With retailers flogging selection boxes in September and department stores unveiling their festive windows in October, it can be fairly easy to assume a Grinch-like attitude when it comes to Christmas.

The older you get the earlier it seems to start, but if there’s one thing that can capture the magic of a childhood Christmas, it’s the Late Late Toy Show.

An Irish institution, the chatshow’s nod to the magic of Yuletide is the one thing that ALWAYS gets the ball rolling for us.

And according to the good folk behind the RTÉ extravaganza, this year’s is set to be the best yet with the Toy Show team already travelling the highways and byways of Ireland in search of the country’s best young performers.

And if that wasn’t enough to reel you in, there’s also whisperings that the more creative among us have been gong hell for leather creating a spectacular opening number.

“This year’s opening number is the most ambitious we have ever staged,” said Late Late Toy Show producer Katherine Drohan

“More than 60 students from IADT Dun Laoghaire are working on special pieces to feature in the opening of the show. Sworn to secrecy, these students have been working tirelessly on the project for weeks now.”

And if we sound excited, we’ve nothing on a certain Mr Tubridy who is ony dying to get stuck in.

“I am tremendously excited to be taking the show on the road again. We did this for the first time last year and we uncovered some hidden gems that we really wouldn’t have discovered had we not taken the Toy Show to them.”

“Their contribution to last year’s show was immense. There is so much untapped talent in this country and I’m really looking forward to getting out there and finding it,” he added.

Auditions will take place at The Imperial Hotel in Cork on October 24, The Ardilaun Hotel in Galway on October 25 and Ballymascanlon House Hotel in Dundalk on October 26.

Oh my God ladies, it’s actually happening!

Since they drunkenly stumbled onto our screen five years ago, Geordie Shore's Gary Beadle and Charlotte Crosby have had more ups and downs than a rollercoaster.

And just when we all thought they had drawn a line under their relationship, they'd stun everyone by giving the dying romance a boot and reinitiating the whole thing.

But it looks like that old cycle may have had its day if Gary's recent comments are anything to go by.

Speaking to NW, the reality star left fans of the show in no doubt that any feelings he's ever had for Charlotte are officially in the past.

Sounding pretty certain he wants Charlotte out of his life for good this time, Gaz said "'I do not want to be associated with her. I don't want to talk to her."

Implying that his time with the former Geordie Shore star was far from happy, he added: "I will never speak to that girl again! I'm done with that part of my life. I'm actually happy."

And, in fairness to Gary, it's not like Charlotte feels any differently.

Commenting on the lad who she insists she once loved during an interview with new! magazine, Charlotte said: "Anyone would be a better person than Gary Beadle. No one can even come close to how much of an evil, vindictive man he is."

"Even a murderer would be better than Gary Beadle. He is the worst, the lowest of the low."

Good to see those two have parted ways on good terms…

If you’ve ever had your bike stolen, you’ll know ALL about the white-hot rage that accompanies that moment of realisation.

Whether it’s the cost, the fact you’re now stranded, the sheer injustice, or an amalgamation of all three, being the victim of a bicycle theft is enough to make you throw your head back and wail in full view of onlookers.

With that in mind, inventor and entrepreneur, Daniel Idzkowski, has come up with an ingenious way to deter any would-be bike thieves by inventing a bike lock which would render any individual incapable of an illicit bike ride.

Explaining the motivation behind SkunkLock, David said: “After witnessing first hand and becoming victims of bike theft ourselves, we realised that people don’t need a bigger, stronger lock, we needed a lock with a fundamental deterrent.”

“Its pressurised inside with a noxious chemical deterrent that slams the would-be thief with noxious chemicals.“

“The chemicals are so disgusting they induce vomit in the majority of cases, and elicit an instinctive response to run away immediately,” he explained.

In addition to preventing a possible robbery, the SkunkLock will cost the potential thief a pretty penny, with David adding: Our formula irreversibly ruins the clothes worn by the thief or any of the protection they may be wearing, and replacing these items is likely more expensive than the resale value of your stolen bike.”

And if you’re a little sceptical as to the impact the formula has, rest assured it’s as noxious as you can imagine.

“At two feet it was pretty bad. It was absolutely vomit-inducing in 99 per cent of people,” David revealed according to the Telegraph,

“At five feet it’s very noticeable and the initial reaction is to move away from it. At 10 foot it’s definitely detectable and very unpleasant.”

OK, we’re sold.

Let's face it, Justin Bieber is almost as famous for his strops as he is his singles.

And it wouldn't be long before his memorable meltdowns became a moment on Twitter, right?

So, while watching the Love Yourself singer perform in Manchester over the weekend, fans of the singer did what fans do at concerts – they cheered.

And Justin just wasn't having it.

“I appreciate all the support, I appreciate love, I appreciate the kind things. But the screaming in these breaks has got to stop. Please and thank you."

Stunned that they couldn't zip it along enough to let Justin say a few words, the 22-year-old star added: "I don’t think it’s necessary when I’m trying to say something and you guys are screaming."

And when the Beliebers, who paid good money to attend the star's Purpose World Tour, failed to rein it in, Justin dropped the mic (and not in a good way) and had himself a right little storm-off.

After booing the life out of him, a sheepish JB returned to the stage and tried to justify his actions.

"I feel like I want to connect with you," he pleaded. "The point of the no screaming thing is that when I’m looking at you in the eyes you know that we’re actually having a moment and having a connection."

"Obviously Manchester just can’t handle it so let’s do the music." he continued. “I feel that people were just not giving me the same respect back and it hurts a bit."

Aw lads, his diamond shoes were probably a little too tight.

Remember the last time you managed to remove a spider from your home without suffering a nervous breakdown?

Yeah, us neither.

And that is because the arrival of a spider in your home always has – and always will – signal complete and utter hysteria… unless you're Jason Wormal and his neighbour, that is.

The tradesman from Coppabella in Queensland was setting off for work when his neighbour suggested he take a peek at what was going down next door.

"So I am just about to leave for work about 00.30 and me neighbour says ‘You want to see something cool’ and I say ‘Hell yeah'" he wrote in a Facebook post which is currently sending social media into meltdown.

“So we proceed to his place and he shows me this. Huntsman trying to eat a mouse." he wrote alongside footage of a spider hauling a mouse across his neighbour's kitchen.

Unlike the rest of us who would have had to be sedated, Jason whipped out his phone and filmed the Godforsaken exchange.

Uploading the footage to Facebook, Jason joked: "Ok guys so just letting you all know that the spider is fine."

"We have named him Hermie, we have adopted him and he is now running his own extermination business out of our town Coppabella. Oh and he is now paying rent."

The footage has been viewed more than 6,000,000 times so far, and if anyone need us we'll be lying in a darkened room.

While we might like to assume that stars become life-long friends after starring alongside each other in Hollywood blockbusters, it's not that realistic a notion, in fairness.

However, one lad who is doing his best to perpetuate the theory is none other than Mr Tom Cruise.

After appearing together in War of the Worlds over ten years ago, Dakota Fanning revealed that her co-star still makes an effort to keep in touch by marking the actress's birthday every year.

While appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Dakota, now 22, admitted she thought the A-lister would bring the tradition to an end at a certain point, but reveals that it doesn't look like he's planning to.

"He has sent me a birthday gift every year since I was 11 years old,” Dakota told the host. “Beautiful gifts."

“I always think, ‘Oh, when I’m 18, he’ll probably stop. Oh, 21, he’ll stop. But every year. It’s really kind."

And if you're wondering how good ol' Tom fares on the birthday front, it sounds like he knows exactly what he's doing as Dakota reveals: "It’s usually shoes."

A pair of shoes every year courtesy of a Hollywood A-lister? We'll take that.

Testimony from a lawsuit which Taylor Swift initiated against radio DJ, Robert Jackson Mueller, in 2015 has found its way online and offers an unsettling insight into the singer's encounter with the host.

With the courts having released Taylor's deposition, the public have been given a detailed version of the events which led to the host's dismissal.

In a video deposition, Taylor recalled the meet and greet where she claims Robert Mueller touched her inappropriately,

"Right as the moment came for us to pose for the photo, he took his hand and put it up my dress and grabbed onto my ass cheek and no matter how much I scooted over it was still there."

It was completely intentional, I've never been so sure of anything in my life," the Out of the Woods singer claimed.

“I remember being frantic, distressed, feeling violated in a way I had never experienced before," she continued.

"A meet-and-greet is supposed to be a situation where you’re thanking people for coming, you’re supposed to be welcoming people into your home, which is the arena for that day, and for someone to violate that hospitality in that way, I was completely stunned.”

Taylor's allegations against Mueller resulted in his attempting to sue her for defamation – a move which Taylor responded to by counterclaiming.

Legal papers on the matter state: "Resolution of this Counterclaim will demonstrate that Mueller alone was the perpetrator of the humiliating and wrongful conduct targeted against Ms. Swift, and will serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts."

Taylor's representatives have confirmed that any money won in the case will be donated to charities working to protect women from sexual assault.

And we applaud her for it.

2. That time she wasn't afraid to ask the hard questions

3. That time she proved how down with the kids she was

4. That other time she wasn't afraid to ask the hard questions

5. That time she ratted on her own nephew

6. That time she ratted on her own niece

While it was all dealt with on the quiet back when it happened, it looks like the fall-out from Perrie Edwards and Zayn Malik's split was pretty horrendous.

And it's all coming out now.

In addition to learning that her two-year engagement was over by text, Perrie was left without a place to call her own – something she addresses in the Little Mix autobiography.

"After I split with my partner, out of the blue, I had nowhere to go which was incredibly stressful," she wrote.

"For a while I had no idea what to do. The girls offered to put me up but they didn't really have room. I thought about renting but I've got dogs and cats, so that was no good." Perrie explained.

At the time, the band were promoting Black Magic in the States, and Perrie admits the reality of her situation took a while to sink in.

"While I was in America, things really hit me and I panicked. I realised I was homeless. I was crying every day, dreading coming back."

Perrie pays tribute to her mother and Richard Griffiths – the owner of Modest Management – for helping her to settle into Richard's guest cottage until she and her pets could find a place of their own.

"Thank God for him," Perrie wrote. "I put all my stuff in storage, took my dogs and more or less lived out of a suitcase for a good month and a half."

What'll come out next?!

You don't mess with Queen Bey.

Whether you're Becky with the good hair or Kanye with the woeful fashion line, we all know that Beyoncé and her family are off-limits.

Unfortunately for the Life of Pablo singer, he never got the memo, and has in turn made a serious enemy of the Drunk In Love singer.

After calling Jay Z out on his lack of concern following Kim Kardashian's assault in Paris, Beyoncé has reminded Ye it's often worth keeping issues like this to yourself.

Reflecting on Jay Z's reaction to his family's upset during a concert in Seatlle this week, Kanye said: "You wanna know how I’m feelin'? Come by the house."

"Bring the kids by the house. Like we’re brothers. Let’s sit down," Kanye raged. "I can’t take this sh*t bro. Our kids have never even played together."

According to a source close to Beyoncé, the singer is not happy, saying: "Beyonce is frustrated and disappointed in Kanye for calling them out like this."

"They’ve been friends with Kanye for a long, long time, if he has issues with them, he can call them up and they can talk about it in private," the insider continued.

"She thinks he should be home taking care of Kim, not putting his energy into this kind of childish negativity. After all the pain and suffering the Paris robbery caused, Bey really doesn’t think the world needs them feuding."

Taylor Swift can rest easy – we can't see Kanye demanding awards in Beyonce's honour after this…

In a post which has sparked considerable debate online today, a woman from the United States has shared her experience of late-term abortion.

Desperately dismissing theories put forth by presidential candidate Donald Trump, Alyson Draper insists the experience is not something women enter into lightly.

“I had to have a late term abortion. It was the worst moment in my life. What made it even worse was the State of Utah had made it illegal," Alyson wrote in a post which has been shared more than 104,000 times since Wednesday night.

“I had one dead twin. The other had severe Spina Bifida, and would only have lived with life support, in great pain, for a few days.”

“I lay on the hospital floor, bawling hysterically, for twelve hours, waiting for an ethics committee of the health care corporation to decide my case justified what had to be done,” Alyson revealed in the moving post.

Recalling the events leading up to the abortion, she wrote: "My husband and I consulted our LDS Bishop, who assured me I needed to do what I had to do, that it was even within LDS guidelines to do so. He reminded me I had six kids at home who needed their mother to live.”

“The abortion was terrible. It was done very gently, by Caesarean section, leaving the babies in their amniotic sacs. The living baby passed very quickly,” Alyson told her Facebook followers.

Alyson revealed that in the aftermath of the abortion, she developed PTSD and fears her doctor was even affected by the tragedy, writing: “I think it even affected my dear physician, as he had never had to end a pregnancy before.”

Adamant that State intervention is unnecessary, Alyson argues: “No woman should have to have the state have a say in the most painful decision she will ever make.”

“Nobody is tearing babies apart in late term. They are always humanely done, only in situations where there is a non-viable or severely defective fetus and/or the mother's health is at risk.”

The post, which has received 93,000 like so far, has been inundated with comments from social media users keen to support Alyson, but not everyone agrees with her stance on the matter.

“First off this is not an actual abortion,” wrote one Facebook user. “ If they were both delivered cesarean, than that was a delivery. Third trimester abortions are barbaric and disgusting! This is in no way a valid comparison! “

Responding to this, another wrote: “You are truly blessed that you've clearly never been in this position and can sit high enough to pass judgement with no personal experience.”

Alyson finished her post by urging others to consider the implications of their vote, writing: “Please don't vote for a candidate or a party that would make these decisions for the women who will die or be forced to carry unviable fetuses to term.“

“This is a decision that is so painful and so terrible. Only the parents of the baby and a physician should be involved in the decision.”

Alyson’s post comes as debate over the 8th amendment continues to rage in Ireland.

Wedding days are supposed to revolve around the bride and groom, but it looks like one couple were more than happy to share the spotlight on their big day.

Kathryn Dombrowski and Brad Zeimer decided to use their wedding day as an opportunity to promote the importance of adopting puppies instead of opting for the pet shop route.

After contacting Secondhand Hounds and speaking with Puppy Party Coordinater, Alycia, and Executive Director, Rachel, the couple were provided with 13 puppies which they presented to their bridal party shortly before the photographer got to work.

Speaking to Metro, Alycia said: "They were SO excited, Kathryn said they thought they were coming outside for regular photos but when they got outside we were there with 13 pit bull puppies."

"The bridal party was so in love and there was a lot of kissing going on!" she added.

According to all involved, the puppies played an absolute blinder on the couple's big day with Alycia confirming: "No challenges other than hoping everyone, including the bridal party since they were so excited, could hold their potties until after the photos were taken."

Secondhand Hounds have confirmed that the puppies were returned to their mum, Pikachu, following the wedding and are currently living with a foster owner.
