Another year, another Academy Award's series of snubs. It wouldn't be the Oscars unless some fandoms were left devastated on behalf of their favourite actor or actress, would it?

The 2019 awards are seeing some record breakers, first-time achievements and MAJOR actors left out of the nominations, much to the upset of Twitter.

So who are the biggest history makers and snubbed heartbreakers?

1. Timothée Chalamet, Beautiful Boy

Our favourite human ever (protect him at all costs) failed to garner an Oscar nod for his protrayal of a crystal meth addict son of Steve Carrell (also snubbed), and people are ChalaMAD about it.

He was ROBBED.

We won't forget this, Academy. You've made an enemy.

2. Bradley Cooper for Best Director, A Star Is Born. Okay, but women get snubbed in this category every year, so let's not cry too hard.

We're super shook by this one, Lady Gaga must be upset on his behalf since she's been endorsing him for the entire of awards season ("There could be 99 in a room but all it takes is just one to believe in you")

Classic Guardians of the Galaxy reference, we had to laugh at this one.

3. Crazy Rich Asians for…ANY category. Any.

Michelle Yeoh deserved recognition for her outstanding take in the all-star Asian cast, she slayed that screen. She even owns that iconic emerald ring featured in the film, if that's not commitment I don't know what is.

It's offeNSIVE god damn it.

Looks like a riot is about to happen…

4. Emily Blunt for EITHER Mary Poppins Returns or A Quiet Place

HOW.

She's so versatile, so dedicated, so classy. We can feel her hubby John Krasinski's blood boil.

Processing this snub is a hard pill to swallow right now.

Rest in pieces.

5. A FEMALE DIRECTOR. AGAIN.

We cannot believe this…it's 2019 and still only five women have EVER been nominated, and only one woman has ever won the gong (Kathryn Bigelow).

Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, and Debra Granik’s Leave No Trace, despite being recognised on the film circuit by Sundance and Cannes, received no nominations.

Ramsay and BlacKkKlansman director Spike Lee, who has earned his first Academy Award nomination, are the most laureled filmmakers on the critics’ awards circuit after Alfonso Cuarón for Roma.

Other women who were ignored were Marielle Heller for Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Chloe Zhao for The Rider, Tamara Jenkins (Private Life), Karyn Kusama (Destroyer), Mimi Leder  for On the Basis of Sex and Josie Rourke for the incredible Mary Queen of Scots.

The NECK.

At least Canadian artist Domee Shi is being celebrated as the first female director to be nominated for Best Short Film, after helming Pixar's adorable Bao.

Two years ago, the world was simultaneously shocked and mildly entertained by the epic disaster that was Fyre festival.

Billed as the ideal high-end music festival experience on a private island, the entire thing was a huge flop.

The organisers were punished to the highest degree of the law for their recklessly poor management and organisation of the event, and were slapped with fines of $100 million in damages – and the festival disaster returned to the public eye this week as both Netflix and Hulu released competing documentaries about the issue.

In both, venturists Ja Rule and Billy McFarland were featured heavily. McFarland, founder of Fyre Media and brainchild behind the festival, is a convicted felon charged with defrauding investors and ticket holders, who is spending the next six years in a federal prison.

The 2017 summer getaway in the Bahamas was presented as the ultimate glamorous, high-end festival experience, with the promo video featuring celebrity models like Bella Hadid and Chanel Iman frolicking in the sun.

However, when festival attendees arrived to the private island in the Exumas, the festival was far from ready to host a high-quality experience, with limited infrastructure and only the most basic of essentials.

Instead of being met with 5-star camping experiences, gourmet food, and all-star music acts, the attendees arrived to the island to find dilapidated tents, cheese sandwiches and a mass of cancelled acts – mass panic ensued.

Ja Rule has since spoken on Twitter following the release of the duo of documentaries, to defend himself.

Opening with a slightly tone deaf tweet, he said: 'I guess I’m on Fyre this week…'

'The docs clearly have Billy at fault but let's blame the rapper lmao ok..'

'I too was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead astray!'

When asked why he was not also being investigated by the 'feds,' Ja Rule replied: 'Cause it wasn’t me who scammed ppl Sherlock…'

He said later that he 'NEVER MADE OR GOT PAID ONE DOLLAR FROM FYRE… BUT EVERYONE ELSE DID' and assured Twitter uses that he too is out of pocket following the disaster.

Netflix has finally introduced a category exclusively for female directors, and we could not be happier.

One glance over the brand new grouping has made it abundantly clear that movies and TV shows created by women are complex and truly special.

From the post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box directed by Susanne Bier, rom-com Dumplin’ directed by Anne Fletcher, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before from Susan Johnson, to comedy specials like Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette and Relatable from Ellen Degeneres; it's obvious that compelling works by women are insanely binge-worthy.

Netflix’s recognition of the importance of the work from female filmmakers couldn’t come at a more crucial time.

The Oscars will announce their nominations for 2019 next week, and the abysmal shutout of female directors is likely to continue.

Only FIVE women have ever been nominated in the Best Director category, and Kathryn Bigelow remains the only winner.

Despite the success of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, action remains the genre most closed off to women, with just 13% female directors.

Women made up just 4% of directors and 3% of cinematographers in 2018's top 100 highest-grossing film.

Rachel Morrison was the cinematographer for Black Panther, but it's all the way down at number 34 where you can find A Wrinkle in Time helmed by Ava DuVernay.

Netflix' Bird Box has consistently found itself in the headlines, mainly because of how absolutely ridiculous the whole debacle is.

The movie sparked a change this week in YouTube's guidelines after people began posting videos of themselves carrying out potentially dangerous acts while blindfolded, such as driving.

The streaming giant even had to come out and tell viewers not to try the so-called 'Bird Box Challenge', but now the company is under fire for using REAL footage from a 2013 rail disaster.

In 2013, a 74-car freight train transporting crude oil derailed beside the small Canadian town of Lac-Mégantic, and resulted in the tragic deaths of 47 people.

At first, Netflix refused to edit its post-apocalyptic horror flick after it was criticised for using footage of the disaster. A spokesman told AP it had no plans to remove the footage; “We will keep the clip in the movie.”

Now, it has been reported that the streaming service will be exploring ways to prevent this from happening in the future. BBC reports that Netflix has used footage of the tragedy before, in the Canadian-American science fiction show Travellers.

Julie Morin, mayor of Lac-Mégantic, criticised Netflix for using the upsetting footage, telling The Globe and Mail: “You can be sure we are going to follow up on this, and our citizens are on our side.”

Peacock Alley Entertainment, who produced Travellers, released an apology and said they unintentionally dishonoured the Lac-Mégantic incident and would replace the footage.

Pond 5 also stated their regret that the footage had been ”taken out of context and used in entertainment programming”. They apologise “to anyone who was offended, especially the victims and their families”.

We've been addicted to You since Netflix released it back in December, and pretty much binged the ten episodes in a row without so much as a toilet break. It was unhealthy.

The show follows the narrative of bookstore manager Joe, and his infatuation with poetry writer Beck. Beginning as an online stalker, Joe gradually becomes more sinister as his obsession escalates throughout.

Starring Penn Badgley, otherwise known as Dan Humphries from Gossip Girl, and Pretty Little Liars' Shay Mitchell, the show had us seriously addicted.

News broke that the show is getting a season two, and we want DETAILS, OKAY?

Warning: Spoilers incoming

The show is based on the book by Caroline Kepnes, which means that avid readers can discover the future of You. Anyone who is already a fan of the novel will know that season two will be based in Los Angeles.

Rather than remain in New York City's urban jungle setting, Joe relocates to LA for a change.

Elizabeth Lail confirmed in a recent interview that the next season will see major alterations, including the progression away from Beck's character.

"I think they’re shooting it in LA, and so nothing will be the same. Hardly anything. It’ll be a whole other story,” she told Radio Times.about the sequel, Hidden Bodies.

Writer Sera Gamble also told Metro.co.uk, "We are prepping to shoot season two now, in Los Angeles. Which is also where the second book of the series takes place."

Not all of the book's plot will be explored, however. Gamble also said;

"We’ve got lots of great stuff from the books, and also some new things that have come about as a result of changing the story for TV, like that (spoiler alert) Candace is alive and kicking and not pleased with Joe.”

Showrunner Sarah Gamble also revealed that the audience will learn much more about Joe's past in the next season, including how he became an obsessive stalker and serial killer…

"There's a lot more to explore about Joe from earlier in his life. Those are the things we're starting to get into for season two,” she told The Hollywood Reporter

As anyone who watched season one will know, Beck and Peach probably won’t return (maybe as ghosts?) but we may get to see some flashbacks, judging by Candace's role.

As of right now, there is yet to be a set air date for season two, but we'll be keeping our eyes peeled.

A bit like Joe…but significantly more normal…

Aziz Ansari is bringing his Road to Nowhere tour to Dublin this year, it has been announced.

The Emmy Award winner will perform in Vicar Street on March 31.

The Master of None and Parks & Recreation star is touring for the first time when his career was stalled last January following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Ansari has three stand-up specials on Netflix, and has appeared in films such as I Love You, Man and Get Him To The Greek.

He came under fire after a young woman published her account of spending a night with him on Babe, and it was pretty unpleasant to read.

Ansari responded in a statement last year, saying:

“In September of last year, I met a woman at a party. We exchanged numbers. We texted back and forth and eventually went on a date."

Tickets for the stand-up comedy show are priced at €51 and go on sale on Friday 18 January at 10am on Ticketmaster.

With the current charged political climate of #MeToo, which is bringing issues of consent, sexual violence, abuse and harassment to light on a daily basis, it's the PERFECT time for a show like Sex Education.

Netflix' new series is already critically acclaimed with it's standout teenage characters, incredible acting talents and refreshing humour, but what's just as important is the need to face sexuality and it's trials and tribulations at a young age.

The show is tackling imperative issues and somehow manages to be laugh-out-loud funny at the same time, how does it achieve this unique, charming quality?

Sex Education follows Otis Milburn, a socially awkward but sweet-natured sixteen-year-old (Asa Butterfield) and his sex therapist mother, played by the amazing Gillian Anderson.

Otis' school life is filled with iconic characters like Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa), the most GAS LGBT+ character of all time, and misunderstood punk and resident badass Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey).

Middle finger Maeve= our 2019 mood. You heard it here first:

Anyone who has seen the wholesome content that is To All The Boys I've Loved Before are 110% aware of how ADORABLE Noah Centineo and Lana Condor are.

It's not a question, it's fact. We all DEVOURED the cuteness between Lara Jean and the iconic God of 'Whoa, whoa, whoa' himself; Peter Kavinsky.

Noah Centineo has since gone on to land roles in the Charlie's Angels reboot, and also is filling the part of 'internet boyfriend' beautifully, if we do say so ourselves.

With such a great relationship between the two actors, we HAD to wonder, will they ever date in real life?

Lana Condor has only gone and BROKEN our hearts by claiming that the duo have a pact never to date.

WHAT. THIS ISN'T OKAY.

When the pair first met, the chemistry was so apparent that this rule wasn't so black-and-white back then.

Condor stopped by The Tonight Show last night and told Jimmy Fallon that she definitely "felt something" the first time she and Noah hung out. Obviously, have you seen the man's face?

"We had just got back from a hot yoga class, and we went to his apartment and we ordered pizza — it was right before we shot the movie, and we were just getting to know each other," the actress explained. "And I felt something." GET IT, GURL.

Unfortunately, Lana Condor had to shut the whole thing down for "professional" reasons. BOO.

"We kind of did what we did in To All The Boys, the movie," she laughed, squashing all of our hopes and dreams.

"We made a contract and set boundaries. I'm so happy that we did that, because the movie turned out great, and now we're doing a sequel."

Good Lord, this woman has got seriously levels of restraint.

Lana also has a STUH-NING boyfriend, so we're guessing that put a spanner in the Kavinsky-works too.

Watch the interview below, and try not to cry over their lack of IRL love. We couldn't help ourselves.

Thank the Netflix Gods, AT LAST we have a UK release date for season five of the hit comedy cop show.

Set a countdown gals, because B99 officially hits streaming screens on MARCH EIGHTH. Cool cool cool, no doubt, no doubt.

In a rogue move, Netflix actually allowed a superfan named Darcy to announce the news via Twitter, having asked the streaming service basically every day for months for an update.

Netflix commented; “Darcy has been asking when b99 s5 is coming basically every day for the last few months, so we decided to let her give you the good news…” Utter gents.

Her excited tweet reads;

“Clear your schedule because Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5 is coming to @NetflixUK on March 8th! very noice!” Very noice indeed. Some would say… toit *winks*

We absolutely CANNOT WAIT to see more Jake Peralta and co. on our screens, the hilarious show is airing season six tonight on NBC, so we're guaranteed more episodes.

The show is making a miraculous comeback after original broadcaster and now arch-nemesis Fox cancelled it earlier this year, citing a lack of schedule availability.

This was a pretty accurate depiction of our reaction to the news;

However, the network failed to account for how die-hard (geddit?) the fanbase are, with thousands of fans expressing online outrage and campaigning for its return.

Streaming services Netflix and Hulu were all considering renewing the show, but soon enough NBC took up the mantle and saved all of our lives.

A RuPaul's Drag Race contestant has claimed that she was BANNED from donning a dress which resembled a giant sanitary pad on the hit diva show.

Drag queen Manila Luzon is currently competing on the fourth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, which is synonymous with breaking glass ceilings and overcoming certain stereotypes.

In the latest episode of the show, which aired last Fridaym Luzon and the cast served some killer lewks and the drag artist herself wore a Chanel-inspired gown for the 'Curves and Swerves' challenge.

Controversy arose when Manila went public with Ru's decision to ban her original menstruation-inspired dress, saying it was in "bad taste", despite previous looks on the show being far more controversial.

Manila took to her Instagram to post an image of the dress, captioning the image;

"Ru said my ORIGINAL Curves & Swerves Runway look was in “bad taste” and production told me to wear my back up. I was really looking forward to wearing this gown that I think celebrates a perfectly normal human experience!"

"Many of my fans are young women who may feel pressured by society to be embarrassed by periods. It’s empowering to teach young women about their bodies, encourage them to celebrate them AND to question people who tell them not to!" she added. LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK.

A post shared by Manila Luzon (@manilaluzon) on

"My goal with this look was to normalise menstruation by looking great even if I was on my period!" she continued.

The look was curated by designer Dallas Coulter, and consisted of a sanitary pad corset and fake blood alongside a glamorous red skirt.

"Instead, I decided to wear the beautiful quilted dress you saw in the episode because it is not my show, it’s Ru’s. But because of Ru, I have my very own platform to speak for myself and show you all my interpretation!!

Fans of the show were NOT happy, to say the least.

Another Twitter user wrote; “Period drama! As an endometriosis sufferer thank you for trying to normalise periods."

Manila's post has caused major criticism of Ru Paul's methods, following public outcry last year when Ru expressed his disapproval of transitioning queens taking part in Drag Race.

He was accused of transphobia after saying actively transitioning women probably couldn't participate in the famous show;

RuPaul said, “Probably not. You can identify as a woman and say you're transitioning, but it changes once you start changing your body.”

“It takes on a different thing; it changes the whole concept of what we're doing,” the 57-year-old LGBTQ idol said, later apologising for his comments.

Neither Ru nor the production team have responded to the period dress debacle.

Since the announcement of a sequel, we've been eating up every ounce of news to do with To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Now, Lana Condor has us shookth with the idea that a "major new love interest" is coming to the second instalment to shake up some trouble.

It's bound to make excellent watching but the storyline of Peter and Lara's relationship being compromised might not go down well with fans.

So when the second movie drops – you've been warned to take it easy on Lana.

If you haven't seen the first movie – GO and watch it.

But it's based off an award-winning novel written by Jenny Han and follows actress Lana Condor as a secondary student Lara Jean.

Instead of confronting the lads she likes, Lara writes love letters to the boys she's been eyeing up and hides them away in a teal box in her wardrobe.
