In an effort to highlight the plight of millions of refugee children, Plan International Ireland conducted an experiment on Dublin's Grafton Street during the capital's busiest shopping period.

With the help of 9-nine-year-old Robyn Dempsey, the organisation gave a voice to the countless refugee children who arrive in foreign cities unaccompanied.

While a worrying number of Christmas shoppers ignored Robyn's pleas earlier this week, many stopped to help the child before being told that she was lost after being forced to flee a hostile situation.

Commenting on the footage, CEO of Plan Ireland, Paul O'Brien, said: "Just over the population of the UK have been forced to leave their home. More than 65 million. Over half of them are children. "

"We cannot look away from this crisis. Think for a moment of a girl who is lost, alone and afraid," he continued.

"A girl who has seen more pain and violence than we could even begin to imagine. It does not matter who she is or where she is from."
