Girlboss is one of the most hotly anticipated Netflix series of 2017 and we couldn’t be more excited about its release.

The script was adapted from the memoirs of Sophia Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal, and tells the story of how the entrepreneur built her fashion empire from the ground up.

The series centres on the core themes of girl power and successful women in business, but unfortunately not everyone was able to grasp the concept behind the female centric show.

Executive producer, Charlize Theron, admitted to E! News that the female-heavy cast raised a few eyebrows during the pitching process.

‘‘One person said to us, ‘There are too many girls in this’‘’ she said.

But of course, Charlize was quick to shut them down, replying: “And your problem is?”

The star also admitted that she wouldn't have taken on the project unless she was sure it would be executed right.

''[The show] had to be authentic. So if we couldn’t do that I didn’t want to do it. And it was nice to have a bunch of girls around me that supported that and we stood strong.''

We couldn't think of a better person for the job.

Girlboss is available to stream globally from today (April 21).

13 Reasons Why, Netflix’s latest series has been causing some controversy lately.

The series, produced by Selena Gomez, follows the story of 17-year-old Hannah Baker, a high-school student who ultimately takes her own life, and while many viewers have applauded the creators for tackling such an important and sensitive issue, others have suggested that the show 'glamorises' suicide.

A statement released by Netflix to ABC News read:

"We support the unflinching vision of the show's creators, who engaged the careful advice of medical professionals in the scriptwriting process."

"We wanted to do it in a way where it was honest, and we wanted to make something that can hopefully help people because suicide should never ever be an option."

Dan Reidenberg, executive director for Suicide Awareness Voices of Education responded to the statement saying, "There is a great concern that I have, that young people are going to over-identify with Hannah in the series, and we actually may see more suicides as a result.''

"There should be no reason, no justification whatsoever, why any kind of production – entertainment or news – would be so descriptive and so graphic."

Due to the graphic nature of some of the scenes, Twitter users have been warning people to stay away form the series if they have struggled with depression, self-harm or sexual abuse.

There is nothing better than settling down for a night of Netflix, but unfortunately we've already finished 13 Reasons Why, binged watched Planet Earth and re-watched Stranger  Things.

We're definitely ready for some new viewing material, and luckily Netflix is providing just that.

Here's five must-watch series coming up in the next month.

5. Girlboss

Loosely based on the life Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso’s rise to retail success, season one of Girlboss is arriving on our Netflix screens on April 21.

The show documents how the entrepreneur started off selling thrift store finds on eBay, before moving on to selling her own creations, eventually culminating in the online store Nasty Gal.

4. Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On

The new series is a follow up from the riveting documentary of the same name.

This series exposes how women are portrayed in pornography these days, and how the industry has changed and developed through the eyes of the men and women involved.

Warning, the trailer is NSFW.

3. Casting JonBenet

Casting Jon Benet is due out on April 28, just as the 20th anniversary of the murder of child pageant queen JonBenét Ramsey.

Netflix have decided to offer up a documentary of their own about the subject amongst an influx of others, but their take on the mystery is quite different than all the others.

The documentary epic explores the murder through the theories of actors, all from the Boulder, Colorado area, auditioning to take part in the flick, using their opinions to tell the sorry tale.

2. Dear White People

The first season of this show is due out on April 28, and the divisive series is definitely one to watch.

The series is set to explore race and cultural appropriation, judging from the ad.

The trailer has almost ten times more dislikes than likes, so we'd say the debates over this one will be complex and poignant.

1. The Get Down: Part 2

The first season of The Get Down was extremely well received, and fans took to social media to praise the musical drama series.

Now, part two is coming on April 7, and we cannot wait!

Her dramatic change sees her family go through a major adjustment to a life of death and destruction… but in a good way.

After a certain "Legs-It" headline yesterday, we're in the mood to watch some seriously feminist flicks.

Thankfully, Netflix has our back, and the streaming service has quite a few kick-ass movies to inspire us.

5. The Women's List

If you need some new feminist heroes to look up to, then this documentary is your calling card.

Introducing a host of women who are kicking ass and dominating their fields, these strong and intelligent figures are complete goals.

4. Audrie & Daisy

On the surface, this harrowing documentary about online sex crimes and bullying may not seem to be inherently about feminism.

However, it highlights how a woman's sexuality is used to shame her and punish her.

It also poignantly demonstrates that in some cases, people don't hear that "no means no."

3. 10 Things I Hate About You

Kat Stratford is obviously a '90s feminist icon; from her rebuttal of sexist piggery to her refusal to adapt her looks to suit the male gaze.

Kat also bestows some words of wisdom to her little sister that we could all use, and proves that women fiercely caring for one another rather than tearing each other down is the most valuable way we can support one another, even if it is you're annoyingly vapid little sister.

The movie also successful in demonstrating that feminism is not about hating men, but loving them too, as equals.

2. Miss Representation

This documentary aims to show just how destructive the galvanisation of gender stereotypes is in our society.

It also explores how women are portrayed in society and in the media, and how this impacts every element of how people view women. It shows that woman are valued for their attractiveness, not for their intelligence or capability as a leader.

It is a complete must-watch for all women to understand how the entity of a female is viewed.

1. The Most Hated Woman In America

The Most Hated Woman in America documents the life and work of American Atheists founder Madalyn Murray O’Hair.

The free-thinker revelled in being a non-conformist, and chose to be a "nasty woman" at a time when women were seen not heard.

She spoke out for civil rights and for the rights to religious freedom, which ultimately led to her procuring a reputation for being America's most hated woman.

The movie documents her shocking murder at the hands of a former co-worker and emphasises her incredible attitude and perseverance against all odds.

Now, Netflix has decided to offer up a documentary of their own, but their take on the mystery is quite different than all the others.

The trailer for the new doc is out, and it looks completely riveting.

The documentary epic explores the murder through the theories of actors auditioning to take part in the flick, essentially breaking the third wall of filmmaking in an intimate an exploratory way.

Casting JonBenét uses the opinions of actors, all from the Boulder, Colorado area, to tell the sorry tale.

The film "expands the formal horizons of a documentary," according to the The Hollywood Reporter, and we must say that it looks very intriguing

The documentary first appeared at the Sundance Film Festival before it was snagged by Netflix.

We literally cannot wait to watch.

We all get wrapped up in our favourite TV shows from time to time and wish that we could just lead all the characters in the right direction.

Unfortunately, that never happens, but with technology that Netflix is looking into, we might not be that far off from choosing our own TV show endings.

According to The Daily Mail, Netflix is reportedly looking into how to develop the user experience.

It wants to allow viewers to have full interactive control of the shows they like, and let users guide the narrative the way they want it.

A source told the publication, "We're doing work on branch narratives so you are actually making choices as you watch.

"All the content will be there, and then people will have to get through it in different ways. We'll see how it plays out. It's an experiment."

The insider added, "We'll see if it gets much success. For creators, it's new territory."

It's not yet known whether the interactive experience will be rolled out on existing shows or if totally new ones will have to be commissioned, but we have to say, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
