make-up

Every woman will have a beauty crisis at least once a week. Whether it's your lipstick breaking, your nail polish sticking together or your powder falling and smashing ALL OVER the place (we all hate that one), it can be a kick in the teeth, especially when we've spent all of our hard earned cash on these items.

But fear not, because Cosmopolitan has made a video of insanely easy beauty hacks that will have you back on your beauty A-game in no time.

At the coveted InStyle Awards this week, Kim Kardashian introduced make-up artist to the stars, Charlottle Tilbury.

Charlotte was annoucned Make-Up Artist of the Year, but in Kim's introduction, she shared some pretty controversial beauty advice.

According to The Cut, Kim said: "Charlotte Tilbury is my hero because she has never let her husband see her without makeup on. She sleeps with her makeup on. She's my idol."

"She's inspired me when I am really lazy and I can't do my makeup the next day, so I'll sleep in my makeup. I know that's probably the worst advice, but she has all the magic creams to put on the next day to make up for it."

Even though we love Kim for admitting she's a lazy girl at heart, we're not very impressed that she's breaking rule number one in beauty and skin care.

Getting clear, glowing and blemish-free skin could be as easy as making a few simple changes to your routine – but the key is knowing which ones.

There's no point in splashing out on a trolley's worth of beauty products if none of them is right for your skin.

Regardless of their skin type, there are a few simple things that all women with great skin count as part of their everyday routine.

1. Using SPF every day
Even in rainy Ireland, direct sunlight can cause harm to our skin over time. Avoid wrinkles and dark spots in the future by using a moisturiser with SPF on your face and neck. Many foundations and BB Creams now come with added SPF too – win.

2. Not being afraid of oil-based products
Those of us with oily skin or spot-prone patches tend to shy away from oil-based products. But ensuring your skin is properly hydrated is important for preventing excess sebum production. If you're still reluctant, use an oil-based cleanser on your skin to remove all traces of make-up, before following up with a regular cleanser.

3. Exercising regularly
As if you needed another good reason to hit the gym. Exercise increases blood flow to the skin, helping to nourish cells and improving circulation. Plus, sweating is a great way to get all those toxins out – just be sure to wash your face well after your gym session.

4. Exfoliating at LEAST once a week
People with oily skin may need ot exfoliate more, but most of us should be working up a scrub at least once every seven days to buff away dead skin skills. A regular exfoliation routine will keep your skin looking brighter, and will prevent build up of oil and dead skin in pores. Fewer blemishes and clearer skin – it's a no-brainer.

5. Refusing to go to sleep with make-up on
Whatever guilty pleasures you give into of a Saturday night, don't let falling asleep with a full face of slap be one of them. Even in a worst case scenario you should aim to take make-up off with a cleansing wipe and to moisturise well.

6. Washing bedclothes regularly
We spend eight hours a night in our bed, and if you sleep on your side that means a third of your day is spent with your skin resting on your pillowcase. Washing your bedclothes at least once a week is key to preventing spots and irritation from bacteria.

7. Avoiding alcohol-based skincare products
Unless you have severely oily skin, astringent products are a no-no as they can leave your face feeling tight, dry and red. If you have naturally dry skin, use a fragrance-free cream or oil-based cleanser and moisturiser for all-day hydration.

When applied correctly, eyeliner can give your eyes definition, and draws attention to the one of the most important parts of your face.

However, when applied badly your eyeliner can become your nemesis. It doesn't have to be that way though. You too can have a beautiful relationship with your eyeliner and ensure your smize is forever on point.

Celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta, told Cosmo why our liner can sometimes just look downright tragic and how to make sure you always look your finest.

1. You're lining your eyes with a dull liner rather than a sharp one.

2. Your liner is transferring onto your eyelid.

Patience, basically you if you use liquid liner you need to make it has dried properly to avoid smudges.

3. Your liner is thicker on one side.

Ta suggests starting out with thin lines. If it ends up being thicker on one side, you can build the other one up to match.

4. You're lining your lower lid with liquid liner.

This is just a no-no because it's too wet and bold.

5. You're curling your lashes after you've already applied your liner.

This can smudge your liner.

6. You're not removing all your eye makeup properly.

Which means you're not starting on a blank canvas when you next apply your makeup.

7. You have small eyes and you're lining your entire eye.

Really, nobody wants to try and make this a trend do they? Doing this can  make them look even smaller.

8. Your liner travels down your face a few hours after you've applied it.

Ta's advice: Line your lower lash line with a waterproof pencil, then top it with black shadow to fix it in place. Finally, apply a translucent powder under your eye to create a barrier.

Forking out for a fancy new concealer that is supposed to leave you feeling fresh faced and blemish free only to find it does the opposite, or nothing at all, can be very annoying.

However, Cosmopolitan went on a mission to discover the ultimate concealer hacks. These are just some of the best application tricks you can use to make sure you’re getting the most from your favourite product.

1. Triangle:

The most flattering way, supposedly, to apply concealer is by drawing a triangle with the base under your eyes and pointing towards your cheek.

2. Invest in colours:

Green concealers are considered the most helpful when dealing with redness. You can cancel out a pimple's redness by applying green concealer with a clean brush to only the pimple (not the skin around it) to avoid spreading the bacteria. Then you can blend your normal concealer to help provide more coverage.

3. Use a tissue:

After applying concealer use a tissue to blot the area gently. This can help avoid concealer settling into any creases in the skin.

4. Cat-eye cheats:

An angled brush dipped in a small amount of concealer can be used to adjust your winged eyeliner if need be. Much easier than removing it all to start from scratch, and also helps avoid looking like a panda.

5. Fake a full pout:

Using a small amount of a light shade of concealer on the middle of your lips before applying lip colour can give the appearance of fuller lips.

6. Keep your brows on fleek:

Using a light concealer above and below the brow can make your brows really pop and help them appear more defined. Just make sure you blend carefully.

7. Fake the best sleep of your life:

If you line three sections of your eyes: the inner ‘V,’ the middle of your eyelid, and just below the brow bone. Lightly blend for instantly well-rested eyes and a highlight that looks natural.

8. Banish dark circles:

Apparently a concealer with more of an orange or peach hue is best to help you cover up any dark circles you may be sporting. They tend to cancel out the bluish tones that the under eye circles will tend to give off.

We have long be hearing beauty gurus sing the praises of the coconut as the ultimate product.

Whether you’re cooking with it or rubbing it all over yourself in attempts to soothe any dry knees and elbows, it is considered something of a wonder product.

As it turns out, coconut oil is not just an excellent homemade conditioner, it also works as a makeup remover.

"Coconut oil solubilizes or breaks up water-resistant substances used in eye shadow and mascara, releasing them from the skin and lashes," says cosmetic chemist Joseph Cincotta. And unlike a lot of other eye-makeup removers, it'll even leave your skin softer.

Just be careful to avoid actually getting it in your eyes, as with any other products.

Considering it is incredibly irritating any time you find yourself without these beauty staples, when we found this video we had to share it.

All you need is four ingredients and you make your own make up removing wipes. Also, you know exactly what has gone into these so anyone with sensitive skin can rest a little bit easier.

Well, luckily for them, she will be on hand to launch her Olivia Palermo X Ciaté London make up collection in store this weekend.

Originally scheduled to make an appearance last month- which was rescheduled after a surgery left her unable to travel.

Naturally, we at SHEmazing were pretty devastated when we heard the news.

However, when we were told that she was rescheduling her appearance we were as giddy as kids on Christmas morning, again.

Olivia signed as the guest creative director of the Ciaté brand. The New York native has expanded the collection from nail polishes to also include plenty of fabulous makeup products.

The first of the four exclusive collections to launch will be the collection of three new nail shades, handpicked by Olivia.

The three shades include her favourite Hutch– her “go-to red” that was inspired and named after her mother.

There’s also two softer shades to choose from, the soft powder pink Sundays and an “haute vacation red Nantucket.

They all look fabulous and very chic, so obviously we’re dying to get our hands on some for ourselves.

The new collection of cosmetics, housed in luxurious black and gold packaging (naturally), includes four Satin Kiss lipsticks, a smoky eye palette in nine of Olivia's favourite shades, two gel kohl eyeliners with blending tips.

Never one to ignore a trend, and certainly capable of putting her own elegant twist on one, she’s also introduced Cheekbone Cheat blush/bronzer compacts designed to contour and add warmth.

Fans of the fashion queen will have a chance to meet Oliva in person at Brown Thomas Dublin on Saturday 10 October at 12 noon.

Now, we've come across a fair few weird make up trends over the past few years, but this one takes the crown.

The new trend comes straight from Milan Fashion Week is probably one of the most strange we've seen – especially on the catwalk.

Models donned many a runway wearing bold lipstick on their lips… AND eyes.

Missoni and Anthony Vaccarella models graced the catwalk with bold reds, blues and yellows covered across their eyelids and brows.

Now we know Fashion Week is meant to determine what trends we will all be wearing next season – but we just can't dig this.

Can you imagine walking into Coppers donning this trend?! Yep, didn't think so.
