Emily Parker was diagnosed with leukaemia back in June of last year. However, the 21-year-old wanted to help other sufferers to “bring normality back” by setting up her inspirational beauty blog, Emily Eva Alice.

The student set up her site after she searched the internet for tips for cancer sufferers and found none.

Talking to the Huffington Post, she said: “I decided to set up my blog as I found different brands worked better when going through chemo. I found some shampoos and hair growth treatment worked far better than others and I wanted to share that.”

Emily documents losing her hair, its re-growth and her decision to wear a wig, saying: “I have my trusty wig for those days when I don’t want to think about what’s happened”

The newly qualified make-up artist does not simply write about the best skincare products to use during treatment or shampoos and conditioners to use while your hair grows back, she also talks about brush techniques, make-up inspirations and offers other handy tips.

If you weren’t born with perfect bone structure, make-up will become your new BFF. Contouring is the art of manipulating light to add depth to your face and body and is not as complicated as people make it out to be.

Here are our top tips on how to use the most effective structures:

Killer cheekbones:
Apply your highlighter powder or gel right on top of your cheekbones and blend it outwards right underneath the corner of your eye.

Soft jawline:
Blend a little bronzer right along your jawline just right underneath your jawbone. Bring the line right up to your ears and down to your throat. Now blend, blend, blend.

Collarbone pop:
Make a low cut outfit extra sexy by making your accentuating your collarbone.  Take a little highlighting shimmer powder and dust it right in top of your shoulders just at the collarbone.

Now all you need is a glass of champagne to rock it like a model.

Glasses can make you look sultry and dramatic – think secretaries peering over the frame. Unfortunately, it can be a little confusing when it comes to make-up – how much eyeshadow to apply, to use mascara or not to use mascara – fortunately for you, we have six great tips:

Eyeshadow
Stick with neutral colours – bright colours just don’t look as good behind glasses.

Lips
This is the best place to put your bright colours to work. Try a red lip for a dramatic look.

Mascara
Mascara is a must to really enhance your beautiful peepers. Don’t worry – it doesn’t stick against your glasses, ignore the haters.

Eyeliner
Those who have thicker framed eyeglasses show go with think eyeliner and thin frame wears should go a little lighter.

Blush
Blush it up to get a warm glow and to bring your look together.

Eyebrows
Make your eyebrows work for you – a high dramatic arch is perfect for those who wear glasses.

Having an oily face can be a pain, especially when your make-up doesn’t last longer than a couple of hours. Fortunately, we have found the secret to ensuring your make-up stays put and yes, we will share it with you – you can thank us later.

Wash your face with an oil-reducing cleanser

This will help to decrease the amount of oil on your face.

Use a primer

A primer will help to mattify your skin and will give your make-up something to cling to so it will stay on longer.

Choose an oil-free foundation

If you have oily skin you need to choose an oil-free foundation. Try to pick up one that contains silica as it will soak up excessive oil throughout the day.

Invest in a settling spray

After you have applied your make-up, spritz a little settling spray onto your face to ensure it stays put.

You’ll be shine-free all day!

Try these tips if you are heading out straight after your gym workout to avoid looking like a sweaty Betty.

Use a little water

Splash water onto your face and use a little alcohol-free toner to help reduce the redness in your face.

Tinted moisturiser

Foundation can be too heavy to put on your face after an intense workout so opt instead for a tinted moisturiser.

Concealer

If you need a little more coverage, invest in a light concealer and just dab it on where ever it is needed.

Lip gloss

Before leaving the gym, pop on a little gloss for effect.

Mascara

A little bit of mascara goes a long way. Use it sparingly to open up your eyes and finish off your look.

If anyone says anything nasty to you, just tell them that you did a 60 minute intense workout while they munched on biscuits. That’ll show ‘em!

Swedish model, Frida Gustavsson, has said that natural make-up is all about not using make-up at all.

The former Victoria’s Secret model, who is spokesmodel for Maybelline, claims the best way to achieve a natural glow is to know where you should and should not use foundation.

Talking to Grazia magazine, the 20-year-old, who has walked the catwalk for the likes of Valentino, Chanel and Alexander McQueen to name but a few, said: “No make-up make-up is as much about where you don’t put your cosmetics as where you do. I’ve learnt to apply my foundation to the centre of my face for the most natural look. As soon as you take it to your temples, jaw line and the sides of your cheeks, it becomes too done.”

However, when you have flawless skin like Frida, who is used to having her make-up done by professional make-up artists every day, you can dare to use your foundation sparingly.

Would you dare to bare?

Don’t drown out your stunning red hair by over doing it on the make-up. Stick to these five tips and you will have everyone pining after your ginger locks.

Eyeliner
Stay clear of harsh colours like black and instead opt for a lighter and more subtle brown eyeliner.

Eyeshadow
When it comes to eyeshadow, peaches and of course browns are your best friends. Use a plum shade for night-time antics. It is also perfect if you have green eyes as it will really make them pop. Think Emma Stone.

Embrace your freckles
If you have freckles it’s time to embrace them. Stick to a light foundation that will even out skin tone without covering up your sun kisses.

Blush
Avoid the Barbie pink colours and instead go for crimsons and deep tones; however, make sure you use it sparingly.

Mascara
Avoid using several coats – stick to a max two and go for a brown if you feel brave.

Blonde hair can be tricky when you are trying to get your make-up right – you don’t want to go for anything too over the top. Unfortunately, whether you are a natural or a not-so-natural blonde, some colours can make you look too harsh or washed out.

Foundation

Stick to light and natural everyday base. Choose a foundation with a golden undertone to warm up your skin

Blush

A soft pink blush is your best friend although coral colours are good for nights out

Mascara

If you are a natural blonde you will have lighter coloured eyelashes so avoid mascara that is too dark. Black mascara can be too harsh so stick to a medium or dark brown instead.

Eyeshadow

Pink or beige colours are perfect for during the day but glam it up with silver or grey for special occasions. Remember, less is more when it comes to eyeshadow.

Lipstick

A red lip looks amazing on blondes. Stick to a blue red colour if you are pale while sallow skinned ladies should go for a more orange based red. Try to avoid nude as it can make you look a little washed out.

Make-up is not that tricky but many (many!) ladies still manage to get it wrong.

Rather than piling any old colour onto your face, you should use a combination of subtle tones that match your colouring and enhance your beauty.

Foundation
Neutral beige is the colour to go for. Pick up one with a rose tint if you are prone to tired skin or one with a slight yellowish tinge to hide skin blotches.

Eye make-up
When using eye shadow, stick to browns and greys. If you have blue eyes go for greyish light purple hues or if you have green eyes pick a camel-beige or a mossy green.

Lip colour
Most brunettes can carry off the red lip with no problem so go as bright as you want. However, if you’re not brave enough to go for the bright red, stick to plum colours or brownish pinks.

Blusher
Rose shades look perfect on brunettes but stay clear of peach hues which can make you look older. A light bronzer also works but use it sparingly.

Don’t worry, we’ll do tips for blondes too!
