It should all be relatively simple: you're definitely a catch of sorts – reasonably good-looking, with a 2:1 degree in your back-pocket and a dry sense of humour that you're particularly proud of.

OK; you're not everyone's cup of tea (no one can please everyone) but you've plenty of great friends and your major flaws are relatively limited (a-jar-of-Nutella-in-one-sitting habit aside).

So why are you still single? Why are so many guys out there a serious let-down?

It's not that you're DYING to do the whole wedding and babies and mortgage thing any time soon. And granted, your mam heralding the arrival of your 26th birthday with cries of 'I'll never have any grandkids,' was embarrassingly OTT.

But somewhere at the back of your mind you know it's probably a good idea to start keeping an eye out for your lucky chosen one (lest Zac Efron not be available for marriage circa 2023).

Now US author Jon Birger has released a no-nonsense, full breakdown of why you're single: Date-onomics: How Dating Became A Lopsided Numbers Game.

He says he was compelled to research and write the book after noticing his single gal pals were always complaining that “guys were ignoring them or were toying with them”.

New York resident Jon is a financial writer for the likes of Fortune and TIME. He crunched demographic, census and other data to show that you're not just imagining it: it really is historically rough out there for the ladies.

In conclusion, and after much investigation, Mr Birger reckons there are eight reasons why women can’t find a man.

The book is definitely directed more specifically at an American readership, AND while we're don't necessarily agree with everything he says, here at SHEmazing! we also reckon there's a lot us Irish gals can learn from Jon's observations…

So, without further ado, here's why you're single…

1) You live in Dublin

The divorce rate is higher than anywhere else; you’re more likely to be single in your 30s, AND there are just more women knocking around. In fact, in all urban areas in Ireland, men are outnumbered – meaning you want to consider a day-trip to the countryside (if not an actual change of address) to meet that special guy.

2) You do the wrong college course

When it comes to education, females trump the boys pretty much every time: last year girls did better in 50 out of 59 Leaving Cert papers.

That means our third-level colleges and universities are disproportionately full of women – by a ratio of 57:43, in fact.

“Facebook did a study a few years ago on how couples met, and it turned out that 25 percent met their significant others in college or grad school,” Mr Birger says.

So, you want to increase your chances of finding The One? Opt for courses such as computer science, engineering and agriculture – which are still male-dominated.

3) The men are playing you

As reported by numerous publications, Jon highlights that dating is out with younger people and hookup culture is in. He also reckons that with the gender imbalance on college campuses, men are “having a field day”.

And so he issues a warning: the longer a girl settles for casual sex as opposed to a long-term relationship, the more chance she has of ending up alone.

4) You’re not issuing an ultimatum

“Ultimatums work in business and politics,” Mr Birger reckons. “This notion that the only area of life you shouldn’t issue an ultimatum in is romance doesn’t make sense.”

Indeed, researcher John Molloy interviewed 3,000 couples right after they got married and found that 60 percent of the women were prepared to walk away if their guy suddenly declared he wasn’t ready.

5) You’re not making the first move

Go-get-em women are the ones more likely to get the guy. Mr Birger cites a premarital counsellor who told him that “of the nine couples he had in counselling, seven of them shared a similar story: the guys all had several options, but they married the women who pursued them the most”.

And ladies, don’t worry about turning off guys by being too pushy. “It’s a myth that men enjoy the chase,” the author adds.

6) You’re working in the wrong job

Slaving away in PR, education, nursing, event planning or other female-dominant fields? Time to get a new job!

That’s because around one in ten of us meet our spouse at work.

Some careers to consider instead: mechanical engineering, IT, and financial advising.

7) You’re too religious

“People who leave organised religion are disproportionately male,” Mr Birger reckons. “Atheists and agnostics are also disproportionately male.”

8) You’re too picky

“For the women who wait [to settle down], the dating pool gets much, much worse,” Jon warns.

He likens it to a game of musical chairs. In the first round, fresh into the dating market, nearly every woman gets a chair. By the final round, the chances of losing soar to 50 percent.

The author actually says if we were all more “open-minded about who we dated,” it would be less of an issue, but these days “both men and women have become more rigid about dating across socioeconomic boundaries”.

So to find a mate, women with a Masters degree should consider dating someone from a working-class background with limited formal education.

They married in a gorgeous, beach ceremony in 2002, and today Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram to wish her husband of 13 years, Freddie Prinze Jnr, a very happy anniversary.

"I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you," she gushed in the words of poet Roy Croft. "I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me."

Actors SMG, 38, and Freddie, 39, married in Mexico – and accompanying the Instagram message, which was posted late last night, Sarah also shared a snap from their Big Day: in it, she can be seen in her gorgeous wedding dress; her blonde hair pulled back into a low bun, with her groom also dressed all in white, gazing lovingly at his new bride.

And following a spate of recent, high-profile splits (Jen and Ben; Megan and Brian; Gwen and Gavin; Khloe and Scott; Zayn and Perrie – 2015 has been ROUGH for matters of the heart), we reckon this duo have now officially restored our faith in celebrity love.

Evidently, their fans agree too. Last night, the messages of congratulations came flooding in. "Wish you the best for the best couple in the world," said one user on Instagram.

"Best couple in Hollywood Happy Anniversary to my two favourite people," stated another.

"You're such an inspiration! Hope you both have many more happy years together," wrote a third user.

Meeting on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, the couple became famous for being cast opposite each other during the late Nineties and early 2000s. They cemented their friendship before they began dating in 2000 – marrying two years later.

They now have two children: a daughter, Charlotte, five, and son, Rocky, two-and-a-half.

As well as the hit I Know What You Did Last Summer, the pair have together starred in She's All That, Scooby-Doo, and Happy N'Ever After.

So, we're confused… and we bet you are too!

It was reported today that a MARRIED Lily Allen has signed up to an exclusive celebrity dating app… huh?

To even be considered to join this dating app you have to be recommended by a famous person already involved, or satisfy the site's algorithm with a pleasing number of Instagram followers.

Imagine having eyes on that database!

Pictures from your IG account are automatically posted to the app which could explain why Lily posted THIS risky pic lately:

A source told The Sun, "Raya is a small and very exclusive site, so it was impossible to miss Lily. It has certainly raised eyebrows in the industry.”

Despite all this, Lily apparently IS still married to Sam Cooper, with her reps recently commenting: “There’s no change, she and Sam are very much married.”

The pair wed back in 2011 and have two daughters together, Ethel, 3, and two-year-old Marnie.

Earlier today Lily tweeted this cryptic message:

We can't help but wonder what on earth is going on here, but with Lily Allen it will probably only get weirder.

Although his best friend is going through a rather tough divorce, Matt Damon is quickly approaching his 10th wedding anniversary.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Matt speaks about his best pal Ben Affleck, saying that although he wasn't with his to celebrate his 43rd birthday, the actor is doing well.

"I think he was actually in Atlanta with his family. So we missed each other but…he’s good. He’s good."

Matt also speaks about marriage as gears up to celebrate his wedding anniversary, although he does admit that "Marriage is insane!"

He has been married to Luciana for ten years this December and he says that "It's a crazy idea but I love being married to my wife."

He does however realise how things to work out for some married couples and says he would never even being to offer any advice to someone else about their relationship.

The only secret to staying together for over a decade that he was willing to share was that the secret is so feel lucky. "I'm lucky I found my wife. And I guess maybe, if there's any secret… It's to feel lucky."

"So much of it is out of your hands," Damon said. "I mean, I just had that conversation with my father this weekend. He says the same thing to me. Says it's God's grace, is what he said. Because you just don't get lucky."

The actor is currently filming Martian, a movie which follows an astronaut who was left behind on a mission to mars which is set to be released in October of this year.

This role, like many of his previous movies, requires him to stay in serious physical shape and during the interview he was asked about how he stays healthy. He also has the fifth instalment of the Bourne franchise which means that he may not have time for a beer and a burger any time soon.

"I always look for an excuse to hang out and have a beer and a burger," he joked. "But no, right now, I have to be in shape, just until February, and then I'm going off the rails."

In three weeks' time, Queen Elizabeth II will become Britain's longest serving monarch – overtaking her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

As of right now, she's been on the throne for an incredible 63 years 192 days: Victoria's record currently stands at 63 years 216 days.

To mark the historical occasion, a new book has been released, The Queen's Speech; a biography which reveals intimate detail of Elizabeth's life – including her sometimes tumultuous relationships with 'the in-laws'.

And while much of the publication deals with the likes of Princess Diana – and the Queen's apparent regular disdain for her – the insight into the royal's relationship with the Duchess Of Cambridge is equally fascinating.

It has been rumoured in the past that the monarch has been judgemental of Princess Kate's 'normal' upbringing and middle class (although also rather privileged) roots.

However, The Queen's Speech dismisses this almost entirely.

In fact, it seems that Elizabeth and Kate get on extraordinarily well – with the former viewing the latter's marriage to her grandson as being much akin to her own long-standing and happy union with the Duke Of Edinburgh.

As for Kate's lack of 'blue blood,' it seems that Elizabeth is entirely unconcerned; indeed, her own mother, Elizabeth Bowes, was one of ten children born into a line of lesser, Scottish nobility.

“She thoroughly approves of the Duchess Of Cambridge and doesn’t give a fig for her being from an ordinary, middle-class background,” the book’s author Ingrid Seward writes.

“She has high hopes that the Cambridges’ marriage will be as successful as her own.”

Ms Seward even goes so far as to claim the Queen greatly admires Kate for how well she is handling her transition to life as a princess.

“The Middletons and the Windsors might seem at first glance to be worlds apart,” she writes. “Kate certainly shows no sign of adopting the horsey, doggy lifestyle beloved of her grandmother-in-law.

“But the Queen admires how well Kate has embraced royal life, combining it cheerfully with duty and motherhood. Nothing could matter more.”

In life, there is obviously no rule book that says when you wear a ring on THAT finger it automatically means you're engaged.

However, if you're attached and are then seen with a big diamond gracing your ring finger… then people are going to presume you have either tied the knot or are about to be.

And in Hollywood recently, it seems that a host of our favourtie famous faces are having a MAJOR love affair with wearing some bling on that special finger.

Here's a few well known celebs donning on the trend… simply because they think it looks pretty.

Channing Tatum, eat your heart out!

In the 2012 hit romantic comedy The Vow, Mr Tatum tries to regain his wife's memory (she's played by Rachel McAdams) after she is involved in a serious car crash.

And it appears that such a heart-warming story can happen in real-life too… the details of which will probably make you swoon.

A year ago, Jeremy and Justice Stamper married in what they thought would be their one and only wedding ceremony.

The day was everything they dreamed it would be – but less than three weeks later Justice was involved in a serious car accident which left her with amnesia.

Although she recognised her husband as the man she fell in love with (unlike The Vow), she didn't understand why her surname has swapped to Stamper, and was unable to recall anything about the biggest, happiest day of her life..

Heartbroken by the news, Jeremy decided that they would do it all over again, holding a second wedding ceremony to make up for all the lost memories.

The Tennessee native set up a GoFundMe account, and the lovebirds, who first met in kindergarten, held around round of nuptials on their one-year wedding anniversary using the €9,000 they raised online.

Talk about happily ever after!

And today – finally! – 33-year-old model Jacqui Ainsley married film director Guy Ritchie, 46, in a lavish ceremony attended by the crème de la crème of showbiz.

Social media snaps show that the bride looked stunning in an A-line lace dress and floral headband.

There to witness their Big Day are the likes of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as well as George and Amal Clooney, who themselves married less than a year ago.

Sting and wife Trudie Styler arrived this afternoon, as did Jemima Khan, Gwyneth Paltrow and David Beckham – all three of whom appear to be attendance without a plus-one.

Producer Matthew Vaughn, who worked with Guy on Snatch and Lock, Stock, and his wife Claudia Schiffer also witnessed the happy couple tie the knot earlier today.

Celebrations are currently kicking off, with chef Jamie Oliver doing the food with the reception – which is being held at Ashcombe House, the couple's sprawling country estate in Wiltshire in south west England.

The wedding seems to have a music festival feel to it, with teepees and tents set up around the grounds.

A source told The Mirror earlier this week: “The guest list is jaw-dropping. It’s like the Oscars. If even half of them come, it will be the party of the year.

“There are marquees being set up in the gardens and food by Jamie’s chefs. It’s going to be amazing.

“Guy is well connected and liked, so it’s no surprise there are so many people invited to his wedding.”

Guy's eight-year marriage to Madonna famously ended in 2008. He and Jacqui have three children – Rafael, three, Rivka, two, and Levi, one, while Guy also has two sons, Rocco and David, from his first marriage.

Kate Moss and her husband of four years, Jamie Hince, are reportedly headed down the road to divorce.

The couple, who were married in 2011, have allegedly told friends that there is slim chance of reconciling their relationship.

Rumours that their marriage is on the rocks have been running rampant for a number of months, largely due to the fact that the couple haven’t been seen together since the beginning of April.

It especially became clear that there was trouble in paradise when the 46-year-old rocker was seen at Glastonbury last month without his supermodel wife. Kate is known to be seriously fond of the festival and rarely ever misses it.

Speaking to The Sun, an insider revealed that “They are properly over as a married couple. It’s gone past the point of no return.”

The source explained that “Jamie’s just waiting for Kate to move forward with divorce proceedings. Neither are in a hurry but both suspect there won’t be a reconciliation.”

The 41-year-old model met her husband in 2007, shortly after her tumultuous engagement to Pete Doherty ended. After their wedding in 2011, Kate told the German magazine Gala that she would like to have more kids in her future.

Ms Moss has one daughter, 12-year-old Lila Grace from her former relationship to Jefferson Hack.

It just doesn’t get better than this!

Little Mix’s Jessy Nelson was proposed to on stage by her boyfriend, Jake Roche, while Ed Sheeran performed their favourite song.

The 22-year-old Rixton singer got down on one knee and popped the question where the couple first met this time a year ago.

Jake shared the happy news with fans on Instagram posting a photo of the engagement moment and a caption saying, “A year ago today I met her at Manchester arena, so it was only right, with a little help from my friend, that this happened. Best day of my life.”

And of course we are falling even MORE in love with Ed who travelled five hours on his day off so as that he could make the day perfect for his friends.

Such a sweet story!

Demi Lovato has admitted that if her long-time boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama, proposed to her she would say… Yes!

During an interview with ZM yesterday, Ms Lovato answered questions about the couple’s future together and about their somewhat controversial age difference.

“I am very, very in love with him,” the 22-year-old revealed. “I think we will probably wait a little bit longer, but if he asked tomorrow I would say yes,” the singer admitted.

Demi also addressed the big age gap between her and her boyfriend of four-and-a-half years, Mr Valderrama.

The Really Don’t Care singer explained how when they first started dating, “I was 18 and he was 30 so people were definitely judgmental and even my parents were kind of, ‘Why is someone his age wanting to date someone so young?’”

But, fast forward four years and their doubts seems to have faded away. Speaking about her 35-year-old That 70’s Show star boyfriend, Ms Lovato said that “after a while everyone around us started to see that what we have was real and incredible and very special, and we’ve been together ever since.”

You heard it Wilmer! It may be nearly time to put a ring on it.

Their €1.4m wedding took place almost eight weeks ago, but Mark Wright is – thankfully – still willing to offer his fans occasional sneak-peaks into his Big Day.

Indeed, he took to Twitter last night to share a selection of gorgeous photographs.

He and his bride, actress Michelle Keegan, signed a rumoured €1.7m contract with Hello! magazine prior to their nuptials, meaning that social media activity was strictly off limits on the day itself – and for weeks afterwards.

Most notable from the fresh set of 12 images is the groom's dancefloor moves – a skill no doubt honed during his time on Strictly Come Dancing.

Mark can also be seen flinging Michelle around during their much-talked about Dirty Dancing routine – for which the bride changed into a short white dress and sparkly heels.

In a candid snap, sisters and bridesmaids on the day Natalya and Jessica Wright appear in their matching baby pink silk dressing-gowns which sport delicate embellishment on the back.

There are also further shots of their families, and of the important men in Mark's life.
