September 12 2012 completely changed the landscape of online dating, when a pair of entrepreneurs launched an app which would connect millions upon millions of potential couples.

Facilitating hook-ups, true love, long-term relationships and the occasional unsolicited WhatsApp dick pic, the app revolutionised the prior preconceptions people had about dating online.

Tinder brought online dating right to our phones, making it more accessible and user-friendly for the millennial generation – and on the 6th anniversary of the app's launch, we're reflecting on six tales of wow and woe when it comes to the app.

Terror:

'I've had more horror stories than good when it comes to Tinder, but the one that almost put me off for life (almost!) was when the guy in question met me outside the restaurant and quickly explained he'd "had one or two" in the pub across the road to calm the nerves. This was fine. Dutch courage, I get that. But the whole evening was quite bizarre. He kept insisting that I looked like I wasn't having a good time and would I prefer to just go home now? I thought, up to this point, that I had been very chatty and pleasant – I was doing most of the talking! Then our food arrived. He quickly said the food wasn't great (I had recommended the restaurant, so…opps?) and then proceeded to eat the spaghetti – with his fingers. No, I'm not kidding.

Then, dessert time. I politely say I won't have another but would he like a coffee? He says I'll just order another. No, not a drink. An entire bottle of wine. Which he drank. To himself. He stumbled out the door and down the stairs (I don't know how we both didn't topple down and kill ourselves) and to the bus stop, while I wearily went to get a taxi and thought, 'Never Again.' – Anonymous

'As a single-mum taking on the dating scene, I don’t have much time to waste. Friends gave me a gentle nudge to dip my toe back into the water by trying online dating – let the hunger games begin. First off, 90 percent of men, once they found out that I birthed a child, disappeared. Secondly, I was very selective with who I chose to go on a date with, as organising a babysitter (thanks mum), and going out – is very much a luxury for me, so I wanted to make sure I would have a good night. Whilst I did have some success with it and met one incredible guy, we all know you’re here for the ugly – so let’s cut straight to it. I get asked to drinks by what seems like a relatively nice guy, we had spoken for a while and I got those good vibes.

However, the day of the date, I find his Instagram – cue 10,000 shots of him topless – okay, we get it – you’ve got abs to die for. My gut was a little worried about my find, but my brain talked myself around in still going for a scoop (BAD CHOICE). When I finally meet ab guy; the funny, charming and talkative guy online, had nothing to say for himself. I am usually quite talkative and am comfortable around people, but his silence threw me entirely – out came my word vomit and here commenced the digging of the grave for this date. I got more and more nervous to WHY ON EARTH this guy wasn’t saying a word, despite asking him a million questions. – Was it nerves? Shyness? Or was it me? After four hours straight of talking myself into several holes; he announced he was leaving. – Probably one of 30 words he said all night. – THANK THE LORD. BUT WAIT: He INSISTED on walking me to the Luas and thatten-minutee wait for the tram was torture. It’s fair to say we never spoke again, but the moral of the story is to always find their Instagram first and always pick coffee, never a drink for a first date. – That way you don’t waste as much time and you can make a faster escape. The strong and silent type might be for some, but this was unbearable.' – Sorcha

'Tinder is great for the old ego boost but trying to get an actual IRL date locked in was harder than trying to choose a random movie to watch on Netflix. Too many choices involved and no one willing to make any kind of commitment. This date was different though. He was Brazilian and new to Ireland, and new to Tinder for that matter, so before he could know any better I suggested we meet for a drink and he suggested ‘Tomorrow?’ Sold.

The next night dressed in Penneys best, I found myself in JT Pims (a great first Tinder date bar) waiting for my potench new Latino lover to arrive. He walked in beaming from ear to ear, enveloped me in a bear hug and offered me a drink before legging it to the bar. I settled into my seat excited for what I hoped would be hours of fun and flirting.

Two hours later I was making my excuses to leave, but not before he told me that his heart was melting for me, he wanted us to travel around Ireland together, and that he could see himself falling in love with me. He bought me a rose and kissed my hands all over and up my arm and told me I was the most amazing woman he had ever met. ‘Um, I’ve got to go now’ I said edging towards the door, worried that at any moment he would propose or cling to my feet like in some over the top Disney movie. By the time I got home he had liked every single one of my Insta pics dating back five years and had sent me five messages trying to lock in another date. Block. Unmatch. Thanks but no thanks. Back to the drawing board….' – Ariana

True Love:

'Despite having very little faith in dating apps, I met my last boyfriend on Tinder. Well, not strictly speaking. I moved in to a new apartment with my best friend, and to celebrate, we decided to throw a housewarming party and invite everyone in the building. I knocked on the door of the girl who lived directly below us, and she agreed to attend our little soiree, so long as she could bring her boyfriend.

By the time she and her man arrived, we were all already half cut, and while I thought her beau was cute I paid him little attention knowing he was spoken for, instead investing my time in the makeshift karaoke station we had set up (aka, an open laptop perched on the kitchen counter with lyrics videos playing on YouTube, using a hairbrush and a wooden spoon as mics). We had a quick, polite conversation on the balcony having a cigarette, and that was it – I promptly forgot about him after waking up the next morning with a pounding head and no voice from screeching The Kooks songs all evening.

A few days later I was on Tinder swiping away, and got a message – 'Hey Sarah, how have you been keeping?' After a bit of confusion over the messages' familiarity, I quickly realised who it was and immediately had a crisis of conscious after he asked me for a coffee, wondering was I about to embark on a passionate, ill-fated affair with my downstairs neighbour's boyfriend. However, we went for that coffee, he informed me that they had broken up the night of the party after I presumably seduced him with my tone-deaf rendition of The Darkness'  I Believe In A Thing Called Love, and we dated for two years. Without happening upon me on Tinder, he never would have found me as he only knew my first name. We didn't work out, but I do have Tinder to thank for connecting me with my favourite ex-boyfriend.' – Sarah

'Okay, so I moved across the world to study in the magical, Emerald Isle. But I swear my only focus was on studying and travel. There was no room in my life for a man. At least that’s what I told myself. But after a few weeks of loneliness and some late night chats with my roommate, I decided to give the Tinder app a try – for the fun of it. It was a good compromise. I told myself to go on some dates but not have to make a commitment I’d leave behind when I returned home at the end of the year. Then one day, a guy I had matched with sent me a joke out of the blue. Curious for the punchline, I messaged him back and found myself in bits at his reply. If you know me, you know that I love a good cheesy joke. Im talking pure dad-joke material. They’re my favourite. And this total goofball was full of them.

It went on like that for weeks, I think. I found myself looking forward to his texts. This guy, mind you, was shown in those carnival-sized sunglasses and a feathery boa in his profile picture. Fast forward, to a night out in town when we were talking longer than usual and discovered we were both in town at pubs right beside each other. He asked if I wanted to meet up and I agreed, after a few beers in me.'

My heart thumping to the blaring, cringe music in Dicey’s I found him looking for me. And he was wayyy hotter than that dorky picture on Tinder. He claimed Americans couldn't drink more than the Irish, and that was it. My competitive nature took over as I proved him wrong. (We still argue to this day over which one of us won). We spent all night together, talking and laughing amidst the crazy chaos in the club. And we’ve been inseparable ever since, surviving long distance and all the other stuff that came our way for two and a half years. Who knew Tinder was the modern-day Cupid?' – Anonymous

'My first Tinder date was the best one I ever had. It was with the Dutch courage of several few whiskeys in my local that I sent the simple, ''we should meet for a drink'' before he had even messaged me. After my initial disappointment that he wasn't tall, we spent the following four hours talking, drinking, flirting, smoking – it pretty much went by in a haze of tipsy splendour.

What followed were a few months of being inseparable, but my J1 and summer in Boston were looming so we decided to split. It was a lot harder than I thought and after a goodbye letter/email/Skype, I remember sitting in a cafe down the road from my new apartment in Boston, trying to catch the shitty rays of Wifi and crying noisily into my phone to him.  We didn't make it, but I'm smiling even now as I'm writing this because it was a happy time.

Tinder, you might seem like you're full of arseholes but occasionally, after a few whiskeys and a risky message, you come up with a good one.' – Aoife

Pink is one of those celebrities that have always been real.

The 38-year-old is currently on a world tour with her Beautiful Trauma album and who has she taken along with her for the ride?

Her two gorgeous children, 7-year-old daughter Willow and 1-year-old son Jameson.

As well as her husband, professional motocoss racer Carey Hart.

Pink has been keeping fans updated about the tour as well as how much her kids are enjoying it yet it was her spouse who gave us a glimpse into the rather more relatable side of parenting young children.

The picture showed Carey attempting to peacefully use the bathroom but being thwarted by toddler Jameson sitting by his feet and his older daughter Willow peeping around the corner.

Can parents ever get a minute of peace?!

The couple, who have been together since 2001 and married since 2006, have been open about the on-off nature of their relationship in the past, even discussing how they sought marriage counselling.

Walking into the venue today.

A post shared by P!NK (@pink) on

Just like their marriage, parenting has been a topic that Pink has candidly spoken about.

She recently uploaded a photo of Willow and herself, and asked her followers how they would advise her in juggling two kids.

She wrote, ''the older she gets the less clear I am on how to guide her. Do I take the raw honest tough way? Do I cuddle her and tell her to not to worry? Do I let her be sassy knowing I want her to be strong and need her to be strong to survive in this world?''

One person said, ''you will only find out along the way. You are a beautiful person. Keep it real.''

We have no doubt that Pink will definitely continue to do that.

There are few things we truly truly love in this world, but our beds are up there on the list along with our mammies and our dogs.

Some of us are just emotionally attached to our leabas, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Here's a few home truths that us bed lovers can totally relate to:

8. There is nothing you can't do in bed.

And no, we don't mean that in a sexual way (or maybe we do, who knows?)

What we actually mean is, you could write a thesis, cook a four-course meal and raise your first born all from the comfort of your own bed if you had the opportunity.

7. Sometimes you like your bed more than the people you live with.

On that never-ending bus commute home from work, we're more likely to think longingly of seeing our comfy beds than seeing our parents/boyfriends/house mates.

Sorry, not sorry.

6. Seeing your bed at the end of a long day brings a sense of euphoric joy.

We can only imagine that the feeling we get when we lay down on our beds is the feeling that most people have on their wedding days, no?

5. You spend an embarrassing amount of money on your bed.

Every time Penneys gets a new homeware collection, you're straight in there getting some new matching duvet sets, fluffy throws and decorative cushions.

Because it's important to invest in the things you love, right?

4. Going to bed early is the bomb.com

You cannot beat the feeling of snuggling up early in bed, knowing that you have the opportunity to get a good snooze or even spend an extra hour scrolling mindlessly through Instagram before hitting the hay.

Either way, you get to spend more time in leaba land so it's a win-win.

3. Sometimes, you don't even want to go to sleep because then your time in bed will be over

Seriously, sometimes we dread the gentle lull of sleep because we know that then it will be all too soon time to wake up.

It's a conflicting glass case of emotion.

2. Getting up in the morning… we can't even.

Leaving the toasty burrito of blankets that is bed in the mornings is torture.

If we could wear our duvets for the day, we would.  Don't try us.

1. Waking up early on a Sunday morning…

…but lazing in bed for hours with tea, a book, the radio or a good movie is what we can only imagine heaven to be like.

Seriously, don't even try to move us from our blanket nest.

She wore an exquisite Elie Saab Couture gown and bespoke Christian Dior shoes.

There was strewn lights and a redwood forest and we are simply in awe of Hilary Swank's stunningly beautiful Californian wedding.

The Academy-Award winning actor tied the knot with her partner of two years, social venture entrepreneur Philip Schneider in the dream setting.

The 44-year-old bride spoke about her romantic day to Vogue, gushing, “it was timeless. There is just no other way to describe it.''

“I was overwhelmed with such gratitude and thanks to be marrying the man of my dreams and to see all the people we love together in the middle of such a profound setting. It was truly a dream come true.”

Hilary's dad walked her down the aisle, only a few years after he was recovering from a lung transplant.

Her wedding dress was – wait for it – made of 25 meters of Chantilly lace, eight meters of silk chiffon, and six meters of organza silk – and it took 150 hours to create.

OMG, is all we have to say to that.

“I’ve loved Elie Saab for years and was thrilled to have him design my dress,” Hilary says.

“I wanted something romantic that felt as timeless as the redwood grove where we were to be married, and he delivered – designing something that far surpassed my greatest expectations. It was everything I imagined and more.”

The ethereal theme continued throughout the day, beginning with the couple marrying beneath a family of 800-year-old trees, and carrying on to the reception, which took place in a 100-year-old rustic barn, illuminated with hundreds of globe string lights.

Could this day get any more dreamy?

It seems so, as after the reception, the newly married pair had a surprise for their guests.

They performed a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers–style tap dance choreographed to Moby’s In My Heart.

“I doubt we completely pulled off the modern-day version of Fred and Ginger, but we had fun, and our family and friends seemed to enjoy it.''

Congratulations to the gorgeous couple – we wish them a lifetime of happiness together.

As Robin's birthday is in March, it suggests that she is almost three months along.

The 41-year-old singer ahs been in a relationship with April since 2015; a few months after he split from his ex-wife Paula Patton, whom he was with for 21 years and has one child, eight-year-old Julian.

Vogue Williams has finally given us a look at her romantic nuptials to Spencer Matthews in this week's Hello! magazine.

The couple tied the knot in a stunning ceremony in Scotland two moths ago and have now revealed exactly what happened on their big day.

The pair, who have been together since the early 2017, exchanged vows on the banks of the loch on Spenny's family’s 30,000-acre estate in June.

The simple and intimate outdoor ceremony was attended by Spencer's brother James and his wife Pippa Middleton.

Spencer dished to the magazine, "it has gone down by many as the best wedding they’ve ever been to.''

''It was a family affair in the middle of nowhere and it felt very secluded. We were surrounded by the people we love."

The 32-year-old bride, who was six months pregnant on the day, dressed her baby bump beautifully in an exquisite Paul Costello gown.

Spencer’s half-sister Nina Mackie, his brother-in-law James Middleton, and Vogue’s sister Amber, who was also maid of honour all gave readings during the ceremony.

"At the time it was so wonderful but almost dreamlike. It took a little while to sink in, but I certainly feel married, settled, and happy," said 30-year-old Spencer.

"Everything has fallen into place. As we’ve said before we are best friends, we love being together, so it does feel just perfect. We’re delighted. I can’t imagine life without Vogue at this point. People say, what’s changed? What’s different? But it’s just part of growing up, meeting your soul mate and moving on with life."

The couple are gearing up to welcome their first child in a few weeks.

Spencer has previously gushed that he and Vogue want a brood of four.

“Vogue and I want four kids so I think it’s nice for the eldest to be a boy, especially if our next is a girl. I like the idea of my daughter having an older brother to look out for her, especially if we still live in London and she wants someone to party with,” he said.

Congrats guys – we think Vogue made a beautiful bride.

We can all admit we’ve daydreamed about our dream proposal at some point in our lives. Everyone has their own idea of their perfect proposal whether it’s a simple, subtle proposal whilst strolling along the beach, or an elaborate affair on top of the Eiffel tower in Paris.

One Gilmore Girls fan’s wish came true when her boyfriend popped the question in none other than Stars Hollow.

The quaint fictional town is the sweetest location for a proposal. The small-town charm alone would leave your heart feeling so warm and mushy.

The newly engaged Molly Larimer gushed about the moment her partner Sebastian popped the question.

She posted a video of the special moment on Twitter and her beau picked the greatest spot in all of Stars Hollow to ask Molly to be his wife- the famous gazebo.

Molly opened up about the proposal on Twitter: “So I didn’t even mention it but Gilmore Girls has always been one of my favorite shows and Sebastian planned the perfect proposal and actually proposed in the actual Stars Hollow gazebo!”

She added: “I’m so lucky and so happy to spend forever with him #wbtourhollywood #GilmoreGirls”

There are so many iconic spots in Stars Hollow, like Luke’s Diner, the Dragonfly Inn, Taylor’s Olde Fashion Soda Shoppe and Kim’s Antiques, but there is no better place to ask the love of your life than that famous gazebo.

The gazebo was the place where some of the most heartfelt conversations took place in the show. And let’s not forget Lorelai and Luke’s famous picnic date from season two.

Huge congratulations to Molly and Sebastian. We hope your relationship lasts just as long as Richard and Emily's.

One of our faveceleb couples have just reached an impressive landmark in their relationship.

Taking to Instagram, Will Smith posted a cute picture of him and his wife Jada, captioned, ''I just realised… This year we’ve been together more than HALF OUR LIVES!''

Jada quipped back, ''can u believe it? A  whole lotta growth and miracles along the way. I'm proud of us."

The pair started dating way back in in '95 and have been married since New Year's Eve 1997. Cuuute.

They also have two kids together, 20-year-old Jaden and 17-year-old I-whip-my-hair-Willow.

The 49-year-old actor recently gave an interview about his marriage to TIDAL’s Rap Radar podcast where he let slip a few of his secrets to a happy marriage.

He said, “we don’t even say we’re married anymore. We refer to ourselves as life partners.''

“There’s no deal breakers. There’s nothing she could do – ever. Nothing that would break our relationship. She has my support till death, you know what I mean and it feels so good to get to that space where you’re not complaining, and worry, and demanding that a person be a certain thing,” he continued.

Wow, is all that we can say –  can we have that type of love plz?

He wasn't the only one opening up about the inner workings of their marriage.

Jada spoke on Sway in the Morning on SiriusXM’s Shade 45 a few weeks ago.

She explained, “here’s the thing about Will and I, it’s like, we are family, that’s never going down! It’s just not! Ever!”

“Because we are family –  take out all that whole marriage, relationship, crap –  at the end of the day, Will and I are family, I’m going to hold him down,” she added.

“It doesn't’t matter, all that relationship and what people think, ideas of a husband and a partner and all that, man, whatever, at the end of the day, that’s a man that can rely on me for the rest of his life, period.”

The comments on Will's post show how their fans are fully supporting their #relationshipgoalz life.

''You guys are a gorgeous and admirable couple….and family. Well done and thank you for being a beautiful and inspirational example '' one gushed.

Another wrote, ''it hasn't always been easy but you guys stuck together and figured it out.''

This just goes to show that being (alarmingly) open about how hard you work at your marriage can work wonders for the relationship.

Wishin' you guys another happy 20 years!

Right, so hear us out on this one.

Harry Styles is pretty famous, right?

He's young, good-looking and fairly recognisable wherever he goes.

So how could this 24-year-old have had a serious thing with a French-American model for twelve whole months and us not know anything about it?

More importantly, how did not one paparazzi nab more than one grainy, blurred photo of them leaving an apartment/with a jacket covering one of their heads while getting into a taxi?

I know that there are celeb couples who are extremely low-key.

They're rarely papped, they don't talk about them in interviews and you'd have to be Sherlcok f*cking Holmes to find a trace of their other half in their social media posts.

But is that what happened here?

Basically, the nub and gist of it all is that Hazza has apparently parted ways with his missus of a year, 28-year-old Camille Rowe.

The sketchy timeline of their relationship goes as follows: they started dating last July, she met his fam in December, and they reportedly rang in 2018 together on New Year's Eve. Hmmm.

A post shared by Camille Rowe -Bel (@fingermonkey) on

Look, I'm not saying it's a PR stunt (because, well, I can't hardly give Harry a ring and ask him, can I?) but it just seems a bit fishy tbh.

Celeb journo Dan Wooton broke the story for The Sun and he says that Harry, ''called time on their romance just a fortnight after he completed his 89-date world tour.''

That's literally all he revealed so we don't have many hard and fast snippets to piece together.

So, call me cynical but I just don't buy it.

Nevertheless, Harry, if you're reading this and ever need a shoulder to cry on, I probably (definitely) wouldn't say no.

Clearly, the Love Island babe has a thing for her own name.

Alexandra is a single lady after the drama with Dr Alex.

For anyone who hasn't caught up, Alex was more in love with a car than Alexandra on their date, and it was the beginning of the end for the couple.

Reportedly, love has come knocking again for Alexandra.

The beauty has been asked out by a former Love Islander and they already share something in common: their name.

In an after party to celebrate Jack and Dani's win, the stunner was seen with another Alex.

Alex Miller seemed keen to take Alexandra on a date – and it's not hard to understand why.

Speaking to The Sun Online, he said: "She's unbelievable, obviously. I thought that when she was in there, but what an absolute stunner."

When quizzed by the publication if anything romantic was to come from their encounter, he replied: "I literally met her five minutes ago, you need to give me a chance to take her out on a date."

Alexandra didn't dismiss the idea, but he may have his work cut out for him as she said: "It's going to take a bit of grafting.

"I don't want to put too much pressure on the situation. I'm known for doing that, It's going to have to come from you, I'm afraid."

A post shared by Alex Miller (@mralexmiller1990) on

Alex replied with an offer of a date, to which Alexandra said "maybe" and added that he may "slide into her DMs later."

Their exchange mightn't come as a surprise after Alexandra confessed on Love Island's Aftersun that she fancied the hunk.

We propose that Love Island sets them up on a date in the villa as we are already suffering from withdrawals.

We cannot come to terms with the fact it will be 2019 before we get more Love Island drama.

We cannot wait for the Love Island finale! It is only three days away, so in the meantime we have got the scoop on the amazing Dani Dyer.

Dani and her boyfriend Jack Fincham are among the top favourites to win the popular reality show.

Dani originally encountered opposition from her father, East Ender’s actor Danny Dyer, when revealing her role on Love Island.

But her mother claims that the family rapidly changed their mind when watching the actress on the show, according to an interview with Hello!

‘I'm impressed with her advice on the housemates so far. She is a great listener in the house. She isn't very judgemental but knows the difference between right and wrong,’ said Dani’s mum, Jo.

She is proud of her daughter and of her behaviour on the show thus far. ‘Our little girl hasn't put a foot wrong in our eyes,’ she said in her interview.

Dani’s mother also spoke about her daughter’s childhood and released photos to Hello! that are just adorable.

Jo said the actress was ‘born to entertain’, and her first time on camera was on Barney and Friends at just five-years-old. Yes, she was already a diva at five!

Her mother gently lifted her on stage in Florida after Dani’s ceaseless requests to join the sing-a-long.

Dani was her ‘easiest child’, Jo gushed, ‘she just sang and danced. Dani does that now, […] she will break out in a song relevant to what you're talking about."

Fans of the show seem to agree as they rave about Dani on social media. Many of them are rooting for her and Jack to win as well.

But we will just have to wait for the Love Island’s finale to find out.

The final show is this Monday, July 30th at 9pm, but to Dani’s mum, her daughter ‘has already won in our eyes.’

We are rooting for Dani and Jack! Stay tuned for more Love Island updates!
