When we watched the Quidditch Championships on Harry Potter, we cheered for Gryffindor to take home the house cup.

And now, you can cheer on Ireland in a real-life Quidditch game.

Yep, Ireland is taking part in the European Quidditch Games in Oslo this week, and we're looking forward to seeing the skills the teams learned from the movies.

This will be the second edition of the biennial tournament, where countries are split into three groups of five teams.

Ireland is grouped with Slovakia, The Netherlands, Poland and Sweden.

The first ever European Games were won by France in 2015, and now Ireland is looking to take home the Quidditch trophy.

The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, is set to visit Ireland next week, and we're all jumping for joy.

Our new Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, will host a meeting with Justin and it has been reported that they will discuss trade deals.

Leo has previously spoken about his admiration for Justin, and said in the Dáil today the he will be delighted to welcome Mr Trudeau and his family to Ireland next Tuesday.

In the past, Mr Varadkar said that he is a fan of the Canadian's work and noted that “we have a lot in common as countries."

Justin was the first to create a cabinet with an equal number of men and women in 2015.

Justin has recently been noted on social media as somewhat of a heart throb, however it's his work for his country that he's most commended for.

If you were an early riser, you may have caught some of the rain that was lashing down this morning, so it may come as a surprise that a wether warning has been issued today because of the heat.

Met Éireann have issued the warning for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Wicklow and Meath, as temperatures are set to reach 28 C.

However, the day will not kick off with sunshine, as heavy cloud cover and rainfall covers most of the country.

'Scattered showers this morning will turn heavy with the risk of some thundery downpours before clearing northeastwards.'

'Later it will become mostly dry over much of the country with sunny spells developing and just a few scattered showers remaining, mainly in the north and northeast.'

'It will be very warm and humid with top temperatures reaching 22 to 28 degrees, highest in parts of Leinster.'

So hopefully this rainy tropical weather will make way for a bright and sunny day.

Just remember to wear a hat and sunscreen with this warning in place.

We probably only get 3.5 days of pure sunshine in Ireland, so it's safe to say we all get a little excited when the temperature rises above 20C.

And since the whole weekend was filled with an enormous amount of glorious sun, most of us probably did a few things on the list here.

1. Checked the weather app on your phone

Because you never believe the weather woman on TV. Plus, you need to screenshot that sh*t for Instagram.

2. Announced your delight that the sun is out to everyone

'The weather's gorgeous, isn't it?' was uttered to your mam, neighbour, milkman, dog.

3. Made extravagant BBQ plans

Then you found out that the BBQ was broken or rusted… Trip to IKEA it is!

4. Pulled out your holiday clothes

Because we might as well be in Costa Rica. Short shorts, crop tops, flowy dresses, sandals; all made an appearance.

5. 'Forgot' about applying sun screen

Because we're all stupid and never learn. Cue farmer's tan.

6. Tried to be ~*adventurous*~

Hiked up mountains, dived off cliffs… tried to let your inner Bear Grylls out.

7. Thought it was a good idea to go day drinking

Sure, what else would you be doing when the sun is out in Ireland?

8. Regretted your decision to go day drinking

Come 4 o'clock, you're already langers and don't know what to do with the rest of your day.

9. Decided to do it all over again the next day

The short shorts, the beer, the regret… the fun.

The engagement ring has barely been placed on your finger, and you're already being forced to consider neighbourhood politics, your mother's desire to invite relatives you've never met and your granny's reaction to a Humanist ceremony.

Congratulations, you've just gotten engaged in Ireland.

Tapping into the drama that generally accompanies an engagement announcement around these parts, Foil Arms and Hog have uploaded a video that, if we're honest, reads like a transcript of every post-engagement conversation that has ever taken place in our homes.

We're going to let the lads do the talking on this one…

As London attempts to come to terms with Saturday's night abhorrent attack on innocent civilians, further information regarding the attackers' backgrounds is now coming to light.

And as the Irish public learns that one of the now deceased attackers recently spent time living in south Dublin, security analyst, Tom Clonan, has offered his perspective on Ireland's vulnerability in the current climate.

Speaking on Today with Sean O' Rourke, he acknowledged that the nation's status is ever-changing.

"The risk profile for the Republic has changed. This time last year, I would have said that an attack in Ireland was possible, in theory, but highly unlikely," he said.

"As of today, unfortunately, and very sadly, we have to consider that an attack in Ireland, whether a lone-wolf attack or a supported-network attack, is a distinct possibility.”

“The fact that we had an Irish resident on the street in the Borough markets, creating havoc, we cannot assume therefore that we are immune to such an attack," he added.

Using Sweden as a comparison, the security analyst explained that despite being seen as "a country with a very low threat assessment, a neutral country like Ireland, with a very well-integrated ethnic minority", the Swedish capital still came under attack when a hijacked truck targeted crowds in the country's capital.

However, despite his concerns, Mr Clonan was keen to assuage the public in light of his remarks, and reinforced the belief that Ireland's position varied greatly from Britain's while speaking positively about Ireland's Islamic community.

“The vast majority of Irish Muslims are extraordinarily well integrated. They play Gaelic games; they participate actively in all aspects of Irish life," he said.

We were about to get excited when we heard temperatures would be up to 22 degrees this week, however Met Éireann has warned us to not whip out the shorts and tank tops just yet.

It is predicted that "changeable" weather will continue into the week ahead, however most days will be "breezy and cloudy."

Today, it will be "mostly cloudy at first with patches of rain, drizzle and fog and some heavy pockets of rain over parts of Leinster and Ulster."

However, as the day progresses, we will experience some "bright spells," with maximum temperatures reaching 15 to 19 degrees.

Tomorrow will be cloudy at first, with some rain, but will gradually brighten up with sunny spells developing into the day and highs of 19 degrees.

That's basically how it will be for the rest of the week, and as we reach the weekend, early indications say it will be "relatively cool and fresh with sunny spells and scattered showers."

The recently released Global Drug Survey has revealed that Irish people use MDMA more frequently than in any other country.

The data in the survey is based on nearly 120,000 submissions from over 50 countries, who were polled on their use of illegal substances and alcohol.

Ireland tops the charts, with people using the drug for an average of 15 days across the entire year.

The study also had some interesting insight into the ways in which Irish people use the drug, which is considered a Class A substance in many countries.

An average of 64 per cent of Irish females and 53.1 per cent of males take a quarter or half of an MDMA laced pill to start with in the under 25s age bracket.

Over 70.3 per cent of females and 62.7 per cent of males also choose to assess the strength of the drugs by consuming a small amount before taking any more.

MDMA pills in Ireland sell for an average of €7.10, while a gram of the powder substance costs €46.50, according to a Mixmag report.

Of the roughly 25,000 MDMA users from around the world who took part in the survey, 1.2% sought emergency medical treatment after taking the drug.

According to the survey, 'MDMA remains one of the most popular illicit drugs in the world and is mainly used recreationally by people attending electronic dance music events.'

If you feel that you or anyone you know is having problems associated with MDMA or drug-taking, you can contact the Irish Drugs Helpline on 1800 459 459 to find out about options in your area.

It’s that time of year again; everyone’s jetting off to the States for a J1 or flying off to Bali.

And with all of the fab places around the world to see, it’s easy to overlook the holiday destinations right on your doorstep.

But if you’re a bit short on money or only have a day or two to spare so can’t head abroad, Ireland has plenty to offer.

Have a look at these…

Galway

A personal favourite is Galway city; you still get the city vibe but it has a more chilled feel than Dublin.

With the typical tourist spots like the Cathedral, Galway City Museum or Shop Street, as well as its famed nightlife, there is a lot to do and see here.

A tip for a sunny afternoon in Galway: walk or cycle, you can easily register online to use one of the numerous Coke Zero bicycles and it doesn’t cost much, through the city and its outskirts.

There are so many little places that you won’t read about in the typical “Top Ten Things to See in Galway”, that are just waiting to be discovered.

Wicklow

This gorgeous seaside town has a lot to offer in the summer.

Arguably one of the most valuable assets Wicklow has is its many scenic gardens. It isn’t called the Garden of Ireland for nothing! And you won’t pay more than about €7 entry… if you have to pay at all, that is!

Everyone knows about Glendalough and Powerscourt, but some lesser known ones are Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford, a small village close to Wicklow town, and Kilmacurragh Botanical Gardens just east of Wicklow town. Strolling through these on a lovely summer’s day you’ll forget you’re still in Ireland!

Wexford

Wexford is a popular holiday destinations for families, with places like Courtown and Wexford Heritage Centre, but there’s more to it than that.

It’s the perfect place for a girly weekend away, with its numerous hotels that often do great afternoon tea and spa deals. Relax in luxury with a glass of Prosecco and forget that you’re just an hour or so from Dublin.

Clare

We know, we know; Clare is often associated with the family camping holidays of your childhood.

And sleeping in a cold tent and getting dirty might not sound appealing unless you’re promised some good music as well, right?

Well, glamping in Doolin is far from those childhood memories where you took your life in your hands eating chicken cooked over the campfire. It has a bit more luxury, a few more facilities and a lot less mud!

Waterford

Again Waterford has the feel of a city without all the hustle and bustle you find in Dublin; perfect for a relaxing few days away.

It has enough shops and pubs that you won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything that you’d get in Dublin either.

Take the ten minute bus trip up to Tramore and check out its fabulous sandy beaches and clear seas. If you get a good summers day, you’ll wonder why you were ever upset you couldn’t go to Spain.

You can't beat a good cuppa tea.

Whether you bring tea bags away on holiday with you (guilty), or just love a good catch-up over a cuppa in the office, there's nothing better than sitting back with that toasty cup in your hand.

Now, we know we're a nation obsessed with tea, so supermarket chain Tesco decided to conduct a survey to find out which province in Ireland likes it the most.

*Drumroll*

Well, Connaught took the top spot, with 82 per cent of residents stating they are obsessed, and to further that, one-third of these said that they drink more than five cups everyday.

In second place is Ulster, with 78 per cent pledging their allegiance to the beverage, while Munster came in third with 73 per cent.

Leinster (excluding Dublin) also came in at 73 per cent, and we were pretty disappointed to hear that Dublin came last, with only 65 per cent of us admitting to loving a good cuppa.

Well, there you have it. Now, all this talk about tea has made us thirsty…
