nap

Ever pass by a creche and see toddlers having nap time? Ever wish you could be one of those?

Well, now you kinda can.

A UK-based gym is offering a class where, instead of breaking a sweat, you catch up on your sleep.

The hour-long class, which is called 'Nap-ercise', starts with stretching for 15 minutes, and then a 45 minute slot for catching up on your ZZZs.

According to Hello Giggles, the gym wrote on its website: “The frantic nature of modern life means that few of us seem to get enough sleep, and if you’re a parent, a good night’s rest becomes even more of a luxury.

"So we’re created a new group class — group napping classes for exhausted mums and dads to help boost their mental and physical wellbeing.”

We NEED this.

If you've ever found yourself wondering whether anyone would notice if you grabbed 40 winks in the office bathroom, you may be interested to hear that a designer has created a desk which doubles as a bed.

That's right ladies, Athanasia Leivaditou is attempting to make the world a better place… one catnap at a time.

So, how does it work exactly? Well, you'll be pleased to know that the designer has made it pretty simple.

All you need to do is slide back the desk surface, then fold the back of the desk down to create the mattress and crawl into your new workplace fort.

But before you drop a note in the work Suggestion Box, it's worth remembering that the design has not yet reached the market, so it may be some time before you're the proud owner of the convertible napping desk.

Still, we can dream, right?

As anyone who’s ever flown long haul will know, there is nothing better than sleeping as you fly.  But as One Direction’s Niall Horan has discovered, catching forty winks mid-flight can have its disadvantages.

The Mullingar man shared a few choice words on Twitter last night after an overenthusiastic One D fan snapped him while he slept.

After finding themselves flying alongside the popstar, the fan shared a picture of Niall's nap with the caption: “And to sum up the PERFECT European adventure, I sat directly next to Niall from One Direction for 9 hours on my flight home from London last night.”

“He was sick and asked for no selfies, but here is a pic I snapped when he was sleeping lol he was so friendly!”

“Talked about Ireland, LSE, lolla, and more.  Not a British Duke…But an Irish Popstar will do.  Thanks for treating me so well Europe.”

Clearly Niall was less than impressed with his privacy being invaded as upon discovering the post he screenshotted it, re-shared it and wrote: “I think this sh*t is unreal.  I mean if you can’t sleep on a plane without people taking photos of you, what can u do” (sic).

In classic One Direction fashion, the band’s fans already have a hashtag trending over the incident.

#RespectNiall is currently doing the rounds on Twitter as fans share comments like “There are no words for this” and “All I can say is ‘HE’S REAL’”.

It seems taking an afternoon nap is not such a good thing after all. This is awful news for those of us who like to catch an afternoon siesta as often as possible.

According to new research, a nap can be associated with early death. Researchers studied 16,00 British adults over 13 years who enjoyed an nap of more than  hour each day. Unfortunately, when they went to check on their research, they found that 3,000 of their subjects had died from lung disease.

The research said: “After analysing the data, scientists discovered that people who slept for less than an hour in the day increased the chance of death by around 14 per cent. This number rose to 32 per cent if the nap lasted for more than an hour, and was linked to the development of respiratory illnesses.”

The frightening thing about the finding is that while napping won’t bring about lung disease, it is actually a sign that you may already have respiratory problems.

So what are we to do about our much loved naps? Wait for more research perhaps.
