Oh Mikey, Mikey, Mikey, what were you thinking?

So, one guy who was clearly in need of a little attention in recent days decided to post a snap of an elderly lady who supposedly came upon his open Twitter account and decided to share a selfie with all his followers.

So far, so this millennium, right?

Except it never happened.

Unfortunately for Mikey, who purportedly fell victim to an elderly prankster named Jane, Twitter wasted no time calling BS on the entire post.

Responding to the post, one Twitter user wrote: "Hello Michael, The next time you fake a tweet, be better about which pic you rip from Google. Have a nice day and Happy New Year. Madison."

Failing to realise that Twitter is a community of online detectives, Mikey only went and took a snap from Pinterest uploaded by a lady called Barbara Olsen who wrote: "I decided I should put a new picture of myself up on my art board."

"I took a selfie "first one with my IPad / mini, not bad for an old lady…2015, I love my horned rim glasses. The painting behind is also a fav. I will try to get a pic of it."

And if that wasn't enough, Mikey also forgot to disable his geotag setting, and inadvertently revealed he was in Sale not Manchester… where the Central Library is, in fact, located.

Twitter, unsurprisingly, is refusing to let poor ol' Mikey away with this one, and have had a field day roasting him online.

"Your life would be much easier if you took down this fake tweet instead of blocking everyone that points it out," wrote another Twitter user.

Ouch!
