Vanished forever.

However, if they've already seen the message, you can't erase it from their mind, so you know, be quick before you have to live with The Fear.

Irish people have a bit of a reputation for our 'ah, it'll be grand attitude'.

However, this attitude may not be the best when it comes to expressing ourselves and our issues.

A project has been set up in London, encouraging women to anonymously share their secrets and know that they are not alone.

A photo posted by Cailini Secret (@cailinisecret) on

Cailíní Secret is an initiative inspired by the work of Frank Warren, who devised the concept of anonymous people revealing a secret they had previously never revealed on a postcard, in 2005.

The project encourages Irish women to create a postcard revealing their deepest secret – which can be absolutely anything – and sending it off the Cailíní Secret offices in London.

The revelation of the secrets is beneficial to those women who feel like they have no one to talk to.

It also benefits the women reading the cards, who may relate to the issues expressed.

2,000 blank postcards were sent to Irish women across London to encourage participation, and the cards will be featured in a book and an exhibition.

"We understand that one of our strengths – our endurance and ability to get on with things without making a fuss – can also be a weakness. In times of unhappiness, distress or life difficulty, many of us conceal our struggles instead of seeking support," Cailíní Secret volunteer Aoife Clements told the Journal

Cailíní Secret hopes to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, and increase awareness and understanding.

Every January, millions of women around the world make resolutions to lose weight, tone up, look more put together or just change themselves or their body in some way.

When those resolutions don't quite work out, in fact 80 percent of people have failed at their new resolutions by February according to U.S News, we can be left pretty downhearted.

However, everyone is drop dead GORGE in their own way, so a resolution to be  more positive about ourselves could be a winner.

And with the help of these Instagrams, this resolution will be a little easier to keep.
