The Irish Girl Guides amend rules to allow transgender kids into clubs
The Irish Girl Guides, sometimes more commonly known as IGG, has passed a motion that will allow transgender children into their ranks from now on.
The organisation, which met over the weekend, has confirmed that their rules have now changed to accommodate children who are male on their birth certificate but identify as female.
The group said that this decision will amend its equality policy to include "anyone who lives their lives as female is welcome to join."
The CEO of the IGG, Linda Peters, said that they are currently coming up with guidelines on how to welcome the new members on-board.
"Our board decided to invite one of our own members who has a transgender child to come to our next meeting to help with our discussions and consideration regarding practical guidelines for our volunteer leaders."
We're delighted things are going in this direction.
