Advocate, model and TV  presenter Katie Piper has released an emotional statement following the news that the man who attacked her ten years ago is to be released on parole, after serving only nine years of a life sentence. 

Katie, who is currently preparing to appear in Strictly Come Dancing, was victim to a horrific crime after her boyfriend ordered a man to throw acid at her as she was leaving her home in London. She was left permanently scared as a result of the life-altering attack. 

Stefan Sylvestre was given a life sentence in 2009 – her then-boyfriend Daniel Lynch was also jailed for the attack as well as assaulting Piper – but is to be released after serving less than ten years of his sentence.

Katie took to Instagram to thank her fans, and well-wishers for their support, during what she says is "a really difficult time" as she adjusts to the devastating news.

"It was important to put my message out to my friends, supporters and followers. This is a really difficult time for me," she wrote. "I am trying to come to terms with this decision, and this is something I need to deal with."

As she is currently rehearsing for her appearance in Strictly, the 34-year-old said it was a welcome distraction, despite the news.

The Parole Board confirmed Sylvestre was being released after an oral hearing, adding that Piper also read statements in person to the panel.

“Decisions are solely focused on whether a prisoner would represent a significant risk to the public after release,” a spokesperson said.

“The panel will have carefully looked at a whole range of evidence, including details of the original evidence and any evidence of behaviour change.”

In her autobiography, Katie previously revealed her fears that her attacker could be released from prison early after he applied for parole – he was denied the first time this happened as he was still deemed a threat to society. 

"The two of them had taken so much from me, and now this man’s punishment might soon be over. I thought, ‘I’m the one with the life sentence, not him. He can change his identity, change his name, get a new job, a partner, move on, but I can’t. I can’t pretend it didn’t happen because it’s all over my face.’"

Despite enduring such a traumatic event, Piper, also a mum-of-two, has become an incredible advocate, lending her support in numerous causes and even setting up the Katie Piper Foundation to aid other burn victims. 

She is nothing short of inspirational. One year on from the attack she also starred in a documentary called ‘Katie: My Beautiful Face’, to document her journey and it received over 3.3 million viewers.

Simon Cowell, the British music mogul, television king, and the former Mr Nasty of talent shows, is officially a 'star' in his own right. 

Simon received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday and was obviously chuffed with the whole thing. 

Simon basked in the spotlight as he reflected on his career, which spans three decades, and his time  as a reality show judge, record producer and creator of long-running franchises "The X Factor," "America's Got Talent" and "Britain's Got Talent".

"If anyone says fame is a bad thing, I don't know what you're talking about. It's the best thing in the world,'' the 58-year-old said. 

Simon shot to mainstream fame in 2001 when he became a judge on one of the pioneering talent shows, Pop Idol, which gave Will Young and Gareth Gates their big breaks and gave birth to the shows we know and love like American Idol, The X Factor and Britain/America's Got Talent. 

He started his speech off with a typical Simon joke, ''why did this take so long? I’m kidding''

He went on to explain how he was a huge fan of America TV and movies growing up

''It is so surreal I cannot tell you. Lauren, you’ve been my rock for the past few years. Put up with everything I put up with, '' he addressed his girlfriend of five years and mother of his four-year-old son, Eric. 

''I was also thinking about today was who would have got a bigger kick out of this? My mom and dad. And they’re not here, but I have a feeling are looking down.''

His many protegees have been coming out with kind words as he accepts this honour.

He was accompanied by Kelly Clarkson, the first winner of American Idol.

She gushed about his talent for spotting authentic people with real talent. 

"He appreciates you being yourself, and that's very rare. In this industry I think people just want you to fit in to something," the Grammy-winning singer said.

He was joined at the unveiling by "America's Got Talent" judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B, British "X Factor" winner Leona Lewis and One Direction's Louis Tomlinson.

There has been a disruption in the Luas Green Line due to an unknown incident in Milltown.

All service has been halted from Ballally to St Stephen's Green.

The company recently tweeted that the "Greenline is operating with a limited service from Broombridge St Stephens Green and from Balally to Bridesglen.

"There is no service from Balally to St Stephens Green in either direction."

Details of the described incident that caused delays have not been released yet at this time.

In response, Dublin Bus Services will be accepting Luas tickets for the duration of the delays.

The Luas operators assure the public that all Red Line services are operating normally, and they apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result.

First off, no this article isn't from 1996 – The Backstreet Boys were set to play a gig last night.

Unforch, severe weather conditions caused a structure to collapse, injuring fourteen concert-goers.

Luckily, the fans were treated by emergency personnel and then taken to local hospitals.

According to Billboard, group member Kevin Richardson revealed in a tweet what had happened as that the band were set to perform at the outdoor pavilion at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville. 

"Hey folks! Severe weather, high winds and rain just passed thru here in Thackerville, OK. Emergency crews are on the scene as tent collapsed and some folks who were seeking shelter were injured. Waiting to determine damage to our stage and production," he wrote.

Fellow band member Nick Carter also tweeted, ''waiting and praying for our fans that were injured. If we can perform we're ready to go. But safety is first."

According to KOCO-TV, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. local time and people were evacuated due to an oncoming storm. 

However, the fan injuries occurred when "something happened inside" the pavilion. 

WinStar said in a statement released to ET that, ''all patrons in the area were asked to move and to seek shelter from the storm. However, about 150 patrons who were standing in line for the Backstreet Boys concert did not heed staff's warning … the storm hit and knocked over the concert entrance trusses with 70-80 mile an hour winds and heavy rain. 14 people were treated at the scene and then transported to local hospitals. Two have already been released."

Dallas reporter Allison Harris of Dallas shared a video tweeted to her from someone at the concert from "right after it fell. Several people hurt including a young girl. Several fans spring to action including former army nurse who’s husband was hurt."

She also tweeted, "friend at the Backstreet Boys concert at Winstar Casino says an awning fell on people. She estimates 10 ambulances responded, paramedics took people out on stretchers."

Kevin later confirmed that the show would not be going ahead but he promised, ''keep your tickets because, Backstreet WILL BE BACK!''

Strictly Come Dancing 2018 is certainly hotting up and we, for one, are more than ready to get this year's series back on our screens. 

The full line-up of this year's cast is almost complete and now BBC Breakfast have confirmed the first celebrity that is definitely taking part this year.

And it is one of our faves…Katie Piper!

According to the Metro, she said, ''it took a while to say yes because it’s something way out of my comfort zone.'' 

‘The only person I told was my husband and he thought I was joking. I’m worried I’ll be the first to go home!’ she confessed. 

So who is the lucky dancer that she has her eye on? Anton?

''I would really like to be partnered with Giovanni, but I have no sway in that at all. So watch out Giovanni, I’m coming for you!’ she laughed. 

When asked why she decided to take part in taking to that daunting dance floor every week, she said it was to do with gaining confidence. 

''I think it gives a wider message, my past is irrelevant, to be able to go forward and do these things is a bigger wider message. That’s something I want to take forward, and it’s nice to be part of something so light-hearted!'' 

The show's rehearsals's have already kicked off and we're following the pro dancers on Instagram to see all of the behind the scenes gossip and action. 

Katie's fans were so supportive wished her good luck on social media, writing, ''amazing news Katie! You’re going to be amazing!!I Can’t wait to see you on that famous dance floor!''

Another said, ''yes!!!! You’re going to be brilliant. Can’t wait to see your costumes/hair/makeup and dancing of course.'' 

Strictly starts filming this month, with the rest of the names to be revealed in the next two weeks before the series’ red carpet launch at the end of August. 

We will be rooting for Katie – we know she is going to be brilliant.

The latest series of Strictly Come Dancing is mere weeks away and we are seriously excited.

The professional dancers have been sharing pictures and videos on social media of the crew getting back to business for another season of dancing and it has now been revealed that Neil Jones, hubby of pro dancer Katya, is officially joining the gang.

Neil joined the show alongside Katya as a choreographer and group dancer two years ago. 

A TV insider said he was a shoe-in as ''he has a wicked personality. Producers are lining him up for a star role,'' according to The Sun.

Neil will step into the dancing shoes of departed Strictly pro Brendan Cole, who was let go from the hit BBC show earlier this year.

His replacement was confirmed by the BBC1 show’s voiceover artist Alan Dedicoat, who said, “Neil Jones is doing it this year.''

“He’s always been on the show but not coupled with someone, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does.”

Russian Latin champion Katya has been a member of the official pro-dancer line-up since she joined in 2016, stealing the show with politician Ed Balls and going on to nab the glitter ball trophy with actor Joe McFadden last year.

A TV source said: “Neil has been a choreographer on the show since Katya joined but has always been keen to be partnered with one of the celebrities.''

It seems that Neil has quite a fan-base, with people taking to social media to demand he gets a partner this year.

One said, ''please @bbcstrictly  give Neil Jones a partner this year! #RedHeadsDoItBetter'', while another wrote, ''the media/public: Who will replace Brendan Cole now that he's no longer on Strictly?! Neil Jones: *looks into the camera like he's on The Office*.''

It seems like you have got your wish, folks.

The number of homeless children at risk has soared according to reports at State chhild-protection watchdog Tulsa. 

This is due to concerns for their welfare and safety.

This comes in the aftermath of a family of five having to sleep in a Garda station for the night when there was no emergency shelter available to them. 

According to The Irish Times, the issue with homeless families having to sleep rough in cars has worsened in recent times.

In correspondence on April 30th from Focus chief executive Pat Dennigan to Minster Zappone, he said that the situation “has deteriorated over the last few weeks”. 

In April, 32 families were left with no choice but to approach Garda stations, as no emergency accommodation beds were available.

“Of these, 12 families (20 children) reported to us the following day they had slept rough, mostly in cars,” Mr Dennigan told Ms Zappone.

Mr Dennigan has explained that he may publish the actual numbers of families that had to report to Garda stations at night each month on their website.

“Our board has repeatedly expressed grave concern for the families in this position and also that our services are being caught in an unacceptable position by the failure of the wider system,” he said.

This is a crisis that looks like it isn't going to be solved any time soon.

Figures emerging from the Department of Housing show a recorded 9,872 people as homeless in June 2018, 3,824 of whom were children.

The name's Elba, Idris Elba (sorry).

Bond fans, listen up – it looks like your new 007 is going to be London actor Idris Elba. 

And we're not sure how we feel about the whole thing tbh. 

The 45-year-old's hat has been in the ring for some time now along with the likes of Irish actor Aidan Turner and Brit Tom Hiddleston.

According to Esquire, the idea of Elba as Bond started waaay back in 2014, when a few emails were leaked in the massive Sony hack.

Then-studio co-chair Amy Pascal had let slip to a a colleague that "Idris should be the next Bond."

Idris spent the last few years denying that he wil be taking on the role and even advocated that the next Bond should be female. 

Well, it looks like that won't be the case as it's now being reported that Bond producers are seriously eager for Idris to snap up the part.

According to the Independent, ''director Antoine Fuqua revealed the details of a conversation with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, in which she said "it is time" for a non-white actor to take on the iconic role. Fuqua discussed who might be next in the running with Broccoli, who's certain the progressive move "will happen eventually", with Idris Elba a reported frontrunner for the role.''

This latest news has obviously got a massive response and a few contrasting opinions to say the least.  

While some people were excited for Idris to step into the role, saying, ''I have seen exactly one bond film since they replaced Roger Moore…..Idris Elba as Bond I gotta see though!'' others had their reservations, especially when it came to the actor's age.

''I wouldn't mind Idris Elba as the new bond I guess, except that he's way too old! Why do they keep casting old Bonds! He's meant to be in his middle 30s!'' one tweeted.  

That's a fair point but remember when people were going mad because Daniel Craig was blonde and they couldn't imagine a fair-haired Bond?

So we say g'luck to Idris if he's successful – he's a fab actor so we're sure he'll smash it anyway.

''Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?"

Get ready to (probably) hear Cole Sprouse playing his dad FP as a teen utter those infamous words in a S3 ep of Riverdale.

The hit CW show, which has recently began production for the hotly anticipated third season, has revealed a titbit of gossip about what we can expect once it returns to our screens.

Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced at a TV Critics Association panel that the fourth episode of Season 3 will be a flashback episode called "The Midnight Club."

According to Vulture, it will be a "twisted" take on classic '80s teen movie The Breakfast Club. 

Riverdale in the '80s? Sounds amazing. 

Roberto elaborated: “we're going to learn about a really, really dark secret in Riverdale that the parents have been keeping since they were in high school.''

It has been confirmed that the main cast will take on the roles of their parents in this flashback and we are SERIOUSLY buzzing for it. 

So we're looking at KJ Apa as Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), Lili Reinhart as Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick), Camila Mendes as Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols), and Cole Sprouse as FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich). 

 Who will play young Mary Andrews (Molly Ringwald), Hiram Lodge (Marc Consuelos), and Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro) is anyone's guess. 

Roberto also said that very attractive array of parents also might get a bit more attention this season. 

“We’d love to do a bizarre episode where we follow most of the parents, and the kids are just on the fringes. In season three, we’re in a place where we can do that. I think it’d be a blast.”

The first teaser for Season 3 was released at ComicCon in July and it left us with many, many questions. 

Will poor, innocent Archie be heading to the slammer? Will Hiram get away with framing him? Will Kevin finally get a decent storyline? Will more Choni scenes be cut out?

Your Riverdale fix is set to hit the CW on October 11th and arriving Netflix the day after, so we don't have to wait too long to find out.

Pink has been touring the world with her two children, which just shows how much of a true lady boss she is.

However, the singer has had to defend herself when she was papped on a beach, (SIGH).

As if she hadn't enough to contend with between being a mum and a rockstar.

The star penned the reality of balancing both in the midst of cancelling an Australian concert after being ill and receiving criticism from an unknown publication. 

The shot shows the 38-year-old on a beach with her daughter, Willow and the headline reads: "Pink's Sydney Concert cancelled as she chills in Byron Bay."

In a lengthy response on Instagram, the mum told fans that the picture didn’t show you the difficulty she had “trying to do what was best for my children, while also putting on the best and most physically demanding and beautiful show of my life.”

The picture she said also didn’t depict the fact that she had been “sick twice.”

The singer still managed to be a super mum and push through the first time the illness struck despite her demanding schedule.

Pink explained just how hard the second time around had been and how that snapshot couldn’t have ever have shown fans the truth behind the mum’s life: 

”This time, what these parasite paparazzi don’t show you, is two doctor visits in Byron on two consecutive days, antibiotics, steroids, Vick’s, nose spray, throat spray, more steroids, NyQuil, a screaming baby in the middle of the night, every night, while mama gives him warm baths and tells her daughter everything is fine," she wrote.

Defending herself, she said that she “never taken advantage of anyone” and she mothers “with everything I have whilst handling all the rest.”

To conclude her post, she addressed the cancellation of the show and how her friends came to her rescue entertaining her daughter whilst she was attempting to get better.

"I’m doing the absolute best I can, and you can believe it or not. What they don’t show you in this picture is me drinking water and lying down while my friends try to entertain my seven-year-old,” she said.

The incredible mum added that she will be going ahead with her show the following day, “whether I’m better or not” and the cancelled show will be rescheduled.

Other stars were quick to comment messages of support for the singer, including fellow parent and performer, Justin Timberlake.

The 37-year-old shared nothing but praise for Pink in the comment section by saying:

"You won't find a harder working, more authentically talented, and more thankful for her place on that stage and her fans than this woman."

"Now…as a parent on tour as well, and an artist who LOVES their fans just as much and wants to give them an unprecedented experience, and is currently battling an injury, a sinus infection and trying to be the Dad I want to be too?? I say HATS OFF to you my friend."

Justin who shared the stage twice with Pink during her tour finished off by wishing her a speedy recovery.

It's time people cut working mums some slack and not be so quick to jump to conclusions.

Irish Water Safety has issued an appeal for the August bank holiday to prevent drowning.

The summer month is the most popular for open water swimming.

However, this year alone 49 people have lost their lives due to drowning.

Irish Water Safety has advised the public to reduce the risk of drowning by swimming at lifeguarded waterways and within your depth.

 

This has been the busiest bathing season in living memory, says the water organisation.

Lifeguards have saved 149 people since June 1.

Another 1,189 people received First Aid and 113 children were reunited with their parents.

Irish Water Safety warns that drowning occurs quickly and silently.

 

Eighty percent of incidents happen in the victim's own county, with alcohol factoring into one-third of the fatal cases.

Their statistics also show that from 109 drownings that happened last year, 84 were male and 25 were female.

According to the water organisation, this is because "males overestimate their skills and competencies and underestimate the risk and danger."

 

The bank holiday is predicted to be dry and sunny.

Here is how you can enjoy the water safely and prevent drowning, according to Irish Water Safety:

Always swim at lifeguarded waterways, which are listed here.  

Swim only within your depth, stay within your depth.

 

Swim with others in areas that are traditionally recognised as safe. Check to see if a Ringbuoy is present.

Never use inflatable toys in open water or swim out after anything drifting.

When angling or boating: Wear a Lifejacket. Find out what device suits your needs here. 

Always supervise children at all times near water, this is crucially important as thirty aged fourteen and under drowned in a decade says the Water body.

 

The advice given if you see someone in trouble is to shout to the casualty and encourage them to shore. This may orientate them just enough.

Reach out with a long object such as a branch or a piece of clothing but do not enter the water yourself.

Additionally, throw a Ringbuoy or any floating object and call 112 for the coast guard.

Rihanna has smashed stereotypes, broken down boundaries and blazed trails since she first exploded onto the scene over a decade ago.

So it's no surprise that she's gracing the September issue of British Vogue, and making history while she does it. 

In the 102 years since the publication began, there has never been a black cover star for the September issue…until RiRi, of course. 

This landmark event is all down to the magazines new editor-in-chief – the insanely talented Mr Edward Enninful.

As he explains in his Editor's letter, ''I always knew it had to be Rihanna.''

The cover and whole photo shoot are bursting with colour and vibrancy thanks to photographer Nick Knight, and we can't not mention the fab 1930's/1990's super-thin brows that Rihanna is rocking.

While we've burnt any photographic evidence that we ever had brows like that, she simply looks unreal. 

In the mag, the 30-year-old gives advice on dating and dishes on being a diva and her link to the Royal family. 

Edward gushed about his cover star, ''[she is] a fearless music-industry icon and businesswoman, when it comes to that potent mix of fashion and celebrity, nobody does it quite like her. No matter how haute the styling goes, or experimental the mood, you never lose her in the imagery. She is always Rihanna. There’s a lesson for us all in that. Whichever way you choose to dress the new season, take a leaf out of her book and be yourself.''

Vogue USA has also embraced diversity with the appointing of Beyonce as a guest editor.

According to RollingOut, Queen Bey ''will make history at the publication by insisting that Tyler Mitchell, 23, photograph her for the cover. It will be the first time that Vogue has hired a black photographer to shoot its cover during its 126-year history.''

Great news for the iconic magazine – let's hope other publications soon follow suit.
