Nicki Minaj

Oh Nicki/Barbie/Chun-Li/Onika or whatever it is that you prefer to be called.

While I respect a woman who infiltrated and somehow dominated the male rap game, I  have some MAJOR issues to discuss. Yes, we all danced to Starships back in the day, but it's time to get real.

Our roast beef with the rap queen includes having a convicted murderer and sex offender as her new beau, collaborating with a gang member who used a naked 13-year-old girl in his music video, and the Asian stereotyping.

While Minaj has been praised and lauded for her ability to remain powerful and confident in an industry which, in general, uses completely misogynic and homophobic lyrics to perpetuate toxic masculinity, there are other cards at play here.

Specifically her consistent collaborations and relationships with violent men.

The internet has descended into chaos on Monday over the Instagram posts which Minaj uploaded of her new boyfriend, Kenneth Petty.

The controversy over her new Instagram-official relationship was predominantly due to his criminal record; TMZ are claiming that Petty is a registered sex offender with at least two convictions under his belt.

Prosecutors claimed that he attempted to force a girl into engaging in intercourse with him using a sharp object in 1995, when he was 15 and the victim was 16.

This led to a first-degree attempted rape conviction and his name stuck on the sex offender list for life, seeing as he is 'moderately' likely to be a repeat-offender. Yeah… that's pretty damn scary.

Minaj's new man served almost four years in a NYC state prison for the attempted rape, and served another seven years for a first-degree manslaughter conviction after he shot a man several times.

Oh they wanna talk? Let’s give’m smthn to talk about.  *Shania voice*

A post shared by Barbie® (@nickiminaj) on

On her account, Nicki was forced to disable the comments section after her fans understandably went into absolute meltdown.

Instead of addressing the whole problematic debacle, she captioned the post; "Oh they wanna talk? Let's give them something to talk about." Um, okay, why don't we talk about safety? Like, not dating a criminal?

Sexual violence and domestic assault is still rife in society, with Times Up and the #MeToo movement only showing the tip of Hollywood's iceberg.

The music industry has it's own qualms to tackle regarding violence against women; R Kelly remains the most notorious example of alleged predators who are still being given a platform.

When Chris Brown viciously attacked Rihanna in 2009, his career continued to thrive, despite the outrage and shock which ensued when graphic images of Rihanna went live all over the world.

The reaction to XXXTenacion's death, instead of focusing on the fact that he admitted to stabbing nine people, and was on trial the week of his murder for assaulting his PREGNANT ex-girlfriend, the response was to mourn him as a hero.

The ex-girlfriend Geneva Ayala's harrowing testimony was obtained by Pitchfork, and detailed a pattern of intense psychological, emotional, sexual and physical abuse and assault by XXXTenacion.

Nicki could have criticised such a problematic man in her own industry, or even have kept quiet, but she expressed her sorrow at his passing instead;

“XXXTentacion may not have been the biggest artist, but his murder hurt us like we knew him, or like we were the biggest fan.”

Of course, none of this is Nicki Minaj's fault. That goes without saying, yet her continued support for infamously harmful men such as Tekashi69, Kenneth Petty and XXXTenacion needs focus.

The Young Money artist was in a relationship previously with hip-hop mogul Nas, who had an extremely toxic relationship with R&B legend Kelis. The Milkshake singer recently claimed that Nas abused her during their marriage, and that Rihanna played a part in their divorce.

While these claims haven't been proven, it does appear to be a pattern that Minaj enters relationships with controversial male figures, who seem to embody toxic masculinity.

Her latest collaboration with Tekashi69 is another bone of contention, her defence of a man who is since imprisoned on racketeering charges, possession of firearms and armed robbery.

Tekashi69 legitimately pleaded guilty to being involved in a 2015 sex act with a 13-year-old girl, which he filmed and posted online, so there's no denying his criminal scumbag status.

Yet Nicki Minaj collaborates with him on their hit single FeFe and on another track for his new album, Dummy Boy. The lack of concern is rather alarming, TBH.

"Danny, I love you and am praying for you, your Mother, daughter & her Mom during this time," Minaj said in an Instagram caption dedicated to the rap artist following his arrest.

Many of her fans are presumably young and highly impressionable, who see the rapper as an influence whose actions are worth paying attention to, hence the concern over willingness to align herself with harmful men.

Issues with race and homophobia have also followed Minaj throughout her career, most recently in regards to her latest album Queen.

The rap goddess was accused of homophobia following the release of song lyrics on her new musical offering, with lines consistently using slurs such as 'sissies' and 'f*ggots'.

LGBTQ+ advocates criticised Minaj's choice of words on Twitter;

“I am a gay man who grew up being taunted by words like ‘fag,’ ‘homo,’ ‘sissy,’ and ‘fairy,’” wrote Mark Zustovich.

“These are more than just words that offend and deeply hurt people who identify or who are struggling to identify as LGBTQ — they are designed to make boys and men feel ‘less than’ or feminine, as if having feminine characteristics is something shameful. On the contrary, we as men should be embracing that more.”

Let's not forget the Chun Li Challenge, which clearly perpetuated Asian stereotypes in pop culture.

The #ChunLiChallenge went viral, and featured rapper Asian Doll (who isn't Asian…) sporting chopsticks in her hair — an act which is considered extremely disrespectful in Japan.

The rapper has referenced geisha and samurai in previous tracks, and Nicki (real name Onika) has also cosplayed as a “Harajuku Barbie” persona.

The use of harmful rhetoric in rap is well-documented, including within the albums of Drake, Chingy and Childish Gambino.

Asian writer David Yi commented that;

"The way people are interpreting the #ChunLiChallenge with signifiers like double buns and chopsticks as hair accessories is yet another instance of people co-opting another culture with impunity."

*Sighs* It doesn't take much to do some research into other cultures for the purpose of understanding and respecting them, especially when you have millions of fans from that part of the world, Nicki.

All in all, I question Nicki Minaj's disturbing willingness to align herself, collaborate and have romantic relationships with violent men, as well as her ignorance of other cultures and sexualities.

She's 35, she's a grown woman and can date whoever she wants, but she must remember the power which she has over her fans.

Her influence is unquestionable- he’s appeared on nearly 100 singles that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, each of her albums have amassed five million sales and she has become a household name, despite working in a world that degrades women constantly.

Not to mention society's obsession with only supporting one female rapper at a time, either Nicki or Cardi B, despite hundreds of male rappers saturating the music industry.

Yet the question has to be asked, is Nicki Minaj contributing to the normalisation of male predators and cultural appropriation?

At the moment, she's the farthest thing from an inspiration to me.

They're all absolutely gorgeous, of course, but which sister is Meek Mill lusting after? The man doesn't hold back in his Instagram comments, we gotta say. The man is THIRSTY.

The rapper shows his love for reality star Kourtney Kardashian's body after the sister embarked on a big night out with fellow The Keeping Up With The Kardashians gals Khloe, Kendall and Kylie.

We're assuming the night was to cheer poor Khloe up after her split from boyfriend Tristan Thompson last week following cheating allegations with Kylie's 21-year-old BFF Jordyn Woods.

Right before the family hit the town in some insanely figure-hugging, stunning outfits, the gang posed for the obligatory sexy photos before posting them on Instagram.

Unsurprisingly, they caught the eye of rapper Meek Mill as he scrolled through his feed. He certainly liked what he saw when it came to 39-year-old Kourtney's body.

In one image, 34-year-old Khloe is wearing a semi-sheer shimmering bodysuit and grabs Kourtney's bum cheek, and the comments were FLYIN'. The TV star was only wearing a black bra and thong under her bodysuit, which was more sheer than Khloe's.

Now, Meek Mill is clearly an eloquent man who breathes poetry rather than absurd statements. Note the sarcasm. The rapper swooped in to comment; "Ass phat in the second pic" on Kourtney's post, and we don't know what to think.

Does the 31-year-old What's Free rapper, who formerly dated Nicki Minaj for years, stand a chance with the Kardashian beauty?

She ended her relationship with 25-year-old model Younes Bendjima six months ago, so she's available but the gal has high standards. Meek is certainly mesmerised, that's for certain. So are we; the gal is absolutely beautiful so the lads must be queueing up.

Nicki Minaj has come out in support of Ariana Grande after her argument with Grammy producer led to her cancelling her performance and appearance at the awards.

Minaj has blasted producer Ken Ehrlich for "bullying her for seven years" just days after the Thank U, Next singer called him out for "lying" about her.

The Queen rapper's comments come after she pulled out of a BET Experience performance when the network made fun of her for losing out to Cardi B at the awards.

She wrote on Twitter; "I pissed off the same man Ariana just called out for lying. Grammy producer Ken. I was bullied into staying quiet for seven years out of fear, but I’ll tell my fans the real on the next episode of #QueenRadio, they deserve the truth."

The Good Form rapper has not won a Grammy in her 16-year music career, which is a big surprise considering how successful she's been as a female rapper in a typically male business.

Sex and relationship blogger, Oloni, questioned her lack of accolades, saying; "Nicki Minaj has been at the top of her game for way too long to not have had a Grammy. I don’t know what white man from the boards she pissed off."

Minaj responded by thanking her fans: "Whether I read it or not, I felt it. From the bottom of my heart. I love you so much. So so so so much. Stay tuned."

Ariana also put Ehrlich on blast last week after there was a disagreement over her song choice. On Thursday the star spoke out about the situation, calling out Ehrlich for "lying" about her to the Associated Press.

He said; “As it turned out when we finally got the point where we thought maybe it would work, she felt it was too late for her to pull something together for sure. And it’s too bad. She’s a great artist. And I’d love to get her in the show this year.”

Ari wasn't too pleased:

She called bullsh*t on his statements, responding on Twitter;

"I offered three different songs. It’s about collaboration. It’s about feeling supported. It’s about art and honesty. Not politics. Mot doing favours or playing games. It’'s just a game."

"I’m sorry but that’s not what music is to me," she concluded, basically saying Thank U, Next. "Passed a Grammy’s bus with my face on it typing those." SASS KWEEN.

She later posted; "Hope that helps everyone understand my decision. ‘I am still grateful for the acknowledgement this year." She went on to win Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener.

Nicki is 100 percent team Ariana, that's for sure.

"I work hard for my motherf*cking album. I remember last year when everyone was saying Cardi got snubbed but now there’s a problem? My album went two-times platinum my n***** in every chart that there was, my album was always Top 10."

"Number one album as well. I worked my ass off, locked myself in the studio for three months then went to sleep in my bed for four days straight – pregnant," she said.

The star then deleted her entire Instagram profile, refusing to take any of the haters online. She made sure to thank her baby daughter Kulture in her Grammy acceptance speech, because her pregnancy gave her the motivation to finish the album.

"When I found out I was pregnant, my album wasn’t complete, I had three songs done. I had to shoot videos while I was still not showing. It was very long nights."

She posted a video thanking her fans and organisations for every single award she'd ever won, explaining that each is unique and special; "‘This sh*t is crazy," she said. "Every award is special to me, from Grammys, AMAs, Billboards, Nickelodeon, awards I get in another motherf*cking country, I don’t give a f*ck."

We hope the online community don't ruin her win for her, it's well-deserved and she's made HISTORY as a woman. Fair play, Cardi, you do you.

Pete Davidson has spoke out about his currently struggles with mental health, following Kanye West's online Twitter feud with Drake.

The feud between the two rappers involved Kim Kardashian of course, and was honestly just drama overkill.

It mainly involved Kanye ranting about Drake's seeming penchant for targeting rappers with mental health issues, and escalated fairly quickly.

After Davidson's ex-fiance Ariana Grande had posted a message to Twitter which offended Kanye's mental health, the SNL comedian uploaded his own worrying message;

 "I really don't want to be on this earth anymore. I'm doing my best to stay here for you but I don't know how much longer I can last," he wrote.

"All I've ever tried to do was help people. Just remember I told you so."

Davidson has been open about his difficultly with borderline personality disorder, and has now spoken out to praise Kanye West's candid honesty on the matter;

“Bravo Kanye West for standing up for yourself and speaking out against mental health,” he wrote on Saturday.

”I can’t explain to you enough how difficult and scary it is to be honest about stuff like this," he continued.

The 25-year-old added, “We need people like Kanye.”

“No one should ever point fingers at you for your bravery in speaking about mental health,” he added. “I’m seriously disgusted.”

While he never mentions Grande by name, we're fairly positive he was addressing her tweet regarding the Drake/Kanye drama.

Kanye responded to Ari's comment by saying;

""I know Ariana said this to be cool and didn't mean no harm but I don't like even slightest level of slight commentary from someone I know loves and respects me." Yikes.

Grande later apologised for possibly triggering West but also made sure to defend herself.

“With all due respect, I don’t need to use anyone to promote anything. Period,” she wrote.

“I was making a comment about what men were doing at the time vs. women. It was a joke which I understand now was probably insensitive."

"I apologise if I was in any way triggering and hope you feel well today. Last thing. Stop weaponising mental health. Everyone.”

Ari dropped her new single Imagine on the same day that Miley released her new Christmas song with Yoko Ono, and was later accused of using the feud as publicity.

While we agree with Ari that she most certainly doesn't need publicity, it appears clear that Davidson's mental health needs some care.

Both West and Davidson are showing candour regarding mental health awareness, something we all need to support.

Since Cardi B gave birth to her first child, Kulture Kiari Cephus, back in July, the rapper has somehow managed to keep the newborn totally out of the spotlight.

Zero pictures, zero videos, zero papparazzi shots. We commend the rap star for managing this feat; it's no easy accomplishment to hide a four-month-old from the limelight when you're a high-profile celebrity.

Last night, Cardi B FINALLY showed us an adorable image of her precious baby girl, and the internet has shut down with the kuteness.

We cannot handle this level of sweetness.

Cardi captioned the image; "My heart", and her 36 million followers lost their damn minds. #Kulture is already trending on Twitter, because the four-month-old was destined for social media adoration.

Offset and Cardi B, despite announcing their separation through their Instagram accounts, have insisted that they would always have love for each other for the sake of Kulture;

"He’s always somebody that I run to to talk to and we got a lot of love for each other but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time and it’s nobody’s fault."

Offset replied to the separation announcement with the comment; "Y'all won".

We, for one, are just so glad to finally have received this gift of Kulture photos. What we do to deserve this?

Entertainment Tonight caught up with Cardi B during her L.A. fashion launch for Fashion Nova, and the hip-hop star she explained how she will eventually get around to posting some photos of her new baby, but at the moment she still has her reservations:

"One day, soon," she said. "I’m scared of sharing her to the world. There are too many mean people out there."

Looks like protective momma bear mode has been officially activated…Now that's relatable content.

"Sometimes I do want to show people how beautiful and how precious she is. She’s so precious. There’s a lot of people that have crazy minds, you know. I want to protect her! She’s my little buggy."

She also spoke about how her newborn has already developed a sassy personality of her own to match her famous mother:

“She’s just getting smarter by the day,” Cardi B told PEOPLE. “She’s recognising everybody. She knows what she likes. She has attitude…I think she’s more me. I think she loves me a little bit more, but I think she’s just loyal to whoever gives her the milk,” she joked.

The rap goddess, who has become one of the most successful female artists of all time since she exploded onto the scene two years ago, is clearly a proud momma already.

“She’s just got personality. That girl’s got personality”.

Cardi B's need protect Kulture from online haters is so strong that she recently turned down a HUGE sum of money for pictures of Kulture.

She told Beats 1 on Apple Music that she was even offered a seven figure sum for pictures in October, but said  "I’m just not ready yet."

Cardi has had her fair share of online feuds with internet trolls and cruel comments, so it's totally understandable that she wants to keep her young one as far away from that as possible.

Cardi B is currently loved up with baby daddy Offset, who has his own music industry career as one-third of hip-hop group Migos.

The I Like It rapper also told Entertainment Tonight that she and her partner would like to have two more kids, saying: “It could always be a hit or miss, but I don’t want nothing right now,” she said.

We were shook when we heard about the Nicki Minaj and Cardi B fight.

The two were filmed breaking out into a brawl by onlookers, who rapidly shared the footage on social media.

The news quickly went viral as the two rappers went after one another on the red carpet during New York Fashion Week.

Afterwards, Cardi B immediately took to Instagram to pen an angry message to Nicki, accusing her of insulting her parenting skills.

“When you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are f*ckin off!! I've worked too hard and come too far to let anybody f*ck with my success!!!!” she wrote.

However, Nicki claimed that Cardi’s allegations were false and that the Super Bass rapper never said anything of the sort.

On her Queen Radio show on Monday, the rapping legend took the opportunity to voice her defence against the up and coming Bodak Yellow star.

She called the red carpet incident “mortifying” and “humiliating”, denying Cardi’s accusations of the fight’s purpose.

“I would never talk about anyone’s child or parenting. I don’t care about anyone’s parenting. I don’t give a sh*t and it’s so crazy to me that people always need to make Onika [Nicki’s real name] the bad guy.

“I just want to let the world know that Onika Tanya Maraj would never, has never and will never speak ill of anyone’s child.”

The rapper soon turned on the offensive, addressing Cardi directly for her allegations.

“You came into my f*cking culture! I never had to f*ck a DJ to play my songs.”

“You’re angry and you’re sad. Get this woman some f*cking help! This woman is having the best days of her career, and you’re out here…throwing shoes? Who the f*ck is gonna give her an intervention?”

Cardi B has yet to respond to Nicki’s comments. The reason behind the rappers fight seems to remain cloudy, but it is clear that the altercation has been the pinnacle of the girls’ ongoing feud.

The long standing feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B came to a head last night, when the pair were caught up in an altercation at a New York Fashion Week party.

A number of videos have surfaced online of Crdi lunging at Nicki, and allegedly throwing a shoe at her.

According to Cardi, the incident was instigated by Nicki after Nicki made a comment about Cardi's two month old daughter Kulture.

'I've let a lot of shit slide! I let you sneak diss me, I let you lie on me, I let you attempt to stop my bags, f*ck up the way I eat!,' Cardi wote in an Instagram post following the incident.

'You've threatened other artists in the industry, told them if they work with me you'll stop f*ckin with them!! I let you talk big shit about me!!'

She continued: 'I addressed you once in person, I addressed you a second time in person, and every time you copped a plea!! But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are f–kin off!! I've worked too hard and come too far to let anybody f–k with my success!!!!'

Cardi left the fight with a pronounced bump on her forehead.

However, Variety confirms that the blow was dealt by the accidental elbow of one of Minaj’s security team.

Over on Twitter, the conversation has already turned to whether or not people are on team Cardi or team Nicki, with some declaring it the 'Battle of Female Rapsupremancy.'

We're thinking that there already isnt enough female representation in the rap game, so there's definitely room for both of them to succeed, without playing off one another.
