Sweet potatoes are a total kitchen staple for most of us, but did you know a little creative thinking when slicing your next yam will guarantee you a place in your dog's good books for life?!

As any dog owner will know, your pooch is ALL about the chewing.

From chowing down on your favourite shoes to gnawing on the straps of your handbag, those dogs of ours have a serious issue when it comes to keeping their jaws busy, but your accessories no longer have to suffer.

Spotted on Little Things this week, this sweet potato remedy for your dog's endless chewing is exactly what you (and they) have been looking for.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Slice off the pointed ends of the sweet potato and then slice the potato lengthwise into about 1/2 inch slices

2. Lay the slices onto a baking sheet.

3. Bake for 3 hours at 250 °F.

4. Remove from oven and let cool thoroughly before giving you dog an absolute field day.

A deflated air mattress, a bandy old camping chair and a sun lounger which has seen better days is not the key to the perfect summer chill-out session which is why we're falling all over ourselves after clapping eyes on the LayBag.

We’ve all experienced those moments where we think we might have just encountered the person who could have a profound impact on our life only to realise we’re never likely to see them again.

A fleeting glance on the morning commute, a snatched conversation after a night out or a lingering look across a crowded chipper can have even the most rational of us imagining what could have been.

So, it’s no surprise that a Reddit upload which explored this particular issue has made such a massive impact on internet users all over the world.

Doing the major rounds on social media, some see the post as nothing more than a total buzzkill while others were reminded of their own experience of unrequited love.

"Oh look, the most depressing post I've ever seen has once again appeared to me late at night while I'm drinking," wrote one while another countered: "Reminds me of this girl I met on a 12 hour flight, we talked for 10 hours straight, she had a boyfriend so nothing came of it."

Ladies, we'll let you be the judge of this one.

Wearing the face off your significant other – or indeed a random stranger who's caught your eye – is often part and parcel of a night out, but it looks like one bar in Galway has had to get stern on its patrons when it comes to this little issue.

Much-loved Galway hotpsot, Róisín Dubh, has taken to Facebook to remind its customers that the bar is only for ordering drinks, and not an invitation to play tonsil tennis in front of the poor bar staff.

Uploading a snap of a handwritten sign which reads 'No shifting at the bar please – sound', the good folk behind the cosy Galway hangout added:"Wait until after you get your drinks, please."

Commenting on the status which has been liked hundreds of times since its upload on Saturday, one Facebook user wrote: "To our visitors, this means no sloppy kissing or pulling at the bar until you've swallowed."

That's it ladies, you've been warned.

Every woman knows what it’s like to stand in front of the mirror and feel uncomfortable with the image they get back.

But despite being a near universal experience, this type of unhappiness can feel extremely isolating and develop into an obsession if not dealt with effectively.

This scenario is portrayed perfectly by Irish YouTuber Jessica Spencer whose powerful new video “When Skinny Means Pretty” is doing the rounds online.

In the video, film student Jessica describes the moment the seven year struggle with her weight began and how ever since she has felt like she is falling as she waits for her anxiety end.

She says: “I remember when I was 14 I was told I was too fat.  And suddenly, my whole perception of myself was destroyed.”

“Every time I leave the house or I talk to someone new it’s just like falling.”

“[My mind] tells me that the people who see me won’t like me.  They may not know me but who cares ‘cause I’ve fat thighs and messy hair and a tummy that looks like jelly when I walk.”

“So, how could they like me?  Do they not see what I see?”

The 21-year-old – who runs the blog jeesiblah.com – goes on to explain how she began to obsess over food and restrict her calorie intake in a bid to get the approval of others.

"So then I swapped eating for dancing and dancing for fainting.”

“All I consumed were lies and diet plans on how to become thin and it tasted fantastic, finally getting validation.”

“[I thought] this will be worth it when other people like me.  Skinny means pretty.  I promised myself, I will love me when I look like somebody worthy of love.”

The worst part of our morning is waking up to the illusion of popularity with dozens of notifications on our phones only to realise they’re all emails.

And not just general emails – emails from sites that we didn’t even know we had subscribed to…because that pesky box gets us every time.

You know the one, right? The tiny little box that is invisible to anyone who doesn’t have a magnifying glass.

The tiny box that says ‘click me if you don’t want to be forever plagued by useless information about our latest offer’.

The tiny box that says ‘I will fool you into thinking you’re important when really I just want to tell you about this competition we’re running’.

The tiny box that says how easy it is to sign up but it will take an hour of your time, photo identification and a blood sample to unsubscribe.

We’ve accumulated so many of these emails that we dread the thought of even trying to sort it all out…until we found this life-changing website.

While life-changing might sound a little extreme to you right now, just you wait until you see how clutter-free your emails will soon become.

Wait until you can get a full night’s sleep without the persistent buzzing from your emails.

Wait until you will only be receiving emails you actually want to.

Unroll.me is up there with our all-time favourite online discoveries including the google doodle and babies tasting lemons for the first time on YouTube.

By simply entering your email address you can see the full list of all those sneaky websites that have your information.

And then with a sense of sheer satisfaction and freedom you can simply click ‘unsubscribe’.

Goodbye annoying emails, hello full nights sleep!

While retail therapy is definitely up there as one of our favourite pastimes, there are times when we have arrived home from a shopping spree feeling more stressed than we ever thought possible.

Form crowded fitting rooms to mile-long queues, sometimes the search for a new dress can be more effort than it's actually worth.

Thankfully, the good folk at Zara have realised that we need a bit of a helping hand in this department, and have decided to introduce a few features which will make the day of any regular shopper.

According to Refinery 29, the store plans to kit out their fitting rooms with touch screens meaning that the awkward half-dressed mooch back to the shop floor for another size will soon be a thing of the past.

Oh, and those queues that make you want to simply drop to your knees and howl?

They will be replaced by a collection of self-service tills which means if the person in front of you really DOES want to shoot the breeze with the shop assistant, they can still do so, but you don't have to suffer behind them for fifteen agonising minutes.

While the features have been introduced in various branches of the popular store, it may be some time before they reach the Emerald isle, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate, right?!

Ladies, it's definitely a step in the right direction!

Not too long ago, the internet went crazy for mermaid blankets which let you get your chill on while channelling your inner Ariel, but it looks like things have officially gone up a notch.

Progressing from pro-level flake to pro-level fitness, innumerable women are participating in swimming sessions which lets them realise their secret childhood dream.

That’s right gals; it’s now acceptable to don a mermaid tail and slither into a pool all in the name of health and well-being.

While we all know that standard swimming in an incredible form of cardio exercise, this version actually ticks various other boxes.

By moving your body in unison under the water, you automatically engage muscles which can often go ignored during standard work-out sessions in the local gym.

It seems legs, bums and tums are really put through the ringer as you plot your revenge against that oul wench Ursula.

Ladies? We're sold.

Second-in-line to the British throne, Prince William, has made history this week after becoming the first member of the royal family to be photographed for the cover of a gay magazine.

The 33-year-old royal, who posed for the cover of Attitude magazine, was approached by the magazine's editor after he saw the work William and Kate had put into raising awareness of bullying and mental health.

Commenting on his decision to include the royal in the Jude edition of the magazine, Matthew Todd said: "I wrote to the Duke of Cambridge after writing about the realisation LGBT people can suffer higher levels of mental health problems and a growing awareness this is caused by experiences at school."

"Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry have been focusing on mental health issues in that last year and I think they realised that there this is a significant problem with LGBT-phobic bullying in schools which needs to be addressed," he added.

According to The Independent, Prince William invited nine members of the LGBT community to Kensington Palace in order to get an insight into their personal experiences.

And earlier today, Kensington Palace highlighted Prince WIlliam's participation in the upcoming issue, tweeting: "The Duke of Cambridge is on the cover of the next issue of@AttitudeMag speaking out against bullying."

Matthew Todd insists Prince William's approach to the issue is of the utmost importance, saying: "The highest institution of the country, the royal king, is saying it’s not suitable to bully someone because of their sexuality."

The magazine hits the shelves on June 22.
