Nominations for this year's Golden Globes were announced yesterday, and we have (unsurprisingly) spent much of today predicting the winners.

La La Land has topped the nominations for movies with seven nominations including Best Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actress and Actor, Best screen play, and Best original score, so they're sure to bring home a gong.

But will Emma Stone nab Best Actress for her performance in La La Land or will Meryl Steep take it home for Florence Foster Jenkins?

This is Streep’s 30th Golden Globe Nomination, and she is also set to receive a Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award, so she's sure to go home happy either way.

Ryan Reynolds looks set to bag the Best Actor award for his role in Deadpool, but we think our own Colin Farrell will be close on his heels to nab the award for his role in The Lobster.

Barry Jenkins is blazing a trail for Best Director and Best Motion Picture, for Moonlight with a staggering six nominations.

The People Vs OJ Simpson looks set to win the Television Series/ Program Award with a total of five nominations including Best Actress for Sarah Paulson, Best Actor for Courtney B. Vance, and Best Supporting Performance for John Travolta. According to Vanity Fair Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, Martin Scorsese’s Silence, Jackie, Nocturnal Animals, and Moonlight all look set to win.

The Golden Globes usually causes some hype as it hints at next year's Oscar winners.

Speculation is nothing if not a fun pastime, but if previous wins are anything to go by the Golden Globes have foretold the eventual Oscar winner for best picture 11 times over the past 20 years.

This will be the 74th Annual Golden Globes ceremony with Jimmy Fallon is set to host and will air on January 8, 2017 on NBC.

From the trials and tribulations of Ramsay Street to playing the wife of corrupt stockbroker, Jordan Belfort, former Neighbours star Margot Robbie has come a long way in six years. In fact, we reckon 2016 is going to be her biggest year yet.

With three major movies to be released in the next few months alone and the announcement today that she is set to portray disgraced Olympian Tonya Harding in a new biopic, the future is all sunny skies for the Aussie beauty.

Here’s just a few reasons everyone will be talking about Margot Robbie this year…

She’s starring alongside one of comedy’s biggest names
From the 22nd of April you can see Robbie in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot with Tina Fey. The pair play two journalists sent to Afghanistan to report on the war.

She’ll be heading to the jungle, too
Tarzan, meet Jane… or should we say ‘meet Margot.’ Heading into the summer months you’ll catch Margot swinging from vines in The Legend of Tarzan alongside (her one-time rumoured fling) Alexander Skarsgard.

She’s trying her hand at some bad-ass comic book action
Possibly the most re-created Halloween costume from last year, Harley Quinn will come to life in this year’s Suicide Squad. And who plays the black-and-red bad girl? Yup, you’ve guessed it…

She’s just scored a MAJOR film role in I, Tonya
Margot’s latest casting, in the biopic of disgraced Olympian Tonya Harding, marks the first time Robbie will play the lead in a major motion picture. Harding had an incredibly tough rise to fame in the figure-skating world, before later being charged and imprisoned for her ties to the attacks on her rival Nancy Kerrigan. A very meaty role for the young actress and one that is already gathering a lot of interest.

Oh, and she KILLED it on the Oscars red carpet this year
The Aussie topped all of the best dressed lists at this year’s Academy Awards in shimmering gold custom Tom Ford. WIN.

Jennifer Garner's black Versace gown at this year's Academy Awards was totally breathtaking – in more ways than one.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon this week, the newly divorced star admitted that the strapless corseted dress was pretty horrific to wear.

"It's so intense," she said of the process of getting fitted into a custom-made gown.

"This was Versace, and they made it just for me. What they do is they move your organs around," she joked, before explaining what really went down.

"There are basically two men who come in with screwguns, and they screwed me into a metal corset – this isn't true, but it was a metal corset and it did take two Italian people. The next thing you know, my ribs were compressed.

"There's metal inside and these people just kind of move your ribs and they move your liver out of the side and they pop you in. To keep you in place, you step into a bodysuit first, which is like the bottom of a leotard, but it's a thong."

But it was during the Oscars ceremony itself that poor Jen really began to suffer, with pains in her ribs and muscle spasms – and had to rope one of her best friends in to help.

"I said, 'I'm going to have to stand up. I can't breathe. I'm going to have to stand up.'

"And she said, 'If you stand up, they'll think you're Kanye West. They're going to think you're protesting. You can't stand up! You have to sit down.' We're laughing, and that makes it worse."

After eventually making it to the bathroom during an ad break, Jennifer described the stress of actually trying to get out of the gown to do her thing on the loo.

"The connection of the bodysuit, because it had a hook and eye situation, was in an intimate position. I was like, in my vageen, OK?!

"I couldn't reach it, you know what I'm saying? So, I said to my friend, 'I don't know what's going to happen, but I think you've got to get this.' I couldn't reach it.

"She's a good friend. She said, 'If this has to be done, it has to be done, but listen: I want you to give it a good college try.'"

"Eventually it worked out, and I'm going to get those ribs removed anyway."

What an ordeal – she's some trooper!

So plunge necklines were a feature of many of the most stunning gowns seen at this years Oscars, but we're pretty sure wearing a revealing neckline doesn't give anyone permission to scrutinise and rate your boobs.

And yet here we are.

National UK tabloid the Sun published the so-called 'titsee index' which rated the neckline of the top actresses at the awards show out of ten, including our very own Saoirse Ronan.

Isn't it just hysterical? Well, no, its actually not.

The internet is suitably enraged with many critics lamenting the fact that actresses are being rated on their appearance rather than their accomplishments.

Even though the Sun is notorious for it's use of shock tactics and questionable story angles, we reckon this one may have over-stepped the line.

And it seems that Twitter is in total agreement:

The exceptional documentary film, Amy, won Best Documentary Film at the Oscars last weekend but there was one person who was not at all happy about it.

Mitch Winehouse, the father of the late Amy Winehouse who is the subject of the critically acclaimed documentary, has been vocal about his criticisms of the film ever since the movie came out.

And it seems his views have not changed despite the piece scooping up a gong at the prestigious awards ceremony.

In awkward scenes on the Today Show, Mitch spoke via video-link to hosts Maura Derrane and Dáithí Ó Sé but he was not in the best of moods.

First he was not exactly impressed that the presenters had not taken the time to watch the movie before having a go at their interviewing technique.

"Are you gonna let me speak? You keep talking across me?"

We reckon there may have been a few second delay on the video coming through to the studio but it still made for a pretty awkward interview.

After accepting an Academy Award in front of the world's millions on Sunday night, it's understandable that Hungarian filmmarker Nemes Jeles László would want to keep his trophy close to hand.

It is, after all, a pretty distinctive piece of equipment, and certainly not something you'd want to lose on your way home from LA.

But even Oscar winners have to follow the rules when passing through airport security, as László proved with a brilliant snap on Facebook yesterday:

"Airport Security, no exceptions… on my way back to Hungary," the filmmaker – who won the Best Foreign Language Film for Son Of Saul – wrote.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about his win shortly after Sunday's awards, László said he was wary of the fact that all of the recognition could be a "poisoned" gift.

"But if we handle it with skill it won't crush us," he added.

Handle it with skill, for sure – and always remove it from your bag at airport security.

It's rare that a Best Actor and Best Actress from the same Oscars year feature in a film together – so rare, in fact, that it hasn't happened since 1997's As Good As it Gets – but this year that's exactly what went down.

Leonardo DiCaprio may have scooped the Academy Award for his role in The Revenant last Sunday night, but he also makes an appearance in one other very noteworthy film from this year's contenders, Lenny Abrahamson's Room.

Well, kinda.

US studio A24, who distributed the film Stateside, took to Twitter earlier this week to point out that Leo's face does indeed appear just a few feet away from Best Actress winner Brie Larson during one scene:

See what they did there?

Unlike Leo's cameo, both Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson had moving, speaking roles in As Good As It Gets, before being awarded Best Actress and Best Actor respectively for their parts in the film.

If you ask us though, the role of Teen Heartthrob Poster should definitely have earned Leo some kind of award,

We bet this TV presenter picked out this seemingly harmless blue, sleeved dress for just another busy day on the red carpet.

Little did she know, that her seemingly innocuous outfit choice would have quite the impact on social media, but not for the reasons you might expect.

Yep, the good aul internet has been quick to point out that the design on the hip of the gown looks very similar to a vagina.

And we would tend to be in total agreement.

Edwina Bartholomew, an Australian presenter for the show Sunrise, became a trending topic after the show as many users were quick to point out that the detailing on the Rachel Gilbert dress bore an uncanny resemblance to a certain area of the female anatomy.

We still reckon she slayed the dress though.

And it seems her boyfriend was delighted by his girlfriend's trending ladybits as he took to Twitter to share the news.

Leonardo DiCaprio may have won ALL of our hearts in his bid to win an Oscar but we all know that he is a bit of a scamp when it comes to the ladies.

He may finally have claimed his very own coveted gold gong but he still has a total wandering eye when it comes to the ladies.

After reportedly chatting up Ireland's own Laura Whitmore at the Bafta's last month, it has been revealed that Leo had his eye on a certain British reality star for this awards show.

According to the Sun, Made in Chelsea's Lauren Hutton partied it up with the Hollywood star at a huge celebratory bash in an LA mansion after the Oscars.

The 27-year-old reportedly met Leo when they were both on holidays in the Caribbean a few years ago.

"They get on well. She was thrilled to be part of his night, especially considering how hard it was to get in," a source told the paper.

"Guards were checking the passports of every guest and being aggressive with those not on the list. But Lauren swanned through. She's clearly his type.

However, a separate source has told Metro that the pair are just good pals.

"Lauren and Leo have been pals for a while now through mutual friends, and over the awards season they've been hanging out."

Hmm, we can't imagine rogue bachelor Leo being 'just friends' with anyone, especially a stunning, single model.

Never change, Leo.

Selena Gomez wore a stunning Louis Vuitton embellished gown to the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party but things did not quite go to plan.

The Hands to Myself singer looked absolutely stunning in the floor-length silver gown but revealed that she managed to rip the dress just after having her picture taken by the VF offical photographer.

Sharing the picture to Instagram, the 23-year-old blamed having one too many burgers as the reason for the wardrobe malfunction.

"I legit ripped my dress right after this shot," said Selena to her followers.

"I blame In-n-Out."

Yep, the pop princess cited a popular American burger franchise as the reason for the dress fitting a little too snugly on the night and of course, we all know the feeling.

Selena was joined by squad members Lorde and Taylor Swift at the star-studded after-party and we reckon they were on hand to help out their with her faux-pas.

Ah, the perks of a perfectly formed squad.

It’s been almost two decades since they starred together in Titanic.

But Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio’s friendship continues to be one of the sweetest – and longest enduring – Hollywood relationships.

They’ve walked countless red carpets together, starred as lovers in not one but two blockbuster films, and gushed about each other in too many interviews to count.

After seeing Kate’s oh-so emotional reaction when her mate Leo finally won a Best Actor award at last night’s Oscars, we were inspired to take a look back at some of their most tearjerking BFF moments…

While Saoirse Ronan, Lenny Abrahamson and Emma Donoghue all missed out on awards at last night's Oscars, there was one Irish person heading home with the coveted gold statuette.

Dubliner Benjamin Cleary scooped the Best Live Action Short Film award for Stutterer, which he wrote, directed and edited.

The film tells the tale of a lonely typographer whose eloquent inner thoughts are halted by a speech impediment, and it has had huge success on the film festival award circuit too.

"Every day is a proud day to be Irish but today more so than usual. So everyone, for all the support back home, thank you so much," Ben told the audience during his acceptance speech.

And chatting to Anton Savage on Today FM this morning, he said he was planning a big night of celebrating with his producer "and best friend" Selena Armitage.

"We’re gonna head out to a party now and hopefully meet up with my brother who’s here and two of my best mates are here and they’re really the people I want to go see now and just saviour this moment with them," he admitted.

"It’s a special time."

If you're interested in checking out the Oscar-winning short, you can do so for free on the RTÉ Player here (within the Republic of Ireland) until Sunday March 27.
