Much and all as we love gin here at SHEmazing! HQ (and we love it a lot), the idea of necking a straight glass is not for us.

And while we tend to mix it simply because we couldn't handle it in its natural form, something tells us that our ancestors weren't worried about their delicate palates when they created the much-loved G&T.

Unlike the rest of us who tend to add a mixer to our spirit, it turns out the people that went before us actually started with the tonic and then decided to add gin to cope with the taste of the former.

Our favourite mixer contains something known as quinine which was used to combat malaria back in the 1800s, but when a British officer in India decided he couldn't handle a straight tonic, he added a splash of gin, and our favourite tipple was born.

Nowadays, however, you'd need to get through at least 20 litres of gin and tonic for any kind of anti-malarial effect to take place.

And that, ladies, concludes today's History lesson…

If you find lugging countless empty wine bottles to the bottle bank beyond irritating, then you may need to get in on a trend currently doing the rounds online.

Instead of dividing your empties by colour in the local carpark, why not hold onto them and create a Christmas tree of epic proportions?!

After Silver Oak Cellars got the ball rolling last year, the rest of us mere mortals are catching up this time around, and Pinterest is all over it.

This is a work of art…

And this is truly beautiful…

And then there's this one…

But this has got to be our favourite…

Looks like we've some stocking up to do before Christmas, ladies.

If you (like countless others) need a little comforting in light of this morning's presidential result, Dublin's favourite doughnut shop have offered their services.

Taking to Instagram to share their latest creation with a very stressed public, the folk behind Aungier Danger didn't hide their disappointment over this morning's news.

"For years people over our side have always said things like 'Americans are stupid' etc. Today, and all on their own, they have just reinforced that for at least another 50 years!" they wrote.

Alongside a doughnut decorated with the American flag and a message that reads 'we're all f*cked', the uber popular doughnut spot added: "Introducing our #peanutbutterandjelly. Available in both store for today only!"

And while the snap has racked up hundreds of likes, not everyone is impressed by the sentiments behind the post.

Calling the store out on their remarks, one Instagram user relied: "I love your doughnuts but your racism toward "dumb" Americans is literally why you would condemn Trump if he said the same against Mexicans."

It looks, however, like others are siding with the store today, with one writing: "Ughhh we are an embarrassment to the world."

The Trump-themed doughnut will be available in the store's Aungier branch and Arnott's outlet should you get the need to feed your feelings.

It was the result Clinton campaigners were dreading, but as of this morning, Donald J Trump is the new President of United States.

And while Twitter has been awash with posts deriding American society for voting in an openly racist, sexist and misogynistic individual with no political or military experience, the man himself hadn't taken to social media… until now.

Nine hours after his last tweet, the Republican paid tribute to the momentous event in American history and vowed to unite the county.

"Such a beautiful and important evening! The forgotten man and woman will never be forgotten again. We will all come together as never before," read the tweet.

And while it has racked up a staggering 50,000 likes in less than half an hour, social media users have wasted no time questioning the validity of Trump's sentiments.

""We"* *except from everyone, wo is not a white American man," responded one Twitter user.

"Obama to Trump is the worst downgrade ever. Give the world back to the dinosaurs #RIPAmerica," added another.

Referencing the countless racist remarks and xenophobic comments Trump made during the course of his presidential campaign, another individual replied: "Hey Sir, I am a Muslim and I would to report a man working in the Oval office responsible for spreading hate speech."

This morning's result brings to an end one of the most controversial US presidential campaign in history.

While our primary and secondary school teachers were (for the most part) held in the same regard as our parents, the same definitely can't be said of our college tutors and lecturers.

After making the leap into third-level education, many of us quickly realised that those who led our classes, tutorials and lectures weren't likely to preach or pontificate, and instead (again, for the most part) treated us as their peers.

Reminding us of this fact, one girl delighted the internet earlier this week when she shared an email sent by her Ohio University tutor three minutes before his tutorial was due to begin.

"I couldn't find a f*cking parking space, so I can't make it to class today. Sorry for any inconveniences." Brandon wrote.

"You all get 10/10 for the quiz today. I won't be holding office hours today either as I need a little distance from campus at the moment," he added.

Showing support for Brandon, thousands of Twitter users weighed in, with one writing: "I could write a dissertation on how sh*tty university parking is. on home football games we all hafta move our cars, it's a joke." (sic)

Brandon, you're among your own people on Twitter.

Since the advent of the internet, it’s become increasingly more difficult to maintain a healthy work / life balance.

Firing off emails and updating Google docs outside of office hours has become common practice among many of us, and gives the illusion that we’re keeping on top of things.

But, in reality, this habit is having a detrimental effect on our mental and emotional wellbeing.

According to a study conducted by Colorado State University, Virginia Tech and Lehigh University and authored by Liuba Belkin, tending to emails outside of office hours results in ‘emotional exhaustion’.

And while the sheer number of emails we deal with outside working hours is worrying in itself, researchers have identified a further repercussion of the habit known as ‘anticipatory stress’ – anxiety created by waiting on an email or composing a response to correspondence you have not yet even received.

“Email is notoriously known to be the impediment of the recovery process,” the study states.

"Its accessibility contributes to experience of work overload since it allows employees to engage in work as if they never left the workspace, and at the same time, inhibits their ability to psychologically detach from work-related issues via continuous connectivity.”

By engaging in the practice on a regular basis, the individual is putting their mental health at risk as well as ultimately reducing their work productivity.

“Satisfaction with the balance between work and family domains is important for individual health and wellbeing, while individual inability to successfully balance roles in those domains can lead to anxiety and depression, lowered satisfaction with both work and family roles, absenteeism, decreased job productivity and organisational commitment and greater turnover.”

It’s time to disconnect, ladies.

If anyone has had a crash course in the downsides of fame, it's X Factor contestant Honey G.

In the spotlight only mere months, the aspiring rapper has had to deal with her fair share of criticism, and it looks like it's only served to make her more determined to smash it in the charts.

Countless viewers have been vocal in their disbelief over Honey G's progress in the ITV show, and now heavy-hitters in the music industry have added to the backlash against her.

When asked her opinion of the contestant, Lily Allen responded: "I find it offensive. So wrong on so many levels, I can’t even start to talk about it.”

Similarly, rapper Professor Green was far from impressed with her performances thus far, saying: "I just don’t think she’s a very credible representation."

Hitting back at the criticism, Honey G reminded her haters that she has an extensive background in music and has the support of two major global stars.

"Lily Allen said she finds it offensive but she needs to get her facts right. Professor Green said I’m taking the mickey out of rap music," Honey G confirmed.

"My mum is a pianist and I’ve followed in her footsteps. Her music is classical and mine is rap. I come from a musical background. People haven’t done their homework on me." she insisted.

Suggesting Professor Green might need a big ol' serving of humble pie, she added: "But then Snoop Dogg has talked about doing a record with me and 50 Cent has backed me."

Hmm, we wonder what they'll make of that…

Look, we all know Kim Kardashian West is the undisputed queen of reality television.

Her siblings may grab the spotlight off her every now and again, but when it comes down to it, Kim (and her doting momager) are at the heart of the reality television family dynasty.

So, it's no real surprise that sources close to the family have revealed that Kim won't be too happy to have her crown stolen by her brother's pregnant partner Blac Chyna.

While neither Kim nor Chyna will have any say in the matter, the latter is hoping to welcome the newest Kardashian addition on a momentous day in American history.

"Chyna hoping her water breaks and that she’s able to pop on election day! Reason being, she wants her baby girl to be born on the same day that Hillary Clinton could quite possibly be the first woman President of the United States," an insider explained.

"Chyna thinks that would be epic and so fitting for her little girl to be born on a potentially historic day," the source added.

Speaking to HollywoodLife, the source reminded the public that while Kim may have taken a step back from the limelight in recent weeks, that doesn't mean she's content to let other members of her extended family step up to the plate.

"That would certainly make Kim a little pissed, you know, because she doesn’t want anyone in the family competing with her legacy. But what’s the Kardashian family without a little competition," they added.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (possibly because it’s all you can afford right now) you’ll know that Ireland is experiencing a serious rental crisis.

From garden sheds going for €890 a pop (excluding bills) to enduring mile-long queues for a simple viewing, finding a place to call your own in Ireland is getting increasingly difficult.

Highlighting the struggles endured by renters across the country right now, Daft have released their latest quarterly report today, and the findings are fairly disheartening.

According to the report, rents are now five per cent higher than they were at their peak in 2008 and have increased by a staggering 45 per cent since late 2011.

Marking the largest quarterly increase on record, Daft have confirmed that rent in both Dublin and the rest of the country has increased by 3.9 per cent between July and September.

And if you're wondering how your fellow countrymen are faring, wonder no more.

While the average nationwide rent stands at €1,077, Limerick is coming up trumps in the reasonable rent stakes at just €504.

In contrast, south county Dublin is the most expensive, with renters shelling out, on average, €1,801 while the city centre stands at €1,575 and North County Dublin comes in at €1,320.

Oh, and one more thing!

Daft have confirmed that the annual rate of rental inflation currently stands at 11.7 per cent – the highest recorded since they begin their report series 14 years ago.

Well, that’s just wonderful…

If you have a nightmare story which sums up the country's current rental crisis and you'd like to share it with our readers, please click here and you could be in with a chance of winning €250!

A vegetarian who decided to tuck into a variety of different meat for the first time in a staggering 22 years has infuriated YouTubers this week.

Stephanie Potakis, who went veggie in just fourth grade, made the decision to hop off the wagon and get reacquainted with numerous meat-based dishes before sharing the footage online.

And not everyone is too happy about it.

Suggesting that Stephanie was attempting to pull the wool over viewers' eyes, one YouTuber commented: "This is disgusting and sad I would literally throw up. This is so fake no person that dedicated for 22 years would just throw it away with no hesitation."

"All the vegetarians I know who tried going back to meat throw the f**k up because their bodies can't digest the meat as well as they used to," added another.

It looks like from where they were sitting, Stephanie just wasn't behaving accordingly for someone who has been meat-free for more than two decades.

"What a load of bullsh*t, she was never vegetarian, look at her. P*ss off, who even gets that excited over a bloody dead cow. What a joke," fumed another viewer.

Sounding like she may be staying off the wagon for good, Stephanie gushed over every piece of meat placed in front of her  saying: "Jealous? Cos you should be cos this is so good."

You'll have to make your own mind up on this one…
