nutella

Sometimes the old reliables like honey and jam, or dare we even say it, peanut butter might not do the trick. You might craving something just a little bit sweeter. Or maybe a lot sweeter.

Well a new spread has arrived to cure your culinary nightmares. Actually, that maybe depends on how much of a coconut fan you are, because the humble bounty bar just got a major makeover.

Mars have made a very exotic announcement that could have dairy-free foodies feeling a little left out. The bar of choice for many a chocolate lover is now a spread. Surely this is going to divide many as the spread does not in fact have any chocolate in it. Just the coconut flakes. In a creamy milk based spread peppered with coconut flakes.

Lots of coconut flakes. Interesting choice, no?

We certainly think so, we might even consider it quite the risky move.A game changer no doubt, and it has definitely left us wondering what it will pair best with.

Are we really ready to sacrifice our Nutella pancakes?

Coconut brownies?

Coconut and Oreo cheesecake?

Waffles with coconut spread?

Rice cakes perhaps?

Or maybe just straight off from the jar?

Pizza is delicious. Around here we are massive pizza fans and we reckon that nothing makes our day quite like a pizza delivery. Although, a homemade pizza is going to get us just as excited, we are not huge fans of all the labour it requires.

Some days we just want to sit on the couch and have food brought to us, is that such a terrible thing?

What is a terrible thing we decided was having to make that painful decision about whether we want to go all out and splurge on pizza, or would we be happier eating Nutella from the jar? We are also massive fans of dessert.

Then, luckily for us we realised that we no longer had to make the tough decision because there was a way to have the best of both worlds: Nutella pizzas.

We were very very happy with this discovery. We decided this was a luxury we needed in our homes and not just when eating out. Lucky for you, these are not that difficult to make at home, Buzzfeed even put together a video to help you out.

Ingredients:

Package of ready-made pastries (as many as you need, go for it)

Icing Sugar for dusting/garnish

Nutella jar

2 tbsp. butter

2 tbsp. Granulated Sugar

A round oven pan

Toppings can then be whatever you desire, we do love strawberries and chocolate though.

Nutella – a king of foods; a champion among spreads.

Chocolate and hazelnut and sweet, sweet sugary goodness… coated on toast, a crepe, and fruit; used in cake, biscuits and buns, or devoured with a spoon on its own – all-in-all, it's tough to beat.

And admittedly with such deliciousness on offer, we've never given much consideration to the pronunciation of the brand itself. After all, it seems fairly phonetic: nut followed by ella. Simples.

Not so, however. In fact, unless you're a particular clever-clogs, you've definitely been pronouncing the name incorrectly for your entire Nutella-eating life.

The epiphany comes via a quick glance at the company's website: located under the FAQs section is "what is Nutella hazelnut spread?" – the answer to which is worded as such: "Nutella (pronounced 'new-tell-uh') is a tasty, unique spread made from the combination of roasted hazelnuts, skim milk and a hint of cocoa."

Yup, there it is – new-tell-uh – and NOT nut-ella

We hardly know what to say… except that the original (however incorrect) pronunciation is likely to continue to dominate for some time.

Have you ever been caught with your hand in the Nutella jar?

There is no judgement because we all feel quite passionate about this particular chocolate spread around these parts.

While we love to include the chocolate goodness in almost any snack combination possible, sometimes we can’t help ourselves and just go at it with a spoon, or if it has been a very tough week, our bare hands.

If you, like us, are a Nutella fan, but not so wild about leaving sticky (and incriminating) chocolate fingerprints behind then we have found the invention for you.

An Italian designer Paolo Ulian has designed a biscuit that sits snugly on the tip of your finger. This means that you can then dunk the biscuit into the tub to your heart’s content.

The thimble shaped snacks are designer to help chocolate fiends avoid sticky fingers after succumbing to the temptation that is a jar of Nutella.

The best part is, this invention is not just for use with Nutella. You can pretty much dunk them in any spread you want.

Jam fan? This will work. Peanut butter lover? Then you need this in your life. Almond butter fiend? Well then, your snack game is about to improve 100 per cent.

To all those Nutella lovers out there, we have some bad news. There is currently a Nutella shortage! But don't worry, this is just confined to Australia, for now..

So if you were planning on sending a care package with some Barry's tea over to your pals in Oz, make sure to add in some of that chocolatey goodness.

As you can well imagine, Nutella lovers in Australia have been sent into panic by the news of a nationwide shortage of the good stuff.

Ferrero Australia, the company responsible for the hazelnut spread, confirmed the bad news saying Nutella-based desserts are to blame.

With cheesecake, cupcakes and croissants in many places now using the spread as it's main ingredient, it has put a serious strain on the Australian stash.

The country has completely sold out of the industrial sized 3kg tubs as the chocolate filled desserts gain popularity in cafes and bakeries.

According to Ferrero, the next shipment isn't due to arrive until some time in August so there could be some dark days ahead for Nutella addicts out there!

Ahhhh Pancake Tuesday, it’s the day all Irish people look forward to most. The day when you can have pancakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner and nobody can give out to you because it’s Lent the next day.

While pancakes are fairly standard, whether you like them with lemon and sugar, maple syrup and bacon or even savoury, the pancake doesn’t get much shaking up. But that’s because it doesn’t need it.

So rather than trying to fix something that ain’t broke, we just…upgraded it a bit! Instead of having one pancake after another, you can have several, in a SLICE of Pancake cake. Oh yes.

Here’s the recipe:

For the batter:
Makes 12 pancakes

  • 100g plain flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 300ml milk
  • 1tsp. vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  1. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients into a smooth batter and chill in the fridge for up to an hour.
  2. Cook the pancakes as you normally would and set aside until you are finished all of the batter.
  3. Spread your filling of choice (ours is Nutella and mini marshmallows) on each one and stack them on top of one another so it resembles a cake.
  4. Add some raspberries on top and cut a slice of chocolate-y, marshmallow-y, pancake-y goodness in perfect proportions.

Because you're giving up chocolate tomorrow, remember?!

Today is World Nutella Day – yes, Nutella has its own celebration day. Why wouldn't it? It's delicious, after all!

The famous chocolate-hazelnut spread isn't just great on bread, pancakes and crepes though – it can be used as a delicious addition to a whole variety of treats.

Here are five unusual ways to try Nutella, as if you needed an excuse to eat more of it!

1. Nutella Cheesecake
Forget vanilla or plain old chocolate, a Nutella flavoured cheesecake is the way to go. Using equal parts Nutella and cream cheese for your cheesecake filling will give you a delicious, decadent and creamy cake.

2. Breakfast Banana-Nutella Smoothie
Add some sweetness to your mornings with this tasty smoothie. Simply blend one banana, 80g greek yoghurt, 3 tablespoons of porridge oats, 2 tablespoons Nutella and a handful of ice cubes together until smooth and you're done!

3. Nutella ice pops
Not just for kids! Freeze Nutella and milk in popsicle moulds for at least 3 hours for a moreish summer treat. For something that could loosely be considered breakfast, replace the milk with yoghurt and top the mix with granola before freezing. YUM.

4. Nutella Swirl Banana Bread
If you're looking to use up overripe bananas, whip up some banana bread and swirl a few tablespoons of Nutella into the batter before baking.

5. No-Bake Nutella Energy Bites
Anything that doesn't have the ability to be burned or undercooked is a winner by us! To make these energy balls, simply follow the recipe below, which makes 20.

Ingredients

  • 80g dry porridge oats
  • 40g shredded coconut
  • 250g Nutella
  • 60g almond butter
  • 40g linseeds
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Method

  1. Mix together the oats, coconut, Nutella, almond butter, linseeds, honey, vanilla and coconut oil.
  2. Use your hands to shape the mixture into small balls, each using around 1 tablespoon on the mix. Place the balls on a piece of parchment paper.
  3. Place in the fridge to set.

Pasta and tins of beans are some of the items you should always have in the cupboard and we’re about to add another must-have item to that list – Nutella.

Have some friends calling over and nothing particularly impressive to give them with tea? Have no fear – just make sure you have a jar of this chocolate heaven on hand.

Cheat’s cupcakes
Throw together a batch of fairy cakes (or buy a packet of buns) and spread some Nutella on top for two-second cupcakes.

Chocolate bread
Dip a few slices of bread in a whisked egg and fry on either side until golden brown. Spread with a layer of Nutella and top with some whipped cream if you’re feeling fancy. Toast will also work if you’re out of eggs (or too lazy to wash the frying pan).

Croissants
This one really will make you look amazing. Buy a pack of ready-to-cook croissants from the supermarket, unroll them, pop a spoonful of Nutella into the middle, re-roll, and bake. Serve them warm when your friends walk in the door and soak up the praise.

Hazelnut coffee
Put a spoonful of Nutella at the bottom of your cup and pour in the coffee. Stir, add some cream and enjoy.

S’mores
First of all, spread two Rich Tea biscuits with Nutella. Toast a marshmallow over the ring on your hob and place in between the biscuits for an indoor s’more.
