Most of us couldn’t wait for our teenage years when we’d FINALLY get our hands on a few movies with 15-ratings – 18 at a total push – but considering many of us were left traumatised by films actually aimed at children, we don’t actually know what the rush was all about.

From The Witches to Labyrinth, our childhood viewing experience was punctuated by sharp intakes of breaths followed by bloodcurdling screams as we wondered what the hell our parents were thinking popping this one in the VCR for us.

But, it was Friday, it was film night, and we were damned if we were going to bed early just because we couldn’t handle the giant spider Jumanji was throwing at us.

With the night that's in it, here is a brief a run-down of the movies which had SHEmazing staff whimpering into their mam’s crochet throw.

1. The Witches

When the Grand High Witch, played by Anjelica Huston, removed her face and revealed herself for the bald, hook-nosed, hunch-backed creature she truly was, our childhoods came to an official end.

We knew we weren’t in for an easy ride – the clue WAS in the title – but THAT thing? Too much lads, too much.

2. Labyrinth

There are a few amongst us who found David Bowie himself a little creepy, but when it comes to this 1986 flick, it was the Shaft of Hands that scared the beyjasus out of most of us.

They might have said they were helping hands, but their mocking tone of voice and cruel laughter told us all we needed to know about those scaly things.

3. Jumanji

We’ll give them this one – after the success of Mrs. Doubtfire, our parents probably thought they were onto a sure thing with Jumani, but they were wrong….very wrong.

The moment a collect of GINORMOUS spiders – accompanied by the squishiest sound we’ve ever heard – slowing began making their way down a window and across the floor behind Kirsten Dunst’s head, all bets were off.

4. IT the Clown

In fairness, this was one of those movies which we watched when our older cousins – who cared little for our emotional wellbeing – were left in charge for the evening.

And while we may have convinced ourselves we were able to handle Stephen King’s IT, the moment that terrifying circus runaway popped his head through the sewer grate and grinned up at Georgie, we knew we had made a MASSIVE mistake.

4. The Goonies

Regularly – and understandably – touted as one of the greatest kids’ movies of all times, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t find ourselves totally creeped out at various points throughout The Goonies.

From the unremitting drizzle to the lad’s dank surroundings, we were primed for a scare from the get-go, and got it when Sloth and his love of Baby Ruth bars were unveiled.

5. The Princess Bride

This 1987 flick seems to tick all the boxes; romance, fantasy, adventure, comedy… and downright horror.

We are, of course, talking about the moment Westley  – our first movie crush, obvs – fell victim to an enormous swamp rat’s eager jaws.

We can still hear the gnawing at night…

If you've spent an afternoon snivelling into the cuff of your dressing gown while watching BeachesPretty Woman or The Princess Diaries, then there's no doubt that you – like million others – were touched by the work of Garry Marshall.

The Hollywood actor, director and producer, who was responsible for some of the most romantic, touching and heartwrenching movies of our time, has passed away at the age of 81, and tributes are currently flooding in from stars around the world.

Credited for giving well-known actors their first big break, the Hollywood heavy-hitter broke into showbusiness in the late 1950s, began churning out hits – from the small screen to the silver – and continued for decades.

Devastated by the death of the much-loved movie-maker, actors and actresses have taken to social media in their droves to pay tribute to a man who began his career as a joke writer before becoming a writer on The Tonight Show in 1970.

From The Odd Couple and Mork and Mindy to Beaches and Pretty Woman, Garry Marshall is known for making his audience weep tears of laughter and sorrow, and will be sorely missed by those in the industry.

Let’s be honest, Jamie Dornan is a ride in anyone’s language.

And while fans of the Irish star have long since known he’s more than a little easy on the eye, that doesn’t stop them coming over a little hot and bothered every time he gets his kit off.

So the moment footage of him filming the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey hit the internet today, social media users unsurprisingly wasted no time sharing their thoughts on Jamie’s ‘breathtaking’ physique.

Wearing nothing but a pair of swim shorts – he was on a beach in France after all – 34-year-old Jamie channelled his inner Mr. Grey, and prepared to shoot an outdoor sex scene with his co-star Dakota Johnson.

And while many actors might avoid filming such intimate scenes in the presence of their real-life other half, Jamie, on the other hand, harboured no such concerns and invited his wife, Amelia, along to the set.

It looks, however, like fans of the star had less interest in Jamie's laidback approach to the scene, and feared more for each other's wellbeing after exposure to the glory that is Mr. Dornan.

They have a point, in fairness.

Hollywood has long been criticised for its portrayal of the ‘ideal’ woman and it seems even those inside the movie industry are fed up with this image.

Among those calling for the ‘average’ woman to be represented in film is actress Melissa McCarthy.

The Bridesmaids star recently told the Daily Mail that “for so long, we weren't showing real women” on screen and instead were limiting the female ideal to the picture perfect model.

She said: “We were showing perfect women – they wore the perfect thing, they never got upset.  I don't know any of those women.”

“I know women and men that are every colour and mood and emotion.  Don't be surprised when you see interesting, multi-dimensional women.”

“That's the goal.  We're not supposed to be perfect; we are supposed to be real."

The American comedian explained that she finds “flawed” women to be powerful on-screen because they better mirror the woman we encounter in everyday life.

She said: “I think it's always incredibly powerful when we see, in films and in art, the women that we are surrounded by.  I am surrounded by strong, flawed, funny, heroic, crazy, loving women.”

Melissa’s comments were supported by her Ghostbusters director Paul Feig who told Today online: “I think ladies make really good ghostbusters.  They are able to think on their feet, very nimble out there, able to do the action, able to fight, but also to be smart and use psychology to get around them.”

Scarlett Johansson recently made movie history by becoming the highest grossing actress of all time, but it looks like the Lost in Translation star wasn't as overjoyed as people might have expected.

While both the viewing public and many in the movie industry celebrated Scarlett's inclusion in the top ten highest grossing actors and actresses of all time, the 31-year-old star focussed her attention on the fact she was the ONLY female in the top ten.

With stars like Harrison Ford, Samuel L. Jackson and Morgan Freeman beating Scarlett to a higher place on the list, the actress felt dismayed that she wasn't surrounded by more female stars in the top ten.

"It's kind of disappointing actually to be the only woman in this category," she said while attending the Gene Siskel Film Centre's annual gala in Chicago.

Instead of celebrating her position in the chart compiled by Box Office Mojo, Scarlett lamented the lack of female presence, saying "That was a little bit of a surprise to me."

Previously commenting on the impact she has made on the movie industry, the Jungle Book star said: "I am very fortunate. I make a really good living, and I'm proud to be an actress who's making as much as many of my male peers at this stage."

Scarlett has reportedly pulled in a whopping €3.3 billion in the box office over the course of her career.

While Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is currently thrilling audiences in London, it looks like it was the cast of the play that got the biggest thrill of the run so far when Emma Watson decided to rock up at the Palace Theatre in the English capital last night.

While die-hard fans had previously questioned the fact Noma Dumezweni – a black actress – would be playing the adult Hermione on stage, Emma Watson happily gave the award-winning actress her seal of approval, and yes in spite of this, they had yet to meet face to face.

Surprising the cast last night, 26-year-old Emma arrived backstage and posed for photos with fellow actors before meeting Noma in one very moving moment,

Emma took to social media to share that moment with fans and followers, writing: "It was SO lovely to meet you" alongside a photo of the pair gazing at each other.

Noma did the same and it sounds like the actress was bowled over by their touching meeting, writing: "Now I feel I can share the maHUSSIVE joy I felt, alongside the company when a beautiful, humble and very kind young lady." (sic)

"It really was quite emotional to be in your company. And Thank you 4 your lovely self," she continued. "We spoke of you with MAJOR respect."

Fans of all things Potter-related fell all over themselves as the posts were uploaded, with one writing: "It's so beautiful to see you together. Thanks for sharing this photo with us. All Potterheads are dying."

The posts have been liked almost 50,000 times since last night.

Margot Robbie, you might want to look away now – Wait, Margot Robbie reads this, right?

She does, of course she does.

Anyway, while Ms. Robbie admits she spent her teen years desperately trying to look like Harry Potter – no, seriously – one girl on Instagram has actually managed it for real.

Annelies Van Overbeek, who bears a striking resemblance to movie icon, Audrey Hepburn, has Instagram enthralled by her incredible transformations, but it's her Harry Potter one that has really caught the public's imagination.

Sharing two snaps of herself as everybody's favourite wizard, Annelies wrote: "And now for something completely different; my second attempt at looking like Harry Potter!"

"I watched The Prisoner of Azkaban yesterday and tonight we're watching The Goblet of Fire! (My fave HP book!)," she added alongside a photo of herself looking remarkably like the young male wizard.

"Don't worry, I didn't forget the scar! Nor did I cut my hair hahah!" she wrote alongside another close-up snap of her impressive transformation.

Let's be honest here, girl's got skills.

In an industry which consistently focuses on the aesthetic, Aussie actress, Rebel Wilson, insists she has no intention of conforming to Hollywood's beauty ideals, and even credits her shape for her global success.

According to The Independent, the Pitch Perfect actress insists that despite what Hollywood would have you think, gaining weight actually did wonders for her career and celebrity profile.

Reflecting on the moment which caused her to question the link between appearance and audience appreciation, Rebel recalled being in a play with an actress larger than her.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: "I was like: ‘Oh. That girls’ getting a lot of laughs, a lot easier than me. What is it?’ Because I don’t think there’s much difference in talent."

"And I remember distinctly thinking: ‘I think it’s because she’s fatter’. And then, I don’t know if it was mega-conscious, but I thought: ‘How can I get more laughs? Maybe if I was a bit fatter…’ And then suddenly I was fatter and doing comedy,” she explained.

The 36-year-old actress, who suffers from a hormonal imbalance, acknowledges that her perspective is far from the norm in Tinseltown, saying: "I saw my size as being an advantage whereas so many women see it as a disadvantage."

If we didn't love her enough already…

While discussion surrounding the gender pay gap continues to rage in Hollywood, it's easy to become disillusioned by the whole damn thing.

With that in mind, it's refreshing to see that despite the inequality so regularly highlighted in the movie industry, female stars are still kicking ass at the box office, and being recognised for it too.

Step forward Scarlett Johansson who has just been named as the highest-grossing actress OF ALL TIME.

In a report compiled by Box Office Mojo, it has been established that 31-year-old Scarlett has raked in a staggering $3.3 BILLION since making her first foray onto the silver screen in the 90s.

According to Vogue, Scarlett, who starred in Lost in Translation, The Jungle Book and The Girl with the Pearl Earring to name but three,  is the only female star – not to mention the youngest – to feature in the report's top ten.

Scarlett previously commented on the gender pay gap which was again brought to the fore again recently when word got out that Jennifer Lawrence was being paid less than her male co-stars.

"I am very fortunate, I make a really good living, and I'm proud to be an actress who's making as much as many of my male peers at this stage."

Scarlett, you're killing it.

While we're all for the standard munch that normally accompanies our trips to the cinema, sometimes it's nice to channel the sophisticated grown-ups we know we are deep-down.

And it looks like the good folk at Dublin's Light House Cinema are with us on this one and have pulled out all the stops for their screening of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie this weekend.

On Sunday July 3rd, Patsy and Edina fans are invited to get their boozy brunch on in the much-loved Smithfield cinema while checking back in with everyone's favourite BFFs.

The idea of ditching our standard popcorn for smoked salmon, cream cheese, and hummus, while opting for a Bellini over a Diet Coke is appealing to us so much right now, so grab the ladies and 'sweetie darling' all over yourself this weekend.

With a two brunch bundles coming in at a very reasonable €20 to choose from, our Sunday is definitely set!

It's been online for almost four years now, but Kate Winslet's screen test for Titanic has started doing the rounds again in recent days, and we can't stop re-watching it.

We don't know whether it's Kate's unmistakable talent or the fact she's actually playing opposite Elton from Clueless, but this YouTube video manages to be both surreal and compelling in equal measure.

Watching Kate channel her inner Rose DeWitt Bukater to anyone other than Leonardo Di Caprio is absolutely bizarre while seeing Jeremy Sisto talk about anything other than his missing Cranberries CD is a little hard to take.

Add in the squeaking couch and the all too obvious lack of Leo, and this 20-year-old audition has us in a full tailspin.

Ladies, check this out!
