France has once again been struck by tragedy; as the nation celebrates Bastille Day – a truck has ploughed into a crowd of people, killing at least dozens.

Horrific images showing bodies lying on the side of the road in the city of Nice are now flooding social media.

The incident is being treated as a suspected terrorist incident by French authorities, who have not yet formally identified the perpetrators of the attack.

Numerous people have also been injured – with many more fleeing the scene in panic.

France is still under a State Of Emergency following last year's brutal attacks on Paris, when almost 150 people were murdered by those loyal to Islamic State and Al-Qaeda.

Officials in Paris are investigating a possible terrorist incident in the city this afternoon, after shooting down a knife-wielding man who attempted to enter a police station.

One year to the day after 17 people were killed in the Charlie Hebdo attacks, the individual – believed to have been wearing a fake suicide vest – made an apparent attack on the station at Barbes in northern Paris.

Interior ministry in the French capital say the man was shouting "Allahu Akbar" and was waving a knife, in the attempt of creating "the impression of an attack."

According to one eyewitness speaking to French officials, the man was shot three times by a policeman armed with a revolver.

At first, bomb squad officers used a robot to inspect the man's dead body, to avoid casualties from possible explosive devices.

Just moments before the incident, French president Francois Hollande gave a speech in honour of the one-year Charlie Hebdo anniversary, praising the three policemen killed in ast January's attacks for their "sacrifice" in keeping people safe.

The Eiffel tower is one of the biggest landmarks in the world and people flock to it every year, just to get a picture beside it.

But something that many do not know is that there is a secret apartment hidden inside the tower that nobody ever uses.

When the man himself, Gustave Eiffel built the tower in 1889, he built himself a secret get-away on the third floor.

The small apartment is filled with wooden furniture and colourful wallpaper, as well as a grand piano. The designer even stashed the latest scientific equipment he found when he was out and about in Paris at the time.

But you won't get to see this apartment anytime soon. Back when Parisan high society found out about Gustave's hide-away, they began begging him to rent it out.

He wouldn't let anyone inside it though, and even to this day – 92 years after his death – the tradition continues with the apartment only open once in a blue moon for public viewing.

When Ladurée opened its concession stand in Brown Thomas, it's fair to say we all went wild for the French pastry.

Well, now you're about to get a whole lot more of macaroon-loving in your life as the Parisian store is opening a new tea room on South William Street.

The franchise is to be operated by businessman John Collins who has taken over the lease of the high-profile premises, which was previously a café called Meet and Meat.

A private investor recently bought the building for a massive €2m, which was well above the original €1.4m asking price. What recession, right?!

Ladurée first opened its doors in Paris in 1862 and only in the past few years has opened concessions in Dublin and London.

Chairman of Ladurée, David Holden thinks that the new shop will do well because its clearly loved by the Irish customer.

“Our new retail store and tea room gives us an opportunity to build an even closer relationship with Ladurée customers. Our intention is to bring a lot more of what the Ladurée brand can offer to Ireland.”

The first phase of the business will offer its signature collection of macaroons in their fancy packaging. In January the shop will open its tea rooms where a company chef will offer a menu of sweet treats as well as savoury dishes.

The man believed to have masterminded last Friday's attacks in Paris has been confirmed as dead.

French prosecutors today announced that Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a Belgian citizen, was one of two people shot in a planned raid on a Parisian apartment yesterday, November 18.

The 27-year-old, who is of Moroccan descent, was identified from his fingerprints.

Eight other people were arrested during the raid on the property in Saint Denis.

Heavily armed French police broke their way into the apartment following a tip-off that Abaaoud was hiding there. During the raid, a female – believed to be Abaaoud's cousin – killed herself by detonating her suicide vest.

The death toll of Friday's gun and suicide bomb attacks stands at 129, with hundreds of others injured. Seven different areas were targeted, with the death toll highest at the Bataclan theatre, where 89 people were killed.

investigators are still hunting for another man, Salah Abdeslam, in connection with the terror attacks. He is believed to have travelled to Belgium on Friday night.

According to the BBC, Abaaoud's presence in Paris raises huge questions for the reliability of French security services.

Before the attacks, Abaaoud was high on both French and Belgiuan wanted lists, and yet was able to travel from Syria to central Paris without being detected.

According to police, two people who were suspects in last week’s Paris attacks have been killed in an apartment targeted by a police raid this morning. The raid took place in the northern Paris suburb of Saint-Denis following the attacks on Paris, according to a source close to the operation.

One of those who died was a female suicide bomber who died after detonating an explosive device, according to AFP reports.

Three people are now said to have been arrested in relation to the attacks. An official with the Paris police department also confirmed that two police officers were injured in the standoff.

Earlier this morning, a source said the operation was aimed at the suspected mastermind of the attacks, Belgian Abdelhamid Abaaoud. They also said that police had been wounded in the shootout.

Police said earlier that between two and four people were in the apartment.

Local residents had been evacuated and an area around Place Jean Jaures had been sealed off.

Sky News also reported that “at least seven large explosions” had been heard in the area. Senior correspondent Michelle Clifford, at the scene, said: "We have just heard a massive explosion – and now another – although we're not sure where they are coming from. They may be grenades.”

At the time it was unsure if they had been initiated by police or not.

The area is home to the Stade de France, one of several places hit by gunmen and suicide bombers on Friday in the worst ever attack on French soil, which was claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group.

The coordinated attacks killed 129 people and injured more than 350, some of them critically.

With security at heightened levels across Europe in the aftermath of the Paris killings, the HDI Arena in Hannover is currently being evacuated of spectators.

The German national team – also caught up in the Stade du France explosions on Friday – were due to play The Netherlands in an international friendly game there.

A suspicious object was found before the game, and authorities in Germany, acting on intelligence information, have further reason to believe that the Hannover stadium might be the latest Isis terrorist target.

An official police announcement made in the stadium told football fans to "move away from the stadium. Do not stand still."

Kick-off was due to take place at 8.30pm local time [7.30pm Irish time].

Germany's decision to go ahead with their fixture against Holland was seen as an act of sporting defiance in the face of the atrocities in France.

Meanwhile, also tonight, France visit England at Wembley.

In graphic phone footage taken by a journalist during Friday night's terror attacks in Paris, one woman's fight for life was clearly visible.

Hanging from a second-storey window ledge, the pregnant woman appeared to be struggling, unable to jump down to safety or to climb back inside.

After the footage went viral and was shown on news channels across the globe, millions wondered what had become of her, and indeed, if she had made it to safety.

Thankfully, new reports confirm that the woman in question survived the attacks, after one man came to her rescue and pulled her back in through the window.

The woman, who wishes to remain unidentified as she recuperates, connected through a third party with her 'hero' on Twitter yesterday, and was able to thank him for helping her.

Her saviour, who also prefers not to reveal his identity, described to French newspaper La Provence how he had run onto the stage of the Bataclan to try and protect himself from being shot. He saw the woman hanging from a window in front of him and did his best to help her.

"She was pregnant and was pleading with the people below her to catch her if she jumped," he recalled.

"Below it was chaos. I went through the other window and attached myself to a ventilation shaft.

"I was 15 metres off the ground. I held on for five minutes then the woman, who couldn’t hold on any longer, asked me to help her get back inside.

"So that’s what I did. I don’t know where she went following that."

The man was later taken hostage but made it out safely when French police stormed the building.

At least 89 people lost their lives at the Bataclan when they were shot by gunmen wielding AK-47s and wearing suicide vests, during a concert by American rock band Eagles of Death Metal.

The shootings were part of a co-ordinated attack on Paris, which saw 40 others killed in six other locations across the city.

She added: I felt like I wanted to be around the French people and show suport."

The march was organised late on Friday night on social media by Juliette Charton. The  21-year old is  a French au pair from Paris who is living in Dublin.

The crowd gathered and sang the French national anthem and paused for a minute silence.

Support for the march quickly grew and, with the assistance of the French Ambassador and An Gardai Siochana, thousands of people came to pay their respects and show solidarity with the people of France.

Henry Leperlien, the elected representative to the french in Ireland for France’s Socialist Party lead the front of the march that culminated at Leinster House.

“This is absolutely awful,” he said. “A lot of Irish and French people have come together and everybody feels extremely sad. We must stand together, we cannot yield in front of terrorism.”

According to the The Independent, there were an estimated 6,000 people present at the Dublin march.

In Galway a similar march took place to show solidarity with the people of Paris and to remember those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
