New York

Ho, ho, ho! Dublin just got a WHOLE load more festive with the arrival of the giant I BELIEVE Christmas tree in the capital's city centre.

Donated by Coillte, the fir was cut down in Wicklow earlier today before being transported to the Custom House Quarter.

There it will be given pride of place for the month-long duration of the I BELIEVE festival.

Officially kicking off in just nine days' time, the event will focus around food, gifts and seasonal joy; it will run right up until December 23 too.

And although dwarfed by the famed 38metre Rockefeller tree in New York City, we reckon Ireland's own version will still look pretty special against the city's backdrop.

In true Holidays Are Comin’ style, the organisers have also been busily posting some very exciting snaps to their Twitter account – all, no doubt, to get us in the mood for yuletide treats and fun (let's just say it's worked too).

Set in a "chalet style village" (including an après ski bar), the I BELIEVE market has charity at its roots: the likes of the Temple Street Foundation, Simon Communities Ireland, Childline, Barretstown, and the St Vincent de Paul will all benefit from the event.

Meanwhile, the impressive tree will be lit at the inaugural Annual Tree Lighting ceremony on Thursday November 26 – something which will be free and open to the public.

Santa will be appearing (natch) in the run up to the big day, and visitors can even buy their Christmas trees from a dedicated market at the Point Village.

You can find out more here, while make sure to watch the festive fir being cut down below:

Most people travel to New York to get a glimpse of the naked cowboy, but now it seems Dubliners may not have to go that far at all.

Twitter and Instagram users were delighted this week when they came across the naked cowboy on the streets of Dublin.

Many people were wondering why he was out on the streets of our fair capital, and no doubt that all will be revealed soon.

But in the meantime, here's a snap of the man himself:

Yep, you read that headline right. The best burger in the whole entire world has been voted on and it's a veggie surprise that beat them all.

It might come as a shock to many, but GQ voted and it was a New York veg burger that took home the prize. The winning burger was created by Superiority Burger in New York and sells for only €5.

One customer posted on Instagram: "Can't believe I'm saying this, but I loved this little veggie burger so much that I ate 2."

The burger is described as having a nutty, chunky texture and is served in a bun with all the usual suspects; lettuce, tomato, gherkin and sauce.

Superior indeed. But, there's something to be said about the size – definitely more of a slider to me. #StillHungry #EATINGNYC

A photo posted by Eating My Way Through NYC (@eatingnyc) on

Nick Marino, from GQ, has described what it’s like to eat the burger: “The bun squishes. The lettuce crunches. The pickles snap. That patty, made from ingredients Headley (owner of Superiority Burger) won’t divulge and miles beyond whatever your vegan friends use to assault your grill during barbecues, has genuine heft."

Sounds perfect to us! Would you turn veggie for it?

A painting of a nude female that caused quite the scandal nearly a century ago went up on the auction block for the first time this week.

Amedeo Modigliani's Recling Nude was created from 1917 to 1918 and was the highlight of Christie's New York auction sale.

The auction for the 1918 painting blew previous records away as it sold for $170m (€158m), 100m more than previous record prices.

The seller was listed as Laura Mattioli Rossi, the daughter of the Italian art collector Gianni Mattioli. “This is the painting that defines Modigliani,” said Mariolina Bassetti, Christie’s chairman.

The heated bidding race only took half an hour which is good news for Christie's auctions, as the company has a full week of contemporary-art sales ahead of them.

Recling Nude stands atop Modigliani's relatively small collection of paintings. He only managed to produce 350 before he passed away at the age of 35 due to tuberculosis in 1920.

At this stage we all know someone, or possibly you are that someone, who has had to pack their bags and leave their Irish homes behind.

The amount of young people living abroad these days has led to some Irish mammies feeling a little bit left out. No longer are they needed to cater dinner for three hurling teams and conduct a choir rehearsal in the front room.

While they might be pleased, it would seem some members of the millennial bracket are feeling the pressure. So, one New York woman came up with a solution.

Nina Keneally, a Brooklyn-based mother of two, has created the service NeedAMom. She caters to 20-35 year olds who are in need of some mothering.

Honestly. The business motto: "When you need a mom, just not YOUR mom."

She came up with the idea when she moved from Connecticut back to New York. She discovered that many of her neighbours would would confide in her. A former drug rehab counsellor, she saw a business opportunity.

Nina said she will do just about anything that any mother will do. She also notes that she aims to be the least judgmental mom around.

Services she provides include sewing buttons on shirts for that all important interview, baking your favourite desserts, editing CVs and helping to communicate with the landlord.

She will even take individuals to the doctor.

She draws the line at cleaning bathrooms and doing your washing however- she’s a mom not a maid.

If you have any pals knocking about NYC who are missing their mammy then maybe you should drop Nina a line on their behalf, or else their own mammy might have to do it for them.

Oh! Nina also promises she won't try and act cool in front of your friends.

For €7.8m, there's a LOT of things you could buy.

For instance, there's a castle situated in Galway that you could grab for only €6m, leaving you with a bit of spending money. Or you could opt for a Georgian demesne in Laois, which is going for €5.5m, full of antique furniture and gold plated mirrors.

But far pricier per square foot, even per square inch is a furnished castle, with 29 rooms, fireplaces, armoury and a wine cellar that's worth €7.8m. But of course, there's a small catch: It's only 2metres tall. And all of the glamorous features? They're miniature.

Yep, the Astolat Dollhouse Castle – said to be the world's most valuable dollhouse – is being shown for the first time in New York.

The pricey doll pad was built in the 1980s, and has seven levels filled with 10,000 tiny pieces, which include real oil paintings, mirrors, a functional piano, €4,500 set of knives and forks and even minibooks that date back over a century.

The miniature castle is wired, has plumping (although we don't know who would be able to fit onto a mini toilet), and also has multiple stairways, hallways, a library, a basement and a music room.

The dollhouse was designed and created by miniature artist Elaine Diehl, who spent 13 years building it. She even hired carpenters, glassblowers and gold and silversmiths for across the globe to her her finish it.

Too bad no one can ever live in it.

Aged 29 and working as an in-house lawyer at Lehman Brothers – her dream job – Stacey Becker was “on top of the world”.

Better still, she also had an amazing fiancé, Brad, whom she says “never missed an opportunity to shower me with affection”.

Following a whirlwind romance, Brad had proposed to Stacey on board a Caribbean cruise and before long she was planning their Hawaiian honeymoon and looking at dream homes.

Stacey had already bought her €3,150 dress © New York Post

But six months later Brad dropped a bombshell. “Stace, I love you so much,” he said. “But I’m not ready to marry you.”

At that stage some 300 people had been invited to a lavish wedding reception. Indeed, the bride-to-be herself had also already paid for her €3,150 ivory Reem Acra dress – sourced from Kleinfeld, an upmarket NYC boutique popular with celebrities.

“Despite his revelation, we continued to live together – until he got a job transfer to California,” Ms Becker explained in conversation with New York Post features writer, Doree Lewak.

“The man who claimed he loved me couldn’t move farther away if he tried.”

Then came the out-of-the-blue phone call just three months after he had called off the engagement: it was Brad on the line, telling her he had gotten engaged to another woman.

“It just happened so quickly,” he told Stacey, noting it was someone he had only recently met.

In the aftermath, Stacey recalled “constantly having to explain to people what I did with the ring, and how I recouped my money”.

“Well, after being tempted to cash in on the ring, I returned it to Brad,” she described. “And lost deposits on most vendors.”

“If there was ever a rock bottom, this was it.”

But then, in August 2007, Ms Becker got a call from a friend inviting her to his wedding – a celebration which incidentally was being held on the very same day she had been due to marry Brad.

Stacey with Jonny; they've know each other since they were teens

Her initial response was “no way,” until a mutual friend – Jonny – whom she’d know since the age of 13 invited her along as his date “more out of concern than romantic interest”.

“I moaned, but Jonny was always there to make me laugh,” she said, recalling how he told her: “You can’t miss my wedding version of the Michael Jackson Thriller dance. You’ll be so terrified, it will be impossible to think about anything else.”

Two years later, Jonny got down on one knee and told her that he loved her. “Will you marry me?” he asked.

With Ellie as a newborn and Wally the pup – the whole family

“It was so different this time around,” said Stacey. “I chose a simple A-line gown, and we had a relatively small, 100-person wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico.”

Now, Jonny and Stacey have been married for five years, and they adore their 19-month-old daughter, Ellie.

“Looking back, I see that getting dumped before my wedding strangely gave me new confidence to stand on my own.

“I had bought myself an apartment with my own money, and while there were definitely moments of feeling hopeless, I never lost all hope.”

She concluded: “For anyone who feels despair from heartbreak, know you’re not alone. Love is out there, but you have to be patient and recognise it.

“It might not always come in the package you expect it to come in, but you’ll know it when you have it.”

Stacey, Jonny and Ellie live with their dog, Wally, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She is the author of Knot The One: Why Getting Dumped Before My Wedding Was the Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me. You can also look at her website here.

We all love staying in a hotel on holiday, and many of us will indulge in a little room service; but if you find picking up the phone and speaking to an actual human being a bit much, the Aloft Manhattan Downtown Hotel may have the answer.

The hotel has just launched Text it, Get it (or TiGi for short), a service that allows you to request things simply by sending an emoji.

On arrival, guests are presented with a menu of "packages", which they can request by texting a specific emoji to hotel staff.

If you request The Hangover Package, for instance, you will get two bottles of water, painkillers and two bananas, while The Munchies Package will bring junk food to your door.

The Aloft seems to be the first hotel to make this service available to it's customers, however, it's not an entirely new idea.

In January, Brooklyn bar Sunken Harbour Club, launched an entire emoji menu and BurgerBurger in London also allows you to order gourmet burgers via emoji.

It seems like emoji's just might take over the world yet!

Meet Meredith Parmalee, who is going to run the New York City Marathon.

Not only is she going to do that, she is going to have the added task of knitting while she runs 42.2 kilometres. Knitting with her fingers, that is.We're all for living a healthy lifestyle, but this particular task just seems completely bizarre.

Woman’s Health caught up with the ambitious runner to see what she had to say about her cray-cray fitness pursuits.

As it turns out, Meredith is practically a marathon guru – anyone who has completed more than 10 successive kilometres is a goddess in our eyes. After completing three half-marathons she was interning with an organisation in Spain.

We Are Knitters was trying to find a new promotional angle, and Meredith suggested ‘finger-kintting’ while running a marathon as she had seen some craft aficionados do before.

How does one even begin to attempt such a challenge?

“I watched some YouTube tutorials and taught myself. Then, I started walking around the block while finger knitting and eventually went on a run with my yarn.”

She admits that it took her a while before she got the hang of things, but eventually knitting and running began to feel natural. Sort of:

“It gets really sweaty, so I don't think anyone wants it. After a couple of runs, I have to use new yarn because it gets really gross.”

Delightful, but all for a good cause of course. One the strangest parts of her story has to be the reaction she gets, which is that nobody has ever really bothered to enquire as to what on earth she was up to.

“I got a lot of weird stares at first, but no one ever asked me what I was doing or why I was doing it. That made it more awkward because I wanted to explain myself.”

In case you were wondering, she expects the scarf from NYC marathon day to be 7 metres long. Blanket scarf fans, get excited.

What if you could tone and sculpt your bum while relaxing and scrolling through Instagram?

Don't believe us? It's true!

SB Skin, a skin care haven in New York is using microcurrent electricity technology to lift, contour, and perfect your whole body, especially your booty.

Shooting an electric shock through your bum sounds a bit scary though, right?

The treatment costs $150 (€130) and lasts up to 50 minutes. You lie on a massage table in your bra and underwear, while the aesthetician of the clinic covers your body in big sticky pads. The pads are used to connect you to the microcurrent machine.

The machine is then turned on and switches gradually to different settings (AKA turning up the electric shocks – ouch).

But many say that they only feel a mild vibration while undergoing to procedure.

The levels of electricity stimulates the muscle, causing it to contract — just like you're doing crunches or squats. Focusing the machine's efforts on your bum is about the equivalent of doing 360 squat. Not too shabby!

They're the hottest couple of the moment: a reportedly 'smitten' Scott Disick has been partying with teen model Lindsay Vrckovnik in Manhattan, as well as chilling out with her on the beach in Miami

And despite continually looking oh-so cosy together (including plenty of sun-lounger smooching) it seems that Lindsay is now in trouble… with her boyfriend back home in Canada (we can't say that we blame him either).

The 18-year-old had been staying at the swish Setai Hotel in Florida with Scott, 32, but is now telling friends that 'nothing happened'. Lindsay is also, understandably, trying to make amends with her man.

"The photos that surfaced have caused a problem between the two of them," TMZ reports this morning.

The website goes on to explain: "Whatever Lindsay claims she's having trouble convincing her BF for a few reasons.

"First, she and Scott didn't meet for the first time last week: they hung out at least once before, in July, at a party in Malibu."

Indeed, a snap has now surfaced taken THREE weeks ago of Ms Vrckovnik snuggling up to the reality TV star while wearing fur coats in a hotel bathroom.

TMZ adds: "The second problem Lindsay has explaining the pics where she's all nuzzly with Disick. She says the pics are 'misleading'."

Hmmm, we reckon her boyf will be particularly understanding if he takes her back.

He and Kourtney split three months ago – and it now seems that Scott Disick has well and truly moved on.

In fact, numerous sources say that the reality TV star and Lindsay Vrckovnik – a striking model from Canada – are now very much an item.

Despite an age-gap of some 14 years, the duo have been repeatedly spotted together in New York in recent weeks, with friends saying that Mr Disick in particular is 'bowled over' by the 18-year-old platinum blonde beauty.

And according to TMZ, on Tuesday Scott, 32, and Lindsay kicked-off a bar crawl in Manhattan. They evidently had a blast too: they stayed out until 6am on Wednesday.

Kourtney, meanwhile, was out and about for meetings in Los Angeles yesterday morning.

Looking stunning in high-waisted stripped pants and a black vest, the 36-year-old mother-of-three's demeanour certainly didn't suggest she was in anyway upset by her former partner's new romance.

Ordinarily based in Toronto, 5ft 9in, size-6 Lindsay Vrckovnik moved to New York only recently to study at the renowned Parsons School Of Design.

She just finished secondary school this summer and is believed to have met Scott while on a night out in Manhattan.

TMZ now reports that the love-birds have headed to South Beach in Florida for some sun and sand.

Staying at the swish Setai Hotel, the website states that Scott was 'very flirty' with his new lady friend.

"At least he's spending time with a kid… just not his own," TMZ adds.
