Givenchy are bringing out a limited edition Le Rouge lipstick, which will be encased in crocodile leather, and it’ll cost you $300!

The classic red shade is called Le Rouge shade 306, Carmin Escarpin, and apparently they’re only producing 3,000 of these super expensive lipsticks, which is just as well because we can’t imagine too many people will be forking out a month’s rent for a bit of lippy.

We wonder though, if it’s that expensive, will it stay on all night? Could this be ‘the one’?

Still, even if it stayed on for a week, we don’t know if we could justify such a big spend on something so small.

We might give Louboutin’s $50 nail polish a go though, if we found some cash lying around (as unlikely as that may be). We can kind of see the connection between Louboutin and nail polish too, as when he first started making shoes, he would paint the bottom of them in red polish, so at least there you’re getting an interesting fact as well as a pretty nails!

We think it’s safe to say, we won’t be one of the 3,000 sporting Carmin Escarpin lips this autumn!

Lipstick is a beauty essential that can either make or break an outfit. However, if you stick with these rules you’ll always have the perfect pout.

Exfoliate
Make sure you exfoliate your lips just like you would your skin. In circular movements, rub a soft toothbrush on your lips for a couple of minutes. Finish by applying a lip balm to moisturise.

Use primer
Primer is not just for under your foundation. In fact, by applying a little on your lips, you will help your lipstick stay in place a little longer.

Lipliner
When going for a lipliner, make sure it compliments your lipstick and is not too obvious.

Work your cupid’s bow
Right in the middle of your top lip is your cupid’s bow. After applying your lipstick, dab a little clear lip gloss on it or highlighter just above it.

Take it off
Never go to bed with your lipstick still on. It doesn’t help the delicate skin on your lips and your pillowcases will be better for it.

It would appear that the rise of the nude lip is here once again.

For the first time in three years, nude and natural coloured lipsticks are outselling red shaded lipsticks.

Debenhams have reported a 62% rise in the sales of natural, softer shades of recent.

But is there a bigger picture to this story than simply a beauty trend?

Studies show that during a recession, shades of red lipstick sell far more than nude, and the opposite applies when there is a more favourable economic climate.

This “lipstick index” (named in 2001) was first realised during the Depression of the 1930s and seems to have been proved a stable point since then!

Many celebrities chose nude shades for this year’s award season such as Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock.

You might think you’re choosing a certain shade of lipstick to co-ordinate it with your outfit, but your choice of lipstick has more to do with your personality than it does with your clothes – for the most part anyway.

Bright and Red
If you find yourself always going for red shades it means you’re a passionate gal who isn’t afraid to draw attention to your lips.

Black
As dark as night, women who like black lipstick are generally less approachable. People who don’t know you might even find you intimidating.

Clear and nude
You’re a confident gal with a cool and calm personality. With nude lovers, what you see is what you get.

Feeling pink
Pink lovers are usually sweet and have a kind heart.

Brown and mauves
If you’re a fan of deep mauves and browns, it means you like to take a slightly different path. You’re also no stranger to adventures.

L.A beauty brand Wet n Wild has finally crossed the Atlantic and found a new home on Irish shelves.

With Fergie as a global ambassador and a celeb following that includes Rachel Bilson, Mila Kunis and Minka Kelly, we were very excited to hear we’d have constant access to this exciting range of budget-friendly make-up.

We put our beauty writer, Odette, on the case to test some of Wet n Wild’s best loved products and here’s what she thought:

CoverAll cream foundation
This will have you covered all day (and all night if you need it to!). I applied it first with my fingertips and then buffed into the skin with a brush. The result was a perfectly smooth, matte and airbrushed-like finish. This foundation covers a myriad of sins with ease and gives medium-to-full coverage, leaning more towards full coverage, in my opinion. It would be best suited for normal to oily skin types, and will keep shiny skin at bay!

MegaSlicks balm stains
This glides over your lips like a dream and leaves them soft, plumped and moisturised. The shade I used was E128, which is a lovely soft, pearly pink colour with a subtle gold iridescence. This would be a great everyday lip stain, giving you a hint of colour and shine. This stain sits beautifully on your lips and won’t leave them feeling dry or cracked.

MegaLast lip colour
Once this lipstick is in place, it’s not moving. It’s a long-wearing (4 hour) lip colour that gives your lips the “wow factor”. I tried Sugar Plum Fairy, which is a beautiful deep plum colour with purple-red undertones – perfect for a dramatic night time lip. Although I loved the colour, the formula was a little drying, so a lip gloss or lip balm over top is a must.

There’s nothing worse than seeing someone desperately fail at pulling off  Marilyn Monroe’s famous ‘red lip’. In fact, dry and cracked lips look terribly under any lip color, not just red.

Here are a few guidelines to follow for the perfect lipstick – read them, treasure them and pass them on to your mates.

  • Always exfoliate your lips before applying makeup. It will get rid of any dead skin lying on the surface.
  • Before lipstick comes lip balm. It will keep your lips soft and moistened under your lipstick.
  • Remember to fill your lips with lip liner before you apply your lipstick. This will make the color last longer.
  • Line your lips to give them some definition.
  • Apply your lipstick with a lip brush to let the color really get into your lips.
  • For a non-surgical lip augmentation, apply a bit of highlighter to your cupids bow. This will give you a sexy pout.
  • Avoid getting lipstick on your teeth by poking a (clean) finger into your mouth.
  • Use cotton bud to clean up around the edges of your lips.
  • Finish up with translucent powder so that the lip color lasts longer.

And most important, remember to smile.
