make-up

New and bizarre make-up trends are constantly popping up all over the internet, some good, some bad and some very, very ugly.

But there are definitely a few worth taking a look at as they could change your beauty routine forever. Coming straight from the celebs with their #flawless selfies, here's everything you need to know.

Baking
If you want gorgeously illuminated eyes like J-Lo this is the beauty hack for you. Begin by putting a blendable concealer on your T-zone and under your eyes, then pat a yellow-toned loose powder on top. Let it sit for about ten minutes, allowing your body's own natural heat to bake the products together. After the time is up, wipe away any excess powder and you're good to go!

Strobing
This technique is actually quite simple and a much easier method than Kim K's signature contouring. Strobing focuses on highlighting prominent points of your face without any bronzer or shading powder. All you need to do is get your favourite highlighter – the type doesn't matter – and blend the product over the high points of your cheek bones, the bridge of your nose and cupids bow. Be careful and use a light hand as you don't want to look like a shiny disco ball.

Cut – Crease Eye Shadow
Playing with the placement of your crease can really give you a more exaggerated look, so this method is great if you want to give your eyes an instant boost. Simply apply a base coat all over your eye lid, and use a liquid liner to draw a dramatic cat-eye wing on your lid. Next, with an angled brush and a neutral shadow colour, create a curve until you hit the edge of your liner. Blend it upwards and hey presto – completely dramatic eye make up in an instant!

Over Lining
We can all thank Kylie Jenner for this one! To get her look (without having to resort to lip fillers) all you have to do is use a natural dark lip liner to outline all over the crease of your lips. The next step is to get a lighter shade of lipstick and smack it on your pout. And that's it, plumper lips without any hassle!

How many times have you gone to work or college – sans make up – after a night on the tiles, only for people to come up and ask "are you okay, you look sick?"

It infuriates us all to say the least! However, it seems that some folk now WANT to look like they've had one too many.

Known as byojaku (sickly) make up and hugely popular in Japan, this particular trend aims to emulate the appearance of being ill.

And there we were for years covering up red, puffy and swollen eyes after a hard night out – when all this time it should have been something we embraced.

This rather unique trend has lately become so popular in Japan that models sporting the sickly look are even being featured on the cover of major glossy magazines.

What's more, tutorials on YouTube on how to perfect your byojaku make up skills have received more than 100,000 views.

The trend concentrates on heavy under-eye bags and redness, along with furrowed brows and pale skin. And the desired result is to appear fragile and doll-like – like you need looking after.

Here's how to achieve the trend (without downing half a bottle of vodka)…

  • Create pale skin by using a green-based concealer and foundation a few shades lighter than your natural skin tone.
  • Fill in your brows with a light brown pencil or eyebrow powder. Draw them straight to achieve the furrowed brow look.
  • Get pink or red lipstick or lip stain and lightly tap on to lips, cheeks and under your eyes.

Most of us gals strive to get the most from our makeup… and here at SHEmazing Towers, we have come across a quick and easy trick on how to make your eyes look bigger and brighter. Hurrah!

The secret is called "tightlining" and we've created the ultimate how-to guide to achieve the look…

Tightlining covers up the gap between your eyeliner and your lid which helps to open up your eyes and make them appear much bigger.

The first step in this process is to get a waterproof eyeliner. You can use any one that you're comfortable with but for best results we suggest you use a gel liner as it won't bleed or pull on your skin.

You have to use a waterproof eyeliner as you will be applying it to the wet part of your lid so if it runs you'll end up looking like The Joker… not such a sexy look.

The next step is to look down and with your finger gently pull your eyelid up and then draw on the upper waterline.

This method will take some practice so remember to stay calm and be as steady as you can. Also try not to blink as the eyeliner is drying.

DO NOT use an excessive amount of product or use too much force when applying it or else you will just end up with sore and stinging eyes. Ouch.

If you want an even bigger impact, release your lid and press another round of liner to your lash line. This step is optional but it's good for an evening-time or big event look.

To finish off your look, apply a few layers of mascara and BAM!… next level eye make up has been achieved!

There’s nothing worse than waking up the morning of a big day and checking your reflection to blown away by a particularly nasty red spot. We’re not exactly fans any other days of the week but it always seems to be the week of a wedding, or the day before a big first date when those pesky monsters rear their ugly heads.

It’s enough to make us get teary-eyed with frustration when we spend far too much of our time trying to cover up any blemishes we would rather not be sporting.

Here’s the thing, you can spend all the time concealing you want, but if you’re not using the proper colours, then it’s not going to help you out much.

The same beauty blogger who brought us tricks for nailing the epic ‘baking’ makeup trend has also dropped some serious knowledge on how to best use colour concealers for actually concealing blemishes.

Not saying the clown contouring trend isn’t fun, but sometimes we kind of just want to get rid of that weird spot on our chin.

First you need to get some orange and green concealers. Then you need to check out this handy colour wheel graphic.

Complementary colours, those that are on opposite sides of the wheel, cancel each other out when applied to the skin. So, if you have a red mark on your skin, you use green to help bring down the appearance of redness, and so on.

Heidi uses his theory in her video where she teaches is the magic of colour concealers and how to use them properly.

We can’t thank her enough, now, off to stock up on our colours we go!

“Let me just put on eyeliner and then we can leave- oh wait…”

Nope, no eyeliner for you today, or mascara, or blusher or concealer for that matter. The unthinkable has happened: You lost your makeup bag.

Commence complete meltdown. It happens, whether you’re a cosmetic junkie or you’re just out here trying to have a good time with a great contour, it can happen to you. There is nothing worse than the frantic scramble you do when you realise your beloved makeup bag is missing.

It can be an emotionally draining experience, we feel your pain.

First there's the panic:

Then there's accepting meaningless sympathies from your friends:

"Thanks Emily but you're NW25 and I'm NW30." Wtf Emily? Get it together gal.

So you try some quick DIY tricks, it works for internet people, right?

"BUT IT'S IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE WHERE IS MY SMOKY EYE PALETTE"

So you just have to admit defeat

You will get through this, we believe in you! Stay strong and hey, now you can re-stock your make-up collection, hurrah!

If you thought that wrapping your head around normal contouring was tricky, just wait until you see was this beauty blogger is up to.

BellaDeLune is responsible for introducing the concept of ‘clown contouring’ to the world of beauty. With bonus use of emojis.

She explains in her YouTube video that clown contouring became her way of fighting back against the people who were bullying her online.

“I cannot tell you how many times I have been called a clown and many other names and been hated on,” she explains in the video.

“I just did this to show you what a real payasa looks like.” Payasa is the Spanish word for clown.

Bella describes the technique as an extreme form of colour correction and contouring, and although it started as a joke, people quickly caught up with the trend.

Over the past week Instagram has been taken over with countless selfies displaying the incrediblely detailed clown-like contouring tricks.

While the before pictures look pretty out there and the colours are quite intense, the results are actually amazing.

Who knew a sugar skull could help your brows pop so much? It seems like a joke, but the fact is that people are ending up with amazing make up results after all that blending.

In her video, Bella says that she wouldn’t do this kind of dramatic make-up every day, but she does see how much fun it can be.

We’re kind of tempted to try it out, we just need some free time and a pretty big contouring palette. Take a look at the original video (that has almost 1.5 million views in less than a month) to see why this technique is taking over the internet.

With so many new make-up techniques and trends taking over the world, it can be seriously hard to keep up.

Baking and strobing seem to be the latest two crazes that beauty bloggers are raving about but you still just can’t beat contouring.

Make-up artist Nadia El Ferdaoussi from Sleek Make Up has revealed the three easy steps to contouring like a pro.

Know where you need to contour

The places that you usually want to highlight are the cheekbones, the cupids of the bow of your upper lift and the bridge of your nose. Use lighter shimmery shades on these parts to give a glow to the skin. Use darker, matte shades to the areas you want to sculpt, such as the hairline, under the chin and the lower side of your cheekbones.

Find a formula that suits you

The face form palette and face contour kit from Sleek Make Up have darker matte powders for contouring and lighter pearlescent shades for highlighting that can also be used on the eyes.

Blend, blend, blend

The secret to contouring is subtlety so it is vital that you blend correctly. Always build your colour and coverage slowly. Use small fluffy natural hair brushes for powders and synthetic fibres or fingers for creams. Always make sure that there are no obvious lines around the edges.

Contouring has had its time in the spotlight, and strobing is just getting in on the action, BUT, have you heard about baking your makeup yet?

If you’ve ever watched Ru-Paul’s Drag Race, you’ve probably heard, and seen, the fantastic results this makeup hack can have for your face.

If you want a flawless, crease free and long lasting makeup look, you need to get on board with this trick. Beauty bloggers on YouTube are starting to get in on the trend and provide the rest of us cosmetic novices with useful advice on how to nail this look.

It takes a little more time, but the results are worth it. Plus, Kim Kardashian’s favourite makeup guru is a fan so you know that this is legit the way to ensure your face is flawless all day and night.

Basically, the method involves applying your under eye concealer and blending with a damp sponge to avoid any creases. Then you apply more concealer, yes, it’s an awful lot on makeup, but the long lasting results are worth it.

Then you dust on your translucent powder, with your fluffy eye shadow brush of course. Now you’re ready for the baking part, and no, you don’t need an oven for this step, relax.

You use a wedge sponge to pack your powder over the concealer coated areas, generously, and leave it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Then get that fluffy brush back out and dust it off.

You are now baked to absolute perfection. Get ready to look red carpet flawless every day of the week; if you’re willing to set that alarm an extra 10 minutes early.

Take a look a more in-depth look at the ‘baking’ technique in this tutorial, sadly, no cupcakes are involved, apologies.

We’re probably not the only ones who can admit that we don’t mind indulging in some serious make up time every now and then. Who hasn’t devoted a solid 15 minutes nailing that perfect winged eyeliner before a big night out?

So, it kind of gets on our nerves when some people just can’t help but comment on our dedication to all things beauty product related. The cheek! We rounded up some of the one-liners we could really do with not hearing again any time soon.

“How long does it take you to get ready though?”

“You spent how much on that new Naked palette?”

“All those shades of red lipstick look the same.”

“I prefer a no makeup look.”

“Does anyone even wear purple eyeshadow?”

“What’s a beauty blogger anyway?”

And the award goes to… The ladies of Cork and Limerick.

Cork residents have been found to purchase the most discounted deals on beauty treatments. According to a recent survey, the women of Limerick city are apparently the second most beauty obsessed in the country. Who knew?

Discounted beauty deals count for 31% of all those purchased on Living Social in the Cork region, while in Limerick it came to 30%. South Dublin dwindled down to 18% and Galway came in at 23%.

And what do these beauty savvy ladies chose to spend their hard earned cash on you ask?

Manicures, pedicures and teeth whitening are some of the most popular indulgences for the local ladies.

The online shopping website Living Social is reporting that people in Limerick are the ones snatching up those bargain beauty deals before anyone else in the country even gets a look in.

Haircuts, waxing, laser treatments and the all-important all-over spray tan are all high on the list of purchased beauty treatments. These ladies have clearly got their priorities.

For those in Cork, the most popular treatments were manicures and pedicures. More of these packages were bought in Cork than anywhere else in Ireland and the UK.

Let it never be said that us Irish ladies don’t like to look our best, and we’re not afraid to invest in or ourselves either apparently!

If ever there was a time to use the nail painting emoji it would be now.
