If you're known among your friends for stressing about things that they wouldn't bat an eyelid over, you can tell them that it's not your fault and much of it comes down to how your brain is wired.

In an effort to ascertain how different individuals cope with stressful situations, Rajita Sinha, director of the Yale Stress Center, conducted a study which has since been published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

After recruiting 30 healthy individuals, Rajita and her team set about analysing their individual responses to certain imagery with the help of an fMRI scan session.

Dividing the group in half, the stressed group were shown 60 violent images of people being shot, stabbed and chased while the control group were shown images akin to an IKEA catalogue; chairs, lamps and tables.

Following this procedure, the individuals were then asked to describe their coping mechanisms in times of stress with emphasis on alcohol consumption, eating patterns and verbal disagreements.

The study indicated that during times of stress, the ventral medial prefrontal cortex of the brain –  the region involved in emotional regulation and inner detection of feelings like hunger, craving and want – underwent changes.

According to Time, researchers established that individuals with more neuroflexibility and neuroplasticity in this region were less likely to respond to stress in an emotionally destructive way, but were also more likely to binge drink and emotionally eat in general.

"The greater the magnitude of the change in the neural signal, the more active copers they were," clarified Rjita.

Researchers are currently investigating whether it's possible to increase flexibility in this region, with Rajita explaining: "We have a natural circuitry to try to regain control and to be resilient."

"I think it’s tied to the survival processes that are hardwired, and this is what we’re tapping into," she added.

We’ve all done questionable things around the house in the name of necessity.

From balancing an entire shelf on just one strategically-placed book to standing on one foot and crossing our fingers when trying to work a dodgy tap, we’re no strangers to a little creative thinking around the home.

But with the words of our father – “You only make one mistake with electricity” – echoing in our heads, we always draw the line when it comes to meddling with circuits or tampering with sockets.

However, it seems like one guy, who has recently made his way onto Imgur, never got that memo – despite being an electrician with the navy – and his handy work when it comes to makeshift travel adaptors is stressing EVERYONE out.

My friend, who constantly forgets to bring travel adapters

Happily poking steel nail clippers into various plug sockets when he neglects to bring his travel adaptor abroad, this guy’s approach to health and safety seriously leaves a lot to be desired, and we cannot COPE.

Sharing the snaps online, his mate wrote: ”So, about a year ago my friend went to Australia. He's an electrician for the navy, and decided to use what they learnt him. We called him an idiot, but hey, it worked.”

“Your friend is going places, probably the morgue, but until then he's got power,” replied one Imgur user.

Yep, what he said.

While the rest of the world reeled at the news that Liam Payne was in a fully-fledged relationship with former Girls Aloud member, Cheryl, it sounds like his former girlfriend was far from shocked.

Danielle Peazer, who dated the 1D star for two years, has revealed that the news didn't leave her as flabbergasted as the rest of us.

Speaking to the Mail Online, Danielle, who is five years older than Liam, suggested that her former boyfriend may just have a thing for the mature woman.

"I'm five years older than him so I know that he maybe has a thing for age gaps," she said. "I mean look at her, I'd go out with her!"

Acknowledging that the age gap is a little different in this instance, Danielle continued: "I wasn't shocked when it came out because they're in the same industry."

"Maybe if he started going out with Teresa May, I'd be like 'Woah!' That would be a shock," she added.

"Love is love. Happiness is happiness," she argued. "You just want people to be happy. They both seem happy, obviously I don't know her but I'm happy for them."

While Danielle knows her role in Liam's life will always be of interest when it comes to any new relationships he may embark on, she is keen for fans to remember she has moved on.

"I know people will always be interested but if someone asks you about someone you were with four years ago it's so far gone and you're such a different person," she explained.

Could she have been any sounder?!

Fans of Lady Gaga were left stunned this week when news broke that she and Taylor Kinney had called time on their five-year relationship.

But it looks like there's still hope for the pair, who met on the set of Gaga's You and I video in 2011, if the star's recent Instagram upload is anything to go by!

Sharing a black and white shot of the couple with their arms around each other, the Bad Romance singer said: "Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break."

"We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared," she continued in the post which has been liked 362,000 in a mere six hours.

Reminding her followers that their separation is not simply tabloid fodder or there for the entertainment of the public, she added: "Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."

Lady Gaga's followers wasted no time showing their support for the couple's current predicament, with one writing: "As long as you guys stay strong in your love you will make it no matter how far or near you're from each other."

Overjoyed that the separation may not be a permanent one, another fan wrote: "I knew you didn't break up!"

"After seeing you two so happy and in love with each other I would have never believed that rumor," they added. (sic0

Here's hoping those guys can make it work.

In comparison to the ladies in Taylor Swift's celebrity squad, Abigail Anderson has pretty much flown under the radar…until now, that is.

But it looks like recent developments have lit a serious fire under Taylor's childhood friend, and unlike Tay's celebrity pals who made cryptic comments online in the aftermath of Kim's leaked footage, Abigail leaped right in there and called Kimye out on their actions.

Focussing her attention on Kim and Kanye's eldest child, North, Abigail tweeted a prayer in honour of the child while making her feelings for her parents known.

"Lord, hear my prayers," Abigail began. "I pray God helps your daughter understand, that despite how many times she’ll hear daddy reference all women as 'b**ches,' she isn’t one."

"I pray she understands her father actually IS faithful to her mother, despite all the adulterous comments she will hear her father making," she continued.

"I pray that she will understand 'adultery and b**ches' are just daddy's form of art and not to worry because not every man thinks like him."

Asking Kim and Kanye to reflect on the decision they made to record the phone call before leaking the footage, Abigail added: "May God forgive you and your wife for doing to others the very things you pray are NEVER done to your daughter."

After receiving a barrage of abuse following her posts, Abigail explained that she was forced to delete the tweets, writing: "For the record, I usually delete my tweets once the death threats start rolling in."

Implying she stands by her convictions despite ridding her page of them, Abigail added: "Nothing more or less than that. #MovingOn."

Unfortunately for Abigail and Taylor, not everyone appreciated Abigail's approach to the issue, with one writing: "How can U talk about praying for someone's daughter? Loser! Pray for URself & leave children out of it! Play victim like Taylor now!" (sic)

"Ah..I just read it. Lol.No wonder Abigail and Taylor hung out alone in high school, they were probably self righteous mean girls," added another.

We’ve all fantasised about unearthing a winning lottery ticket under a pile of laundry or stumbling across a discarded scratchcard boasting three matching numbers, but for most of us it will remain a pipe dream.

For one Dublin woman, however, that dream became a reality when she decided to clean out her car over the weekend in a decision which has netted her a staggering €17,023.

After rooting through the standard junk which litters most of our cars, she explained that she came across a Lottery ticket but, as usual, had neglected to check it.

“As a long-time Lotto player, I regularly purchase my Quick Pick tickets but I very rarely ever check them until I hear about a local winner,” she explained.

“I have bundles of out-of-date tickets in my house and in my car and sometimes we laugh that I’ve probably already won the Lotto jackpot 10 times but I never found out about it.”

After putting the ticket aside, the Dubliner decided to check whether the stray ticket was worth anything, and quickly discovered she was suddenly €117,000 richer.

“When I went into the shop to scan my ticket, the shop keeper and I were absolutely dumbstruck, I don’t know which of us got the biggest shock,” she admitted.

Arriving at the National Lottery Winners Room on Dublin’s Abbey Street today, she urged everyone to keep an eye on their tickets.

“Just because a big jackpot isn’t won in your area, it could still be worth a lot of money, I am living proof of that. I have the App now so there’s no excuse.”

You heard the woman – You could be sitting on a gold mine.

After being barred from every branch of LA Fitness and suspended from her role on a radio show, Dani Mathers probably thought things couldn’t get much worse, but it looks like she was sorely mistaken.

The Playboy model and former Playmate of the Year, who recently hit headlines for posting an image of a naked woman on Snapchat, has now learned that police in L.A are investigating the matter.

Dani, who has apologised for her actions and insisted that the image was meant for a friend and not her Snapchat followers, has – understandably – received little sympathy following her major social media faux pas.

Commenting on their decision to revoke Dani’s gym membership, Jill Greuling, the executive vice president of LA Fitness said; “Her behaviour is appalling and puts every member at risk of losing their privacy.”

“Our written rules are very clear: cellphone usage and photography are prohibited in the locker rooms. This is not only our rule, but common decency,” she added.

While the LAPD intends to pursue an investigation into the ‘illegal distribution’ of the image, they are unable to proceed until the woman at the centre of the image presents herself to authorities.

According to The Independent, police in LA are urging the woman to contact police, saying: “Without a victim, we can’t go forward.”

With LAPD eager to pursue their line of enquiry, defence attorney Lou Shapiro has asserted that the Mather's actions have far-reaching implications.

"A judge could take a dim view of the action and really want to see her punished," he told the LA Times this week.

As fans of former couple, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson, come to terms with the news that they have called time on their relationship, Diane has been forced to defend herself against criticism levelled at her on Instagram.

After posting Jimi Hendrix lyrics which appear to refer to her recent break-up, the 40-year-old actress faced into a barrage of negative comments, which she decided warranted a response.

While she did direct her response at one specific Instagram user, we imagine Diane hoped the reply would resonate with all her online critics.

"You have no idea what is really going on, nor do you know me or Josh," she began in a post to one of her followers yesterday.

"I don't know how your mother raised you and you are certainly entitled to your ignorant opinion, but don't forget that even though we actors are in the public eye, we are also humans," she continued.

With rumours circulating last year that the star was seen kissing Norman Reedus in December, some Instagram users fed into the reports, with one writing: "Poor JJ. He deserved better than to be cheated on by his girl and a friend."

It's always darkest before the dawn

"It's because she has and still is seeing Norman Reedus, watch in a few weeks they will become public," wrote one follower.

Echoing these sentiments, another remarked: "Waiting on the Reedus announcement now – open "secret" at this point."

"Obviously, privacy is important, but I think an official announcement was best," opined another.

"Better everyone KNOWS that you're single rather than see you sneaking around all over Europe when you were publicly supposed to be "committed" to someone else."

Unsurprisingly, the actress felt compelled to weigh in on the discussion, writing: "I feel sorry for your small mindedness and I truly hope that you are never treated as you permit yourself to treat others," she asserted in a post which has been liked thousands of times since its upload.

Just hours after it was announced that Pippa Middleton is set to marry her boyfriend of one year, James Matthews, the 32-year-old party-planner has given everyone what they've been waiting for  – a sneak peek of the engagement ring.

With photographers and paparazzi waiting for her to emerge from her home following the news, Pippa, according to Hello!, told the press that 'she couldn't be happier', and unsurprisingly made no attempt to conceal the stunning new band.

Clamouring paps zoomed in on her left hand and captured an image of a piece of jewellery that has everyone at SHEmazing! HQ falling all over themselves this morning.

James, who briefly dated Pippa in 2012 before rekindling the romance in 2015, opted for a design which featured one central diamond encased by a halo of smaller diamonds.

While reports implied that the proposal took place on Saturday, more than a few eyebrows were raised when Kate's younger sister was seen at the Frost Summer Party Fundraiser without it last night.

Placating the fears of anyone who saw their wedding dreams dashed before they'd even been properly realised, a source told the Evening Standard that while the couple are indeed engaged, they are happy to go low-key right now.

"I can confirm that Pippa and James are engaged," the source said. "They are saying nothing more just at the moment. But they are very happy."

With that rock, we're not surprised.

While we don't tend to discuss every aspect of our menstrual cycle with each on a monthly basis, as women we reserve the right to remark on this natural bodily function should we so choose.

However, it looks like the powers that be at Facebook aren't as keen on cramp chat and discomfort discussion as Melody Pool quickly realised this week.

Melody, a leading folk singer from Melbourne, was banned from Facebook for 24 hours after she posted a status referring to period pain and the unholy hell caused by it.

After removing Melody's post on the grounds they considered it 'inappropriate', the singer took to Twitter to vent her frustration at the global corporation.

"Thanks for deleting my post about period pain and not allowing me to post for 24hrs Facebook," she vented at the weekend.

'I am so furious that I got suspended for 24 hours from Facebook for being a woman with a menstrual cycle," she continued.

Insistent that their reasons for removing the post were illogical at best, Melody continued: "I'm dumbfounded that a normal bodily function is "inappropriate"?! Are you kidding me Facebook? I can't even message anyone."

Melody, unsurprisingly, wasn't alone in her anger, and followers of the singer were quick to add their voice to the discussion, with one writing: "Unbelievable! And on the other side not suspending people who are harassing others or writing racist comments!"

Talk about alienating half their users…
