Chrissy Teigen has recently found herself at the eye of a storm of controversy due to old tweets getting dug up from the dead, and 2019 doesn't look great either for her.

The social media star was celebrating New Year's Eve in Times Square on Monday night, and between the rain and bitterly cold temperatures, it wasn't a glorious occasion.

After counting down the annual ball drop alongside Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones, the former supermodel goes in for a hug and ends up with an umbrella in the eyeball.

NBC's special broadcast was on live television, so naturally the clip went viral on Twitter pretty damn quick. 

She joked; "I'm okay!" after writing: "7am. Heading back out to Times Square to find my eyeball." Ouchie.

The SNL star was hugely apologetic over Twitter (and in person, we assume) and posted to her own account:

The actress commented;

"I can't believe I hit Chrissy Teigen in the face!! Lord!! I love you boo!! So sorry!!"

It wasn't either of their finest New Year's Eve moments, but it was HILARIOUS and we're grateful for the comedic content on our Twitter feeds.

The actress recently starred in the latest reboot of Ghostbusters, but since then, she's been receiving major abuse online.

And to make matters worse, Leslie Jones' website was hacked this morning and private information, including her driver's licence and passport info were leaked for the world to see.

On top of that, the hacker posted private, naked photos of the actress, as well as videos and pictures of gorillas.

Before her website was hacked, Leslie left social media for a few months because the abuse got so bad. 

In the midst of the controversy, the star spoke to one of Twitter's founders, Jack Dorsey, who suspended activist Milo Yiannopoulos' account because his followers were sending very hateful messages to her. 

Today, Milo told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'm distressed to hear that Leslie Jones has been hacked and naked pictures of her have been posted online. I know we had our differences after my review of Ghostbusters but I wish her all the best at what must be a deeply upsetting time."

When it was announced last year that a third Ghostbusters film was in the pipeline AND that it would have an all-female cast, we just about exploded with excitement

Well, that cast has finally been announced, and it has definitely lived up to expectation. 

As predicted, Melissa McCarthy will star in the Paul Feig-directed movie, alongside comedy heavyweight Kristen Wiig and her fellow SNL stars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. WIN!

Although the news has not been explicitly confirmed, Paul tweeted this collage of the four actresses yesterday, strongly hinting that they were the chosen stars:

Given that Paul was the mastermind behind Bridesmaids, it's no surprise that he chose to cast Melissa and Kristen together… for their dancing skills if nothing else:

The film is set to be released in July 2016. We can't wait for the first teaser trailer!
