This 1999 drama depicts the lives of young women in a psychiatric hospital in the 1960’s and unsurprisingly, packs quite a punch. Starring Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie and Oscar-nominated Winona Ryder, this adaptation of a young woman's memoirs of her time as a mentally unwell patient is a story that will stay with you long after you've seen it.

The film is so full of ups and downs, we think it’s only right to categorise them accordingly. We did cheat however, and focused more on the good bits, because frankly, Girl, Interrupted can be tough viewing and hey, it’s nice to look on the bright side!

The Good

1) Remember when the patients, in a show of solidarity for their new friend Susanna, stood up for her against the angry wife of the teacher with whom Susanna had had an affair?

Looking almost paralysed with horror in the local ice cream parlour, Susanna definitely needed some support at that moment and the girls of Claymore Hospital knew exactly how to show it. Woof.

2) Watching Susanna and Lisa attempt to comfort the distraught Polly who had been placed in solitary confinement was one of the most tender moments in the whole movie thus far.

A hesitant Susanna cautiously plucked at her guitar strings before launching into 'Downtown' accompanied by an enthusiastic Lisa and were both overjoyed as they heard Polly’s wails soften with each note.

3) If you thought you knew friendship and love after seeing Lisa and Susanna’s attempts to placate Polly, you hadn’t seen anything yet.

Watching Susanna, on her final day in the hospital, tenderly paint Lisa’s fingernails as she lay strapped to a hospital bed was by far the most moving scene of the whole film.

The Bad

1) Watching Susanna attempt to belittle Nurse Valerie while Valerie supervised the patient’s bathing time was difficult to swallow. Knowing that Valerie was rooting for the young woman meant we felt the harsh remarks were totally unfair.

Although maybe we shouldn’t have worried, because Valerie dismissed Susanna’s remarks with little more than a bemused smile and a quick dose of reality. Valerie’s a champ.

2) When the girls learn the content of Susanna’s diaries which reveal her innermost thoughts on her fellow patients, you can almost feel their confusion and hurt.

Susanna is horrified to discover Lisa betraying her so openly, while Georgina's and Polly's distress is etched across their anguished faces.

And the very, very sad….

It’s very difficult to hear Skeeter Davis’s rendition of ‘The End of the World’ without thinking of Susanna discovering poor Daisy upstairs in the home she was so proud of, isn’t it?

The scene was tense with horror as we seemed to climb every step of the stairs with Susanna and watched the needle of the record player lift up and down, before Susanna dropped to the floor at the enormity of what she found.

Quick, don't focus on this last point too much, go back and read the good section again!

This 1990 romantic comedy is a stand-out for so many reasons. Yes, the performances were top-notch, the tender moments were tender and the funny moments were funny, but have we ever stopped to consider the educational value of this tear jerker? Vivian Ward and Kit De Luca taught us so much. Girls, they were revolutionaries.

Here is just SOME of the advice and life hacks Hollywood’s sassiest working girls shared with us.

Style
Black marker was a must-have in a footwear emergency. Scuffed? No problem, quick slick of permanent marker and you were good to go. Work it baby, woooork it.

A man’s shirt and bare legs is a totally acceptable piece of daytime attire. Ignore the haters.

You can still get runners in your pantyhose, even if you’re not wearing any pantyhose. Something to really think about, girls.

Dining
Bar food nourishes you more than any store-bought food would. Nuts and fruit, what more could you want?

Having pizza delivered to a men’s clothing store is not only advised, but should be mandatory.

Allowing some of your snail dinner to fly across a restaurant dining room is not in the least bit embarrassing, but actually super-cute.

Career
Kiss by Prince is the perfect soundtrack when learning of a pay rise.

Romance
Taking your wig off after spending your first night with a man will only endear you to him more. Good to know.

Health
Flossing isn’t optional and frankly, neglecting your gums is a sin.

Mechanics
If a car corners like it’s on rails, that’s a good thing and something to be admired.

Consumer Rights
Returning with a sassy look and a can-do attitude to any store that wronged you is your only course of action. Forget irate phone calls or surly boycotting, it’s all about working your outstretched arms and using as many synonyms for the word ‘big’ as possible.

Thank you, ladies. We're forever in your debt.

Getting your hands on a copy of American Pie was a rite of passage for any teen back in 1999. Sex, sex and more sex. OK, we’ve heard enough, now gimme!

This classic teen movie was littered with some real gems; memorable scenes and classic one-liners. Was it revolutionary? Probably not. Did it teach us a thing or two? Definitely. Did it blow our tiny minds? Absolutely.

The Pie
So, first there was the actual pie. This lattice decorated apple dessert was a far cry from the charred excuses we rustled up in Home Ec class, so we couldn’t fully get on board with Jim ruining such a good culinary effort. Seriously Jim, use ours. We got a C-!

Double Clicking Your Mouse
We weren’t used to hearing girls in films talk about sex in such a full and frank way. When Natasha Lyonne incredulously asked Tara Reid whether she’d ever double clicked her mouse, we shifted uncomfortably and pretended we had no idea what she was talking about, but the scene initiated a whole host of mouse related chit-chat afterwards.

The Bible
All you’d find hidden in our school library was a mouldy egg mayonnaise sandwich left behind by a disgruntled 6th year, angry with the system and the man, but the students at Jim’s school had a veritable sex ENCYCLOPEDIA whenever they wanted it. Eh, how is that fair?

One Time At Band Camp
Still now, if you hesitantly begin a sentence with the words ‘One time’, you can be damn sure whoever’s there will chime in with a ditzy sounding ‘…at band camp!”  The grosser the end of the sentence, the better. You win this one, Alyson Hannigan.

MILF
We were introduced to the term MILF and never looked back. DILFs, BILFs, TILF’s, the list went on. If we could use it, we would. Not that we were doing ANY f’ing anyway. We just know we sounded PRETTY cool.

The World Wide Web
We’d be used to scenarios like this now, but back in the day we couldn’t actually believe that someone’s most mortifying moment could be captured on video and streamed live on the internet for all to see.  He’s going back to school after that? We’d have emigrated.

And if that wasn't enough, we were treated to not one, not two, but THREE sequels. Surely, they've taught us enough, we're done!

Ever watched a film and then watched the same scene over and over? Yeah, us too. Whether it’s the atmosphere, the chemistry between the characters or the accompanying music, some scenes are just stand-outs. And we all know that romantic ones, if done well, can have us pressing rewind for days on end.

Here are just a few love scenes that we not only wanted to watch, but actually wanted to STAR in. Girls, are you with us on these?

The Departed
Billy, played by Leonardo Di Caprio, rocked up to Madolyn’s house in torrential rain, complimented her old photos and when neither them (nor us) could take the tension anymore, catapulted into each other.

Clothes came off and bodies melded, all to the atmospheric sounds of Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.  Ehm yeah, we’ll take that.

The Notebook
We know the moment that Noah and Allie finally made love was really romantic and all, but was anyone even more moved by the scene which saw Allie discover the painting room Noah had made for her?

The paper arrows, her childlike curiosity and the look on her face when she realised that Noah was encouraging the passion that the other man in her life had completely dismissed. Oh, we can’t take it!

Pretty Woman
Vivian had finally extracted herself from the man that had shown her there was more to life than the gritty Hollywood streets, but he wasn’t letting her go that easy.

Facing his fear of heights, he climbs the fire escape to her top floor apartment , armed with roses, and plays out her Prince Charming fantasy. Do these things actually happen in real life? Who cares, rewind!

Cruel Intentions
After the multiple ups and downs of their relationship, it was only fair that Sebastian and Annette experienced a loving, tender first night together, right?

The lead up with the declaration of love, the camera angles, their glistening skin and the gentle words of reassurance. It was perfect. And if we’re being honest, we also got a secret thrill at now knowing what Reese and Ryan looked like in their pre-divorce bed. Wowza.

Juno
When 16-year-old Juno reveals her love for Paulie on the school’s running track and goes on to list the various reasons she finds him perfect, we got a major attack of the feels.

Her vulnerability, his vulnerability, the tic-tacs; what MORE could you want from a romantic scene?

Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she almost lost out on numerous roles in Hollywood movies because she was deemed too overweight.

Yes, that’s right – Amanda Seyfried. Overweight!

The actress tweeted almost two weeks ago about the topic, but it has gone unnoticed until now: “Fun fact: I almost lost out on several roles in my career because I was overweight. Wrong, America.”

While she didn’t say which movies she had almost missed out on, Amanda’s biggest roles to date include Mean Girls, Les Misérables and Dear John – could it have been one of those?!

We’re glad Amanda realises just how wrong this is and hopefully she can help change the way Hollywood looks at actors’ weight in the future.

Why can’t real-life relationships be more like the ones we see on-screen? Here’s our list of the best fictional boyfriends ever.

1. Noah from The Notebook

With his combination of charm, sincerity and adventurous spirit, Noah has all of the ingredients to be the perfect boyfriend. He knows what he wants, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get it, even if that means dangling off a Ferris wheel. Let’s face it: Ryan Gosling in any role is our dream boyfriend.

Memorable quote: “I want all of you, forever. You and me, every day.”

2. Nick from New Girl

From the moment that Jess moved in with the guys, we were already rooting for her and Nick to get together. Although he can be a little grumpy and pessimistic at times, he’s a loyal friend, a great listener and the perfect partner in crime. Who didn’t swoon during that amazing first-kiss scene?

Memorable quote: “I think you’re the kind of girl a guy would come back for.”

3. Jack from Titanic

Jack Dawson is the ultimate romantic. Come on, the guy froze to death to save the life of the girl he loved, even when it was quite clear he could have fit on that piece of wood. We love his boyish charm, spontaneity and smile that could melt any girl’s heart. Plus, he really knows how to wear a tux.

Memorable quote: “You jump, I jump, remember?”

4. Dr McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy

Oh swoon swoonage. Mc Dreamy, the ultimate gentleman; he’s kind and gentle and… he’s a brain surgeon. Meredith is annoying as hell and we don’t know how she got him, but wow.

Memorable quote: “You’ll never love yourself half as much as I love you.”

5. Pacey Witter from Dawson’s Creek

Pacey Witter was the heart throb of many a girl born in the late 80’s/early 90’s who watched Dawson’s Creek religiously. The way he looked and treated Joey Potter was unparalleled, he was the bench mark that many a boy was measured against, and few measured up. So sweet, so unrealistic.

Memorable quote: “You and I were one of the few things, perhaps the only thing, that ever made perfect sense to me.”

6. Tom from (500) Days of Summer

Tom is a hopeless romantic and one of the few guys left who still believes in fate and true love. You would never have to worry about “defining the relationship” with him – if Tom is with you, you can rest easy knowing he’s in it for the long haul. Plus, we love that he has good taste in music and a penchant for running through IKEA stores.

Memorable quote: “I love how she makes me feel. Like anything’s possible… or like life is worth it.”

7. Graham from The Holiday

The heartbreaking story of poor widowed Graham who falls hopelessly in love with Cameron Diaz in The Holiday. The scene when he’s doing Mr Napkin head for his daughters is really what gets us in this one.

Memorable quote: “I finally know what I want and that, in itself, is a miracle. And what I want is YOU.”

8. Chuck from Gossip Girl

With confidence, class and a smouldering gaze, Chuck Bass is the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. Although he can be kind of mean, we can’t help but be drawn to his bad-boy charm. If more college guys dressed as well as Chuck does, the world would be a more beautiful place.

Memorable quote: “I’m sorry I gave up on us when you never did.”

9. Johnny Castle from Dirty Dancing

Pretty much the coolest guy we’ve ever seen, Johnny from Dirty Dancing was the best. We all dreamed of meeting an older, sexy ride that taught us everything we needed to know about life and sex in one summer. Dem hip moments though…

Memorable quote: “Nobody puts baby in the corner”

10. Aidan Shaw from Sex And The City

He’s not Mr.Big, he never will be – he’s a whole other kind of guy. Aidan was just… so…. nice. This man just wanted to carve you furniture and take you to a log cabin and then out to his cool bar. Okay so maybe he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for the sane women out there who can actually appreciate a genuinely nice guy – he was your Adonis.

Memorable quote: “I love you, Carrie. There’s no one I could love more. I want to live my life with you.”

10. Smith Jarrod from Sex And The City

Well we couldn’t exactly include SATC and NOT have Smith in here. Not only was he literally the hottest thing ever to grace our screens, he was also head over heels in love with Samantha, totally faithful, accepted her for exactly who she was and just an all round absolute gem.

Memorable quote: “I forgot to tell you something on the phone: I love you.”

If you’re a fan of Magic Mike (who isn’t?) you are going to love this news.

Channing Tatum is looking for some new cast members and, as the old saying goes, he wants you!

Yes, with the sequel to the hit stripper movie, Magic Mike XXL, well underway, the crew are now looking for 300 ladies and gents to stand in as the lucky crowd that get to watch Mike and the gang in action.

We can think of worse ways to spend an afternoon than watching Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello body-roll in their underwear.

The movie’s crew put an advert out in a local newspaper in Savannah, where the movie is being shot, appealing to women and men living in the area to hit them up if they had any interest in being an extra in the movie, and watching some celebrities repeatedly take their clothes off.

So, you know, they’ll probably get one or two applications, right?

We’re expecting flight tickets out to Georgia to be in high demand, somehow!

For those of you who loved the original movie, the sequel looks set to be even better, with the storyline revolving around our favourite strippers attending a convention. Love it.

We straight-up volunteer!

Facing your ex is always an awkward situation, so we can’t imagine how we’d react if the whole world was watching.

Apparently, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult aren’t too thrilled at the prospect, either.

The actors, who dated on and off for three years after meeting on the set of their first X-Men movie, and are set to reprise their roles as lovers Mystique and Beast in the next instalment.

According to reports today however, as production for X-Men: Apocalypse looms, Jennifer is said to be growing increasingly nervous about their love scenes together.

A source told Heat magazine: “It’s come at a difficult time and [Jennifer’s] worried she may get confused if she starts talking to Nick again.”

And we can see why. They couple first got together on the set of X-Men: First Class, later splitting, but deciding to give their relationship another go after reuniting to film sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past.

To make matters worse, the next movie is set to give a lot of focus to the relationship between Nick and Jen’s characters.

Sounds like a recipe for major awkwardness.

While nothing is ever easy where matters of the heart are concerned, Jennifer and Nicholas are total professionals, so we have no doubt that they’ll do a top job with the next movie.

It’s been a rough few weeks for Jennifer Lawrence, but the actress has proved that nothing will dampen her spirits.

While promoting her latest movie, Serena, on the red carpet last night, the star showed that she is back on top form after the nude photo leak scandal – and up to her bold antics once again!

Looking nothing short of stunning in her Dior tuxedo gown, the 24-year-old couldn’t resist playing up for the cameras, pretending to pick her character’s nose on the giant billboard poster behind her!

Good old Jen, we can always count on her to provide us with a good laugh on and off camera.

We wouldn’t have blamed the Hunger Games actress if she had decided to throw a few stony-faced glares for her latest public appearance, given how traumatic the past few weeks have been for her.

As well as coming under intense scrutiny over her alleged new romance with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, the nude photo hacking scandal continues to haunt her, with some of the explicit snaps most recently turning up on her official Wikipedia page.

We’re glad to see that Jennifer can still have a laugh amidst the controversy surrounding her.

In case you didn’t know, Chloe Grace Moretz is kind of a big deal.

The Kick-Ass star isn’t even 18 years old yet but already she is poised to become one of the highest paid actresses in the business, after landing a major movie deal.

The actress is set to play the character Alina in the new Denzel Washington movie The Equalizer, and while she is no stranger to a big role, she has reportedly landed a huge pay cheque for the part.

According to reports, while Moretz has already clocked $400,000 for signing on for the part, her deal will also see her earn an extra $150,000 if the film makes over $100 million at the North American box office.

And with a cast including Denzel and Bill Pullman, it looks like Chloe will be laughing all the way to the bank.

For such a young actress, Chloe has already earned worldwide acclaim for a string of powerful performances in movies such as Let Me In and Kick-Ass.

It looks like she’s all set for Hollywood domination!

Fair play to her.

Bridesmaids has to go down as one of the funniest chick flicks of recent years, so naturally, we’re all bursting for a sequel.

And while previous interviews with cast and crew made it look like it may never happen, one of the film’s biggest stars has just given us fresh hope.

Melissa McCarthy, who played the hilarious Megan Price in the movie, has said that she would be all for reprising her role in a follow-up instalment.

Use your powers of persuasion, Melissa!

Speaking in a recent radio interview, the award-winning actress said: “I had such a good time doing that movie. Every single day on that movie was ridiculously fun.”

“At some point, if Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo say, ‘You know what, we wrote another one’, I would be tickled pink to do it,” she added.

While the movie cleaned up during awards season, producer Judd Apatow previously admitted that he was reluctant to undertake a sequel unless the script could do justice to the original.

“The key is we have to come up with an idea that is as good, or better than the first one,” he said at the time.

With a cast and crew like that on board, we’re sure they are up to the challenge.

Fingers crossed that Melissa’s enthusiasm sets the wheels in motion!
