Proposing to someone is a massive deal, but you would hope that you would have a good enough grasp of the relationship to know what their response would be.

Unfortunately, one lad clearly wasn't clued in to what his partner wanted, a fact that was made all too cringingly clear when she turned down his very public proposal. 

According to eye witnesses at  Boston's Fenway Park, one gent decided that the best way to propose to his love was with a sky-high declaration in front of the packed park during a game using the Jumbotron Kiss Cam.

Unfortunately, when the message appeared, the couple were having a bit of a tiff, and she rejected his proposal in front of the thousands of attendees.

In possibly the most awkward series of events in history, the couple continued to fight as spectators watched on and essentially live-tweeted the unfolding events.

It also reportedly cost around €400 to get a proposal up on the Jumbotron.

Unfortunately, this lad is all out of love as well as being out of pocket.

However, one loved-up lad jumped at the opportunity to get a very famous face involved in proposing to his unsuspecting girlfriend.

Nick Janevski was dying to pop to question to his long-term love Austin Miller, who is a massive Celine Dion fan.

Taking the opportunity when they managed to wangle a meet-and-greet, Nick got down on one knee as Celine looked on, much to the surprise of both ladies.

“I didn’t even say yes… for like two whole minutes I was just shocked. I just looked at Celine Dion and then we both looked at him … I just kissed him" his shocked fiance told Buzzfeed News.

"@celinedion is about the only person I wouldn't mind photobombing the pictures of our proposal," she captioned a shot of the moment on Instagram. 

Celine clearly could not contain her reaction, looking shocked and delighted in the background as the couple embraced. 

“I hope you have a long and happy marriage, just like I did with my husband,” Dion told the duo, in a touching blessing. 

This is definitely a contender for best proposal of the year.

Say whaaaat? Zayn Malik has proposed to Gigi Hadid?

According to reports, Zayn has bent down on one knee to ask Gigi to marry him… but she turned him down.

An insider told Life & Style magazine that the proposal was "too fast" and the model "doesn't feel ready yet."

"Zayn recently asked Gigi to marry him. She's only 21 and doesn't feel ready to tie the knot, so she turned him down.

"If they do get engaged, it's not going to be something Gigi will want to hide.

"She's very proud to be dating Zayn. If [she decides] to marry him, there is no way she'll keep it a secret."

A newly-engaged woman has been left devastated – losing her engagement ring just hours after her boyfriend gave her a dream proposal in Dublin.

The bride-to-be travelled from Northern Ireland to the city for a weekend mini-break on Friday.

“He totally surprised me,” the woman told SHEmazing! this afternoon. “We were staying at the Shelbourne – then on Saturday morning he asked me to marry him.

“He whisked me straight off to Grafton Street and there we visited a few different jewellers – being offered glasses of champagne on arrival.

“It was just an amazing experience – a whirlwind.”

Sadly, however, her delight could only last a few hours.

“We had dinner in The Shelbourne and then decided to get a drink on Baggot Street.

“We were in O’Donoghues – and I know I had my ring leaving – and then decided to go on to the No.5 Vinoteca bar.

“Either I lost it there, or I lost it en route back to the Shelbourne.”

Only bought that morning, the ring had yet to be resized and was loose. Understandably, she is now devastated that she never even got the opportunity to bring her ring home to show it to friends and family.

Describing why she chose that particular piece, she said: “I just like that it was a bit unusual looking – there was a real vintage feel to it and the particular cut jumped out at me as soon as I saw it.”

She’s already informed gardaí of the loss and is now desperately appealing for anyone who might have found the ring to come forward.

“Vinoteca have been really good – they looked high and low for me but nothing. I’m hanging on to blind hope now and just trying to get the word out.”

Former Xposé presenter Peter O’Riordan has announced his engagement to Stephanie Corbitt.

The Cork native took to Twitter this afternoon to share the good news with fans.

Alongside a picture of Stephanie’s new rock, Peter wrote: “When life gives you coal, you make diamonds.  Delighted to finally make a (more) honest woman outta @tephyluv PROPERLY this time.  USA bound.”

Peter’s model fiancée used Instagram to mark the occasion with a picture of the couple’s son kissing her freshly ringed hand among the autumn leaves at St Stephen’s Green.

The Hawaii native wrote: “In between the Fall leaves where our journey in Dublin all began he promised me forever…and to make this moment even sweeter livi kissed my hand when I showed him his daddy FINALLY made an honest woman out of me.”

Last week, the TV host – who moved back Ireland to be part of the TV3 entertainment show in 2014 – announced plans to return to Hollywood with his family after being dramatically dropped from Xposé with Lisa Cannon and Aisling O’Loughlin.

After 13 years together, James Barry decided to pop the question to childhood sweetheart, Orla Gallagher, and Instagram can barely contain themselves over it.

Enlisting the help of sand artist Sean Corcoran, the City of Waterford Brass Band and photographer Alan Magner, James set the scene for one of the biggest moments in his relationship.

And he nailed it.

On a wet and windy Sunday morning, James took Orla to Stradbally Cove where he revealed an enormous heart drawn in the sand which contained the words 'Orla. will you marry me?'

As Orla was led across the beach, the band began playing Gilbert O'Sullivan's Matrimony as the photographer captured the moment on camera.

"So on a rainy day, in Stradbally, James proposed to Orla and she said "YES" wrote Alan on Instagram.  "It's been weeks in the making."

 "One path created, one sand artist@the_art_hand, one marching band, one rainy day and one couple in love, it's been fun and I'm delighted to have been a part of it."

Commenting on the selection of photos, Alan wrote: "It was so much fun, got absolutely soaked but it was totally worth it!"

Instagram users couldn't get enough of the footage, with one writing: "Every other guy in Waterford will now have to step his game up massively!"

"Awww lucky lady, that's so adorable!" added another.

Ladies, we're officially melting.

It might have taken him five months and the help of numerous farmers to prepare the setting for his big moment, but it sounds like it was definitely worth it for Shyam Thakrar.

The 27-year-old, known as Sam, planned to pop the question to his girlfriend Sarah, but his proposal required more than just a ring and the bending of a knee.

After deciding at the age of 15 that he would ask his future wife to marry him by mowing the words into a farmer's field, Sam knew that he would need a little help if his plan was to go off without a hitch.

"I got in touch with farmers and found one that said he'd done something similar before, but not on this scale," Sam told ITV News.

Coordinating the task with the help of walkie-talkies, a group of farmers from Northumberland obliged Sam and mowed his special message into a field 300 miles from the couple's home.

And once they were done, Sam treated Sarah to a helicopter ride above the fields before she agreed to become Mrs Thakrar.

Sam's efforts have been praised by the public with one Facebook user writing: "Top man, impressed" while another remarked: "Good idea that! Respect young man!"

Just something for our other halves to consider…

They're pretty much one of our fave couples: Andrea Roche model Holly Keating and Michael McCarthy, a former Dublin footballer who lifted the Sam Maguire back in 2011.

And now – we are happy to report – the loved-up duo are ENGAGED!

Yup, Michael popped the question over the weekend at Co. Wickow's Kilruddery House, with 27-year-old Bray-native Holly immediately saying 'yes!'

We can't say we blame her either: the ring is definitely mega-bling: a gorgeous solitaire stone cut in a circular fashion and flanked by smaller rocks. *Swoon*

Ms Keating also shared a snap of the happy couple on social media – with friends and family quickly rushing to offer their congratulations. 

The pair met on a night out but their relationship really blossomed on Facebook. Although Holly has admitted that at first she wasn't exactly au fait with his chosen sport.

"I didn't even know what shape the ball for Gaelic football was!" she previously told independent.ie.

She added: "I love GAA now. Michael trains four times a week and has a match at the weekend. I'm just in awe of his commitment to it."

Arriving home to a house filled with more candles than you could shake a stick at, we're not surprised this Cork woman believed her partner, Keith Stanton, when he said there'd been a power cut and he needed her help.

After enlisting the help of the Pat Fitz Band, Keith tricked his girlfriend into coming home early so he could get down on one knee and pop the question.

With the band playing I'm Yours by Jason Mraz in the couple's kitchen, Keith told Liz she was 'a fantastic mother and a fantastic partner' before asking if she'd become his wife.

Sharing the footage on their official Facebook page yesterday, Pat Fitz wrote "Keith Stanton proposed to his beautiful partner Liz this summer and asked us to be part of it. We were delighted and honoured to be part of it. Heres how it went…"

The band have been inundated with comments from social media users wishing the Cork couple well, with one writing: "Ah Liz that's fab. Fair play stangy I'm bawling after looking at that."

"Cheers here now a bawling hormonal wreck," added another. "Must not have been a candle left in Cork city"

Well, if everyone else is bawling, we may as well join in…

It's been four years since Russell Brand famously ended his year-long marriage to Katy Perry by text, but it seems the comedian is finally ready to give marriage another go as he has reportedly proposed to his girlfriend Laura Gallacher.

According to The Sun, Russell and his pregnant partner Laura revealed the news of their engagement at an intimate “hippy-style” get-together at their Oxfordshire home over the weekend.

A source said the couple – who reunited last year in Rome, having previously dated in 2007 and 2009 – were eager to keep their celebrations quiet: “Russell didn’t want a big fuss this time after his very public relationship with Katy."

“Laura is also keen to keep their romance low-key, so the small, intimate party was very much in keeping with their ‘homebods’ image."

“As they are becoming parents, Russell wanted to do the right thing and make Laura his wife."

“She’s delighted he asked.”

Laura's sister TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher seemed to confirm the news yesterday when she posted a congratulatory pic of herself and Laura to her Instagram account.

The news comes just weeks after it was reported that Laura is five months pregnant with the couple’s first child.

When Ray Smith decided it was time to propose to his girlfriend Claire Bramley, he wanted a few practice runs before getting down on one knee.

So rather than turn to family or friends for advice, he decided to propose 148 different times – in secret.

Yep, over the course of five months, Ray snuck a card bearing the words 'Will You Marry Me?' into 148 different photos of himself and Claire, who was pregnant with their baby at the time.

"I have been planning to propose for a while and I knew I wanted to do something romantic," he explains.

"I told her I was taking the pictures to track the progress of the baby. Sometimes she wanted to see the pictures so I had to take more than one – one with the card and one without."

Ray admits the process didn't always go to plan, however.

"It was really stressful putting it all together, it took a lot of hard work. She nearly caught me a couple of times but I just had to pray it worked."

Luckily for Ray, Claire says she was "oblivious" to his master plan, and when the time finally did come to pop the question for real, she was blown away.
