Ireland

A huge lump of butter has just been found in Ireland – and it dates back nearly 2000 years.

The prehistoric 10kg 'bog butter' was found by turf-cutter Jack Conway, while working on Emlagh bog in Co Meath last week.

The 'bog butter' has now been given to the National Museum, where the Irish Antiques Division said it was a significant discovery as it was found in the ancient Drakerath area.

The Drakerath area was where 11 townlands and three boundaries of ancient baronies met.

“These bogs in those times were inaccessible, mysterious places,” he said.

“It is at the juncture of three separate kingdoms, and politically it was like a no-man’s-land – that is where it all hangs together," said Andy Halpin of the National Museum.

But most surprising, is the fact that the butter is STILL edible. Top chef, Kevin Thorton has admitted that he tasted the butter already, because bogs used to be the place that farmers would store there food to preserve it.

“Theoretically the stuff is still edible – but we wouldn’t say it’s advisable."

Yep, we think we'll pass on eating it.

This is possibly one of the best fan videos to come from the Euros 2016 so far.

Instead of fighting with the team playing against us, or having a bar brawl, our fans over in France decided to take part in a huge rendition of Dancing Queen, and we totally nailed it.

In the video, a Swedish fan is seen holding up speakers, while the ABBA song pours out through them, and always the ABBA fan, a whole group of Irish joined in.

See, you can't bring us anywhere:

We're happy enough with our draw last night against Sweden, but something that's even better than that is the Irish flags sporting the streets of France at the moment.

Now, these flags aren't your usual green, white and orange, and they don't only sport the word, "Ireland" across them. No, these flags are so much better.

From taking the mick out of the team, to numerous amounts of Father Ted quotes, these are the best Irish flags from the 2016 Euros:

1. Every Irish person away on their holliers…

2. Well, that's one way to do it!

3. Obligatory Father Ted flag

4. ALL of us last night

5. Eamon <3

6. Shout out to Shane Long

7. This one was actually stolen during the match 🙁

8. The best thing, apparently…

9. For the year that's in it

10. He'll always have us covered

In the end of last night's match, Ireland drew 1-1 with Sweden, which will delight any Irish fan because that means we're one step further to the final.

And if there's anything that will get you motivated to support our boys in green, it's Conor McGregor's call to Ireland.

The UFC champion urged the lads to show how tough they really are, and refuse to take any backwards steps in their games.

"These young pups were still in their nappies when you were knee deep in the trenches," is one of our favourite lines from Conor's message, but apart from that, he is carrying the spirit we all need to win.

Our next match is Saturday, June 18, where we will go head to head against Belgium. Let's hope Conor's message sinks in as we take on the next stage.

Tens of thousands of Irish fans are currently in the French capital in advance of the team's opening Euro 2016 game.

And joining them this evening is none other than Mr Tayto himself.

The oversized potato-man furthermore made sure he was suitably decked out for the sporting event – which sees the Republic of Ireland squad take on Sweden.

Wearing a green, white, and orange curly wig he proudly sported a green jersey and scarf while getting to know some of in situ fans.

Closer to home, the same Mr Tayto can currently be found across Tayto Cheese & Onion 150g sharing bag and Tayto multipacks.

COYBIG!

It's safe to say we all love surprising – or playing jokes on – our Irish mammies. They just have the BEST reactions.

But sometimes – as these two Clondalkin brothers found out – it can go very, very wrong.

According to FM104, Jason Garvey and his brother wanted to *surprise* their mother who was on holidays.

To celebrate to upcoming Euros, the lads painted the house green, white and orange. YES. The WHOLE house.

Now, the lads swear they were only thinking of their mammy, but admitted that she's not the biggest fan of football. Huh?

"She hates it but watches the big games and pretends she knows it all," Jason said.

So, Jason and his brother started the work on painting the house when disaster struck. Jason's brother climbed up a ladder, only to fall from it at a height and hurt his back.

And to make to story worse, their mother was absolutely livid at what her boys have done.

"She was shocked. She hates it, she's very embarrassed," Jason said.

Shock horror, lads. We think you've learned your lesson.

He's making waves over in America with his presidential election campaign, and now the man himself, Donald Trump, is coming to Ireland.

The millionaire revealed last night that he's going to make his way to the resort that he owns in Doonbeg, after he takes a trip to Scotland.

"After @TrumpScotland, I will visit @TrumpDoonbeg in Ireland, the magnificant resort fronting on the Atlantic Ocean," he wrote.

Most recently, Xpose star Glenda Gilson held her weekend wedding there back in 2014, with the five star resort boasting a luxury hotel, a golf course and a spa.

We doubt he's going to meet up with Taoiseach Enda Kenny though, after Enda called him "racist and dangerous" in the Dáil this week. Ooops.

Will you go out to see the man himself?

Let's be honest, we love it when our international artists show off a little bit of their Irish side.

And Hozier, while on a hiatus from music, did just that while in Killarney recently.

The Wicklow native shared a throwback video on Instagram of himself at the Ladies View – a portion of the Ring of Kerry which "name apparently stems from the admiration of the view given by Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting during their 1861 visit."

The musician got a great laugh by being a "rebel" and breaking the rules by being a male in the women-only spot.

But, something that stuck out to us more than ever, was the caption he put on the video:

Throwback to rebel antics #ladiesview #ladiesonly #breakingtherules shmad lad.

Yep. "SHMAD LAD."

How Irish?! We're sure his American fans haven't a notion what he's on about.

Throughout the past month, the Star Wars cast and crew have been travelling around Ireland to shoot the eighth instalment of the film.

They have been to a fair few places, including Donegal, Kerry and then ended their trip in Crookhaven, West Cork.

It's a pretty big deal that one of the biggest movie franchises would choose Ireland to record the movie, but something that we never thought we'd see is a thank you note.

LucasFilm took out an ad in the Irish Examiner to thank the people in Cork, and by the looks of it they were pretty impressed by everyone in Crookhaven, Goleen and the Brow Head Peninsula:

They wrote: "We have been captivated by the landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way, it has provided a spectacular backdrop for our story.

"The tireless commitment of our Irish Crew, the enthusiasm and support of all the people of West Cork have made our Irish adventure one we will always treasure.

"Go mbeidh an fórsa leat!! – May the force be with you!!"

HOW LOVELY?! We're dying over here…

What is going on with Justin Bieber lately?

He seems to be complaining about his life 24/7 and in his most recent rant, he made us all very, very confused.

The singer took to Instagram last night and shared a picture of the Rock of Cashel in Co Tipperary, however, the caption of the picture was about award shows.

He went on to say that he doesn't "feel good" about them, and he can't help but think "people are rating and grading" his performance… Yet, the reason for the Irish landmark picture is totally unexplained.

I don't know about these award shows.. No disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don't feel good when I'm there nor after. I try to think of it as a celebration but can't help feeling like people are rating and grading my performance. A lot of people in the audience there to be seem worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with. When I'm doing a regular show I feel they are there for the right reasons and to strictly have a good time! But these award shows seem so hollow. I get the premise is to award people for their accomplishments, but is it really? Because when I look in the audience I see a bunch of fake smiles so that when the camera hits them they look happy. Sure there are people truly proud of others so I don't want to knock them I'm just looking at the vast majority. I just think to myself if I'm living my purpose I want the reward to be fulfillment. I'm getting awarded for the things that I'm doing and not for who I am which is understandable I know it would probably be hard to calculate and award someone's spirit lol. But When I do get these awards the temptation of putting my worth in what I do is so hard to fight!!!I am privileged and honored to be recognized by my peers in but in these settings I can't feel the recognition. There's an authenticity missing that I crave! And I wonder does anybody else.. Sorry not sorry about grammar it's not my strong point

The sky in the snap looks dark and horrid (what's new, Ireland?!) so maybe he was trying to make the picture reflect his mood.

Either way, he's confused, we're confused, and the sheep in the picture are probably very confused.

It seems that we'll have to enjoy this good weather while it lasts because next week it's meant to take a turn.

Met Eireann Forecaster Harm Luijkx said: “Well it will become more changeable I’m afraid next week so Monday is looking still to be dry with sunshine but the rest of the week will become more changeable with rain coming from the Atlantic," he told the Independent.

“So normal Irish weather for next week.”

Temperatures are meant to reach the high twenties today, so if we were you, we'd get right out there and soak it all up.

There is always a MASSIVE queue when new Yeezys become available that we're surprised everyone in Ireland doesn't have a pair already.

But now, your kids will be able to run around in Kanye's runners too because Yeezy Boost 350 for Infants are arriving to Ireland this summer.

Sole Collector previously reported that baby Yeezys will be available this August after a photo was leaked of the shoes being sold online – and now they have confirmed it!

According to the listing, baby Yeezys will be available in three colours – Pirate Black, Turtle Dove and Beluga.

Kanye's missus Kim previously shared a photo of her son Saint's new Turtle Dove coloured Yeezys on Easter Sunday, so it was only a matter of time before Kanye released them to the rest of the world.

So, if you have a little kiddy that would love these, you better start queuing (and saving) soon!
