Miley’s homeless VMA date turns himself in to police
Jesse Helt made headlines earlier this week when he was invited to the VMAs as Miley Cyrus’ date, and gave a moving acceptance speech on her behalf about homeless youth.
The publicity wasn’t all good news however as it was revealed a few days later that Jesse had a warrant out for his arrest.
In 2011 Jesse pleaded guilty to trespassing after he broke into the house of a man he believed was selling bad marijuana. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation. He violated his probation, and an arrest warrant was put out for him in November 2011.
22-year-old Jesse has now turned himself in at the Polk County Jail in Dallas, Oregon, where he was booked on a probation violation warrant. He was released on $2,500 bail, which was reportedly paid for by Miley.
Miley met Jesse through the Hollywood homeless shelter, My Friend’s Place with the help of her friend Trevor Neilson. Trevor is the president of G2 Investment Group and co-founder of Global Philanthropy Group.
"Jesse Helt turned himself in tonight to Polk County authorities to address his outstanding legal issues,” Trevor said in an email statement.
"Miley Cyrus will be assisting him with this process, and they both are committed to working to help the other 1.6 million youth who experience homelessness in America each year."
Jesse’s mum Linda Helt confirmed that Miley has offered to pay for Jesse’s legal help in the coming months. He is due to appear before a judge in two weeks time.
