They performed on last night's X Factor final, but it seems we won't be hearing much more from the One Direction boys for a while.

After confirming back in the summer that they would indeed be taking an hiatus of a year or more come 2016, the famous foursome appeared to have finished things up early.

Within minutes of appearing on the X Factor stage, Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis took to Twitter to share this video goodbye with their fans, giving them a "massive" thank you, and calling the hiatus the "last part of our first chapter."

The lads also posted their own personal goodbyes via Twitter, but it was their faces at the end of their performance that said it all:

Hoooum.

While it's unlikely the 1D boys will be making any music together for a while, we could be hearing some solo writing and singing work – at least from some of them.

There has been massive speculation that Harry plans to launch a solo project, while Ellie Goulding has also confirmed she'll be heading into the studio with Niall.

"He's a good friend of mine and it goes without saying that writing a song with someone you are friends with and someone you get on with, you can't really replace that with anything," she said of their decision to work together.

"I write the best songs with someone I feel truly comfortable with. So, definitely I think it will be a laugh.''

Liam's also said he'd like nothing better than to keep his toe in the pop music waters, saying in an interview last week that he "just wants to write songs."

Wonder if they'll get back together at the end of it all? Well, we'll always have 2010…

The cuteness.

What would you do if you were a multi-millionaire?

Buy your dream house? Probably. Travel around the world? Yup, that's a contender too.

What about buying a novelty flying car to put in your garden? Well, if you're Liam Payne that's exactly how you'd be spending your hard-earned euro.

The One Direction singer revealed on UK radio this week that, as a self-confessed Harry Potter nerd, he actually has one VERY important piece of memorabilia from the film in his house.

"I bought the Harry Potter car and I put it in my garden," he told Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1.

"You know the blue car, the flying one? I bought one because I’m a bit of a geek."

Harry Potter fans will recall the Weasley's enchanted Ford Anglia that Harry and Ron use to fly to Hogwarts in their second year, after failing to get through the Platform 9 3/4 entrance at King's Cross Station.

Liam now owns one of just a few "enchanted" Fords used during the filming of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets back in 2002.

Another one can be seen on the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in London, and a third lives at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire.

Of course, the 1D singer's Harry Potter obsession doesn't end with movie memorabilia. The star also had his 22nd birthday cake custom-designed to look like a stack of Hogwarts books.

And if you were wondering what house Liam would be in if he HAD gotten that elusive letter from Hogwarts way back when, it would be Gryffindor.

"I did the test on the website," he told Nick.

"My friend got Hufflepuff and I got Gryffindor. He was so annoyed."

We would be too, in fairness…

In just a few months, the world-famous foursome that is One Direction will part ways for an indefinite "hiatus."

Their new album, Made In The AM, comes out today, and following a few more tour dates and a potential appearance at the BRITs to promote it, Niall, Louis, Liam and Harry will say goodbye to the boyband world for a while.

When the news broke originally, The Sun's Dan Wootton said the break would last "at least a year," but now it appears we'll be waiting a lot longer than that for a new 1D album.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge this week, Liam Payne casually mentioned that the split was more likely to last "two years."

Two years. 104 weeks. 730 days. 17,520 hours… that's a very long time in the world of a One Direction fan.

"I just want to write songs," Liam, who recently split from his girlfriend of two years Sophia Smith, said of his plans for the extended break.

"We haven't really had time to write an album and whereas two years off…"

Niall Horan also has similar musical projects planned over the next two years, with Ellie Goulding revealing just yesterday that she plans to team up with him in the studio for his solo work.

"I’m going to write with him. He’s a really good guitarist and he’s funny, cheeky, really cool," she told The Sun.

"He’s been my friend for quite a few years so I’m really up for it."

The pair have indeed been friends for years and even went "on a few dates" back in 2013, according to Ellie.

In fact, it's their fling that's rumoured to have abruptly ended her and Ed Sheeran's burgeoning relationship, as documented by Ed in his song, Don't.

Wonder if Ellie and Niall have a similarly controversial duet planned?

After two years together, Liam Payne and Sophia Smith confirmed their split last week, but it seems it might not have been a mutual decision.

In a new interview, Liam admits the break-up was extremely tough on him, but it was what Sophia wanted.

"I'm absolutely devastated," he admitted to The Sun.

Despite being just months away from an indefinite hiatus from One Direction, inevitably it was Liam's work commitments that caused things to go sour.

"Being on the tour all this year and being away from her was so hard. We spent so much time apart.

"But in order to do right by somebody sometimes it's better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what's better for them."

Of all the One Direction lads, Liam has always seemed the most committed to his long-term relationship, often taking to social media over the last two years to tell Sophia (and his millions of followers) how much he missed her.

One Direction have spent the majority of 2015 on their On The Run tour, with a non-stop schedule of 80 performances across Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, America and Europe.

With a long period of free time ahead of him in 2016, the singer says he's looking forward to leading a normal life for a while.

"Right now I'm looking forward to some alone time to figure out who I am and what I want to be."

It's thought the foursome will perform at the Royal Variety Show at the end of this year to celebrate the release of their album Made In the AM, with another possible gig at The Brits in February before calling things a day.

Liam Payne is a single man, if the latest reports are to be believed.

The singer is said to have split from his girlfriend of two years Sophia Smith, with one source telling The Mirror he's "incredibly sad" but coping well.

"Liam and Sophia have split up. Liam is incredibly sad, but is going to keep busy," the insider said.

"He really hopes that everybody will respect both his and Sophia's privacy and stop speculating."

Though neither party have officially confirmed a break-up, Liam did seem downcast on social media over the weekend.

"I love how music is always there for you when you need it most x," he wrote, leading fans to speculate something was not right.

If the break-up rumours are indeed true, it'll be the third One Direction split in under a year.

Louis Tomlinson, who is soon to welcome a child with stylist Briana Jungwirth, parted ways with Eleanor Calder in March after four years together.

And after quitting the One Direction tour (and later the band itself) for crisis talks earlier this year, Zayn Malik called off his engagement to Perrie Edwards in August.

Liam has always appeared totally smitten with Sophia, often taking to social media to tell fans how much he missed her while away on tour.

But with an indefinite hiatus on the way for the One Direction lads, it seems he might be ready to take some time to himself for a while.

Although Liam Payne was hit with a nasty illness (or rumoured meltdown) last week and cancelled one of the bands Belfast gigs, it seems the singer is already looking toward the One Direction split next year.

The boyband star has released a song without the help of Harry, Niall, and Louis this week as he penned a track with co-writer Jamie Scott for Irish boyband Hometown.

The Night We Met is only available for pre-order and streaming in Ireland but there are some pretty heart-wrenching lyrics behind the song: "I know when your heart's aching / It’s like you’re in glass breaking / and I just wanna look at you / the way I did on the night we met."

Fans are already wondering why Liam didn't include the track as a One Direction song on their new album Made in the A.M., but Harry's already said that the whole group is the proudest they've ever been of an album so chances are Liam wrote the song after 1D's new album was finished.

The mega-famous boyband left thousands of fans heartbroken on Tuesday evening when they backed-out of a high-profile concert at the last minute.

Due to take to the stage at the SSE Arena in Belfast as part of their On The Road Again tour, just 30minutes prior to One Direction's scheduled performance waiting spectators were told via a representative that the gig had been cancelled.

Although at the time an official statement from their management said that Liam Payne was ill, further details of his mystery condition are now emerging… and it seems that the 22-year-old suffered from a 'backstage meltdown'.

"The pressures of fame and being on the road for two years have made Liam ill," a source told The Sun.

“He was devastated about letting everyone down, especially the fans, but he wasn’t physically able to get on stage. He had a complete meltdown.”

The source added that it had been "brewing" for a while and the uncertainty of his future with the band's impending hiatus hadn’t helped matters.

One Direction have now committed to performing an extra Belfast date tomorrow evening for the fans they left disappointed on Tuesday.

Liam himself took to Twitter to confirm that he is "feeling much better now". He added: "I really can't wait to perform and make it up to everyone later."

Fans were left devastated last night when One Direction cancelled their scheduled On The Road Again tour performance in Belfast.

And with tickets for two more concerts – tonight and tomorrow night – already sold-out, understandably thousands of attendees have been worried that they too would miss out on the show.

However, Aiken Promotions has now said that those WILL go ahead as planned. Better still, anyone who missed out on last night's gig will be able to attend a rescheduled concert this Friday.

"Once again we apologise for the cancellation of last night’s One Direction show," the statement began.

"We thank everyone for their understanding and their good wishes to Liam.

"Tuesday’s concert has been rescheduled for this Friday 23rd October. All tickets from last night's postponed concert will be valid for Friday.

"For anyone not able to attend the rescheduled show on Friday, please contact point of purchase for detail of how to obtain a refund."

With the band going on an extended break from next spring, their three Belfast gigs had been very much eagerly anticipated.

However, Northern Irish fans – as well as those who had travelled from around the island to the SSE Arena – were left hugely disappointed when the lads cancelled at the last minute.

A statement read out to the largely irate crowd said that Liam Payne had fallen ill and was unable to perform. Disappointingly, none of the band appeared in front of their fans, though Harry, Louis and Niall did take to Twitter later in the evening.

Both Mr Styles and Mr Horan stated that "these things happen," while Mr Tomlinson said the situation was "out of our control".

An online official comment from the band's management last night explained: "Unfortunately One Direction have had to cancel tonight's concert in Belfast.

"Liam has been taken suddenly ill, and the concert will sadly not be taking place. Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets and there will be a further statement tomorrow.

"The band apologise to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible."

Hundreds of young fans were left devastated tonight after One Direction cancelled their first Belfast concert at the last minute.

The group were due to perform at the SSE Arena this evening after three sold-out nights at Dublin's 3Arena, but had to pull out just minutes beforehand.

Support act Jamie Lawson had just finished playing when the announcement was made around 9pm.

"Unfortunately One Direction have had to cancel tonight's concert in Belfast," a statement from Aiken Promotions read.

"Liam has been taken suddenly ill, and the concert will sadly not be taking place."

Niall, Harry and Louis all took to social media tonight to apologise to fans for the unforeseen cancellation:

There is no news yet on whether Wednesday and Thursday's gigs will go ahead.

For now, tonight's attendees have been asked to "hold on to their tickets" with a further statement due tomorrow.

One concertgoer, father Michael Green, said he was "disgusted" at the way fans had been treated.

He told BBC that he and his six-year-old daughter had to walk past "hundreds and hundreds" of weeping women and children to exit the venue.

The news broke back in July: Louis Tomlinson was expecting his first child.

The mother-to-be is 23-year-old LA-based stylist Briana Jungwirth – and although the duo are no longer in a relationship, both were said to be overjoyed as the prospect of impending parenthood.

Still, since the pregnancy was made public, countless fans have argued that the whole thing is entirely FAKE – construed to cover-up Louis's relationship with bandmate Harry Styles.

And while One Direction must have to take daily gossip in their stride – it seems this particular rumour has proved rather more unsettling.

In fact, Liam Payne has now publicly spoken of his anger relating to the matter.

“He’s very happy about becoming a dad.

"But the funny thing is, there are some people out there who think that Louis getting Briana pregnant is fake,” the One Directioner acknowledged to Attitude magazine during a recent interview.

"And that’s the sort of sh** that gets to me.

"But you have to hold your tongue and that’s fine. I mean, it’s not really any of my business anyway.”

The baby will arrive early next year, and Louis is said to be looking for houses in the Kardashian-approved neighbourhood of Calabasas, where Briana's family live.

Although Louis and Briana were never officially a couple, they did enjoy several dates in May, just weeks after the singer broke up with his girlfriend of four years, Eleanor Calder.

Liam Payne is definitely hitting back at his critics in his newest photoshoot.

The One Direction star did a rare solo shoot for gay magazine Attitude, framing himself once and for all as an LGBT ally. The new issue comes out tomorrow, and will have not one but two collectible covers.

"I'm on the cover of the new issue of @AttitudeMag," the singer wrote on Twitter today, shortly before the covers were released.

"Can't wait for you all to see the shoot!"

Liam came under fire last month when comments he made during a One Direction concert led to allegations of homophobia on Twitter.

Speaking to the crowd during a gig in Columbus, Ohio, Liam mentioned a song which was "about trying to find that number one woman of your life," something he said only the men in the crowd would understand.

He was later forced to set the record straight, telling his 20.9m Twitter followers that he was "in no way shape or form homophobic" and that he had not meant to "offend people."

Last week Liam's bandmate Harry also made a gesture of support to the LGBT community, draping a Pride flag over his shoulders during a New York gig.

Harry has always been vocal in support of his gay fans, with positive results.

After he publicly recorded a message of support for London's Lesbian and Gay Switchboard, fans rallied to raise over €15,000 for the charity in honour of the singer's 21st birthday back in February.

Poor Niall Horan.

The boy band star admitted that he is 'the worst popstar that ever walked the planet', all because he doesn't like to do daring things.

Speaking to Top of the Pops magazine, the Mullingar native said, ''I'm not very daring, I'm all about a gentle game of golf. I'm actually quite boring and probably the worst pop star that ever walked the planet.''

Niall, who will be going on an extended hiatus with the rest of the boyband next year revealed that he really won't be getting up to anything wild while the band are on a break.

Harry Styles also said in the magazine that he is equally as boring.

''I'm really not adventurous. Sitting down with a cup of tea is what gets my heart pounding.''

That's real rockstar behaviour lads!

In contrast, Liam and Louis are the daredevils of One Direction when they admitted they like to try new and exciting things.

Liam said, ''I like to think I'm a bit of a daredevil at heart – Louis and I jumped off a tower in Las Vegas, it was really scary.''

Whatever floats your boat!
