Ireland

Earlier this week Coldplay hinted that they could be making their much anticipated return to Ireland as part of their 2017 European Tour.

And now the news has been confirmed as Lovin Dublin has reported that the band will play Croke Park next July.

Tickets will go on sale for the July 8 gig this coming Friday, October 7.

We boast many fine locations on this island.

From our wonderful park-lands, dramatic coastlines and rolling fields, to world-class libraries and ancient castles, we can proudly lay claim to plenty of internationally-renowned tourist gems.

But just for a moment image this: we cherry-pick the best of the rest from the most fun and fabulous attractions around the world… and create our very own (superior!) versions just for the people of this great land to enjoy on their doorstep…

1) Disneyland Drogheda

Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris, Orlando… they ALL have a Walt Disney theme-park packed full of fun. And now it’s Ireland’s turn.

Located just off the M1, Disneyland Drogheda would boast its very own Space Mountain, Cinderella Castle and Animal Kingdom experience, as well as head-turning daily parades and spectacular firework displays.

2) Circuit de Moneygall, Offaly

A vital new addition to the Formula 1 racing schedule – Circuit de Moneygall would be a world-class circuit holding a Grand Prix to rival Silverstone, Monza, and Monaco.

Conveniently positioned in Moneygall – a town, of course, made famous by Barack Obama – it would have state-of-the-art facilities for drivers, teams, media, and spectators.

3) Sydney Parade Opera House, Dublin

Hosting the crème de la crème of the entertainment world, Sydney Parade Opera House would sit proudly in Dublin Bay over-looking the water.

With acts and performers arriving from Broadway and the West End, Ireland would enjoy year-round second-to-none concerts, shows, and gigs.

4) Wet ‘n’ Wild, Athlone

A water-park to rival the world's biggest and the best, Wet ‘n’ Wild Athlone would attract a steady-stream of international tourists.

Sitting on the expansive Lough Ree, highlights would include tube and freefall slides, lazy and wave pools, as well as top-notch water-sport facilities.

5) Lusk Vegas, Dublin

North county Dublin’s answer to the City Of Lights, this resort would boast Ireland’s very own Bellagio and Caesar’s Palace hotels, as well as a Little White Chapel perfect for a quick and easy wedding ceremony.

Furthermore, casinos and restaurants would be bathed in bright neon lights along the glittering Lusk Vegas Strip.

6) The Rink at Blackrockefeller Center, Cork

Complete with its trademark 5.5metres-tall gilded bronze sculpture of Prometheus, The Rink at Blackrockefeller Center would understandably be a major draw to Cork – quickly rivalling its Manhattan counterpart as the world’s most iconic place to ice-skate.

At Christmas it would really come into its own, sporting a 30metre-tall Norway spruce fir complete with oodles of festival lighting and decorations.

7) The Letterkenny Eye, Donegal

Nestled on the River Swilly and extending to an impressive 150metres tall, the Letterkenny Eye would be a Ferris wheel to rival all others.

Attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists to the town, the wheel would soon be established as the very symbol of Donegal.

8) Palm Islands, Rosslare

The sunny south-east would be the perfect place for Ireland’s answer to Dubai’s spectacular coastline extension.

Palm Island, Rosslare would accommodate a stunning complex of five-star residential units, leisure and entertainment attractions, as well as hundreds of kilometres of unspoilt sandy white beaches and palm trees.

But if you assume these dreams are all a little too far-fetched – think again. That’s because of tonight’s incredible EuroMillions draw. A cool €130million to dream not just big, but monumentally so… allowing the winner to #ShareTheDream with the wider community.

Be quick though: you have until 7.30pm this evening to play EuroMillions a retail agent outlets, via lottery.ie, or using the National Lottery app.

It seems like Mel Gibson is having some great 'ol craic in Dublin.

Over the past two weeks he's been spotted in various restaurants, at the Panti Bliss play and has enjoyed some down time on the streets of the city with his girlfriend.

And last night, the man himself hopped on stage in the Abbey Theatre.

He was there to see the finale of Observe The Sons and the Abbey later took to Instagram to share a picture of him on stage with the cast.

The theatre captioned the pic: "We had a visitor last night for the final performance of #ObserveTheSons on the #Abbeystage!

"#MelGibson with Andy Kellegher and ASM Aidan Doheny."

We're looking forward to seeing what he gets up to next!

While feeling forgetful is often associated with old age, a new study has revealed that stress is causing young Irish women to forget some very important tasks.

60 percent of female Irish millennials were found to be so consumed by stress that they were failing to take care of everyday jobs like taking their contraceptive pill, while 30 percent admitted that forgetfulness has become a regular feature of their everyday lives.

According to the survey – which was conducted by Bayer to mark World Contraception Day – a huge number of 21 to 29-year-olds are at risk of having an unplanned pregnancy, with 70 percent admitting they were more likely to miss their pill when stressed.

As reported by The Irish Mirror, one in seven women admitted to forgetting to take their pill once or twice a month.

Other basic tasks like removing makeup at night and putting a phone on charge were also affected during times of worry.

Professor Sabina Brennan from Trinity College told The Irish Mirror that the results of the survey add to existing research which suggests that stress and memory are connected.

She said: “Stress isn’t always a bad thing; a properly controlled stress response can give us extra energy and focus needed to cope with challenge.”

“But in today’s complex world psychological and social stressors can be unrelenting for millennial women, and can affect health, well-being and even memory.”

Spa day anyone?

Today marked the 5th annual March for Choice in Dublin City Centre.

Mothers, daughters, brothers, fathers, friends and even movie stars flooded the streets of the city as they set out in order for the Eight Amendment to be changed and for abortion to be legalised in Ireland.

And even with the downpour of rain and Dublin Bus on strike, the people of Ireland came out in their thousands.

Here, we take a look at the best reactions on social media to the day's event:

It’s been less than two weeks since we revealed national heartthrobs Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan would be appearing on The Late Late Show.

And while we totally understand that we can’t be treated to such big names every single week, is a sheep really the next best thing to Jamie and Cillian?

Along with British adventurer Bear Grylls, Wedding Crashers star Jane Seymour and Irish musician BP Fallon, a sheep will appear in RTÉ studios this Friday night.

OK so Tubs isn’t exactly going to conduct an interview with the woolly creature, but – according to rte.ie – world record sheep shearer Ivan Scott will be using the animal to demonstrate his impressive skillset live in studio.

With a line-up like that you can’t say The Late Late is any ordinary chat show.

Well, hold the phone because two of our favourite ladies just got tattoos in Northern Ireland.

The babes headed to Belfast to be inked by tattoo artist Kat Paine, who said both of the girls are "dead-on."

Kat took to Facebook to share a fab pic of them in her studio. She captioned the snap: "Got to tattoo these gorgeous girlies today Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones."

Neither of the women have shared their matching tattoos yet, but Maisie took to Instagram yesterday to post a picture of the pair along with the caption: "07.08.09."

Struggling to find a gaf in Dublin?  Oh, we hear ya.

Between the Internet, an improving minimum wage and decent public transport links you would think that finding a place to live in the country’s capital shouldn’t be overly taxing.

But if this latest gem on Daft.ie is anything to go by, that assumption is nothing short of being completely and utterly bonkers.

According to this Daft ad, a nicely furnished double ensuite room in the popular village of Ranelagh will cost you a cool €1,250 a month BEFORE you pay any of your bills.

Granted the room is located only four minutes from the closest Luas stop and is part of a recently restored Georgian house which “boasts all mod cons”, but is that really enough to justify paying €15,000 per year to share a decent house with two other people?

Sadly this situation is quickly becoming the new normal as late last month a Daft report revealed that rents nationwide have now surpassed what they were during the Celtic Tiger era.

The report suggested that renting in the capital will now cost you 5.2 percent more than it would have in early 2008 and since landlords are taking full advantage of this situation, is it any wonder you could end up paying well over a grand a month for a house share?

So if you find yourself going completely daft as you search through, well, Daft, just know that you are by no means alone.

It's fierce heavy out there today. Met Éireann are politely calling it "warm and humid" (they're not wrong) – and there's also been a load of mist along the south coast.

And while temperatures will hover around the low-to-mid 20s (that'll do nicely, September; that'll do), it's the CRAZY humidity that really caught our eye.

Yup – in short there is about zero point in attempting to do anything with your gruaige until at least Thursday.

Spare a particular thought for Cork: there, humidity has hit a MAD 98 percent. Waterford came in at 94 percent, with Galway hovering around the 90 percent mark.

Dublin gets off lightly with a mere 77 percent humidity. Limerick and Belfast notch up an 88 percent and an 82 percent respectively.

As for sleeping tonight, you won't be getting much of it. Met Éireann warn: "Tuesday night will be another close and humid night with widespread mist and with patches of drizzle and fog also."

Whether you spent the weekend in a tent, at the office or watching the All Ireland Hurling Final, it’s likely you’ll be heading to work today with some major Monday blues.

But as the remains of the weekend’s Snapchat stories fade away for another week, we’ve learned that tickets for next year’s Electric Picnic festival are about to go on sale.

Okay so it might seem a little early to be making plans for next year – like most of us don’t know what we’re doing next week, never mind in 365 days time – but given the pre-EP ticket scramble that revellers have experienced in recent times, having Picnic tickets in advance mightn’t be the worst idea.

According to RTE.ie, passes for Electric Picnic 2017 will go on sale this Friday (September 9) at 9am.

Festival organisers say the event’s capacity will remain at 55,000 people as they don’t want it getting any bigger, but unfortunately for dedicated festival goers the price of loyalty tickets is set to increase by a fiver.

While there is still loads of time to prep for EP '17, we're sure there will be plenty of people looking forward to Friday.

Jonah Hill is one of our favourite actors, so we were delighted to find out he loves Dublin just as much as we love him.

Apparently, we're "really special" people here!

The actor hasn't been in the capital for two years, having travelled here to promote 22 Jump Street with Channing Tatum in 2014, however he said it's a place he'll always remember.

"I want to get back [to Ireland] so bad," he told RTÉ Entertainment. "I really love Dublin.

"I think it's a special place, the people are really special.

"Honestly, I judge a place by the people, and in Dublin the people have a really special demeanour, very self-deprecating, very funny, just good to be around."

Awwww! We <3 Jonah.
